"Damn it! Kaiser, tag in!" Kane instructed quickly.
It was his third charity banquet that month and little to no trace of the leader of Gemini. Granted, Kane was the only person not on Zodiac's payroll to have seen the head's face. More of the Hercules serum had been circulating among radical hate groups. So much so that the IPS had been paid off to find and eliminate the source of the drug supplies. While it was easy to figure out who it was since Kaiser had managed to capture the biggest supplier months prior, it had not been so easy to locate Gemini's leader: Julian Mars. Mr. Mars was a rich philanthropist who funded the projects of other people as long as it benefited remnant, or rather, that was his public persona. With only small rumors of his appearance at a charity banquet to go on, Mr. Ross had been adamant on sending Martin Kane to these functions. Kaiser was just there to provide assistance and to make Kane's cover believable. Julian Mars did show up at one point, Kane had managed to corner Mr. Mars in the restroom where he had beaten the leader senseless for answers.
Unfortunately, Mr. Mars had injected himself with Hercules to overpower the assassin. Kaiser found Kane in the restroom struggling to avoid Mars' attacks, the 15 year old boy had left with nothing to offer other than the words "Don't get hit" to his companion. To ensure the safety of those in the banquet, Kaiser started a fire large enough to cause a panic. The huge fire that was barely put out by the sprinkler system had helpfully encouraged the people in attendance to evacuate the area. Kaiser was now locked in a fight with Gemini's leader who was now made more powerful due to the effect of Hercules.
Kaiser rushed towards Mars to catch him in a leg sweep. The timing was off, kaiser was not able to dodge another punch by Mars. His fist connected with Kaiser's temple, the sheer force of it was enough for Kaiser to crash to the floor.
Kaiser decided he could rest his eyes for a bit, let Kane take the reins for a bit. He'd already done his part to clear the dining hall. With a distinct lack of chatter, Kaiser could hear sirens of a fire truck among the ensuing chaos. Somebody had enough sense to call the fire department. He let himself drift off for a minute to the soothing sounds of the water trickling to the floor.
"Get back up!", a voice commanded. Kaiser could barely make out what was being said due to blunt force trauma, but he knew for a fact his one minute break was done. So was he once he got over the dull throbbing on the side of his face, it'd bruise, but worse would happen if he didn't gather his bearings.
A wooden object was roughly shoved into his hands. The boy wouldn't question where it came from, he could do without the context.
"falling asleep on the job?", Kane snickered. He strode up to Kaiser's side with a wooden club of his own, "That's fine, just get ready to play some baseball." With that Kane ran up to Mars delivering a brutal swing to his temple.
Despite the ferocity behind the swing, Mars only stumbled back.
Kaiser soon followed, thrusting the club into Mars' torso. The target didn't even move, his fist pulling back being the only reaction. Kaiser wouldn't be able to react in time. The boy steeled himself to prepare for another punch. Kaiser was immediately kicked in the side out of mar's trajectory.
"Geez what happened to don't get hit?" Kane inquired. He swung his makeshift club into the hulking figure. Mars stumbled back until his back hit the glass pane overlooking the Atlesian skyline. Kane stepped forward once more but was grabbed by Mars who looked beyond pissed by now. Mars swung the hit man around by the collar before throwing him. Kane landed on a table, it cracked under the sudden weight, the assassin lay there near a chair that was suspiciously missing two legs.
"Finish the job you asshole!" Kane shouted amongst his pained groans.
Kaiser took this as an opportunity to rush Mars once more, this time he'd be ready. Mars once more cocked his fist back, Kaiser sprinted at the man as fast as he could. The spy hurled his club at Mars who instinctively punched the club away, leaving him without time to attack the boy charging at him. Right before he could collide with the mass of muscle, Kaiser jumped off of one leg, bringing the other to Mar's torso in a drop kick
The glass shattered as Kaiser watched Julian Mars fall to his demise.
Kaiser had awoken in a cold sweat that morning, today was going to be one hell of a migraine. With shaky hands, Kaiser got out of bed to examine himself. He was still in his coat, his steel mask was somewhere across the room after it had been presumably thrown before getting into bed. Kaiser's hair was wavy and unkempt, as it normally was, but it was more disheveled than usual. His scroll read 7:55 am, he overslept. Kaiser tossed his scroll back down on his bed, after he was done in the shower he'd just go to breakfast and take his notes during class.
As soon as he reached the bathroom, the boy gunned for the toilet when he felt bile build up in his throat. Kaiser retched into the ceramic bowl that held last night's contents. Between heaving and actually vomiting, Kaiser caught a glimpse of a shadow on the wall above the toilet. The boy whipped his head around to see… nothing? Wow. He must really be going crazy, a hot shower should fix that. The boy let the water heat up for a while before stepping in.
Kaiser toweled himself off in front of his mirror, he took note of the splotches of red and blue bruising that appeared over his face and his torso. He'd have to take care of that soon, the bruises on his torso could easily be covered, the ones on his face though were another story entirely. Kaiser would cross that bridge when he got to it, the boy stumbled out the door once in uniform.
Everybody should be in the cafeteria for breakfast by now, it explained why there were only a few students out in the courtyards. Some of the younger looking students seemed to be huddled in groups whispering whenever he neared them, they were probably talking badly about him. The fourth year students seemed to be regarding him with disdain, as if Kaiser was stealing the attention of the starry-eyed freshman year by directing it to himself. Kaiser couldn't play oblivious to the attention because of the little demonstration he put up yesterday. The boy had to keep his head down due in part to the attention and his hangover.
The spy finally made it to the cafeteria where sustenance was served, god he felt tired. Kaiser carefully slinked through the crowds of students to evade some scrutiny, fortunately hiding in plain sight had yet to fail him. The boy managed to make it to the serving station without incident. Kaiser saw Jaune sitting with team CRDL, the blond boy averted his gaze as the spy passed by. There was a noticeable lack of their leader, it didn't matter to Kaiser though. The white-haired boy took his seat at the table, the rest of its inhabitants have yet to arrive it seemed. Kaiser took small bites of his toast trying to remember some parts of last night.
The Hercules serum was in circulation here in Vale, the only problem was where was it coming from. Obviously remains of Zodiac's narcotics division had been restarting the production line on Hercules. Kaiser needed to know where the designated location for deals was, from there he could find out from where the steroid was coming from. There had to be a group that was buying up the merchandise, Gemini didn't sell to individuals. Reports on the juiced up Hercules from last night have yet to come out, so Kaiser couldn't rely on the news to find the user's affiliation. Now all he needed to kno-
A hand landed onto his left shoulder.
Goddamn it!
Without even thinking, his hand flew to grasp the person's wrist and yanked it forward. The figure did indeed jerk forward, Kaiser was ready to slam the figure into the table until he recognized flaming red hair atop the figure's head. The boy finally came to his senses. He wasn't in danger… he was in Beacon academy right now. He loosened his grasp and pulled the figure up, it was a sheepish looking Pyrrha. Kaiser took quick stock of the room, some students were already whispering while one or two had their scrolls out. Kaiser removed his hands from the girl and started waving them around frantically.
"Oh god I'm so sorry Pyrrha I didn't mean to do that!" Pyrrha had fixed a worried stare at Kaiser.
"It's alright… admittedly I activated my aura so I'm not that hurt." Pyrrha seemed to be apprehensive with her next words. "How are you feeling."
"I'm not sure what I'm feeling right now Pyrrha,I feel like I want to fight everybody who looks at me funny but I also just want to stay in bed." Kaiser absentmindedly rolled a piece of egg around with his fork.
"I'm sorry about what happened yesterday." Pyrrha avoided staring at Kaiser.
"It wasn't your fault Pyrrha." Kaiser took a large gulp of orange juice. "I was practically asking for it when I started treating Cardin like he was stupid, perhaps I should've just started with beating the crap out of him." Kaiser chuckled darkly to himself.
"Still, I'm sorry that it happened to you." Pyrrha stared at her own plate of food, she displayed a slight frown. "I know what it feels like to be looked at for what you are rather than who you are. So if you'll allow me to, I'll also be there for you."
Kaiser didn't have time to dwell on her words as the rest of teams RWBY and JNPR(sans Jaune) had sat down. Both teams seemed to be awkwardly trying to pretend that everything was normal despite the truthful rumors surrounding their white haired friend. Yang had no such problem however.
"Sleep well I-Spy?" Yang had seemed to have created a little nickname for the boy. Shocked silence overtook the table as Yang smiled brightly to herself.
"Yaaang, don't be mean!" Ruby had interjected quickly. The younger of the sisters was grasping the other's arm in a form of pleading.
"I-Spy? I think James Blond would suit me a lot better." Kaiser laughed softly, there were some sighs of relief let out around the table.
"You wish, you're not even half as smooth as he is. Have you ever even seen a James Blond movie, you probably couldn't do half the things he does?" Yang smirked at the boy.
"Don't even compare me to that martini sipping pretty boy." Kaiser was half serious and half joking at this point, Kane had already tried to have this conversation with him before. "Do you know how much of shit spy you have to be that every villain knows who James Blond is? Also, trust me, I'm smoother than silk." Kaiser winked at Yang, to which she burst out in a fit of giggles.
"You weren't smooth at all last night."
"Speaking of last night" Weiss had seen fit to interject, she was blatantly staring at the pair bantering as if nothing happened. "Where were you two last night? Yang, you got back really late."
"Sorry about that Weiss, I-Spy here was busy showing me a wild time last night." Kaiser could almost feel the smirk on her face as he focused on his breakfast, he tried his best not to cringe.
"You are deplorable Xiao Long." Weiss humphed.
Ruby lazily waved a cookie in the air. "You might as well give up on asking Weiss, Yang says stuff like that when she doesn't feel like telling people stuff." Her cookie was snatched by the jaws of a hungry Nora, the younger girl's head slightly banged against the table.
The table had finally settled down after light laughter at Ruby's antics. Kaiser settled for the moment, only for a moment though. From what Kaiser heard before he freaked out, Cardin was keeping Jaune on a tight leash by using the spy's own secret as an example. By this logic, Cardin was probably holding a secret over JNPR's leader. Here he was thinking he was done with special intelligence work but now he was going to need to dig through Jaune's secrets to be able to approach this blackmail situation. Well, at least with Kaiser's secret out he really didn't have anything to lose. His scroll softly vibrated, It displayed an email from Ozpin to come to his office. Kaiser quickly read over the email and clicked his scroll off.
"Later guys, gotta head to the headmaster's office." Kaiser got some nods in response, Yang offered him a fist bump. He reached over the table to bump it, Kaiser left the cafeteria soon after.
Once out of the cafeteria building, he headed toward the tower which overlooked the whole of Beacon academy. Kaiser barely got to the beautiful grass area that surrounded the Tower before he heard someone clear their throat. He turned around to see the school disciplinarian: Glynda Goodwitch.
"Good morning professor Goodwitch." Kaiser made sure to be polite, she was an adult who hadn't sent the boy on suicide missions… yet.
The professor adjusted her glasses. "Good morning Kaiser. I trust you have received an email from the headmaster." She continued when Kaiser nodded in response. "Good, the headmaster sent me down here to retrieve you in the event that you start running." Kaiser raised his hand in protest but was quickly cut off by Goodwitch. "No, I will not elaborate on that. You should know what this is about." The stern professor turned her back to him as she had him follow her to the headmaster's office.
Now Kaiser was a firm believer in Murphy's law: anything that can go wrong, will go wrong. So something had definitely gone wrong if Ozpin was justified in expecting him to run, just as he was justified to handcuff Kaiser in their first meeting. He wouldn't know what was wrong until he went with Goodwitch, so he did. Both professor and student stepped into the elevator to Ozpin's, Kaiser was still awed by the tower they had entered.
Kaiser was informed that Ozpin's office had also housed the Cross Continental Transmit tower, a technological marvel gifted to the kingdoms by Atlas. The CCT Tower was full of computer terminals to contact people outside of their respective kingdom, it was all made possible with the four towers that surrounded the main building. Kaiser couldn't help but be amazed at the technological wonder he had stepped into. The soft ding of the elevator had alerted the two occupants, muffled shouting could be heard past the shut steel doors leading to the headmasters office.
"I want him expelled and arrested !" The voice of an aging man boomed throughout the clock tower. From the back, it was noted that the man had dull-orange hair that was nearing a grayish color. The Senior citizen wore a tight black three piece suit with a red dress shirt poking out through the collars, he was obviously some sort of aristocrat. It only all clicked into place when he saw Cardin Winchester slouching in the chair next to the man, Cardin's dad decided to bail him out.
"Ah, Kaiser, please take a seat." Ozpin gestured to a chair next to Cardin.
Before Kaiser could sit down, the councilman of Vale had walked up to the boy and jabbed his finger in the boy's chest. "Listen boy, you just assaulted one of Vale's most promising sons!" The man would've gone further with his threats had it not been for Glynda glaring at him, he returned to his spot. Kaiser arrived at his seat once everyone had settled.
"Kaiser, this is Mallard Winchester, I'm sure you need no introduction but he holds a position on the council of Vale."
Kaiser wasn't really in the mood to interact with anybody in power today, but he still had manners drilled into him. The boy held out his hand to shake the man's hand, only to have it slapped away.
"Don't touch me orphan!"
Kaiser could tell where Cardin got that outstanding attitude from, the spy retracted his arm immediately. He felt like another assault case wouldn't hurt, he really shouldn't though.
"I could have you arrested, boy, one lawsuit from me and you can kiss your life away." Mallard was leaning over him in an attempt to intimidate the boy, it was pathetic compared to the hours long torture sessions Kaiser had gone through in the past. Hell, professor Port's lectures were many times worse than this. "You have nobody in your corner, you'll be lucky if jail time is all you get!" Unfortunately, Mallard had a point, Kaiser didn't really have a safety net in case of legal trouble. Guess he didn't think he'd be breaking the law so soon.
"I wouldn't say nobody." Ozpin calmly said, his mug thunked on his desk after being roughly put down.
Mallard sent a look of shock at the headmaster, wondering about the implications. Mallard didn't have to wonder as Ozpin was willing to elaborate.
"I have proof that you had conspired in the abuse of the young man you see before you." Ozpin sat back calmly, Mallard looked panicked. "You knew of the operation as it was happening, your inaction had more negative impacts than the experiences that were brought upon a child."
Mallard only cackled in the headmaster's face, another similarity drawn between father and son. "You've got to be shitting me Ozpin, that's your defense? I knew about the operation? That won't hold up in court!" Mallard slammed his fist down on the steel frame of Ozpin's desk. "I'd be careful about who you go to reporting child endangerment to! You're literally training teenagers to fight the forces of grimm!"
Ozpin only adjusted his glasses in the face of Mallard's mad cackling. "I have multiple records of you giving a sizable donation to fund the project that went into training Kaiser. So if you don't want me to present those records to the court of remnant I suggest you drop this nonsense of having my student expelled or arrested." Mallard had abruptly stopped in his incessant cackling.
"If you do that, the IPS will be dismantled and we won't be able launch special operations anymore!" Mallard had looked incredulously at the headmaster. "Are you really willing to sacrifice that?"
"While I agree that the IPS is a necessary evil, I will not hesitate to expose both yours and their shady dealings."
Mallard had paled, his shoulders had slumped downwards. He seemingly regained his confidence in a couple of seconds. "Fine! I won't have the boy arrested. But know this Ozpin, I'll make sure that hell rains upon you. I need to know that his actions don't go unpunished!" Mallard pointed his index finger at the boy who looked between the headmaster and councilman.
"I can issue six months of rehabilitative detention." Ozpin looked resolute with his offer.
"That's not enough! I want the boy off the Vytal tournament roster!" Mallard shouted
"You're being unreasonable, I'm sure there's another way to solve this matter Mallard."
"No! If I don't get at least that, I'll fight tooth and nail to have the council cut off funding for the school!" The final nail in the coffin had been set.
Ozpin looked about as frustrated as you would imagine someone like Ozpin to be. He thought it over for a long minute, time had seemed to slow for everybody in the room.
Please… No…
"Very well. In exchange, I will issue Cardin Winchester six months of rehabilitative detention." Ozpin said.
Mallard seemed pleased at the new deal, a devious smirk appeared over his less than stellar face. "I'm glad you're seeing it my way Ozpin."
For the first time since he joined the meeting, Cardin spoke up. "But dad! I can't get detention." The younger Winchester's face was covered in splotchy bruises, his left arm was wrapped in a splint to support his broken wrist.
Mallard only looked back coldly to his son, "You should've thought of that when you decided to lose to a weakling."
"Well, I think this meeting should come to a close." Ozpin typed on his computer. "Both of you should be getting to class by now. I sent Dr. Oobleck an email concerning your absences. Mallard and I will discuss the terms of your punishment further, off you go then."
Both boys made their way past Goodwitch towards the elevator, neither were too happy with their punishments. Cardin vented his frustration once the elevator had descended down two floors away from the headmaster's office, he punched the steel door.
"He shouldn't have gotten involved!" Cardin yelled, he seemingly forgot that he wasn't alone in the elevator.
Kaiser snorted, how dumb could this fool be? "He was involved the moment you used his connections." Cardin, however, was not as amused as Kaiser seemed to be.
"Shut it orphan! I don't remember asking you to speak." Cardin screeched, he left another dent in the wall.
Kaiser tightened his fist, he was already on a short fuse. In the span of one morning, his spot at the Vytal festival was stripped from him. His only chance to prove himself to everybody was gone, but his problem ran deeper than that. Kaiser was hoping to get far enough into the tournament to garner heavy amounts of fame that he couldn't be ignored. The IPS had a tendency to scrub any photos or videos of him off the face of remnant, leaving no proof of Kaiser's existence on any sort of platform. Kaiser doubted that the IPS was done with him, sooner or later they were going to coerce him into doing their dirty work. The boy did his research on the Vytal tournament, it was the biggest televised sports event in history. If Kaiser could make a large enough upset(making it to the finals), his face would be all over the news. The boy doubted that the IPS could manage to somehow cancel the live coverage of the Vytal festival to prevent Kaiser's face being known. This would make using Kaiser in an undercover field operation a moot point if somebody could recognize him, and the IPS would never take that unnecessary risk. Kaiser would be officially useless to the IPS, but now, that chance was gone. The IPS would be free to pull him out of Beacon and use him as they please, and it all started with the orange haired asshole next to him.
"You know Cardin." The councilman's son looked at Kaiser, he was met with an expression which seemed detached yet laser focused. "You're named after a bird, does that mean your semblance is flight?"
"What are you gettin-" Cardin was calmly cut off by the smaller boy.
"We're still a long way up. We can test that semblance of yours if you keep at it."
Cardin finally piped down, just enough for Kaiser to think. Kaiser once again heard another comment from under Cardin's breath along the lines of 'fucking psycho'. The spy would've probably done something that was able to land him in detention if it weren't for his scroll chime at a new message. Kaiser quickly fished it out and narrowed his eyes at the unknown number, had the IPS finally gotten around to calling him in? Kaiser opened the messaging app on his scroll.
It was worse than he expected.
Kaiser burst through some shrubbery, leaves crunched under his pounding feet. After some careful planning, Kane and Kaiser had managed to bust out of their cell. Turns out the dungeon they were being held captive in was underground, the ladder to the hatch was what really tipped them off. The pair decided it would be best to split up and regroup somewhere else as that way if either of them made it out of the woods they could lead the retrieval team back to the underground base. Once Kaiser had felt he had reached a good enough place, he decided to catch his breath for a minute.
"Hey."
Kaiser turned in shock, a few feet away sitting on a log was a man who wore tactical uniform. He wore sunglasses despite the sun starting to set, giving the woods a soft orange hue. The man in question was the doctor's right hand: Terr. Terr was ex-special forces with the Atlesian military, a formidable foe in combat. The soldier was most likely here to collect the boy who escaped.
"You know." Terr stepped on some browning leaves on the forest ground. "I could probably get the good doctor to cut you a deal. Hell, he'd probably even be so gracious as to induct you and Cain into our Scorpio faction. All you have to do is come with me, and I'll put in a good word for you."
So that's what they were going for, they thought they could lure Kaiser in with a false sense of security. Terr even went as far as using Martin's old alias as a form of acceptance. Terr must know that neither the doctor or the Scorpio faction were going to forgive Kane for defecting. Kaiser wasn't going to take a deal to endanger his companion's life. Regardless of whether Terr was speaking the truth or not, Kaiser would forever and always be loyal to Albert Ross and the IPS.
"I refuse!" Kaiser picked up a rock and chucked it at the soldier, it was quickly swatted away.
"Don't even try, the doctor already took all your toys away kid." Terr teased with a sense of mirth in his voice.
Kaiser was stripped of all weaponry that was hidden on his person, they'd even taken away a arm mounted grappling hook that he was just beginning to get the hang of. None of that meant anything though as long as the boy could raise his fist. In a life or death situation, the best things to have were a will to live and the means to do so.
"Well. I tried to reason with you." Terr stood up from the log, he was barely a head taller than the boy. The fight started as soon as he heard the gentle tweeting of a bird.
Terr dashed at Kaiser at full speed, jumping at the last second to hit the boy with a double roundhouse kick. Kaiser blocked both kicks but stumbled after the second, he ducked right as Terr almost hit him with a reverse roundhouse kick. Once that failed, Terr had run up a tree to jump off the log to land a kick at Kaiser's head. Kaiser managed to block the kick effectively interrupting Terr's flow of combat, Kaiser pushed onwards with his own attack.
Kaiser quickly brought his leg up in an axe kick, Terr slid to the side to avoid the kick. Kaiser followed up with an ankle kick and then a tornado kick, Terr avoided those too. Kaiser forced Terr into jumping as he swept Terr's legs.
Terr blocked a jumping front kick from Kaiser, the gun for hire struck the spy's fist away as it closed in for a punch. Terr almost got a good punch in on the boy if it weren't for him parrying it away. Terr struck with a wide haymaker, big mistake.
Kaiser blocked the incoming haymaker and trapped Terr's arm at the shoulder, and the boy proceeded to knee his opponent in the stomach. Terr was dragged and spun around until Kaiser flipped him over whilst throwing him a few feet in front of him. Terr received a swift punch to the solar plexus while on the ground, Kaiser's arm was caught and Terr planted a leg on the boy's stomach.
"Go to hell!" Terr used his foot to launch the boy back-first into a tree, he heard a scream of pain come from the boy. Terr charged at the boy who was still getting up and using the tree as support. Terr aimed a front kick at Kaiser, but the boy leaned back so all Terr hit was the tree trunk.
Kaiser hit the soldier in the stomach with a roundhouse kick. The boy closed in Terr just as the soldier unleashed more attacks. Kaiser parried three swings before driving his elbow into Terr's chin. Kaiser took advantage of Terr's momentary shock to wrap his arm around the back of the boy's neck, the spy lifted Terr by both the arm and leg. Now he held the man over his head, Kaiser slammed the man onto the downed log he first encountered Terr at.
"You won't be getting very far." Terr grunted out, his hand was creeping dangerously close to his communicator. He didn't get the chance though as Kaiser coldly stomped his face in.

'Fucking kill yourself'
'You're nothing compared to her'
'I'll fucking gut you'
I'd like to see you try! Kaiser was receiving more and more hateful messages. Some time after being called in by Ozpin, photos of Kaiser's reaction to Pyrrha touching him surfaced on the internet. Now, many of the Invincible girl's more "devoted" fans were coming to her defense in the form of sending death threats and demeaning comments to his scroll. It confused him greatly to how these people even got his scroll number. He'd been avoiding Pyrrha ever since as a way to remedy the situation much to her dismay, it had been a week since he started doing so.
Kaiser was just looking forward to get through the forever falls field trip so he could just sleep the rest of the day.
"Professor Peach has asked all of you to collect samples from the trees deep inside this forest, and I'm here to make sure none of you die while doing so." Goodwitch instructed the teams RWBY, JNPR, and CRDL.
Kaiser was busy looking at the pretty leaves that surrounded forever falls, he liked the deep red color of the shrubbery.
"Each of you is to gather one jars worth of red sap, however this forest is full of the creatures of Grimm, So be sure to stay by your teammates."
Kaiser immediately wandered off in a direction that no other team seemed to be going. He wanted to avoid Pyrrha so nobody posted anything damaging to her or himself on the internet. He avoided Jaune and team CRDL because Kaiser couldn't trust himself not to assault Cardin for what he did. He avoided RWBY because they were most likely partnering with NPR. Kaiser kept marching off in one direction until he figured he'd gone deep enough into the woods.
Kaiser approached a rather large tree with an even wider trunk, the boy unscrewed the jar's cap and placed the empty container in front of the trunk. With a quick aura infused strike, the boy punched a perfect hole into the tree. He watched as red sap gushed out of the trunk into his jar, something felt off as soon as he screwed the lid on shut.
It started with an almost unnoticeable thump reverberating throughout the forest floor. Slight rustling through the leaves, there was even a shift in the air. Kaiser was very perceptive to all of this, it put the boy on high alert. The sudden rush of wind blowing against a mysterious assailant that lunged at the boy was duly noted, Kaiser ducked under the sudden attack from his assailant.
When he stood back up, the tree he was extracting sap from was completely gone. The top half of the mighty tree was left broken and splintered, a couple dozen feet away from Kaiser was an alpha beowolf. Such terrible luck that he left his wired rods back in his dorm, and with his sword and revolver out of commission the boy was left practically defenseless. The best he could do for now was use counter strikes.
The alpha lunged at the boy once, Kaiser narrowly dodged it and delivered an aura fueled punch to it's stomach. The Grimm wolf was sent skittering into a tree, auburn leaves scattered around. Jumping from branch to branch, Kaiser leaped in the air above the Beowolf. An aura covered fist crashed into the wolf's bone plating.
Chipped bone fragments fell off the alpha as it just roared, with a shake of it's head it was ready to continue. Kaiser only channeled aura through his body, he'd need it for the manhandling he was likely to receive. It never happened though, as the alpha was sprayed with a great deal of bullets. The decaying carcass of the alpha beowolf faded away, Kaiser tightened his stance expecting someone to come out and attack him. Luckily, that wasn't the case as Pyrrha came out of the shrubbery with her Miló in rifle form.
"Are you alright?" Pyrrha shifted her Miló back into it's xiphos form.
Kaiser visibly shrunk in on himself, he carried his half-empty jar to another tree. He hung his head and confirmed he was alright, he was about to make a hole in the next tree until a bullet shattered a hole in the trunk. Sap came pouring out just as Kaiser turned around, Pyrrha only looked back at him with a sheepish smile.
"I find that it's faster to shoot the tree to get the sap." Kaiser didn't even notice that she shifted Miló into rifle form.
Kaiser grunted in agreement, he set the jar down and waited for it to fill up his jar.
"Did I do something wrong?" Pyrrha walked closer to the spy.
"No." Kaiser softly muttered, he screwed the cap on his jar shut. He marched his way back towards, Pyrrha followed closely behind.
"If you don't mind me asking, why are you avoiding me?"
"Didn't you see the photos?" Leaves crunched under Kaiser's steps. "I'm sure you don't appreciate what the tabloids are saying about you."
"Yeah." She sighed.
"I'd rather not make anymore trouble for us than I already have. You gotta keep up your brand as The Invincible Girl, no?" Kaiser let out a remorseful chuckle, he stalked off to where the meeting place for the students who finished the task were supposed to meet up. Pyrrha was having none of that.
In that instance, she launched Miló in spear form at a tree. Kaiser looked back to see a disheveled glassy-eyed girl, tiredness was present in her eyes. "I-I don't want to lose another friend! Especially not because of my career!" Pyrrha looked close to tears but quickly wiped them away. "First Jaune, then you, why is this happening?!"
Kaiser looked back in shock, clearly things had been weighing heavily on Pyrrha's mind. The poor girl must've been torturing herself as to why one by one, her friends had been avoiding her. Kaiser hated that his friend was feeling this way, he pulled the girl into a gentle embrace. It was a bit awkward considering she was taller than him.
"Your friends aren't leaving you, we're just going through some stuff right now." Kaiser wasn't really all that comfortable with close contact with people, but he could try to put that aside for those he cared for. "Be patient, I'm sure Jaune will come around." Kaiser let go of Pyrrha, her tears now dried.
"If you're sure." Pyrrha began walking towards a different direction. "Would you like to join us?" She called out behind her.
Kaiser nodded in silent agreement and began walking.
It wasn't long until they reached the rest of Pyrrha's team. I took even less time for Nora to notice their arrival.
"Hey Pyrrha! What took ya so long?" Nora was busy trying to snatch a jar of red sap from Ren's hands, the lotus fighter was keeping it away with minimal effort.
"Sorry" Pyrrha bashfully smiled, she easily hid any of her past frustration from the rest of the group. Years of having to do interviews on TV might have prepared Pyrrha for moments like these, Kaiser was impressed with the way she seemingly switched her mood. "I just got caught up looking for Kaiser." She received a nod from both Nora and Ren.
The teammates of JNPR were busy collecting sap for the field trip but had minor success as Nora kept consuming the contents of the jar as they went. Kaiser watched with amusement as Pyrrha had to fill her jar, only to find another empty jar lay beside her feet. Team RWBY strolled up to the clearing check up on their sister team.
"Hi Pyrrha!" Ruby was just about done filling her jar."
"Hello." Pyrrha waved at the younger girl.
Kaiser didn't really think much of Ruby Rose, If he ever actually thought deeply about any of his classmates. She was nice enough, they greeted each other in passing when they saw each other in the hallways. What really made her intriguing was her two year early acceptance, thrusting a child into danger earlier than expected was something that hit home to Kaiser. Kaiser imagined that Ruby had considered the dangers of joining Beacon early, it helped that she was a prodigy in combat. Kaiser remembered Yang mentioning that her sister was an absolute genius when it came to machinery and weapons, the boy hoped to ask her for assistance in making his new weapon when he had the materials ready.
Kaiser watched as team RWBY interacted with each other, it seemed nice to be able to trust each other. Between Blake and Weiss helping each other fill on sap and Ruby helping to keep Nora away from the Pyrrha's jar, Kaiser couldn't help but smile inwardly at the camaraderie.
Ruby, Weiss, and Blake… where's-
Kaiser darted forward a few feet after a hand slapped down onto his back, the boy assumed combat stance. He was faced with the devious grinning face of Yang Xiao Long, she came closer just to ruffle his hair. Kaiser's relationship with Yang was a lot more cut and dried. She helped the boy when he was at a low point, and for that he was extremely grateful. Kaiser hoped there'd be a point later on where he could repay her for her kindness and encouraging words.
"Relax I-Spy, I wasn't planning to hurt you." Yang chided, she held an empty glass jar of her own.
It wasn't much, but it was a start to clear his debt. "Here", Kaiser struck one of the trees and made sure that sap came gushing out. "let me help you with that." Kaiser gestured to the trunk as Yang unscrewed her jar, it was quickly filled to the brim with the sweet substance.
"Can't believe you didn't even hear me come up behind you." Yang smirked at the spy. "I thought with all that training, they would've taught you how to mind your surroundings."
Kaiser shot back immediately, "I was distracted! I would've sensed where you were because you're just about as subtle as an-" Kaiser never got to finish his defense.
"Ursa! Ursa!" Russel, along with Dove and Sky had run into the clearing that both teams were occupying. Russel crashed into Yang, who in turn had held up the mohawked boy demanding where the Ursa was. Russel had explained it was back the way he came, Pyrrha Ruby, and Weiss had decided to go find the two leaders in trouble. The rest of them were ordered to go find Goodwitch and fill her in on the situation, Kaiser followed Yang and the rest of the group to make sure they weren't ambushed by grimm.
During the forever fall field trip, Cardin and Jaune had gotten in a bit of a scuffle. During the commotion an Ursa had made its way into their argument, Cardin was very quickly overpowered. It was only Jaune intervening that had prevented the grimm from tearing into the privileged rich kid. To everyone's surprise, Jaune ended up beheading the dark beast. After that, Cardin decided to stop messing with people, but the damage to one person was already done.
Kaiser laid on his bed, the boy was still lamenting the loss of his place on the Vytal tournament's roster. He feared that at any point he could be pulled out and forced into doing espionage work for Albert Ross, the man truly used all his resources until they broke. Kaiser's scroll beeped for an alert, it was just a grade that was turned in for the forever falls trip. Kaiser ended up chucking his jar at a jagged rock so the sap would flow out from the broken glass, the sap ended up luring away a pack of beowolves that appeared before them. Unfortunately, Goodwitch was unsure about giving Kaiser a grade even though he came back empty-handed.
The rest of the group had told the stern teacher that Kaiser did it to save the group from unnecessary injury, Goodwitch said she would think about it. Kaiser ended up barely passing the assignment.
Kaiser checked for any more notifications on his scroll, there were none. The threats over Pyrrha had subsequently stopped, most of the people who had sent him hateful messages had just ended up blocking him. Kaiser searched the dustnet for articles on the incident from a week ago, he searched with every key-word relating to Pyrrha. Nothing came up, all the news outlets had been wiped regarding what happened. The IPS must have scrubbed the story off the face of the dustnet, Kaiser laid back down as a migraine started. He wasn't allowed to rest much as there was a knock at his door. The spy trudged all the way to his door, It was Jaune.
The blond boy chuckled awkwardly. "Heyy… Kaiser." He rubbed the back of his neck.
Kaiser was tired, he just wanted to take a nap. "Yes?"
"May I come in?" Jaune was twiddling his thumbs while waiting for an answer from the usually quiet boy.
The white oak door only creaked open to reveal a dark room, blackout curtains were placed around the window to remove natural lighting from Kaiser's dorm room.
Kaiser broke the silence, "What brings you here?"
Jaune let out a deep breath, he gathered his thoughts for a moment. "I want to apologize."
"For what?"
"For Cardin, It was my fault that he told everybody your secret." Jaune leaned against the wall. "I guess it's only fair that I tell you my secret."
Kaiser only gave the boy a questioning look.
"I faked my way into Beacon." A deafening silence had surrounded the two. "I turned in some fake transcripts to Ozpin, I haven't really been trained by anyone."
A soft snort came from Kaiser, this shocked Jaune who was fully expecting to be shunned and reported. "At least your transcript is complete, mine just has my name." Kaiser laughed softly to himself. "So you faked your way into Beacon, you're already here you might as well catch up." Kaiser shrugged, the boy let out a yawn.
"Yeah, that's another reason why I'm here. I talked to Pyrrha and she agreed to train me in weapons combat, she suggested I ask you if you'd be willing to train me in unarmed combat." Jaune looked fidgety as he neared the open doorway of Kaiser's dorm. "I thought it was pretty cool how you handled Cardin and his goons." Jaune was rubbing the back of his neck again, most likely a nervous tick. "Would you be willing to teach me to fight like that?"
Kaiser thought about it for a moment, it wasn't much of a bother. He could teach Jaune how to survive in fights without weapons the same way that was taught to him. Kaiser nodded at the boy, Jaune visibly brightened as he stood in the doorway.
Kaiser delivered a swift front kick, the blond boy crashed into the wall across from Kaiser's dorm. Yeah, Kaiser was going to train him the same way Kane trained him.
"Training starts now."
