For gumnut who asked for Hurt/Comfort Prompts 8: 'Look at me, okay? Breathe.' With Scott speaking to Virgil

Spoilers for Flame Out

'Breathe, Virgil. Just breathe.'

If looks could kill then Scott would have incinerated on the spot. It did not stop him chuckling at his brother's behaviour.

Scott looked over his shoulder at the dinner table. He and Virgil had gone to make coffee for everyone while the rest of the family chatted. Grandma had been insistent and even John had come down for dinner with their guest.

Virgil had done the deed. He had so many questions he wanted to ask Kip Harris, and the man was so amenable, but the first one had been from his Grandma, asking if he wanted to come to dinner. Once he had agreed to come, and Grandma had mentioned her 'spectacular' meatloaf surprise, Virgil and Gordon swung by their favourite Italian and made sure Scott had kept Grandma out of the kitchen.

The meal was a great success. Kip sat next to their Grandma, but she hadn't monopolised him, and Virgil had had opportunity to ask some questions.

And then, as he and Scott were making coffee, Virgil happened to glance over just in time to see Kip and Grandma kissing. He couldn't believe it!

Scott, noticing that Virgil had stopped talking, looked over to see what had grabbed his brother's attention. Screwing his face up momentarily, he glanced back at Virgil, standing there, mouth open.

'Look at me, ok? Breathe, Virgil. Just breathe.'

The chuckle got to Virgil, and he spun on Scott, frowning at him. 'How would you feel if that was your hero? And…'

'I get it, Virg. Can't say I'm completely ecstatic at the thought of our Grandma dating, but he's a good man. And she deserves a little happiness. Looking after us isn't that easy.'

Virgil deflated with a noisy breath.

'Yeah, you're right.'

'And since you know him so well, Virg, we've all decided you can be the one to give him The Talk.'

And for the second time that day Virgil was speechless.
