AN: Danny doesn't want to take exams.

(more recent, unfinished drabble that I may do more with later, but for now I have kinda run out of ideas. Ends rather abruptly)

"Sideneeeeeeey," Danny whined. He stumbled down the main hall of Casper High, passing classes full of other students. They barely paid him any mind, as he was currently in Phantom form. It wasn't all-too uncommon for Phantom to be seen wandering down the halls, mostly because Danny seemed to forget what form he was in half the time. Not that the spectators knew that, of course. Or maybe they did? Honestly, he'd stopped really trying to hide it a long time ago.

Senior year did a number on his ability to give a shit about a lot of things. Like whether his socks matched or not. That had almost made him late a dozen times, especially since some small blobs had made his closet their home and took his socks as blankets. If anyone decided to look at his feet that was their problem.

"Sidneyy!" He shouted again, as he'd been doing for the past five minutes. But the monochrome ghost hadn't yet shown his face. Coward.

`.-.`

"WHAT do you WANT?!" An annoyed Sidney Poindexter emerged from an empty classroom. He'd been contentedly drawing a mustache on Dash's face in all the yearbooks. (Hopefully, no one checked that page before they were handed out) Danny zoomed over to him, clapping a hand on Sidney's slightly incorporeal shoulder. The jolt startled Syndey, and his glare darkened.

"I need you to overshadow me again, like last time." Danny said, tone dark. Like, end of the world dark. Needless to say, that was the last thing Sidney had been expecting when the halfa had called for him. His anger turned to shock.

"Why in the world would you want that?" Sidney questioned. He cringed at the memory of their first meeting. It wasn't one of his... brightest moments. But it'd been so long since he'd managed to manifest in the real world -due to lack of ectoplasm- that he hadn't exactly been in the best state of mind. Now that Amity was positively flooded with energy, he'd become much more stable.

"I desperately need sleep, and since the truce is in effect for the holidays I figured I'd just skip, but I forgot about Midterm Exaaaaaams-" Danny said, not lacking in dramatics as he threw a hand over his face and flung his head back. Even suspended in the air he looked like he'd fall over at any moment.

"You've been hanging around this school for decades, you must be good at school stuff!" Danny exclaimed with a hopeful glint in his eyes. He clasped his hands in front of him, begging for Sidney's help. When the other didn't reply immediately he even stuck out his bottom lip in a pout. It was almost cute. Almost.

"Most of my knowledge is pretty outdated. Also I don't think you getting a nap in my body would help your sleep problem." Sidney replied, even though he was buzzing at the idea of taking the halfa's exams for him. Sidney had always loved the rush of getting his tests back with a big A+ scrawled across the top. He hadn't been called a nerd for nothing, after all.

"I don't care, I can sleep more after school, I just really need this Dexty, pleaaaaase?" Danny practically whined. It was times like these when Sidney remembered the halfa was only 17, barely 3 years old as a ghost. But Sidney didn't remember being that immature when he was that age, human or ghost. Maybe it was a halfa thing?

Sidney sighed harshly -a mannerism he must've picked up from a Casper High student at some point- and relented.

"Fine-" He didn't get to finish as Phantom set off into a bunch of happy loop-de-loops, laughing his head off in relief.

"BUT!" Sidney exclaimed, causing the halfa to pause while still hovering upside-down in the air. That didn't stop him from chuckling quietly, muttering "heh, you said butt" under his breath.

"You owe me one, and I am not taking your finals for you too." Finished Sidney sternly. It didn't diminish the halfa's grin, and he did another flip in his excitement. That was certainly a lot of energy for somebody that was "soooo exghausted."

"I doubt you want to do this in the open, where do you want to go?" Sidney questioned. The only answer he got was a grin as Phantom grabbed his arm and phased them both through the floor and into a closet in the basement.

"This should be fine," Danny said as he locked the door. Neither acted for a moment, unsure how to go about it. Sidney spoke first.

"I believe you need to be human." He said, awkwardly. He shifted from foot to foot, despite the fact that he was floating. Sidney's core was buzzing with excitement. Both at the prospect of taking a test, but also because he'd get another chance to feel human for a while.

It'd been a shocking experience last time, when he'd thrown himself into Danny's body. There was just a heaviness to it that he hadn't expected. It was also different from the very few times he'd overshadowed normal humans. There was always a disconnect, a lag between his thoughts and the movement. But he'd almost felt like Danny's body was his own. His consciousness and the body just kinda clicked, working in harmony. He was nervous to do it again, concerned that he wouldn't want to give Danny's body back come the end of the school day. But he'd have to, no way would he keep it. That was just wrong, and Danny would probably be able to kick him out anyway if he tried.

Danny blinked owlishly like he'd forgotten where he was. He reverted back to human form in an instant, yawning mid-change. Sidney stopped for a moment to marvel at the transformation. The halfa caught his gaze and held his arms out wide, dopey grin on his face.

"Come at me bro," He said with no little amount of snark, and Sidney took that as his invitation. He slid into the next spectrum and took a step towards Danny. The halfa stared right at him, despite his invisibility. Sidney noticed as he neared that the halfa's eyes held a slight unnatural green glow. With another pulse of energy Syndey turned intangible as well, stepping into Danny's body.

Last time Sidney had overshadowed him, Danny had fought tooth and nail against the opposing force. But this time he'd welcomed the other in, and a very strange sensation stole across Danny's limbs. It was like a tugging, almost akin to flight, all across his body. Inside him, even. Sidney's thoughts brushed against his, excitement popping like fireworks. It strangely tasted like… watermelon? Maybe that was just his senses getting crossed. Danny relinquished the last of his control and found himself being thrown back, almost violently so.

Danny's back slammed into the brick, leaving him dazed and momentarily confused. He glanced down at his hands to see pale white skin. He poked at the long fingers, examining the perfectly trimmed nails and the small mole between the knuckles of the right hand. He was only shaken from his examination by a loud groan.

His body, hopefully with Sidney inside, was collapsed on the ground. Danny launched to his feet -accidenally overshooting and launching into the air instead. He managed to reorient quickly enough, though, and floated down next to his body. It was breathing, at least. So that was a good sign. Danny poked Sidney in the head, which made him realize dang my hair is greasy.

"How do I move?" Sidney asked in Danny's voice, muffled as it was, seeing as he was speaking directly into the concrete.
