For Gumnut, who asked for Scott and his favourite pillow.

He has one. Everyone has one, and Scott is no exception. A favourite pillow.

Scott's tried many pillows over the years.

Down pillows. Soft and malleable, Scott finds these pillows shape well and occasionally he can be found hugging one in his sleep. However, they can sometimes shed feathers, the quills poking through the covers and sticking him, and they retain the heat, not something a hot-water-bottle of a man needs. Plus, they are not hypoallergenic, which can cause problems with Virgil and Alan.

Feather pillows. Nah uh. Never. They clump and get out of shape and again quills stick in you. Also not hypoallergenic.

Polyester pillows. Hmm. Lightweight and easy to keep clean, but again clumps easily into lumpy pillows. Gordon's already banned these as they are hazardous to the environment.

Memory foam. God, these are sooo comfy! They mould to the body as you sleep but return to their original shape when there is no weight. Scott favours a shredded memory foam that makes the pillow just that little bit more malleable. John complains that they smell, but Scott's never noticed it.

Kayo tried to get him to try a buckwheat pillow. Although the pillow was firm, and gave the best support to his neck, Scott couldn't sleep with the noise. He gets so little sleep as it is, the noisy rustling was too much.

Alan suggested if he didn't like buckwheat why didn't he try microbead filling? Again, Gordon vetoed that immediately. Way too bad for the environment. Besides which, they didn't retain their shape for long, the loft was quickly lost.

So what was Scott's favourite?

He had shredded memory foam on his bed, but that wasn't his favourite.

No, Scott's favourite pillow is one of his brothers' shoulders.
