Her heart stopped. It truly stopped, she was certain of it. At the edges of the area under control of the Mutamycete, there were cars.

"No..." Mother Miranda trembled, staring straight ahead where she had been working on things in her laboratory. Had it really come this far already!?

She rushed from the room, heading for her phone.

"Yes, Mother Miranda?" Karl greeted her when she called him.

"They're here. Prepare." She said no more, hanging up and calling Salvatore. She gave him the same statement. Both of them could take care of themselves, especially when they were warned.

Only when she reached Donna did she say anything more. "Get to the castle, stay with her." Partially it was protectiveness towards Alcina, but it certainly was also towards Donna. They could protect one another and she only needed to worry about protecting one place, rather than two.

"At once." Donna assured her, hanging up, no doubt rushing from her home towards the Dimitrescu-castle.

"God..." Now came the worst part; warning Alcina. She desperately wanted to go there in person, to protect Alcina right there... but it would simply be far better to keep them from even reaching her in the first place.

"Mother Miranda?" There was something fragile in her daughter's voice she really did not want to hear right now.

"Alcina..." Her own throat was tight, pressed close in fear. "They are coming."

Her heart broke at the sound coming from the other side of the line. "Already?" God, her eldest was whimpering! She was destroying them all for reducing her to this state!

"Yes." Her free hand gouged tracks in her wooden table. "I have send Donna to you. Barricade yourself with her. We will make sure they won't reach the castle." She would personally make sure they would not reach the castle and if she needed to drain her powers dry five times over to do so, then so be it. "Perhaps send your daughters away. Don't let them find you and them in one place. It will buy us time to deal with them if they need to search longer."

Yes, Alcina adored them, but she was not going to leave the Nymphs with her if they could act as bait to split up their attackers. Smaller groups would be easier to deal with and anything not going after her daughter would be just fine with her.

"Mother..." The voice that answered her sounded infinitively small and she wanted nothing more than to rush over and comfort her child, but she had other concerns right now. She had failed to keep Eva safe and had already failed Alcina once, she would not a second time!

"Alcina, I have no time to argue. I must go out and deal with them. Do as I say!"

"Yes, mother..." A soft whisper answered her.

She could apologize later, now she had invaders to deal with.

Below, it looked like a war. Looking down from his high-flying osprey, he was glad that he had splurged on forces for this. Clearly, whoever lived here did not want to share their research with anyone.

Leaning back into his seat, he smiled lightly. To think that some people had suggested that he try the diplomatic route. What a waste of time that would have been! No, it was far easier to just go get the Subject back himself.

"Subject is confirmed at the castle." Someone spoke up elsewhere in the chopper. "No visual on the Nymphs."

That had certainly been interesting when the footage of the drone had arrived. Not only had the Subject survived, but so had what he assumed must have been her implanted Nymph and Nymph A had at some point arrived with them. So really, if someone stole his research, it was only fair he got to steal theirs.

"Send some drones to locate them. But priority is the Subject." What use were two Nymphs if those were all he got? The main laboratory was gone, including the scientists who had made them. He only had about two dozen Nymphs left - those that had been finished and had been removed for storage to a different location - so he needed a reusable incubator more than he needed two failed Nymphs.

He could grow proper ones. Useable ones. He needed to, because he needed to recoup his losses. First the loss of his laboratory and now this collection of Mercenaries and B.O.W.s needed to get his Subject back. He was practically broke!

Looking down again, it seemed things were progressing well. Between the battle and the summer storm overhead, the defenders of this backwater were not noticing the helicopter fly overhead.

He would be able to get to the castle unimpeded and probably be able to get out again before they even noticed something was amiss.

"Sir, we have visual on Nymph A."

He flipped out the screen beside him, pulling up the camera-feed. Indeed, that looked like Nymph A, heading along a path away from the castle towards the large lake-thing... or the battle, that was a bit unclear with this weather and the forest all over the place. "Keep following. Once Subject is secure, if there's still time, retrieve it." It would still have its' uses after all, even if those uses were not the intended ones. Who knew, perhaps at a later date, they'd find more viable incubators they could use Nymph A to capture, that had worked well last time. Once the few surviving scientists had mastered the art of creating Nymphs again, he'd be back on track. A bit behind schedule, but what were a few delays in this line of work. Spencer had been dead for years and he would be remembered for eternity regardless.

"Yes, Sir."
