Chapter 2

The fate

An entity of Earth. A goddess in her own rights. She has a past she tries to forget and her only light in this messy world is her daughter. Somewhere between pain, war and loneliness her piece of light appeared. The birth of her child was not easy and she probably wouldn't have survived is she was a mortal. It was an unusual cold night of summer. Some said that during that night it was snowing. Very unusual for a birth of a child of light. But after all the pain she endured, after all the effort her sisters did in order to ease her pain, her child was brought to the immortal life. And then the three sisters appeared. The Fates made their entrance. Demeter hadn't seen them since the war and knew the fates rarely brought good news. There was a black smoke covering the room and the three sisters spoke in unison:

A child of light meant for the dark,

she will not rest until she is found

The more she grows

The more she'll find

The shadows calling from behind.

Her fate will only come to light

When she will face her biggest fright

An ancient soul she'll have to fight

Persephone, the Destroyer of Light.

And by that ending they were gone. All the goddess and nymphs that were present remained silent. Demeter took the child in her arms and spoke

'My sweet little treasure, the fates play a cruel game on us, but I will never allow it. You will always be safe, my little Kore.'

But nobody could mess with the fate. Her name was acknowledged to be Persephone and she was blessed by her mother as a goddess of spring. Nobody understood what the prophecy meant. They were at peace, the war was long over and 'the ancient soul' remained a mystery.

Times passed by and most forgot about what happened. Persephone was growing stronger and more beautiful each day, and the mortal realm seemed to flourish day by day. But lately Demeter could feel something was wrong. She could sense it too. The Earth beneath was calling her daughter. And she had no idea why, but she knew where the answer could be found. She had to go to the place she despises most, the house of her eldest brother: The Underworld.
