Hermione tried to ignore the stack of mail building up on the corner of her desk. She could see a few of the envelopes were various shades of reds and pinks. She knew exactly what was in those. Ever since her break up with Ron had been front page news, every wizard, and some witches, thought she was interested in dating. It was only getting worse as the month progressed, getting closer and closer to Valentine's Day.

"You ever going to open those?" Luna asked, sticking her head in Hermione's doorway.

"No. They'll sit there until the end of time," Hermione answered. "I've got better things to do than write a million rejection letters to wizards I don't even know, or worse, ones I do know and can not stand."

"I could take a look at them, write the rejections, nicely of course, and that way you'll be free to do the important things like look over my proposal for the Nigwa Grant?" Luna offered, giving Hermione a smile.

"You just want your expedition fast tracked so you can leave before spring."

"It really is the best time to see them," Luna argued, knowing Hermione already knew that, and that Hermione was going to give Luna the grant anyway.

"Fine, fine, knock yourself out. Just... make sure they know it's a 'no' and not send another freaking card next month?"

"Got it," Luna said, cheerfully, grabbing the stack of cards, making sure to leave the proper mail on the desk. Hermione shook her head and started working on the paperwork for Luna's grant. If nothing else, this would keep Luna busy as to not be pestering her about it later, or telling Hermione about whatever creature it was she was hunting for. Hermione had lost track about which one this expedition was actually for, only that Luna was taking Severus Snape with her of all people.

It was nearing lunch time when Luna reappeared in Hermione's doorway.

"I've gone through the stack you gave me, and there were a few that I wasn't sure what to do with."

"Reject them like the rest?' Hermione suggested with a laugh.

"I would, but one of them happens to be someone who I know you had a crush on in school," Luna said, giving Hermione a sheepish smile. Hermione blinked.

"Really? Who?"

"I could tell you, but...where's the fun in that? I've set you up on a coffee date with him this afternoon instead."

"Luna!?"

"Don't worry, if you don't like him, or don't want to stay, you don't have to," Luna replied, grabbing the signed grant proposal from Hermione's desk and darting off saying something about showing Severus. Hermione just shook her head. Sometimes Luna could be just too much!

Hermione looked at the address of the coffee shop Luna had written down for her. She'd never been to this one, despite it being near the Ministry. Part of her wondered who she could be meeting, who would have sent her a valentine to her office that she would actually want to meet? She glanced around the shop, the smell of the grinding beans filling her nose. For a moment, she allowed herself to smile. The smell of fresh coffee always put her in a good mood, that was probably why Luna had made arrangements for her to meet him here.

"Hermione? You came!"

Hermione blinked, recognizing the voice almost instantly. How could she not have realized! She had known at least one of the valentines had come from the interoffice post, but she'd never given much thought to who had sent it, she might have opened it herself if she'd realized.

"Percy! I should have realized it was you,"she laughed, joining Percy at the table he'd already procured.

"I was surprised to get your owl, well, your assistant's owl."

"She is not my assistant, I don't know what she is, she's just Luna. If I'd realized it was from you, I'd have opened it personally. I didn't know you were-"

"Single, looking for a date, interested in you?" he asked.

"All the above actually. I guess that's what I get for not paying attention to the office gossip," Hermione laughed. Percy nodded, ordering them both drinks.

"My private life isn't something I broadcast honestly. And I've been interested in a date with you since your fifth year, when you took on the Ministry and I started to realize I was wrong about a lot of things."

"Well, we're here now," she replied. "I have to admit, I've had a bit of a crush on you since forever, the way you push your glasses up when you read, the amount of dedication you put into your studies, how thorough you are with your work now."

"I'm glad I sent that card then, I was starting to think it was a stupid idea, childish really."

"I'm glad you did too," Hermione answered as their coffees arrived. "How about we take a walk, and see where we end up?" she suggested, a faint blushing spreading across her cheeks. "I'm sure you're thorough in other departments too?" she asked, causing Percy to nearly spit out his coffee as his face reddened. He nodded, taking Hermione's hand as they slipped out of the coffee shop and started walking in the direction of Hermione's flat, the one she'd gotten close to work for work reasons and not because she'd ever dreamed about taking a coworker home.
