AN: So, here... A double update for Christmas. Sorry for making you wait so long. Hope these two chapters made up for it.
Merry Christmas!
Sitting on stage in front of a hundred people, maybe more, was always nerve wracking.
At school - or for school - was a different type of nerve builder.
Sitting in front of all these people to eat and win, that was nerves of some other sort.
"Contestants, there will be twelve courses, there'll be water- or soda, your choice, provided. The first one to finish wins, or the last one to tap out, wins. In just a second, someone will come take your drink orders, then the contest will begin."
Three people had already dropped out after the third course, now, we were onto burgers.
And with seven people left, eight courses to go, Jade couldn't contain her smile as people started to look like they were ready to die.
"Fifteen burgers with meat patties, cheese, pickles and a mix of Mayo, mustard, and ketchup next to three pounds of fries. Contestant number seven, you haven't even finished the hot dogs from last round, how're you feeling?"
The sound of a chair scraping and someone running off made me look to Jade who mimed someone puking to Riley, causing him to laugh.
Three contestants left, two courses to go, and - never mind, the kid between me and the guy I always beat just left.
I motioned for another drink as I down the last two mouthfuls and picked up the final corn-dog on my plate, pulling it off its stick before downing that in two bites.
I looked down the table and saw he still had a few corn dogs left.
I sipped on the new coke I'd been given, waiting for the next tray.
"Next course, we're gonna get dessert out after how much you've eaten, let's start off light. Four kilos of ice cream. It's been sitting a while, so it's a little melted, sorry bout that."
I pulled the lid off the tub and picked it up, drinking down the melted ice cream before grabbing the provided spoon and hoe'd into the rest of it that hadn't melted in the heat of the day.
"There hasn't been any pie today, how about Apple, or meat?" The presenter asked sitting between me and the other kid.
"Hate Apple, meat?"
"Alright, meat it is," he nodded waving a hand and a family sized meat pie was sat beside me, and then two others beside it.
I pushed the empty ice cream tub to the other side- in front of the announcer and used my spoon to eat the insides of the pie before I picked up the outter shell, folded it in half and took a large drink before I ate the pie as quick as I could, following quickly with the other two pies being eaten the same way.
"Ladies and gentleman, we have a new winner this year," the presenter said, holding my arm up above my head while my free hand pulled my drink close and I chugged down the rest of my Coke before standing, glancing over to see he hadn't even gotten halfway through the pie.
People cheered and clapped and I jumped off the stage, making my way to Jade and Riley.
"And you didn't even make a mess of your face or clothes," Jade said, sounding impressed.
"When have I ever?"
"Taco's last week," she shrugged.
"You bumped me, that was your fault," I pouted.
"Whatever you say, Vega," Jade said, playfully scoffing.
I rolled my eyes and pushed her to turn away from me before I jumped onto her back.
Jade cupped under my thighs and adjusted me a little before she started walking.
"Hey, Wait!" Someone called and Jade stopped as the announcer from the contest ran up to us. "You forgot the prize money," he said, holding an envelope out.
"Prize money? Since when?" I asked, raising my eyebrows.
"This faire always gives out money to the winner. Enjoy your day, ladies," the man said and I slipped off Jade's back, looking at the envelope before opening it.
"Hey, there's a few free drinks in here also," I said, and my eyes widened when I counted the hundred dollar bills. "Well, that's more than I'd ever thought I'd see."
"How much?"
"Seven… eight… nine… a thousand," I finished off, swallowing nervously. "Can you hold onto it? I'll probably drop one of them onto MJ for some J's. So there's that set for the weekend."
"What do you want to do now?" Jade asked, resting her arm around Riley's shoulder.
"Does he like horses?" I asked.
"Terrified of them."
"Why don't we take him to an arcade and let him go wild?"
"Seriously?" Jade asked, and I nodded, gesturing to her bag where she put the money.
"We have the funds for it, how often does he get to just go insane?"
"Really?"
"Yes, Jade. I love seeing you both happy, he's family to me."
"That's gay," she said, playfully shoving me.
Grinning, I slipped my hand into her free hand and gestured for her to lead the way.
We walked around the faire for a while, then decided on an afternoon snack - so we headed back to the food area and was stopped by a woman, rudely staring at me and before she could say anything, Jade stepped between us and whatever look Jade had on her face made the woman second guess whatever she was going to say.
Smirking over Jade's shoulder at her, I gripped Riley's hand as the lady walked off, my free hand rubbed Jade's lower back gently. "My hero," I murmured into her ear before kissing her cheek and let my hand on her back slip to her ass, sliding into her back pocket.
Jade slipped her arm around my waist and I shifted closer to her as we followed Riley to get some food.
We got Riley home in time for him to get ready for bed and easily fall asleep with the exhaustion of how much walking we did at the faire and watching him run around the arcade.
He kicked ass on one game and won a thousand tickets in one hit.
That earned him a giant stuffed Dalmatian at the end of the night, as I sat at the kitchen table waiting on Jade to pack her bag, Alice came into the kitchen and rubbed my shoulder as she walked behind me.
"Hey, how's it going?" I asked, smiling at her as I shifted in my seat a little and wrapped my hands around my coffee mug that Jade so happily made me before she went to do her thing.
"Good, glad I'm taking time off work to spend with Riley while you've got Jade."
"Sure, leave me with the high maintenance child," I joked.
Alice laughed and shook her head, gesturing to Jade who wrapped her arms around me from behind.
"High maintenance? You're the one that needs to be maintained, Vega," Jade gruffly said and tickled my sides, causing me to yelp and jerk a little trying to get away from her assault.
"To be young and in love," Alice playfully sighed.
"To be old enough that you can eat all the ice cream you want and have both your kids either knocked out or out of the house for a week," Jade jested back.
"I've been doing that since before you were born, Jade."
"Oh, I've set Paw Patrol Sea Patrol for record so Riley can watch it when he gets back from his father's place tomorrow afternoon."
"Okay to whatever you just said," Alice said, and jade laughed lightly.
"The show with the dogs that talk that Riley likes."
"Oh, right… when are you two going?"
"As soon as Tori finishes her coffee," Jade said and I looked down at my cup before downing the last two mouthfuls and Jade took my empty mug from me and rinsed it before dropping a kiss on her mother's cheek. "I'll call you when we get there- or text depending on the time."
"We'll be splitting up the drive and be stopping for the night," I let Alice know before accepting her hug.
"Travel safe, girls."
We stopped by MJ's, picking up a few joints that I rolled at her kitchen table while she and Jade spoke and played with Sully.
I had ten rolled before I looked at the buds I had left.
Maybe buying a hundred dollars worth of pot wasn't the best idea, but I knew we'd be set for the week with the family now.
I packed the rest into a baggy and closed the tin I put the rolled ones into before burying them in the bottom of my bag.
"Ready?" I asked and Jade gave Sully one last pat before she came over to me.
"I'll see you when I get back, thanks for the happiness," I said, patting my bag.
"Thanks for the money, I was short on work pay this week. Totally just brought me food for the next five nights."
"You could get more food if you didn't only eat ramen," I teased.
"Ramen is a delicacy. Especially when you add stuff to it."
"Righto," I said, shaking my head with a smile. "Bye, Sully," I said, smiling and crouching down to kiss his nose as he came over to me, wagging his tail so hard that it hit the chairs, bench and even Jade's leg with each side-to-side swing. I gave him a final kiss on the forehead before following Jade out of MJ's house to her car.
A little while later, we were out on the highway with the windows down and music blasting whatever Jade felt like playing- not that I minded, really. While my hand rested on her thigh, both of us singing at the top of our lungs. Well, I did when I knew the song or the words at least. It appeared Jade had many covers of songs that were popular. Just in a screaming song.
