A Scayo fic. MariaShades prompted: Gentleness

He was a powerhouse, always on the move, always doing something. Whether that was rescuing people, dealing with TI or corralling unruly brothers (and yes, John and Virgil were included in that), Scott Tracy was a man of action.

Most people didn't see the gentle man behind the leader, the commander, the eldest brother. That title – quite rightly – sat with Virgil. But it didn't mean that Scott had missed that virtue in its entirety.

She saw it every day, in the little things he did for others. Putting the coffee on to warm for Virgil, pouring juice out and getting a celery crunch bar ready for Gordon for after swimming. Checking in with John even though it was unnecessary. Making sure there was always something edible in his room because he knew his brothers would raid his snack store. Making sure Alan had time to be a kid as much as they could.

Even on a rescue Scott exhibited gentleness. It was there in how he talked to both victims and relatives. In the gentle yet firm grasp of a hand as he pulled someone close, as he helped them out. In the soft voice and warm smile deployed to calm a frightened person, be they child or adult.

He even showed it in his business dealings. In the smile at his PA who he knew took lots of heat off his shoulders. In the way he always allowed others to speak first and then spent time considering what was said before replying. How he ensured everyone was looked after to the best of their ability.

She saw it in how he looked at her.

How his eyes lit up in the morning the first time they saw her, even though they'd been together all night. How he always set time aside each morning (rescues willing) to practice whichever exercise was on her list for that morning, even if it was only for five minutes before the world came calling. How he made time in their increasingly busy lives to just talk with her every day.

How he touched her.

'I can feel you watching me, you know.'

Scott stirred and without opening an eye he sleepily complained, one hand reaching across the bed to snag hers. Kayo laughed quietly and turned into the embrace, wrapping Scott's arms around her and leaning back against him.

He pressed a gentle kiss to her shoulder and they drifted off again.
