Chapter 13

The following day, Mama Knight waited a while before calling the police. After all, they only take missing person cases after twenty-four hours, and it hasn't been that long for James. But this didn't mean she nor everyone else didn't worry about him. Kendall felt guilty over the whole, blaming all of this on him and his stupid decision, other's tried to comfort him and let him know it wasn't his fault. Logan had tossed and turned all night, barely getting any sleep; he had significant bags under his eyes, the worry and concern for his friend eating him alive. But what was worse was the guilt from their fight and Kendall trying to blame. Carlos wasn't sure what to say or do for anyone in this situation, not wanting to add fuel to the fire. But, he was confident that he wanted to try and find James eventually if they hadn't heard from him by ten am, for it was only six am. As stated, no one slept well that night.

"Can I at least go look for him?" Carlos questions as he gives Mama Knight a pleading look.

"No!" Mama Knight states as she eyes every one of them. Kendall and Katie may be her children by blood, but she loved James, Logan, and Carlos as if they were her own. She already lost James as of the moment; she wasn't losing anymore, which meant keeping an eye on them and not letting them leave apartment 2J. Was Mama Knight being a little overzealous? Maybe….but she was a mother, and it was her maternal instincts kicking in. She sighs, seeing the frown on Carlos's face. "Look, I want to find him too, and we will. But you are all on house watch right now! I lost one, I'm not losing another, and Kendall is grounded…."

"Mooom - " Kendall whines from where he was sitting on the orange couch. " - So not cool? Why am I grounded?"

Mama Knight gives him "the look," as the kids call it. It's a look that makes you shiver when she stares right at you, knowing you did something wrong. "Do I have to remind you?"

Kendall sighs, "No…I promise I learned my lesson!"

"Which is good but your still grounded." Mama Knight states as she crosses her arms, showing him she is serious.

Defeated, Kendall sighs as he leans back on the couch. The apartment turns relatively quiet, and tension fills the air. No one dared mention a word as to why Kendall was grounded, everyone knew, and no one wanted to talk about it more than they had it to. It has caused enough issues, and the group pretty much knows Kendall will speak to them when he wants to. Besides, when they got back from the hospital the previous night, Mama Knight had given them all one big lecture about how any kind of drugs was a big no, no, while they lived under her roof. She didn't want to see any of them using drugs until they were over twenty-one or preferable never. The group didn't blame her for her lecture; they agreed to move on with their lives and fix things before they were broken for good.

"That's it; I can't just sit around. I need to find James and talk to him," Logan states as he stands and starts for the door. Before he can get out, Mama Knight blocks his path, arms folded and "the look" on her face. Logan shudders and sighs. "Please, Mrs. Knight, I promise I'll text - "

"What part of myself did I not make "no" clear?" Mama Knight questions as she puts her hands on her hips. "Sit now…"

Logan sighs, being defeated. He sits back down, and for a while, they all hang about the apartment when they hear the door open. They are surprised when James stands at the door. Mrs. Knight rushes up, hugs him, and lets him into the apartment. Everyone is happy to see James is okay.

"Where were you, young man!?" Mama Knight questions, giving James "the look" this time. "You had us all worried! We looked for you last night from the hospital to here, and when we didn't see you, we were scared!" Mama Knight states as she frowns. "I was going to call the police and report you missing…"

James frowns, feeling guilty for making Mama Knight worry. He smiles innocently at her and explains, "I stayed at Lucy's last night. She was the first person I thought to go to. I'm sorry, I didn't mean to make everyone worry. I was just upset, and I needed time to think and clear my head." James finishes as he sighs. "I promise I'm okay."

Logan gets up from where he is sitting and starts heading over to James. "I'm glad your okay, James, but can we - " He starts to say, only to be interrupted.

" - I have nothing to say to you," James states as he glares at Logan, annoyed.

"Look, I'm trying to apologize," Logan explains, trying not to get upset. He then says, "You can be mad at me all you want, fine, but I'm trying to say I'm sorry. I shouldn't have shoved you, and I promise it won't happen again. I just want to put all this behind us and keep things the way they are." Logan explains that he was proud of himself for it; after all, he was being the bigger person and apologizing when James was an asshole to him.

Put all this behind us. Why didn't you tell someone when you knew something was going on? It could've been stopped sooner if you used that brain of your Hortense."

"Guys! Enough!" Mama Knight started hating it when the boys fought, and she was also stepping in before it got ugly, and it usually did if someone used Logan's real name. "So we see both sides of the story. James, you have a point, and Logan, we understand why you didn't tell. It was a hard situation for you to be in. But James, can we please be civil? At least Logan was apologizing to you and trying to mend things. Can't you do the same? You guys have been friends for years! Don't let this one thing break you apart. You all are stronger than that, and I knew you were! You have every right to be upset, but please, you all need one another whether you see it or not. That's the only way we're going to get through this together." Mama Knight finishes as she smiles at the boys.

There's a moment of silence, and James sighs after looking at everyone's pleading faces. I'll stop fighting, but Logan has to earn my trust back." James finishes as he crosses his arms and gives them a serious look.

But they all accept it because it's better for them then if they were fighting. James pushes past Logan and goes back to his and Carlos's shared room to unpack his things. Once he's done, he comes out and sits next to Kendall on the couch, and the two talk. Kendall apologizes to James, and they work things out and hug. Logan is still on James's cold side, which Logan didn't blame his friend, but he was happy that James was alright and back with them. Things were going okay in apartment 2J, and it seemed like things were going to be fixed; it would just take time.

That night, the group had dinner together and hung out together in apartment 2J and acted like almost everything was back to normal, and nothing ever happened. It was a lovely evening. The only thing that reminded them of Kendall's situation was Kendall's grounding and the tension between Logan and James. The group was sitting on the orange couch with popcorn, snacks, and drinks, watching a movie, when Kendall felt his phone buzz in his pocket. He pulls it out quickly to shut it off, so it's not a distraction but stops when he sees a message on his phone from the one person he did not even be in contact with right now; it said;

Old Man Jones

Hey kid, I haven't heard from you in a while; are those pills still doing well for you?

If you want, and if they are helping, I have more for you….

Text me soon!

Kendall closes his phone and puts it in his pocket, the messages replaying in his mind repeatedly during the movie. Part of him wanted to sneak out and get more, remembering how good it felt with those pills. Most of him didn't want anything to do with the drugs or the older man, remembering how much it hurt to see what his actions did to his family and friends. His mind was almost made up until there was a loud pounding knock on their door. Everyone had jumped, not expecting it, and they all wondered who could even be here at this time of night; it was almost ten. Katie paused the movie, while Mama Knight went to get the door.

Mama Knight didn't know she was expecting at the door, but she stopped when she saw the last person she would never expect to be there. That person stared at her with an unhappy look on her face, and a hand on her hip indicated she was distraught.

"Oh…Mrs. Mitchel…what a surprise? What are you doing here?"

Hearing Mama Knight, Logan stood up and came over to greet his mother, and he hugged her. The rest of the group came to them too. "Mom, it's good to see you! What are you doing here?" Logan questions after he and his mother break apart from the hug.

"I'm here to bring you home; that's what I'm doing here."

Everyone looked at the women in shock, "What?"
