AN: This chapter takes place just after Tori gets out of hospital! (:
"So, they just let you go?" My mother asked as she helped Tori into the car.
"Uhm, there was a lot of convincing from Jade's end," she said, resting her head on my shoulder as I slid into the back seat beside her.
"So, it's all against medical advisory that you're leaving?" My mum asked.
We nodded.
My mum sighed and shook her head, but smiled nonetheless as she started the car to drive us home.
Tori rested her hand on my thigh, and I set my hand on top of hers, sliding my fingers between hers over the back of her hand.
I turned my head slightly, pressing a kiss to the top of Tori's head before leaning back in the seat.
By my calculations, Tori was nearing five months. And her bump, small as it was, was showing. I've seen and known many people, she definitely was the smallest pregnancy I've ever seen.
"Have you told your parents yet?" I asked softly, but I knew my mum could hear by the way she glanced in the mirror at us before looking back at the road.
Tori shook her head, hiding her face against my neck.
"I don't know how you've managed to stay so small throughout this, maybe you'll be able to hide the entire thing from them," I joked, making Tori laugh a little.
"Whatever you say, wife," she whispered, lifting her head to press a kiss to my cheek.
Okay, so maybe starting the whole 'wife' thing wasn't a good idea, but hearing Tori say it, definitely makes me know it wasn't a bad idea also. It sounded right slipping from her lips.
"You two didn't secretly elope while I was away did you?" My mum asked.
Tori giggled and blushed as she shook her head. "No, never. We'd never get married without you and Riley there."
My heart leaped. She didn't mention her family. Only mine.
Tori and I sat out in the pool shed with my mum, Tori was currently showing my mum all the different flavoured rolling papers she had.
She was currently rolling a bubblegum one. "My favourite," I murmured, mostly to myself. But Tori and my mum quickly looked to me. My mother with a surprised face, Tori with her eyebrows raised and an amused look on her face.
"What was that, dear?" My mother asked.
"I… uh... Excuse me, I think I heard the doorbell," I said, quickly getting up and leaving the shed, heading for the house.
My phone buzzed as I got to the kitchen to make myself a coffee.
"Bring me and your mum back coffee, please?"
I rolled my eyes. I knew mum wasn't mad though, cause she'd have followed me, or asked Tori to come get me so she could speak to us together.
I sent back a thumbs up emoji before making sure there was enough water in the machine to make the three coffees.
It didn't take too long to make them. I grabbed a tray big enough for the mugs and carried them down the back yard to the pool shed.
"So," my mum asked, handing a joint off to Tori before reaching for a mug. "Who was at the door, darling?"
Sighing, I set a coffee down in front of Tori on the small table she was sitting at.
"Jade, I don't care. You know that, I'm just disappointed that you didn't have your first experience with me here at home."
"Technically, you were at home. And so was I."
"Not helping, Jade," Tori hissed, slapping my thigh as I sat behind her on the couch. She leaned back against my legs and held the joint up to me.
I cradled my coffee in one hand before reaching to take the bubblegum tasting joint.
I brought it up to my lips and inhaled deeply before handing it over to my mother.
I took a few sips of my coffee before exhaling heavily, smoke billowing out in front of me.
"I know you said to come to you first if I ever wanted to try it, I'm sorry."
My mother nodded, accepting my apology easily and I leaned forward, pressing a kiss to the top of Tori's head.
"She took good care of me, we stayed in bed, watched movies, ate a lot of snacks, drank plenty of water."
Alice beamed at Tori, and I could tell by the look on her face, she was silently thanking my girlfriend for looking after me.
"So, everything's okay with the baby and you?" Alice asked, and Tori nodded.
"Yeah, everythings good. The nurse said that because I'm young, my period got messed up and decided to make a brief appearance. I've never heard of that before, but who am I to question a nurse?"
Nodding, my mother handed the joint back over to us and Tori took it, inhaling deeply as she put it between her lips.
It was too small for me to smoke, I never liked the burn of one that small. Tori didn't seem to care though.
Laying in my freshly made bed, Tori by my side talking on the phone to MJ, I looked up when I heard footsteps on the stairs outside my room, smiling when I saw Riley coming into view.
I climbed off my bed quickly and pulled my door the rest of the way open from it's half shut position and wrapped my arms around him, holding him tight.
"Miss you," he whispered as he hugged me back just as tight.
"Missed you too, buddy. Wanna come cuddle?"
He nodded, leading me back to my bed. He stopped at the side of it and took his shoes off before climbing up to snuggle into Tori's side.
"Hey, MJ, I gotta go," Tori said. And there was a brief pause before she pulled the phone away from her ear and ended the call, dropping her phone off the side of the bed without a care in the world as she wrapped her arms around Riley, and then over my waist too as I laid on the other side of him.
I smiled, putting my arm across them both and listened to Tori hum softly, her free hand awkwardly up between her body and Riley's, playing with his hair.
Something only she was allowed to do.
He hates having his hair played with otherwise. It was very rare I could touch his hair, and even rarer for my mum to do it.
It took me a while, but I finally figured out what Tori was humming.
A song from the film Anastasia, the one that her music box played.
I smiled over the top of Riley's head as I caught her eyes and blew her a kiss, causing her to smile even more as she continued to stroke her fingers through Riley's hair and keep humming.
It didn't take much, and Riley was asleep. He must have had a big day for him to fall asleep so quickly.
Then about five minutes later, I noticed Tori's eyes slowly flickering shut.
I smiled and cuddled closer to my two most favourite people, sorry mum, and closed my eyes.
I woke to my phone buzzing and the blaring of my alarm started playing.
Blindly reaching around above my head for where I usually stashed my phone, I cracked an eye open and found my bed empty, other than me, and found my phone on Tori's side of the bed with a note stuck to the top of it.
Huffing, I moved across the bed and pulled my phone off charge and shut the alarm off before looking at the note.
"My darling wife, I set an alarm to make sure you get up. Riley and I are waiting for you outside, miss you already. Coffee's warm and waiting xx"
I sat up and stretched before making my way to the bathroom for a quick shower and teeth scrubbing.
I brushed my hair, tying it up in a quick bun to get it out of my face, then made my way upstairs, stopping by the kitchen to grab some coffee.
Smiling, I saw another note attached to the coffee maker as I pulled the jug out from beneath it and poured the coffee into my mug, I looked at the note.
"Hope it's still warm, love you. Hurry outside, Marceline the vampire queen, xx. Riley and I have been hiding this present from you for weeks, sorry it's late. Hope you enjoy it."
Frowning in confusion, I turned to see Alice standing in the doorway. "Mum?"
"Come on, you need to wear this," she said, holding up a necktie. I raised my studded brow at her before sighing and nodding, making my way over to her, holding my mug close to my chest, taking a small sip as I turned my back to her so she could tie it behind my head and put her hand on my shoulders, guiding me outside.
"Sh, Riley. Here she comes," I heard Tori say before she giggled.
"Alright, why do I need to be blindfolded?" I huffed, and a second later, I blinked a few times, adjusting to the light as the sunshine blasted my eyes. I lifted one hand, shielding my eyes as I squinted before looking around to see Tori and Riley, standing suspiciously in front of Riley's old cubby house.
"Okay, what's going on?" I asked, moving down the pathway, wincing slightly as it burnt my bare feet.
"Open the door," Tori said, gesturing to the door of the tiny house, beaming at me as Riley rocked on his heels and twisted his hands together, a smile of his own lighting up his face.
I handed Tori my coffee after taking a mouthful and then kissed her cheek before I moved to open the door.
As the door opened, something flew out past my ankles and zoomed around the yard.
It took me a second, but I saw it, laying in the grass, a bright red bow around its neck.
"What?" I asked, looking from Riley, to Tori, to my mother. All of whom just shrugged and smiled.
"Happy late birthday, Jade," my mother said, coming over to press a kiss to the side of my head. "It's yours."
I took my coffee from Tori and sipped on it, taking a seat on the edge of the pathway, watching the black streak whizz past me a few times before zooming straight into my lap.
"What are you going to call her?" Tori asked, taking a seat beside me on the warm concrete.
I stared at the puppy for a minute, handing my coffee back to Tori as I stroked it's smooth fur and allowed it to chew on my fingers. It's razor sharp puppy teeth causing small amounts of pain, but nothing I couldn't handle.
"I'm not sure, what breed is it?"
"She's an Irish Wolfhound," my mother said, coming over to stand behind us as Riley sat on my other side, carefully watching the pup and making small noises of nerves and excitement combining.
"Irish Wolfhound? She's going to be huge, you're aware of that, right?" I asked, looking from Tori to my mum.
They both nodded.
"Well, okay then." I smiled, scratching the pup between its ears as it laid it's head in my lap, licking at Riley's thigh causing him to jump a little.
"It's okay, Ri. I won't let it hurt you, ever. Okay?"
I rested my arm around him, smiling as he curled in closer to my side.
There was going to be a lot of training put into this dog, but I'll honestly do whatever it takes. I've only been asking for a dog since before Riley was born, and and Irish Wolfhound was my number one pick in what I'd choose.
