Chapter 8
"Hmm...where can I find a challenger?" Karen frowned, looking around. Karen had been walking for some time, hoping to find another opponent, but with no luck.
You would think with a City this big we'd find someone to Duel. Fire sweatdropped.
Well, they are kinda taking each other out, so that doesn't help much. Karen said with a strained smile. Karen then looked to see she was at the main square before walking to the water fountain.
I have 2 Locator Cards, so I need 4 more, but it won't be easy. Not just with skilled Duelists, but with the Rare Hunters as well. Karen thought with a frown. This tournament was formed in order to lure them and Marik out of hiding. But I wonder if I can even draw them out. Considering I don't have a God Card or the Millennium Puzzle. Even with the Millennium Bracelet… Karen looked at her bracelet.
Guardian of the Nameless Pharaoh. So in retrospect, would that make me Yugi's guardian? She thought curiously.
"Do you think you can afford to think so carelessly Karen Yamamoto?" Karen grew wide eyed before quickly turning to see a robed blue eyed and black haired woman smirking at her. "You…" Karen frowned. "Who are you?"
"Forgive my rudeness. My name is Aqua, and I've come by order of my master." The woman smirked.
"Your master, you mean Marik." Karen stated.
"Correct." Aqua's smile widened.
So Marik is after us too. Fire frowned.
Seems like it. Karen agreed, holding up her right wrist where her bracelet laid.
"Which means he's after this, right?" Aqua looked at Karen's right wrist and nodded.
"Millennium Bracelet, yes." Aqua confirmed.
"Well unfortunately for both of you, but you won't get it." Karen frowned.
"Oh really?" Aqua laughed. "All I have to do is beat you in a duel, and not only is your rarest card and locator card for the master, but the Millennium Bracelet will also be his!" She paused, then added as she placed a card onto her duel disk. "Go! Gishki Chain! Swipe the Bracelet away! I don't need you switching to your alter ego! I want to duel you, Karen!"
"What?!" Karen gasped.
"You heard me!" Aqua sneered as Gishki Chain whipped the Millennium Bracelet off of Karen and it spun on the ground before coming to a stop, far away from Karen. "Winner gets the Millennium Bracelet!"
"What are you trying to pull here?" Karen questioned.
"Compared to your alter ego, you're nothing!" Aqua taunted. "You need her to do all the duels for you. In other words, you aren't the true Duel Queen!"
"For one it's not like I asked for that nickname. Either way, I'm capable of dueling just like Fire is." Karen frowned.
"Then why don't you prove it?" Aqua grinned. "Instead of relying on your alter ego to do everything for you, duel as yourself."
"Fine then. I accept." Karen nodded.
Don't worry, Fire. I'll be sure to get you back.
"DUEL!"
"I'll go first, draw!" Karen yelled. (Karen's hand: 6 cards. Karen's LP: 4000. Aqua's hand: 5 cards. Aqua's LP: 4000.)
"I Summon Fire Lotus Swordsman in ATK mode!" Karen spoke, as a green haired blue eyed swordsman appeared on her field wearing red and green armor and wielding a pure white sword with a lotus engraved on it. (Fire Lotus Swordsman, Attribute: LIGHT, Level: 4, Type: Warrior/Effect, ATK/DEF: 1700/1100. Karen's hand: 5 cards. Karen's LP: 4000. Aqua's hand: 5 cards. Aqua's LP: 4000.)
"Then I place 2 cards face-down and end my turn." Karen finished. (Karen's hand: 3 cards. Karen's LP: 4000. Aqua's hand: 5 cards. Aqua's LP: 4000.) Aqua observed Karen's field and frowned deeply.
"That's the best you could do? I'm not impressed." Aqua frowned before shrugging. "Whatever. My move." (Karen's hand: 3 cards. Karen's LP: 4000. Aqua's hand: 6 cards. Aqua's LP: 4000.) Aqua looked at her hand and smiled.
"Time to say goodbye to the tournament." Aqua remarked. "For with my current hand, not even the Duel King could stop what I'm about to unleash upon you."
"Then let's see it." Karen frowned.
"If you insist." Aqua grinned. "To start, I shall discard Gishki's Vision and Shadow to add 1 Gishki Ritual monster and 1 Gishki Ritual Spell from my Deck to my hand." After she discarded the 2 monsters, 2 cards ejected out of her Deck; thus she added them to her hand. (Karen's hand: 3 cards. Karen's LP: 4000. Aqua's hand: 6 cards. Aqua's LP: 4000.)
Gishki. A Ritual based WATER attribute Deck. Karen thought.
"Next I'll Normal Summon Gishki Beast." Aqua continued. A light blue and green colored beast appeared onto Aqua's field. (Gishki Beast, Level 4 WATER Beast-type monster, ATK/DEF: 1500/1300. Karen's hand: 3 cards. Karen's LP: 4000. Aqua's hand: 5 cards. Aqua's LP: 4000.)
"And now for Gishki Beast's effect. Upon him being Normal Summoned, he can revive 1 Gishki monster from my GY." Aqua explained. "So return to me Gishi Vision!" The small sea-serpent creature appeared next to the beast. (Gishki Vision, Level 2 WATER Sea-Serpent-type monster, ATK/DEF: 700/500. Karen's hand: 3 cards. Karen's LP: 4000. Aqua's hand: 5 cards. Aqua's LP: 4000.)
So far the total Level is 6 if she's gonna Ritual Summon now. Karen thought with a frown. But I can't let my guard down. Aqua grabbed the Ritual Spell in her hand.
"I now activate the Ritual Spell, Gishki Aquamirror." Aqua continued. She gestured to Gishki Vision. "Gishki Vision, I sacrifice you so I can Ritual Summon Evigishki Soul Ogre!" A massive aquatic creature emerged out of the ritual circle and onto Aqua's field. (Evigishki Soul Ogre, Level 8 WATER Aqua-type Ritual monster, ATK/DEF: 2800. Karen's hand: 3 cards. Karen's LP: 4000. Aqua's hand: 3 cards. Aqua's LP: 4000.)
"A Level 2 used to Ritual Summon a Level 8?" Karen frowned.
"That's right." Aqua grinned. Karen checked her Duel Disk on info of the card and understood.
"Now I get it. Gishki Vision's effect allows it to become the entire Tribute for a WATER attribute Ritual monster." She remarked.
"That's correct." Aqua retorted. "Now for Soul Ogre's effect. By discarding 1 Gishki monster, I can shuffle 1 face-up card on your field into the Deck. So I'll be sending Gishki Abyss from my hand to the GY to shuffle your Fire Lotus Swordsman back into your Deck where it belongs!" Upon discarding said monster, Evigishki Soul Ogre glowed brightly as it swung its tail and hit the swordsman in the chest; thus making him vanish from the field. Karen frowned as she returned her Swordsman to her Deck, which then shuffled.
"Ha! I told you that you were nothing without your alter ego to duel for you!" Aqua mocked.
I can't let her get to me and not get overwhelmed at her pace. Karen thought.
"The total ATK of my Beast and Soul Ogre is 4300. More than enough to wipe you out." Aqua laughed. "So do yourself a favor. Give up. Give up your locator card. Give up your rarest card. And most importantly, give up on the Millennium Bracelet."
"Are you going to battle or not?" Karen only asked. Aqua grunted in irritation at Karen's question, but her irritation quickly changed back to her (over)confident expression.
"Oh I will." Aqua retorted. "But first, I gotta get rid of 1 of your backrow. So I play Mystical Space Typhoon. I'll destroy the card closest to your Deck!" Karen shielded herself from the typhoon as it destroyed her face-down card.
"Ha! 1 less problem to deal with." Aqua smirked as she thrusted her right hand forward. "Now battle! Evigishki Soul Ogre, direct attack!" Her monster rushed in for the attack but before they could reach Karen a sudden lotus petal flew between them to Aqua's shock before a cyclone of lotus petals blew around Soul Ogre and Beast for them both to disappear.
"Wh-What?!" Aqua gasped.
"Trap activate. Vanishing Lotus! When a Fire Lotus monster leaves the field, I can activate this trap. I was able to do so thanks to your Soul Ogre's effect." Karen explained. "With it, all monsters on the field are returned to the Deck. But since my field is empty, only your monsters return to your Deck."
"Damn you…..!" Aqua growled.
"And that's not all." Karen said, as a card came out from her GY slot. "The card you destroyed was Tribute of the Lotus. And its effect activates when it's destroyed from the field which you did thanks to Mystical Space Typhoon. By banishing this card, I can Special Summon a Level 4 or lower Fire Lotus monster from my Deck. So return once more my Swordsman!" Once again, Fire Lotus Swordsman appeared on the field in a breeze of lotus petals, a smirk on his face.
I actually fell for her strategy?! Aqua thought angrily.
"Your overconfidence caused you that miscalculation." Karen told her.
"Damn you….! I end my turn…..!" Aqua growled. (Karen's hand: 3 cards. Karen's LP: 4000. Aqua's hand: 2 cards. Aqua's LP: 4000.) "Now go already!"
"My turn, draw!" Karen declared. (Karen's hand: 4 cards. Karen's LP: 4000. Aqua's hand: 2 cards. Aqua's LP: 4000.) Karen looked at her hand with a small frown.
There's not much I can do with this hand even if I wanted to. Karen thought, looking at a certain card. The best sure fire way is to use this card, but I need to fit in the requirements. It's risky but I'll have to take a chance. Karen then took a card.
"I Summon Fire Lotus Celtic Maiden!" Appearing next to Swordsman was Celtic Maiden dusting off her dress. (Fire Lotus Celtic Maiden, Attribute: LIGHT, Level: 4, Type: Spellcaster/Effect, ATK/DEF: 1300/1400. Karen's hand: 3 cards. Karen's LP: 4000. Aqua's hand: 2 cards. Aqua's LP: 4000.)
"Celtic Maiden's effect activates. When she is Summoned, I can add a Spell card from my Deck to my hand." Karen said, adding her card. "And I add Card of Sanctity."
"Why add that card?" Aqua questioned. "If you play it, I'll be drawing more cards than you."
"I know." Karen only said. "I now activate Card of Sanctity. Which allows us both to draw till we both have 6 cards in our hands."
"Fine." Both Karen and Aqua drew until they held 6 cards in their hands. (Karen's hand: 6 cards. Karen's LP: 4000. Aqua's hand: 6 cards. Aqua's LP: 4000.) Karen looked to her hand for a moment.
"Swordsman, attack Aqua directly!" She called. Swordsman rushed forward as his sword lit up in flames before slashing at Aqua. (Aqua's LP: 4000 - 1500 = 2500. Karen's hand: 6 cards. Karen's LP: 4000. Aqua's hand: 6 cards. Aqua's LP: 2500.)
"Is that all?" Aqua questioned.
"You're up next Celtic Maiden!" Karen called, as Celtic Maiden summoned magical burning petals and launched them at Aqua. Aqua tsked from the attack. (Aqua's LP: 2500 - 1300 = 1200. Karen's hand: 6 cards. Karen's LP: 4000. Aqua's hand: 6 cards. Aqua's LP: 1200.)
"I then set a card face-down and end my turn." Karen finished. (Karen's hand: 5 cards. Karen's LP: 4000. Aqua's hand: 6 cards. Aqua's LP: 1200.)
"Really? That's it? Not going to beat me this turn?" Aqua questioned before shrugging. "Oh well. Your loss! Draw!" (Karen's hand: 5 cards. Karen's LP: 4000. Aqua's hand: 7 cards. Aqua's LP: 1200.) Aqua looked at her hand and smiled.
"Much better. Time to actually deal some damage to you." Aqua grinned. "I activate Gishki Aquamirror! This time using Gishki Shadow as the entire Tribute!" The monster appeared before being used as the Tribute. "Arise Gishki Zielgigas!" The large aquatic creature that looked like a waterified version of Steelswarm Hercules. (Gishki Zielgigas, Level 10 WATER Aqua-type Ritual monster, ATK/DEF: 3200/0. Karen's hand: 5 cards. Karen's LP: 4000. Aqua's hand: 4 cards. Aqua's LP: 1200.)
"This is my most powerful monster." Aqua revealed.
"3200 ATK." Karen muttered with a swallow.
"Yes." Aqua grinned. "I shall devastate you with its effect. By paying 1000 LP, I can draw 1 card and reveal it. If it's a Gishki monster, I can shuffle 1 card on your field into your Deck. I shall do so now." Aqua tsked as her LP fell to 200, then drew a card. She turned it over and began to laugh. "Ahahaha! I've drawn Gishki Shadow! Now your set card returns to your Deck!" Karen returned her card to her Deck as it shuffled. "Now that's out of the way, let's do another Ritual Summon! Gishki Aquamirror! Use Shadow as the entire Tribute for Evigishki Soul Ogre!" The soul ogre reappeared onto Aqua's field. "Now by discarding my Gishki Chain, I shuffle your Swordsman back into the Deck!" Once again, Swordsman left the field as Karen returned him to the Deck.
"Ha! If these 2 attacks succeed, I win!" Aqua sneered. "Battle! Evigishki Soul Ogre, attack her Celtic Maiden!"
"I activate the effect of Fire Lotus Keeper from my hand! By sending this card from my hand to the GY my monsters aren't destroyed this turn!" Karen yelled, as Celtic Maiden glowed a red aura.
"But you still take damage!" Aqua retorted as the attack went through. (Karen's LP: 4000 - 1500 = 2500. Karen's hand: 4 cards. Karen's LP: 2500. Aqua's hand: 4 cards. Aqua's LP: 200.) Karen shielded herself from the shockwave of Soul Ogre's attack on Celtic Maiden as her LP decreased.
"Now Zielgigas, attack!" Aqua continued. Zielgigas attacked Celtic Maiden. (Karen's LP: 2500 - 1900 = 600. Karen's hand: 4 cards. Karen's LP: 600. Aqua's hand: 4 cards. Aqua's LP: 200.)
"Ugh…" Karen grunted.
"Just one more turn, and I win!" Aqua smirked. "I set 2 cards and end my turn. Your move." (Karen's hand: 4 cards. Karen's LP: 600. Aqua's hand: 2 cards. Aqua's LP: 200.)
"My turn, draw!" Karen said. (Karen's hand: 5 cards. Karen's LP: 600. Aqua's hand: 2 cards. Aqua's LP: 200.)
"Just...just give up already." Aqua taunted.
"And why should I?" Karen questioned, looking at her hand.
"Look at your field! You have 1 monster and no set cards!" Aqua pointed out. "What can you do?"
"So you say. But I can't give up when Fire is on the line." Karen frowned, glancing at the Bracelet.
"Then go ahead and make your move." Aqua remarked.
"That I will. And I'll start by activating the Ritual Spell, Ritual of the Fire Spirit!" Karen yelled.
"Wh-What?!" Aqua gaped, stepping back. "Since when did you have that card?!"
"I Tribute Celtic Maiden and Beast Tamer from my hand!" Karen said, as a burning magic circle appeared underneath Celtic Maiden as she became a lotus lit on fire. "No blood, no bone, no ash. Burn all of your enemies to nothing in the name of the fallen! Ritual Summon! Fire Lotus Spirit Spryzan!" The lotus shattered before appearing in a torrent of flames was a white armored male elvish spirit. His burning green eyes stared down at Aqua's monsters, wild blond hair kept under his helm, dark red wings spread wide, and gripping upon a large white halberd. (Fire Lotus Spirit Spryzan, Attribute: FIRE, Level: 8, Type: Fairy/Ritual/Effect, ATK/DEF: 3000/2400. Karen's hand: 2 cards. Karen's LP: 600. Aqua's hand: 2 cards. Aqua's LP: 200.)
"Humph." Aqua grunted after regaining her composure. "So you've impressed me a little bit."
"There's more. Spryzan has an effect that for every Fire Lotus in the GY, he gains 100 ATK." Karen said. "So far there are 2. So he gains 200 ATK."
"So now it matches my Zielgigas in terms of ATK." Aqua noted.
"Yeah, but Zielgigas won't be my target." Karen said. "Go Spryzan, attack Soul Ogre! Burning Requiem!" Spryzan twirled his halberd to have it lit on fire before rushing to strike the Gishki monster. Aqua glanced at her face-downs, then at Karen's monster.
The main purpose of me dueling the girl was to test her strength. Aqua thought. In that case, I have served my purpose. She watched as her Soul Ogre was destroyed. (Aqua's LP: 200 - 400 = 0.)
"I did it." Karen breathed relieved. She then went to quickly grab back the Millennium Bracelet. After making sure it wasn't damaged, she put it back on to immediately hear Fire shouting.
Once I get my hands on that little! Fire snapped.
Glad to see you're ok. Karen remarked. Fire relaxed upon hearing Karen before glancing at her.
Of course I am. After all, I knew you'd win. Karen gave a nod before going to Aqua. Just as Karen got the locatar card, Aqua's eyes dulled and the millennium emblem appeared on her forehead.
"I must applaud you for defeating Aqua." Karen gasped, quickly moving back.
"What?" She gasped. "You… You're Marik!"
"How perceptive!" Marik spoke through Aqua's mouth. "I'm assuming my foolish sister Ishizu told you about me. Heh heh heh…! It doesn't matter either way. Especially considering this was a test of strength. Now that's done, it's time I send another Rare Hunter to deal with a new problem that I'll be facing if it's not handled now."
"New problem?" Karen frowned.
Could he mean Kisara? Fire wondered, much to Karen's shock.
"The girl that Seto Kaiba hangs out with also has a connection to the past." Marik continued. "Seto Kaiba may not believe it, but that girl that uses Blue-Eyes is the only one that can keep him in check. If she's gone, then Seto Kaiba will go on a rampage. If that were to happen, obtaining Obelisk the Tormentor will become a far more simpler task. Hahaha!"
"You leave her alone Marik!" Karen snapped angrily
"Oh? Did I hit a nerve?" Marik taunted. "Yes. Kisara shall be dealt with. Permanently. And I already have the perfect Rare Hunter to deal with her."
"What?" Karen questioned angrily.
"A duelist with the opposite dragon!" Marik laughed.
Opposite Dragon? The opposite of Blue Eyes is…! Karen thought before she grew wide eyed.
"Red Eyes…!"
"That's right!" Marik confirmed. "And don't bother warning Kisara dear Karen! Should you do, my Rare Hunter will kill her without hesitation! Because I ordered him to!"
"Marik you…!" Karen growled.
"Hahahaha! I'll be arriving in the city soon enough." Marik continued. "Until then, farewell Karen!" After he said that, Aqua fell face-first into the ground; knocked out.
Great! So not only is a Rare Hunter going after Kisara, but now Marik is coming to the City! Why didn't I ask Ishizu what her damn brother looked like?! Fire yelled.
"Now is not the time Fire." Karen frowned, placing Aqua on a bench by the fountain. "We have to find Kisara and fast."
But we can't warn her or he'll have his Rare Hunter kill her. Fire frowned.
"We can at least find her!" Karen countered, as she began running.
Kisara was walking down the street to where the stream was before stopping. "Might as well come out now. I know you're there." She spoke. A hooded figure emerged from the shadows of an alley near Kisara.
"I should have known you'd find me." The hooded figure spoke.
"So you're one of the Rare Hunters Ishizu told me about." Kisara frowned.
"That's right. Call me Kuroi." He spoke as he raised his left arm up and activated his duel disk. "Due to Kaiba Corp Battle City rules, we must ante up our rarest card in addition to our locator card(s)."
"I have 2." Kisara revealed them. Kuroi revealed his own 2.
"As do I." Kuroi replied. "My rarest card…..you'll find out soon enough." He looked around, then back at Kisara. "This place is far too out in the open. Let's go somewhere where we can have privacy for our duel."
"So a secret location." Kisara frowned as she crossed her arms. "And if I refuse to follow?" At that, Kuroi smirked.
"If you do that, then I'll just go after Seto Kaiba instead." He replied. "After all, he has what my master wants."
"What your Master wants is Obelisk the Tormentor." Kisara frowned deeply. "Well sorry. But if you want to get to Seto, you'll have to go through me first!"
"Fine with me." Kuroi smirked. "Let's go then."
"You lead the way to this secret location." Kisara remarked.
Aurasoul: And that is it for this chapter!
Fire: What the heck?!
Aurasoul: Oh calm down Karen won in the end but lets see if Kisara will be as lucky in her duel its Red Eyes vs Blue Eyes till next time everyone please read and review!
