AN:

Can be read as post-Phantom Planet or just with Vlad disappearing due to some other mysterious circumstances.

"Wha-what?" Danny was gobsmacked, looking at his Mom sitting across the kitchen table. She was twiddling her thumbs, a stack of envelopes sitting between them.

The entire thing had started when Danny got a call.

It was one of Vlad's lawyers, calling to say that they'd declared the millionaire dead and were going through his will.

And everything went to Danny.

The houses, the business, the millions of dollars. Everything was his. At least, they would be when he turned 18. Until then, his Mom would have control over the accounts and things. But it was still Danny's.

He'd been suspicious at first, of course. It was part of the reason why he asked if his Mom had any idea why. Her expression turned guilty, and Danny could still hear her words.

"I need to tell you something, Danny."

She'd pulled him aside to the kitchen and made him a cup of hot chocolate, while pouring a cup of coffee for herself. Then she told him that she'd been lying to him his whole life. That Jack Fenton wasn't his Dad.

"What the heck, Mom?! Who is?" Danny felt utterly betrayed. His entire life. She held a lie up for fourteen years.

"Vlad."

"You're lying, right?" She had to be joking. It made sense, but really. She and Vlad had not.

"No, no I'm not. I'm sorry, Danny. He- he wasn't as crazy in college. He only turned that way after you were born." She wouldn't meet his eyes and looked off to the side. Danny could hear her sniffle.

"Just please don't hate me," She said in a small voice that broke Danny's heart.
