"Did you pack tissues?"
"Wouldn't dream of leaving home without them."
"What about your handkerchief?!"
"Don't worry, I've got that too. I gotta go now. Wish me-" Izuku was about to say luck, but decided against it. "...Gotta hurry."
"Izuku, wait!"
Izuku turned back around towards his mom, she looked like she had a lot of things to say. Finally she smiled at Izuku, with tears welling up, "You look great."
Izuku smiled back, "I'll make you two proud! Bye mom! Bye dad!"
Inko waved goodbye, Hisashi, who had stayed quiet the entire time because he was afraid he would start crying again, waved as well.
("When did he get so cool?!")
Tohru made to follow Izuku out the door, "Don't worry, I'll take care of Izuku!"
"Thank you Tohru."
"I'll crush anyone who gets in his way!"
"T-thank you, Tohru." Inko awkwardly chuckled.
Inko walked through the portal in the living room, escorting Hisashi because he couldn't see with the tears. Tohru closed the portal behind them and made her way out of the apartment.
Izuku and his friends were flying on Tohru's back heading to UA.
Izuku asked, "Tohru, I know you're always excited to fly me around, but couldn't you have teleported us to UA?"
"I… Forgot to place a marker at UA… I was only there once, you know?" Tohru responded, somehow looking flustered in her dragon form.
Izuku looked behind him to check on his friends.
Katsuki was laying on his back, hands behind his head, trying to take a quick nap.
Himiko was leaning against Izuku's back, drooling a bit, in a deep sleep.
'Was I the only one who was able to sleep last night?'
Ever since meeting Tohru in the woods, and surviving the third murder attempt from the sludge villain, Izuku took sleep a lot more seriously.
He checked his arm, blackwhip was poking out a bit, flailing in the wind.
Ever since the casino Izuku hasn't been able to contact Banjo, nor did he receive any sort of visit from him.
When Tohru and All Might asked him about the blackwhip he was only able to tell them Banjo's last message after he defeated the villain.
'I'm going to inherit six quirks, and considering one of them almost killed me multiple times when it first appeared… I'm pretty sure I'll be alright…'
Izuku shook his final thoughts away as his new school entered his sights.
Izuku and his friends were walking down the halls of UA, headed to their classes. Tohru had gone ahead of them after dropping them off to visit the principal. Currently the three friends were in a hurry since the school was a lot bigger than they expected.
"Shouldn't there be a tour guide or something!" Katsuki complained.
"Why am I even following you two?" Himiko grumbled. "My class is probably on the other side of the campus for all I know."
"Don't be dramatic, Himiko. It's 1-B, it'll be right next to ours." Izuku tried to reassure her.
Finally they reached the door to 1-A.
"What a huge door… I guess it has to be accessible to everyone."
"Do you think Chorogon could fit through there?"
"In her dragon form?"
"With that ego of hers."
"Ironic, coming from you…"
As her friends bickered with each other, Himiko noticed the door to 1-B. A bit farther away than she would have liked. She fidgeted with the knife hidden in the pocket of Izuku's tracksuit pants she was wearing under her skirt. (Although at this point, they really just belong to her now.)
She felt Izuku slightly tug at one of her hair buns, "Hey, it's alright. We're still in the same school, isn't that what you really wanted? We can still see each other on campus." Izuku messed with her hair a bit more, trying to get his fill in before she had to leave for her class.
"Love you~"
"Whatever…" She grumbled, walking away.
Katsuki opened the class door, "Come on Deku, what are you standing there for?"
"Hold on, I have to wait for-"
From the other end of the hallway Himiko yelled back, "Love you too!"
"Alright, let's go."
They found their seats, Katsuki at the second desk, and Izuku at the very back of the class, with no one else in his row.
"Why am I all the way in the back?! I thought I was student 18?!"
"Probably because of that Dragon plus one you brought with you." Katsuki reasoned.
Izuku's head hung low, "Oh, right."
Oh well, it's not so bad.
Another student entered the classroom, it was the taller student who berated Izuku.
Oh boy.
"Hey, you!"
Katsuki opened his eyes, his short nap disrupted. "Huh, what?"
"Take your foot off the desk! You're not only disrespecting the students who came before us, and the ones to come after. But you are also insulting the craftsman-"
"Disrespecting?!" Katsuki exclaimed, turning towards Izuku, "Hey, Deku! Get over here! The guy who disrespected you in front of everyone is berating me for being disrespectful!"
Izuku begrudgingly put himself between the two, "Kacchan, please stop."
"Hey, buddy! What middle school di'ja go to, huh?!" Katsuki kept badgering.
Izuku was trying to push Katsuki back into his seat, "Kacchan!"
The taller student was shocked by the behavior, but still introduced himself. "I- I'm from Somei Private Academy, my name is Tenya Iida."
"Katsuki Bakugo, from some dump school, I forgot the name." Katsuki replied, surprisingly calm.
Izuku breathed a sigh of relief, 'We can be civil now.' "Izuku Midoriya, from… I'm sorry, I just realized I also forgot our middle school's name."
"Oh! It's you! I recognize those feral eyes!" Iida said.
"Again with that?!"
"Midoriya, you perceived the true nature of the practical exam, while I did not! I misjudged! You were the superior candidate!" Iida was bowing.
"What?! No, I didn't perceive anything! I was just doing what I thought was right!"
"Ah! So humble too! As expected of the one who placed first!" Iida managed to be impressed by Izuku's words.
"I was only three points behind! And that was with villain points alone!" Katsuki argued.
"Hey! I recognize that curly hair!" A voice called from the doorway.
They all turned around to the entrance. Izuku realized it was the nice girl from the exams who was greeting him.
"And yup! I recognize those feral eyes too!"
"Again?! Seriously?! Kacchan, my eyes don't look like that right?!" Izuku asked with desperation.
"I didn't want to say anything, but… You know what Chorogon's eyes look like when she sneezes and someone says 'Bless you'?"
"That bad?!"
"If you're here to socialize then get out…"
Yet another person made their entrance, except this time it was a cocooned caterpillar on the floor.
"...What the hell?..." Katsuki whispered.
The caterpillar spoke, "This is- wait, hold on…" He took a long sip from a juice pouch. "Ahh!... the hero course."
The entire class was now realizing that there was a person inside the caterpillar.
"None of you are very rational, huh." A hobo came out of its cocoon. "Anyways, I'm your home room teacher, Shota Aizawa, pleased to meet you."
"Aren't the teachers here supposed to be pro heroes?" Katsuki asked Izuku. "Do you recognize him?"
Izuku shook his head, "No, I don't-"
Then he noticed one of the other students in the class. The purple haired student's eyes widened, most likely recognizing their teacher.
Izuku grimaced, 'Oh no, did someone else recognize a pro hero before me?!'
Shinso, not noticing Izuku's coveting look, was having his own qualms, 'It's really him! It's Eraserhead! I can not embarrass myself in front of him! …Why do I feel a predatory gaze?'
←/↓\→
Class 1-A were at the training grounds in their surprisingly comfortable gym uniforms.
"Quirk apprehension test?" The class asked.
"Actually, I said quirk assessment test, but whatever…"
The nice girl, who Izuku now knew as Uraraka, asked, "What about the entrance ceremony?"
"Nah…"
…
"... Anyways, you'll be doing your fitness tests from middle school, but with quirks."
Aizawa gave the class a look over, his gaze stopped on Izuku. He frowned.
During Nezu's insane rambling at the entrance exam, he had accidentally revealed All Might's favoritism for Izuku. The UA staff were able to determine that Izuku was the dragon kid of the dragon duo All Might had been seen with. They didn't know what his connection with All Might actually was, but realized it must have something to do with Kobayashi-san so they decided to steer clear from that.
(Present Mic had suggested that Izuku was their secret love child, but Aizawa had smacked him upside the head for saying that.)
'No doubt an attention seeker, just like All Might…'
Aizawa didn't have the strongest opinion about Izuku. He was under the impression that the kid was just looking for attention with that stunt at the beach. He was also under the impression that Izuku had held back a lot at the entrance exam. 'No doubt lazy too…'
But he was connected to Kobayashi-san, who is his mom or maid or whatever…
Meaning that Aizawa couldn't expel him from his class, or else he would ruin Nezu's fun… He could go the rational route and expel the entire class just to get rid of him and send him to Vlad, but knowing Nezu he would just make Aizawa teach a class with just Izuku as a student.
Meaning he couldn't use his usual deceptive ruse to motivate the students.
'Looks like I'll have to use something else…'
"Bakugou, you had the most villain points at the exam, how far could you throw in middle school?" There was no way he was letting that showboat Midoriya go first.
"Oh, that I do remember! Sixty-seven meters."
Aizawa passed him a softball, "Try again, but with your quirk. Anything goes as long as you don't leave that circle."
'Guess I'll add a boom to this pitch…'
"DIE!"
With the full force of an explosion, Katsuki propelled the innocent softball flying into the sky, causing a shockwave.
"It's important to know our limits." Aizawa said, showing Katsuki's results on his tablet.
"750!" One student said.
"That's so manly!" Another exclaimed.
"Die? I thought he dropped that back in middle school?" Izuku mumbled.
Jiro, a student that could hear Izuku's mumbling, asked him, "Did he also drop his inside voice in middle school?! I swear he yelled louder than the explosion!"
Izuku noticed she was clutching her ears in pain. Oh, and also the earphone jacks from her earlobes.
"Do you have super hearing with those- Wait, bad question, of course you do, you're in pain from the sound wave right? Do you hear from the jacks or both your ears and the jacks? Would that give you double hearing?"
Izuku was slapped upside the head.
"Deku, stop overanalyzing other people's quirks in front of them without permission first." Katsuki scolded.
Izuku winced, "R-right, sorry about that."
"What?!" Jiro yelled, still clutching her ears.
("How was she able to hear your mumbling earlier?")
"So are you two like, friends or…?" Uraraka asked.
Izuku and Katsuki side-eyed each other.
"Y-yes?"
"Hard maybe."
Aizawa brought their attention back. "If you guys are done socializing, I'd like for us to move on to the tests now." Aizawa started grinning a scary grin. "Are you guys bored or something? Then how about this, let's play a game, whoever gets last place across all events will receive extra homework for the next month."
"What?! No! You can't do that!" Kaminari yelled.
"You're so cruel! That's so unfair!" Mina whined.
"I'm guessing those two don't do well in school…" Katsuki said.
Aizawa continued to smile. "Life's unfair. Welcome to the hero course! If I'm going to suffer then I'm taking you all down with me!"
("Where did that last part come from?" Izuku asked wearily.)
"He expelled 154 students… Was he aiming for a record or something?!"
Toshinori didn't have much to do, his first class was on the second day so he was on campus to do some last minute checkups.
Then he got distracted and started researching the other teachers to see if he could find any worthwhile notes for Izuku.
"Who's breaking a record?"
Toshinori looked up from his reading to see Tohru walking into the teacher's lounge.
"Kobayashi-san, I didn't know you were here. Shouldn't you be with young Izuku?" He asked.
"I was at the principal's office. He had a lot of questions for me. Don't worry, I didn't say anything incriminating about myself."
"Oh, I see…" Toshinori pondered a bit, 'Probably just trying to be thorough. Nezu most likely just wants to make sure he made the right decision in having her protect the students.'
"He was also asking me about Izuku's quirk." Tohru said.
Toshinori seemed surprised, "He did? But, he should know that Izuku has One for All."
"Oh, right, sorry, I meant to say Izuku's quirk registration." Tohru corrected.
"His quirk- Wait, that's right, I never asked him what he had registered as his quirk before…"
Tohru snorted, "Ha! And you're supposed to be his teacher? Here, I carry a copy around."
Toshinori read what was supposedly Izuku's quirk registration.
…
"This- this can't be… Izuku wouldn't write something like this? Would he?"
"No. Maybe? I don't know. But if you're wondering, I was the one who came up with it!" Tohru said with pride.
"He asked you to?"
"No, it was a surprise! You should have seen him, his face pale, he had an abnormal heartbeat, he kept clutching his left arm in pain!" Tohru laughed giddily. "Yup! I made the right decision registering his quirk as-"
"Dragon Mage?"
As the students took their tests, Aizawa had to give another look over at Izuku's profile, just to make sure he didn't misread it the night before.
Quirk- Dragon Mage: The user has a stockpile of energy in their body used to enhance physical abilities and cast six powerful magic spells.
'The fuck kind of cockamamie description is that?!'
Further description says that Izuku only has access to one of his six spells along with the enhancement.
'Looks like I was right, he's lazy. He's not using his full potential because he doesn't have access to it. The kid most likely thought he could make it with just super strength. He probably only chose those tendrils to make himself look cool.'
Aizawa had no way of knowing that Izuku doesn't get to choose which quirk he unlocks next.
Izuku, for the most part, was doing okay at the tests if you ignore the times he kept tripping himself up with blackwhip.
"Deku, get a grip already!"
Right, there's no way he can mess up the grip strength test. He wouldn't have to use blackwhip, right?
"540 kg! Are you a gorilla or an octopus?!"
Izuku looked over at one of the other students who was able to not make a fool of himself.
'Multiple arms?'
Izuku looked at his device, 'Maybe if I use Full Cowling and blackwhip?'
Gripping with five percent, Izuku summoned a couple of tendrils to wrap around the handle.
'No good? I can wrap it around but I can't grip it…'
Then he remembered the casino, how blackwhip had effectively tied him up to a column.
He focused his hold, wrapping with blackwhip multiple times, condensing the tendrils…
Then the device broke. Making a loud crunch noise upon its death.
"Wha-?!"
Izuku lost his focus, releasing his grip, the device dropped to the floor in pieces. Everyone watched him with shocked expressions.
Then backed away.
Izuku laughed awkwardly. "Heh…heh, oops?"
Aizawa frowned again, "Did you have to break it?"
Izuku was only slightly embarrassed, after all, he was tripping himself all day.
On the bright side, he got a couple thumbs up from Shoji. Izuku smiled, at least he got someone's approval.
"Do your arms have a mind of their own too? I noticed you made two other fists on your left side, can you make other body parts? What's with the mask? (Sorry, that was rude…) You are really ripped, what's your training-" Izuku got smacked again.
'Crap! I hope I didn't weird him out!'
"Sorry about that…"
But Shoji reassured him, "It's fine. Many people tend to have questions for me. You're the first to be open about it. I was just taken off guard because I wasn't expecting you to mutter as badly as that kid in the corner."
Izuku looked confused, "Huh? Who are you-?"
"No! Don't turn around, he's looking in this direction!" Shoji stage whispered.
Shinso stood off to the side trying his best with the grip strength test. He was only able to achieve the same score he got in middle school.
He sighed.
'Damn… I'm lagging behind… Even that kid that kept tripping himself is starting to surpass everyone else.'
Shinso scanned the area, it wasn't just the green haired kid, there was also his friend(?) with the explosion quirk. Then there was the girl who just kept getting top scores by spawning random objects. ('Is her quirk a pocket dimension?!')
Then there was that kid he believes to be Endeavor's son who, for some reason, was standing in the corner muttering to himself while writing in a notebook.
'I just need one amazing score! Then I can at least impress Eraserhead!'
Aizawa was muttering to himself, most likely about what to write for Izuku's score.
'He chose me specifically! I can't let him down!'
"Guess I'll just add a 1 to Shoji's score…" Aizawa mumbled, not noticing one of his student's inner turmoil.
Next up was the softball throw.
From around the corner All Might poked his head out to watch the class, or more specifically, Izuku.
All Might noticed Izuku's tense posture, most likely caused by Aizawa's judgmental staring.
'Watch out Izuku. This guy hates media attention. We don't see eye to eye.'
All Might doesn't know that Izuku's posture was a result of his intense muttering from trying to figure out the best way to throw the softball.
And Aizawa's staring was because he just wanted to move on already.
Tohru peeked from around the corner as well, above All Might. "That's the guy you were talking about? …Shoot, now I'm worried…"
All Might looked up towards her, "Because of the expulsion thing?"
Tohru shook her head, "No, because there's something off about that guy. Or… his quirk really."
"What about it?"
Tohru grimaced, "The fact that I can sense it at all…"
…
"I'm not following…" All Might finally said.
Tohru sighed, "It's most likely nothing, I sensed that Mic guy's quirk too and he seems nice."
"Hey, what are you standing on anyway?"
"I could just throw it… But I need an incredible score to make up for the constant tripping… I can't just use basic strength, I need to figure out how to also utilize blackwhip…"
Iida watched Izuku's muttering with interest, "He seems really focused, he's been standing like that for the past five minutes."
Katsuki spoke up, "The nerd's feeling the pressure right now. He wants to redeem himself for the sorry display from earlier."
"Is he having problems with his quirk?" Uraraka asked.
"In a sense." Katsuki shrugged, "He only developed the quirk two months before the entrance exam, and blackwhip three weeks before."
Iida and Uraraka were surprised to hear that.
"And he still took the entrance exam?! Truly Midoriya is the-"
"Coolest guy ever!" Uraraka interrupted Iida, "I mean, did you see how he took down that zero pointer? That punch was awesome!"
Katsuki smirked, "That's Deku for ya! He won't give up on being the absolute best hero he can be, even if it kills him."
"So manly…" Kirishima whispered with tears in his eyes.
"I give up!" With Full Cowl Izuku threw the ball with a simple throw, enough force to pick up wind.
"I'll kill him!"
Kirishima placed a hand on Katsuki's shoulder, "I see you're in the market for a new rival…"
"Who are you again?" Katsuki asked.
Izuku limped his way over to the others, "I think I did good!"
"Deku, what's wrong?" Katsuki- wait no, it was Uraraka that said that.
"(Deku?) Uh… I tried using half my full strength, looks like it's still too much to handle even with Full Cowling."
"And it doesn't hurt?" Iida asked, "Because you're looking a little… Red?"
"Thanks for the concern, and yes, I am in excruciating pain right now." Izuku responded with his eye twitching.
Shinso watched the exchange, 'That was only half of his strength. Damn, must be lucky to be blessed like that-' He shook those thoughts away, 'No! I shouldn't be thinking like that! I was chosen to be in this class! Eraserhead believes I'm equal to everyone else! I just have to prove it!'
"Shinso, you're up…" Aizawa called.
Shinso winced, he had to come up with something.
"He hasn't been doing very well has he?" Katsuki asked.
"I'm surprised you were paying attention to other people long enough to know that." Izuku responded. "He hasn't shown his quirk yet… Maybe it's not suited for these physical tests?"
"I can relate to that." Hagakure said.
"Uh… Anyway, maybe he has an intelligence quirk? That would explain how he recognized our teacher before I could." Izuku suggested.
Katsuki raised his eyebrow, "You're still on about that?"
"No! I'm not jealous!"
"I didn't say-"
As he listened to two classmates bickering with each other in the background, Shinso looked at the softball in his hand, desperately trying to think of a plan.
'It's important to know our limits, huh? That's what Eraserhead said. But that kid didn't even use his full strength… Wait'
"Hey, Sensei, you said anything goes, right?" Shinso asked.
"Yes, you're allowed to do whatever as long as you don't leave that circle." Aizawa answered. 'Does he have a plan?'
Shinso turned around on his spot and faced the other students watching him. He addressed Izuku, "Hey, you with the feral eyes-"
"Seriously?" 'What? Does he want to gloat now?!'
"How does your quirk work?"
"Oh! Uh…" Izuku wasn't expecting that question. "I guess it-" Then his eyes were blank.
Katsuki was the first to notice, "Deku? What's with you? Did you not get enough sleep last night?"
Izuku ignored him.
"Walk over here and take this softball." Shinso requested.
Izuku did what he was told, no one stopped him, they figured this was Shinso's quirk and didn't want to interrupt.
"Kobayashi-san, how are you not freaking out about this?"
"I'm pretty sure Izuku is just making a friend right now."
'Anyone would be better than Katchin…'
Shinso took a moment to think to himself. "Stand in front of the circle, I don't want to wait for you to walk… Then throw the ball with your right arm at full strength."
Izuku did what he was told, powering up One for All into his right arm and throwing the ball.
The throw caused a shockwave that rocketed the ball into the air, and blew the other students back with the resulting wind.
Class 1-A were forced back, trying to block the wind with their arms.
"This is insane!" Kaminari shouted.
"What?!" Jiro shouted, clutching her ears again.
Mineta was blown away like a tumbleweed, "Son of a bitch!"
Aizawa watched the spectacle from afar, 'So this is what he's been hiding…'
Shinso was forced to the ground to keep from flying away.
Izuku's arm flopped to his side, purple and bleeding, his eyes blinked a couple times before he slowly turned around to look at Shinso.
Shinso flinched, 'Crap! Is he mad?'
Izuku blinked a bit more before speaking, "Hey! Do that again! I was able to talk to the voice in my head again!"
"...What?" 'Not the worst reaction someone's had to being brainwashed I guess…' Shinso thought, then a blur shot past him, throwing him off balance as he was trying to stand up.
"Izuku! Are you alright? Gosh! How many licks is it going to take to fix your arm?" Tohru wanted to hug Izuku, but held back knowing she would only make his pain worse.
"I'm fine, Tohru." He wasn't… He just didn't want anyone else to worry. "I can probably go to Recovery Girl later. It's a good thing I didn't Full Cowl my whole body or I probably wouldn't be able to walk right now…"
Aizawa watched the display, 'Wait, he was holding back because he can't handle the full force of his quirk? And from what I heard from Bakugou, he can't handle his quirk because he only recently developed it… I may have misjudged him…'
Aizawa wasn't going to admit this to anyone.
Then he watched Shinso, who finally manage to stand up. 'And Shinso realized this before I did. Which was why he asked for Midoriya to only use his right arm… Maximizing power while minimizing damage… Just so he wouldn't accidentally cripple one of his classmates.' Aizawa smiled, 'This kid…! Looks like this year won't be as bad as I thought.'
(In truth, Shinso had no way of knowing Izuku could force his quirk into one body part. The vestiges of One for All were trying to wake Izuku up by flicking two of his fingers, but were interrupted by the full arm throw, resulting in Izuku using 100 percent into his right arm.)
And then the smile stopped as Tohru started pointing a finger at Shinso. "Hey you!"
("Walking away…" Kaminari mumbled.
"What?!" Jiro shouted next to him.)
"What do you think you're doing to Izuku?!"
Shinso winced, 'Not the worst reaction someone's had to me brainwashing their son…'
Izuku stepped in between them, "Tohru! It's okay! This guy didn't break any rules!"
"But he broke your body!" Tohru shouted.
"I broke my body! He only broke my arm!"
"Not the best argument Deku!" Katsuki shouted from the background.
Aizawa sighed, activating his quirk, "That's enough-"
And then Tohru exploded.
…And now there was a dragon standing in the middle of the clearing.
"...Huh, well that just happened…" Sero muttered.
"What?! What happened?! I still can't hear!" Jiro shouted.
"But… you can still see…" Yaoyorozu pointed out.
"That's the joke…" Kaminari sighed.
"Tohru?! What are you doing?!" Izuku asked in surprise.
Tohru was just as surprised, "Wha-? I'm not- I didn't do anything!" She said checking her body.
"I erased your quirk." Aizawa explained, "...Also, I was not aware you were born a dragon, I guess?" He muttered, raising an eyebrow.
Shinso watched in awe as Aizawa's hair started to float, revealing his goggles, and his eyes glowed red. "Amazing… That's the power of-"
"Erasure! It's Eraserhead, I said it first! Everyone heard that!" Izuku shouted.
("What?!")
Izuku whispered, "Tohru… what's wrong?"
"...he erased my magic…" Tohru said with disbelief.
Izuku couldn't believe what he just heard, unfortunately he still had to salvage the situation.
He faced Aizawa, "Uhh! That's right! Tohru has a dragon mutation! She uses her quirk to give herself a human body!"
Yaoyorozu placed a hand on her chin, "So her quirk is like the opposite of Ryukyu's quirk?"
"...did she choose that body…" Mineta muttered.
Uraraka asked Katsuki, "So is Deku a dragon too?"
"What?! No, of course not!" Katsuki started thinking, "Maybe… I don't know. If you are what you eat, then Deku is a dragon in the sense that he's been eating dragon meat for years now."
"...What?" Uraraka was even more confused.
(Todoroki started scribbling in his notebook again.)
Aizawa was applying eye drops, "Don't make me use my quirk so much… It gives me serious dry eye…"
"That's too bad!" Izuku said as Tohru transformed back, still looking at her hands in confusion.
"Let's just get on with the rest of the tests already…" Aizawa grumbled.
Unfortunately for Shinso, he wasn't able to figure out a way for his quirk to help him with the rest of the tests. So he still placed last among the class.
(Well, there were a couple of ways, but they involved Izuku…)
"Anyway, we're done here." Aizawa said. "Study your curriculum for the class or whatever. Midoriya, have Recovery Girl fix you up, and try not to die. Tomorrow's trials aren't going to be easier. Shinso, could I have a word."
The rest of the class left the field to head to class. Izuku and Tohru were headed to the nurse's office.
Shinso tensed as the field was now silent.
"First of all… I lied about the homework thing." Aizawa said. "That was meant to be a ruse, to bring out the best in all of you…"
Shinso was still feeling pressure, 'I forgot about that… I was too busy trying not to embarrass myself.'
"Uh… Don't tell the rest of the class, obviously. Second, it's obvious you're way behind everyone else."
Shinso flinched.
"It's fine, I understand, you thought you could get by with just your quirk. This is UA, we'll teach you better than that." Aizawa scratched his cheek. "If you want… I can still give you that 'extra homework', it'll just be some private tutoring on using your own capture weapon…"
Shinso was surprised by what he just heard, "Seriously! I-I… of course! I mean! I appreciate the offer Aizawa sensei! I'll make you proud!"
Aizawa smiled, "Glad to hear. Now… run along now."
Shinso made his way back to class, with his head held high.
'What a good kid… Now I see why Nezu chose him.'
Shinso couldn't stop smiling, 'At least Aizawa wasn't disappointed in me! And I get my own capture weapon! So this day is still a win!' He paused for a bit. 'Oh. I really need to apologize to that Dragon kid…'
"Oh man, I'm about to pass out…"
"Need me to carry you?"
"Honestly? I'd like that- Wait, no. I don't want to look weak in front of Himiko…"
Katsuki caught up to Izuku and Tohru at the gate, hearing their conversation. "Didn't she kidnap you once? I'm pretty sure that's as vulnerable as you can get in front of someone. Besides, you'll make her worry if you force yourself to stand in that condition."
"Aww! Katchin does care!" Tohru teased.
"Like hell!"
Izuku felt a hand placed on his shoulder, "How's your arm?" It was Iida.
"Gah! Iida! It's fine, thanks to Recovery Girl. Also.. I'm still a bit sore…" Izuku muttered.
"Oh! I'm so sorry!" Iida released his hold.
"It's fine…"
Katsuki turned to Tohru, "You're not freaking out?"
Tohru shrugged, "I'm sure Izuku is just making a friend. Speaking of which…"
"Hey! You guys headed to the station? Wait up!" Uraraka called.
"Sorry Tohru, looks like we're taking the subway home." Izuku apologized.
Tohru pouted.
"What's wrong Chorogon? He's just making friends right now." Katsuki smirked.
"Whatever…"
Uraraka looked over at the group, "Let's see, you're 'Bakugo', Lida, Tohru and Deku right?"
"Finally, someone gets my name right!"
"It's… Iida actually…"
"Yeah sure, use my first name that's fine…"
"Deku?!"
From afar they heard another voice call out to them as they ran towards them, "Hey! Dragon kid! Wait up!"
Tohru scowled, "Oh, it's that Shinso guy…"
"I'm surprised you remembered his name…" Izuku said, "Uh, hey, Shinso, did you need something."
Shinso stopped in front of Izuku, hands on his knees, "(God, I'm out of shape)… Hey, listen, about what happened earlier-"
"Oh yeah! Your quirk! It's awesome!" Izuku praised.
"Uh- I… what?"
"Oh, sorry about that. Your quirk is brainwashing right? If you're here to apologize, it's fine, I get it."
"Are you sure? Is it really okay?" Shinso asked.
"Of course! I'm not mad or anything!"
"I still am!" Tohru complained.
"Ignore her." Izuku said. "Your quirk is amazing. It's perfect for hero work!"
"Of course, a quirk that can stop confrontation without violence… As expected of Midoriya to spot someone's potential!" Iida said.
("Dude… you're giving me too much credit…")
Shinso was at a loss for words, "I… thank you." He finally said, with an awkward smile.
Himiko showed up, "Hey Izuku! Check it out! Vlad sensei let me have an extra gym uniform to take home!"
Izuku noticed that Himiko was wearing one of the pants under her skirt, "Does that mean I can have my tracksuit back-?"
"Hey, who are these guys?" Himiko asked.
"We're Deku's classmates." Uraraka said.
"What?! Why'd you call him that?! Are you insulting him?!" Himiko yelled.
Iida adjusted his glasses. "I'm sure she didn't mean-"
"Hey! Aren't you that guy that disrespected Izuku in front of everyone?!" Himiko accused, having recognized Iida.
Katsuki scoffed, "Not the best first impression so far you two. (Better than mine though…) It's a good thing she doesn't know about Drowzee breaking Deku's arm earlier…"
"What?! What happened to Izuku's arm?!"

Toshinori showed up for dinner, at the table he spoke, "It's a good thing Aizawa didn't expel anyone today, wonder what made him change his mind?"
"Probably recognized my greatness!" Katsuki replied.
"Uh, sure…" Toshinori didn't know how to respond. "Anyways, no time to rest on your laurels, kids. Tomorrow, the real test begins!"
"Hey, Tohru… what happened back there at school with Aizawa sensei?" Izuku asked.
"Your teacher is magic." Tohru said like she was explaining the weather.
"Umm, what?"
"No, sorry. I should be more specific. His quirk is magic." Tohru said.
"I'm not following…"
"It's not that weird, that Present Mic has magic in his quirk too."
"I'm sorry… I still don't-"
"They're both magic in the same sense that you're magic."
"Now I'm more confused!"
"Oh right, I guess it's similar but not the same…"
"Elaborate please!"
Tohru started thinking, "Let's see, how do I explain… Think of magic as ink and I'm the pen, and you're a blank notebook. Me feeding you my tail meat is like me writing notes and drawings in your blank pages, strengthening your body. You can't use magic, but it's affected your body. Aizawa and Mic have been exposed to magic in a similar way."
"They've been eating someone? Wait, are they also freakishly strong?"
"No, the magic only changed their quirks. Most likely from an otherworlder those two knew in the past affecting them with some sort of spell. From what I've gathered those two don't know about it. Also, none of the other teachers have magic, so I don't know who that otherworlder is."
"An otherworlder Eraserhead and Present Mic knew? Maybe they're a pro hero?"
Tohru shrugged, "Most likely a mage using magic to disguise themselves as a pro hero."
"Woah! That sounds awesome! I have to meet this person someday!" Izuku said excitedly.
Toshinori sipped his tea, 'Someone who both Aizawa and Yamada knew? Maybe it was a classmate from their school days…'
"Hey, why wasn't your class in the entrance ceremony earlier?" Himiko asked.
"I think Aizawa sensei wanted a head start on the quirk assessment." Izuku replied.
Katsuki nodded, "Yeah, that guy was sleeping behind his desk after we were done. Still a better teacher than the ones we got at that crappy middle school… Aloe Vera?"
"You mean Aldera?"
"Aldera!" Both Izuku and Katsuki mused.
Author's note: Can Shinso's quirk activate other people's quirk? I tried looking it up but didn't get a straight answer. Oh well, not that it matters anymore. The idea was that whether he could or not he would have picked Izuku either way. Izuku seemed to be the one with the highest base strength who would also respond to Shinso.
(Shoji didn't seem like the talkative type)
Aizawa can erase quirks and magic, buffing his already broken quirk. That also explains how he doesn't know about otherworlders, he's never encountered a non mutation 'quirk' he couldn't erase.
(During his hero career that is, but I doubt he used it that much before entering UA to cause suspicion)
Tohru without magic is just a dragon who can talk. I figured she would have learned Japanese at this point and only uses translation magic just in case. Also, I don't know if dragons use magic to speak so let's just assume they have vocal chords in that form.
(I mean... it's fanfiction, so whatever, right?)
(Right?)
Omake
Guess (again)
Nezu: What am I?
Izuku: Escaped science experiment?
Himiko: Bleached Monokuma?
Tohru: Still don't know what a platypus is…
Toshinori: Uhhhhhh… The principal?
Nezu: Oh, finally! Someone said it! I've only been giving the answer for decades now!
Katsuki: How old are you?
Nezu: …
…
…Gotta go…
Katsuki: Seriously! Again?!
Obvious twist is obvious
Izuku: Wow, an otherworlder that both Eraserhead and Present Mic knew? I wish I could meet them someday! I bet they're an amazing pro hero!
Shigaraki-san's Portal Mage Butler: Sneezes
Great, Tomura's got me doing it now…
Bad memories 2
Katsuki: Deku, check out birdbrain over there…
Izuku: Yeah, he's the one with the sentient shadow quirk, but… Dark Shadow's voice is high pitched. A major contrast to Sparky's evil demon voice…
Katsuki: While we're talking about our classmates, have you noticed the half and half kid with the notebook-?
Izuku: Yeah… I've… kind of been ignoring that.
Author's note: Blackwhip is so cool! You know what else is cool? Giving Izuku blackwhip so he has moments of clumsiness, you know, to make up for the fact that he has Full Cowl handled pretty well early in the story. I know this is supposed to be a (sort of) slice of life, but I still can't make him overpowered or anything like that... even though he kind of is going to be a little later on, you know, to show that this is a slice of life. Not confusing at all, right?
