"Those bridesmaid dresses are too pretty," Percy muttered, flipping through the wedding catalogue sitting on the kitchen table. Hermione just sighed, looking over at him.
"Really, do we have to talk about this now? All I wanted was a cup of coffee and something to eat, don't ruin my morning."
"But didn't we promise to find the ugliest dress for Ginny to wear because of her meddling?"
"We did, and we will. I don't see why I have to torture Luna like that though?" Hermione asked, putting butter on her toast. Percy walked over to the stove and started cooking some bacon. Hermione smiled watching him, remembering how the first night they'd spent together he'd made her breakfast.
"Sometimes the smallest things take up the most room in your heart," she muttered, wondering if that had been the moment she'd fallen for Percy, or if that had come later, then again, Rose had come later. Percy flipped the bacon, the kitchen filling with the smell. She watched him grab three plates and start to head back to the table, twisting and turning.
"What… what is that dance? Are you trying to seduce me? What are you doing?" she laughed, watching him trying to juggle the plates and the bacon.
"No, I'm not trying to seduce you, I'm trying to not step on the tiny little plastic blocks our darling offspring decorated the floor with."
"Do you carry a thesaurus around with you? You could have just said Rose left her legos all over the floor again."
"But the way I said it sounded cooler."
"It sounded pompous, but then again, that kind of is your thing, isn't it?"
"Please. I brought a knife to a gunfight and won, that's how good I am at being a pompous git," Percy teased, placing a plate of bacon in front of Hermione, one at his seat and one at the chair that was currently covered in maroon and gold lion stickers. They both knew Rose would be appearing shortly having smelled the bacon.
"You're such a tease," Hermione stated, stabbing her bacon with her fork.
"True, but you love me anyway," Percy replied as they heard the sound of pitter pattering little feet."
"Maybe, well, I do now at least. I honestly didn't know where to turn when everything went...well, went off the rails."
"Don't think about it, Hermione, that's all in the past. Right now you've got two people who love you very much. Rose doesn't care if I'm her biological father or not."
"She doesn't, does she," Hermione marveled as Rose slid into the kitchen wearing a pair of fuzzy socks, a pair of shorts and tank top that read "Do You Want to Build a Snowman" in glittery white letters.
"Bacon?"
"Yes, Percy made bacon, sit down and eat it while it's hot and then go get dressed."
"I am dressed. Ohh, are you picking out the bridesmaid dresses? Aunt Ginny hates red, so could they be red?" Rose asked, shoveling her breakfast into her mouth. Hermione glared at her. Rose paused, slowly chewing her food before speaking again.
"Or pink," she added.
"We'll see, go ahead and circle the ones you like and we might head out shopping after breakfast, if you get dressed," Hermione added. Rose stuck out her tongue but nodded, eating the rest of her breakfast in a more polite way before darting off to get dressed.
"Pink? Isn't that your least favorite color?" Percy asked.
"It is," Hermione replied, giving him a quick kiss before cleaning off the table. "But Ginny hates it more than me," she added, a smirk crossing her face.
"I love you," Percy stated, shaking his head.
"I love you too. I'll go see if Rose is ready, remember, not a word to Ginny."
"I am not a snitch," Percy protested earning himself another kiss from his bride to be.
"Good," she laughed, heading towards Rose's room, leaving Percy to muse on the fact that even though his brother had abandoned Hermione in her time of need, he'd been lucky enough to be there to pick up the pieces and find his own happily ever after.
