Chapter 16

Everyone woke up to the sun shining through their windows the following day. After getting up and ready for the day, Kendall, James, Carlos, and Logan sat at the table with Mama Knight, Katie, and Mrs. Mitchel. Once they were done eating breakfast, Kendall, Logan, James, Carlos, and Mrs. Mitchel set off towards Roque Records recording studio. The trip wouldn't have been bad, if once again, Mrs. Mitchel wasn't talking the whole time, killing their moods with her snobby attitude and snide remarks. When they finally arrived, the guys were relieved when they met up with Gustavo and Kelly. Coming up to their boss and his assistant, they greeted them half-heartedly.

"Good dogs, you're here!" Gustavo explains with a sigh. "Today we will be sitting through - " Gustavo begins to explain when he notices a woman with the guys. " - Um, I'm sorry, but who is this with you and why is here?" Gustavo questions as he eyes the boys with annoyance.

Logan frowns. "This is my mother," Logan states as he sighs.

Kelly and Gustavo's eyes widen at Logan's explanation. Gustavo says, "Oh….Mrs. Mitchel, welcome…I didn't know you were in town. How can I help you?" Gustavo questions, immediately turning into a suck-up towards the parents; he wanted to be on the women's good side. After all, her son was in his band, so he had to show her what a good boss he was! "Welcome to Roque Records."

"Thank you, Gustavo; Was it?" Mrs. Mitchel questions as she raises an eyebrow looking at the man, hoping she got his name right. Once the man nods, she sighs. "Good, and I'm here to talk to you in private, please. If that is possible?" Mrs. Mitchel finishes with a serious look.

Everyone looks nervous as Gustavo nods. "Of course, no worries. Um, Kelly - " Gustavo states as he turns and looks at his assistant. Why don't you take the boys to the recording booth? Were you working on that new song…"

Kelly nods, "I can do that." Kelly states with a smile. "Come on, guys, follow me!"

Kelly takes Kendall, Logan, James, and Carlos to the recording booth; once inside, Kelly hands the four a small pack of papers that contain their new song. The guys look it over, and Kelly helps them work on it. Meanwhile, Gustavo and Mrs. Mitchel step into his office. Gustavo sits at his desk while Mrs. Mitchel sits in the chair in front of it.

"What would you like to talk to me about Mrs. Mitchel?" Gustavo wonders as he taps his fingers on his desk while he stares at the women before him.

"I'm not happy about things, Gustavo." Mrs. Mitchel begins as she eyes the producer as well. She continues, "When I agreed to let my Hortense come to L.A with the Knights, I was promised he would be safe." The woman finishes with a scold. "Now I hear one of his so-called friends is involved with drugs and that my boy was around it? I won't have it. What do you plan on doing about this situation!?" Mrs. Mitchel frowns as she tries to keep tears back; she doesn't want her boy in danger, and being around someone on drugs, is terrible in her book.

Knitting his eyebrows together at the usage of Logan's real name, Gustavo sighs. "I understand your concern Mrs. Mitchel, and I promise we are doing all we can to fix it. I have a full-proof plan! I've gotten another body to be watching them anytime they are not at the studio or the Palmwood's. Two, I will have the boys show me what is in their bags and pockets at least once or twice a week just to be on the safe side. Three, we conduct a drug test at least once every two weeks for all four boys, and finally, we are getting a therapist for Kendall to talk to. Griffin, our CEO of this company, is making this an order." Gustavo finishes with a look.

The woman before him nods, and a smile of satisfaction shows on her face, "Alright, I like that plan." Mrs. Mitchel states, she then changes position in her chair. "Good, I just want to make my son is safe because not I will pull him" out of the band in an instant if I need to." Mrs. Mitchel finishes as she smirks slightly at the minor threat she made. But she sighs. "Thank you for talking to me, Gustavo." She states with a sigh.

The producer sighs but nods. "Your welcome. Now, would you like to come to watch your son work?" Gustavo questions with a raised eyebrow.

Usually, Gustavo wouldn't let just anyone watch them. But, this was one of the boy's mother, and she was already on his case about her son's safety. The least he could do was an offer, and she had agreed. Together the two set off towards the sound booth; Gustavo had given her a minor tour of the studio on their way. Entering the booth, he starts working with Kendall, Logan, James, and Carlos, who start signing their new song. Mrs. Mitchel watches and smiles as she sees her son sign his parts. They run the song over a few times working on different sections, and all is well until Kendall starts feeling his cell phone ring. He frowns as the ringtone comes blaring out (he usually puts it on silence for work but forgot to this time), and everyone stops what they are doing to eye him. Gustavo looks annoyed and Kendall pulls his phone out to shut it off, but the boy stops in mid-motion when he sees a number calling Kendall knew was vital for him to answer. He comes out of the sound booth in a rush.

"What you doing!? Your working!" Gustavo states in annoyance as he glares at Kendall.

"I have to take this real quick," Kendall explains as he rushes out of the recording studio before anyone can protest; when he is alone, he answers his phone. "Hello, this is Kendall."

"Hello is this Kendall, this is Officer Peter calling. " Officer Peter explains; he had given the boy his number to keep in touch about the case of Old Man Jones before they had left. " - I'm calling to let you know that Old Man Jones is alive, and he's going to trial for his actions on drug usage and dealing. The jury wants you to be present, for you are one of his victims. Is there any way you could be comfortable with that?" Officer Peter questioned as he raised an eyebrow; he waited for the boy to reply.

"Yes, this is Kendall, and I see; thank you for calling and letting me know. I can do that, but only if I can have one of the bodyguards from my workplace with me. Would that be okay?" Kendall questioned with hope; after the incident, he didn't want to face Old Man Jones alone, who knew how the older man would act towards Kendall if he saw him again. He wasn't risking his safety again.

Officer Peter sighs, and he says. "I can talk to the jury, but I am sure it could be arranged."

"Alright, thank you for calling and letting me know. When will the trial be?" Kendall questions with a raised eyebrow as he paced back and forth in the studio's lobby.

"It'll be this Friday at the L.A courthouse. The time will be two pm." Officer Peter explains as he finishes with a frown.

"Okay, I will be there; thank you again, have a good day," Kendall states as he frowns.

"You too, kid, you too."

They hung up, and Kendall was shaking. He asked to talk to Gustavo privately. Gustavo put Kelly in charge of Logan, James, and Carlos while the two stepped out into the lobby. Kendall explained everything to Gustavo, who stared back at him with a scold.

"This isn't helping our case with Logan's mother, but I can be there for you on Friday at the trial," Gustavo explains as he sighs and rubs his forehead. "I'll bring Fright Train and deal with the press for you; that's why I'm coming. Once word gets out about this, the media will be flocking that courthouse trying to get to you. It's Hollywood, and Hollywood is all about getting dirt on celebrities like you boys." Gustavo explains with a frown. "Now, let's get back to work; well, I have to explain this to Mrs. Mitchel and the others."

Kendall nods and silently thanks Gustavo as they head back. Gustavo Roque may come across as an intimidating man, but deep down, if anyone got to know him, they could tell he secretly cared about the boys of Big Time Rush, whether he admitted it or not. The blonde-haired-green-eyed boy just worried how Logan's mother would take this information, as well as his friends. But what bothered him the most was the trial coming up. Kendall was hoping that things would be over soon, and he truly wished this was only one big-time nightmare. Unfortunately for him, this was reality, and he was going to have to deal with it one day at a time…
