Chapter 9
Back home
Was it a good decision? What if she...what if something bad happens to her? Who will help her? No, she will learn to help herself. Those are the thoughts that haunt Demeter's mind at the moment. She is heading back home, back to her daughter. She has to tell her the news. How will she react? Will she be angry or will she understand?
''It is a beautiful night'' – Demeter tells herself as she walks trough the night's cold grass. She remembers her little girl – she always was a spark of joy, she is all she ever needed. That is why she struggles so hard to protect her. She actually made a deal with her devil brother just to keep her safe. But now Persephone is no longer that little girl. Her powers are growing stronger and stronger each day and there is something dark in those powers. Something Demeter couldn't understand but at the same time it felt familiar. She slowly enters in Persephone's room. She can see her form breathing – sleeping. She doesn't want to wake her up. Gently she places her hand on Persephone's forhead.
''My dear...I have something to tell you...something you might not like but I want you to trust me''
''mmmmmmh'' Persephone was opening her eyes
''Tomorrow you will go to the Underwold. It is not a punishment. I...I know that you can feel it too. The Earth beneath is calling you and for some reason that I don't know you have to go...''
''Mother?'' she was confused
''No...you are right to be confused. I am the selfish one this time. It is your choice. If you want to find answers I won't stop you from going. But if you want to remain here, you can stay. I will love and protect you no matter what path you choose.''
''Yes, Mother'' she sounded almost lifeless.
''Think about it and sleep well my daughter'' Demeter kissed her forhead and left
Outside, in that beautiful quiet night, two voices broke the silence.
''Ugh...you really need to stop using this carriage...you actually hit that tree!'' a female voice was whispering
''You are the one to speak?! You just woke up from that wine!'' a male voice responded
''Shhhhh we are close to home! Mom might hear us!''
Persephone was sneaking back into her place.
''Hermes go at the temple, you are not able to leave tonight. Use my old room to get some rest and hopefully if nobody figures we left we will be alive by tomorrow''
''Always the optimist Seph...'' Hermes was smiling ''by the way...with who were you in the gardens back on Olympus?''
''...I...don't know...he didn't mention his name...'' she was suddenly dissapointed
''What? Wow...your mother would be proud'' he was sarcastic
''Well...I don't know what to say about my mother, but my father would sure be'' she smiled back.
They parted ways and Persephone found her perfect copy awake in her room. Why wasn't she sleeping? There was no time to think about that. She could feel her mother was close, she probably came back. She made the copy dissapear and quickly got into her bed falling instantly asleep.
