Based on a picture on tumblr of Lady Penelope's living room where there are two flamingos on the mantlepiece.
She didn't know where they came from, although she could make an educated guess. One day her mantlepiece was clear, the next day there were two porcelain flamingos staring at each other. The only thing that had happened that day was a visit by the Tracy brothers.
They suited her cream and pink décor, and the yellow legs and beaks gave a subtle contrasting colour aesthetic she rather liked, so she left them there.
The next morning they were gone.
She frowned. No one had visited her yesterday, no one had broken anything, that she was aware of, so where had they gone?
'Parker, do you know where the flamingos have gone?' The man had the good grace to look embarrassed. 'Hi'm sorry, Me Lady. Hi took the liberty h'of removing 'em out h'of sight. Nasty things.'
Penny pondered this. Were they nasty things? She didn't think so, but as long as they hadn't been damaged she decided not to worry about them. After all, they hadn't been a direct gift.
The next time Gordon came to visit the flamingos were still wherever it was that Parker had hidden them. By the time Gordon left they were back on the mantlepiece. The next day they were gone again.
For the next few months the flamingos were ferried about the house by an increasingly desperate Parker, yet they always made their way back to the mantlepiece after every visit. And it wasn't just Master Gordon doing this, no. Somehow he'd gotten Master Alan involved too.
It came to a head almost nine months after they had first appeared.
This time Parker thought he had outdone himself with the hiding place. None of the Tracy boys ever came to this part of the house. Indeed, no one ever came to this part of the house. Imagine his shock when, just before the boys were leaving, he spied them sitting back on the mantlepiece!
He cleared his throat. 'Hi must hask you, Master Gordon, sir. 'Ave you been wandering h'about the 'ouse?' Gordon looked suitably shocked at the allegation.
'Wandering about, Parker? No, I haven't.' Parker ground his teeth. 'Then 'ow do you h'explain where they came from?' he asked, pointing to the figurines. Gordon was thoroughly perplexed, and he frowned. 'I bought them for Penny.'
And suddenly Parker was unsure. Gordon seemed not only to be genuinely confused as to what he was talking about, he hadn't even noticed they had been missing. So, for one last time, Parker hid the wretched things. And lay in wait.
Sure enough, patience paid off when not 24 hours later they were found by Bertie and picked up by Penny. Parker sat there, mouth open in shock.
'Do close your mouth, Parker, there's a good chap.'
'But, Me Lady!'
'I know, Parker, but what can I do? They are rather delightful little things, and Bertie does love them so.'
So the flamingos stayed on the mantlepiece.
