Chapter 14
Karen sat in her room with a frown, looking at the Millennium Bracelet. Isono had called for the break for the Duelists before resuming the last 2 matches, allowing the others to go to their rooms. Karen rubbed her bracelet with worry.
She still hasn't come out from the Millennium Bracelet. Was seeing the Winged Dragon of Ra that much of a shock for her? She thought, recalling Fire's expression upon seeing the 3rd God Card. I've never seen her like that before. It was like she saw a ghost or something… Suddenly she heard a knock on her door, making her jump and looking at the door for a moment. She stood up and opened it, surprised to see Yugi.
"Oh Yugi." She spoke softly.
"Hi Karen." Yugi greeted before frowning soon after. "You alright? Is Fire okay?"
Karen frowned, shaking her head as she allowed Yugi to enter before closing the door. "She still hasn't come out from the Bracelet." She replied. "I'm worried. She's never done this before…"
"W-Well...Ra's effects were terrifying." Yugi chuckled. "And something tells me there's more it can do then what Marik showed off." His frown soon returned. "Though I don't think its effects are the reason Fire is like this."
"You're right. I've known Fire for a good 2 years now and I've never seen her like that when she first saw Ra." Karen frowned. "It was as if she saw a ghost or something. She was completely frozen back there." Yugi put a hand to his chin as if in deep thought.
"Hmm… Maybe Ra has something to do with her past that she has forgotten?" Yugi wondered aloud. Karen grew wide eyed before thinking. "The mural…" She muttered softly.
"Mural?" Yugi asked.
"It was what Tsubasa wanted to talk to me about earlier. She had told me that she found this mural. And according to Ishizu, that mural is called the Mural of the Sun. It's most likely Fire's mural; like how the one in the museum is Yami's."
"But how would it be connected to the Winged Dragon of Ra?" He asked.
"The Winged Dragon of Ra has the name of the Egyptian Sun God, Ra. While the name bears the name of the Sun." She explained to him. "They might be connected somehow."
"Hopefully." Yugi agreed. "And hopefully us continuing through this tournament will give us the answers we are looking for."
"We can go talk with Tsubasa. She mentioned knowing something." Karen began, as she glanced at the window before she gasped. "What?!" She quickly turned much to Yugi's surprise before he did the same and gasped to see a familiar man in white robes standing before them.
"You're Shadi!" Yugi gasped.
"Yugi, you know him?" Karen asked, shocked.
"We met before on Duelist Kingdom." Yugi confirmed.
"I am Shadi. I watch over the Millennium Items." Shadi spoke, holding up his Millennium Key.
An ankh? No wait, it almost looks like a key. Karen thought.
"You watch over the Millennium Items? So then you possess a Millennium Item yourself?"
"That is the correct host of the Guardian's soul." Shadi confirmed. "I stand here for all 8 Millennium Items gathered here along with the 3 God Cards. Everything needed to open the doors of the Pharaoh's and Guardian's memories are on this battleship. But know that only the chosen ones can use the Millennium Items and the God Cards. If a non-chosen tries to use them, he/she will earn God's wrath."
"Then who are the chosen ones?" Yugi questioned. "I mean, I know me and Karen can use them because of our alter egos ties to the ancient past, but who else?"
"What about Kisara? She has a mural too connected to being called the Blue Eyes Maiden." Karen said.
"The Blue Eyes Maiden, the beginning of the white dragon." Shadi remarked.
"Beginning of the white dragon?" Karen blinked.
"It was the soul of the Maiden that gave birth to the ancient white dragon that lives on today." Shadi told them. "As such, even she has the power to call upon God."
Ancient white dragon? Does he mean Blue Eyes White Dragon? And what does he mean the Maiden's soul gave birth to it? Karen thought with a frown.
"What do you mean?" Yugi questioned.
"I mean the ancient energy the Egyptians used to Summon monsters." Shadi explained. "The energy of ka." He frowned before adding. "Why I said that her soul gave birth to the white dragon is because… Well, let's just say she ended up dying as a result. Should one's ka get turned into a stone tablet. Which is what happened." He then turned his attention to Yugi. "You saw a card with an art with what I spoke of, I take it? Does the name Soul with the Eyes of Blue ring any bells?" The 2 gasped at this looking at one another, shocked.
"I take it by your expressions that you do." Shadi continued.
"But if her soul was what gave birth to Blue Eyes, then how could her soul be reborn in this time?" Karen questioned. "And for what purpose?"
"Sadly, not even I know." Shadi frowned deeply. "But clearly she has some memories from the ancient past. Though it appears to be fuzzy."
Guess Fire and Yami aren't the only ones… Karen thought with a frown.
"But I do know one thing." Shadi spoke. "The Guardian and Maiden share close ties. As a result, they are closely linked. As is the Guardian to the Pharaoh."
"As in really close friends?" Yugi wondered aloud.
"Fire did mention Kisara felt familiar to her." Karen remarked.
"Oh? She did?" Shadi questioned.
"When we had a tag duel together and she dueled with Kisara, she felt as if she knew Kisara before." Karen frowned.
"Hmm…" Shadi hummed. "So it would seem that not all of her memories were locked away. Or perhaps it's a feeling she had."
"I can't really say she's always had these feelings. It was how she knew Yami was the one she was looking for." Karen replied.
"What do you mean?" Yugi asked, surprised.
"When Fire awoke after I put on the Millennium Bracelet, she had a feeling in her chest that she had to look for someone, but didnt know who. But when we met you guys and she saw Yami… And it clicked for her." Karen explained.
"I see." Shadi mused. "So her emotions remained while her memories didn't. How odd. The Nameless Pharaoh's emotions in the regard to his Ancient Past haven't returned yet. That could be because he's not sure what to connect the emotions to."
"She does have good foresight." Karen muttered.
"Either way, I should see her for myself to see." Shadi replied, lifting his Millennium Key.
"Eh? What do you plan to do?" Karen questioned.
"He's going to enter the Millennium Bracelet." Yugi answered. "He did the same thing to me back in Duelist Kingdom."
"Wait, you mean go in her Soul Room?" Karen questioned.
"That is correct." Shadi nodded. At once, Karen took a step back.
"I would advise against that." She said.
"You fear the traps inside her Soul Room?" Shadi questioned. "I am aware that both the Puzzle and Bracelet's Soul Rooms for your alter egos will have traps. I learned from the last time. But know that this is necessary."
"Er I kinda mean Fire. She's…pretty territorial on her Soul Room." Karen warned. "She does not approve of strangers in there."
"And you think I don't know that?" Shadi pressed. "The Nameless Pharaoh was the same way." At this Karen looked to Yugi in surprise who gave a sheepish nod before she frowned and sighed.
"Ok. But don't say I didn't warn you." She warned.
"If you don't want me to enter, then I won't." Shadi replied before frowning. "But do you, or do you not want the Nameless Guardian to regain her memories? That was the reason you entered the Battle City Tournament, no?" Karen frowned, sighing.
"Ok, go ahead." She said. Shadi nodded, raising his Millennium Key to her forehead making her gasp as it glowed. Shadi then found himself between 2 doors.
"Just as with the Nameless Pharaoh and his host." Shadi remarked, looking to the left. The door was opened to reveal a warm room with an autumn cabin feel to it with even a fireplace lit with light and color. "Open and inviting to those around her she is as pure as the Pharaoh's host." He smiled slightly, before turning to the other door. "It's similar but the stones are that of bronze."
He opened the door to reveal stairs and doors of warm bronze as he walked inside. "She hasn't made an appearance. Does she not know I'm here?" He wondered, as he walked. He opened one door before he gasped and moved away as flames shot out from it before he quickly closed it.
"A trap and such intense heat and flames." He panted, standing up. "It would seem finding her room will be more dangerous than the Pharaoh's now I see why the host was worried." Shadi continued walking, passing many doors as he did while noticing the walls having markings on them.
"Could this be the flow of emotions?" He frowned. He then reached a door opening it to see blackness slowly walking in.
"Is this the room?" He wondered. Suddenly he felt a sharp blade against his neck.
"You must have some nerve to come in here like this." Shadi gasped glancing behind him to see cold sharp green eyes that see right through him before torches were suddenly lit to reveal a cold Fire who held a scythe in hand the blade against his neck.
Such coldness! Is this the persona she takes when dealing with enemies to the Pharaoh?! Shadi thought shocked.
"I applaud your bravery but carelessly walking in here will be fatal for you." She stated coldly, edging the blade closer to his neck. "Now state your name and business here at once."
She hasn't gone for the kill but is clearly cautious and calculating. As to be expected of the Guardian. He thought before speaking. "I can assure you that I am no enemy."
"Given your location your words don't carry much weight." She frowned, before noticing a gleam. "That…"
She grabbed to turn him to see the Millennium Key around his neck.
"An ankh that looks like a key." She muttered, before looking at him. "Now I see. You're Shadi."
"You know who I am." He spoke.
"Yami had told me about you some time ago." She replied, withdrawing her scythe. "A spirit like us who possesses 2 of the Millennium Items, the Millennium Key and the Millennium Scales."
"That is correct." Shadi confirmed.
"Why have you come into my Soul Room?" She questioned, allowing her scythe to disappear in flames.
"To speak to you about your memories." Shadi replied.
"My memories?" She frowned. "I do not have my memories just like Yami."
"Yet you have emotions that connect to them." Shadi pointed out. "Let's start with this: Karen told me that you felt a familiarity with Kisara. Is that true?" Fire frowned at this yet nodded.
"I had a feeling of familiarity with Kisara when I met her which became profound when we dueled together." She explained. "Yet I couldn't recall where or how."
"It is as I thought." Shadi mused. "Your emotions regarding those you're close to from the Ancient Past remained, but your memories of them did not."
"My emotions?" She questioned, confused.
"Yes." Shadi nodded.
My emotions of the past? Could that be why I had that feeling of looking for Yami? Fire thought.
"But why only me?"
"That I do not know." Shadi replied. "But if I would have to guess, it is your instincts as the guardian that allow your emotions to follow you now."
"My instincts as a guardian…" She frowned, looking at her hand.
"It goes without saying that you are to protect the Nameless Pharaoh with your life for you to guide him to the path he must truly take." He told her.
"That goes without saying as you said. I plan to do so without question." She stated.
"Right." Shadi nodded.
"Well we should leave. I know for a fact Karen is still probably worried I might have hurt you in some way." Fire replied amused.
"Right." Shadi nodded. With a glow Shadi found himself once more in the room of the blimp Karen gasped softly stepping back with wobbly legs while Fire appeared behind her.
Easy now. Fire told her gently.
"Now that I have made my confirmation, I shall pass my final message to the Guardian and Pharaoh." Shadi spoke. At this Yugi and Karen nodded, allowing Yami and Fire to take over as Shadi kneeled.
"All 8 Millennium Items are on this ship. So please win your duels and open the door to your memories." He spoke to them. They nodded as Isono's voice echoed in the intercoms making them look up.
"Tournament participants, please report to the hall." He said.
"Looks like that's our cue." Fire hummed.
"Yeah." Yami nodded. Once they looked back down they saw Shadi had disappeared.
"He's gone…" Fire remarked, surprised.
"He leaves like that." Yami mused.
"So all the Millennium Items are on here. Which means the one who stole the Millennium Eye is here too." Fire remarked. "Which means all we have to do now is get the God Cards."
"Yeah." Yami nodded with a frown. "But it won't be easy. Especially considering that Marik has 2 out of the 3 Egyptian God Cards already."
"Well we knew it wasn't gonna be easy to begin with." Fire sighed. "All we can do now is to keep dueling. So for right now we have to win our upcoming duels."
We're counting on you. Yugi smiled.
You guys got this. Karen added with a smile. The 2 smiled and nodded as they both left the room.
Tsubasa looked up from hearing Isono before she faced Ishizu who sat across from her.
"Do you plan to confront them? Your brothers I mean." She said. Ishizu pondered for several seconds before responding.
"Doing so would not be good at this time." Ishizu replied. "So long as Rishid remains standing, Marik's dark side won't come out."
"Though it seems a bit unreal. Do you think the reason Rishid went with Marik is to make sure his dark side doesn't surface?" Tsubasa asked her.
"That is what I told your younger sister." Ishizu replied. "Or rather, the Nameless Pharaoh's Guardian."
"I see." Tsubasa hummed. "Do you resent them? For what they've done?" Ishizu shook her head in response.
"I do not." Ishizu answered. "I only resent myself for not trying to stop them better."
"You can't really fault yourself for that. Especially given your brother has the Millenium Rod." Tsubasa frowned. "I highly doubt your necklace could do much against it."
"What about you?" Ishizu asked. "Are you not worried for your sister?"
"I trust Fire enough with my sister's body and Karen is firm in her decision to help Fire. Just as me and our father were firm in helping Fire learn more of her past." Tsubasa explained. "And once this is over, I can show Fire her mural."
"Tell me how you managed to acquire her mural?" Ishizu questioned. "I would think no gravekeeper would be that willing to just hand something like that over."
"Let's just say we were helping one another in the long run." Tsubasa replied simply. Ishizu looked confused at this while Tsubasa looked out the window.
Fire will probably be mad at me for this, but I won't regret it either. She thought.
Everyone gathered at the hall Fire looked to see Kisara and Mokuba and walked to them.
"How's Seto?" She asked them. Both Mokuba and Kisara looked down.
"Well umm….." Kisara spoke, uncertainty in her voice. Fire frowned at this before patting their shoulders.
"Hey it'll be ok. This is Seto we're talking about, he'll be fine." She said.
"I hope you're right." Mokuba replied.
"Trust me. Soon enough he'll be up and barking about not being able to duel Yami." Fire smirked. Kisara laughed lightly at that.
"That is true." Kisara nodded in agreement.
"You're right Karen, Nii-sama will be fine." Mokuba smiled. "Now we better get started."
"Let's." Fire nodded. Mokuba nodded and faced Isono.
"Everyone is here Isono, start the machine." He told him.
"Right Mokuba-sama." Isono nodded. Soon thereafter, the machine started up and the numbered white balls began spinning and bouncing around. After a minute or two, one of the white balls came out to reveal its number: Number 2.
"Looks like you're up Yami." Fire remarked.
"Right." Yami nodded.
But against who? Yugi asked Yami. The second white ball soon came out to reveal the Number 5, to everyone's surprise.
"Eh? Number 5? But thats-." Anzu began.
"Me." Shizuka spoke, speechlessness on her face.
"Oh wow!" Kisara smiled lightly.
So Jonouchi-kun's sister will duel Yami. Karen said softly.
This will be interesting to see. Fire hummed.
"S-So I guess we take the elevator up then Yugi?" Shiuzka turned as she asked Yami. Yami glanced at Shizuka and nodded.
They all gathered at the top of the blimp Yami and Shizuka on the field as they shuffled each other's decks.
"I'm so nervous…" Shizuka chuckled awkwardly.
"Don't be." Yami told her as he handed her her now shuffled deck back to her. She took and handed Yugi's deck back to Yami, who also took it.
"Think Shizuka will be ok?" Honda frowned, worried.
"I hope so." Anzu frowned as well, equally worried.
"I just want to see a good duel." Kisara remarked from the sidelines with the others.
"I say we'll no doubt get one from those 2." Fire replied.
"You're right." Mokuba nodded before frowning. "Though it'll be a bumpy start. Just look at Shizuka."
"Hmm?" Kisara hummed before looking up to see Shizuka fidgeting with her cards in her hand. "Oh."
"Is it alright if I go first Yugi?" Shizuka asked nervously.
"Of course." Yami nodded.
"Alright. D-Draw!" Shizuka declared. (Shizuka's hand: 6 cards. Shizuka's LP: 4000. Yami's hand: 5 cards. Yami's LP: 4000.) Shizuka looked at her hand.
"U-Umm….. I set 1 card and end my turn." Shizuka spoke softly. (Shizuka's hand: 5 cards. Shizuka's LP: 4000. Yami's hand: 5 cards. Yami's LP: 4000.)
"Ehh? That's it?" Kisara questioned.
She's hesitating. Fire thought with a frown. Yami frowned, then placed his right on his deck.
"Very well. I draw." (Shizuka's hand: 5 cards. Shizuka's LP: 4000. Yami's hand: 6 cards. Yami's LP: 4000.) Yami looked over at Shizuka and her 1 set card, then back at his hand.
She's nervous. Yuig told Yami. What should we do? Winning against her while she's in this state wouldn't be a real win, wouldn't it?
No it wouldn't. Yami agreed, looking at Shizuka with a soft frown. Jonouchi-kun had battled in the Duelist Kingdom tournament in order for Shizuka to see again and to give her the courage to do so. I feel we too should help her gain that very courage her brother had as well.
Yes. Yugi nodded. So how do you want to go about this? For our turn, I mean.
You know I am not one to sugarcoat Aibou. In order for her to gain the courage as a Duelist, we must duel her just the same. Yami replied.
You mean like we have been doing up until now? Yugi questioned.
It would be an insult if we didn't. Yami pointed out.
But Shizuka is still new to Duel Monsters. Yugi countered before he sighed. But I suppose you're right.
Have a little faith in me Aibou. Yami assured him with a calm smile.
I do. Yugi agreed before chuckling lightly. I just fear you'll go overboard.
One, I resent that. And two, that's something Fire would do. Yami smirked.
"I heard that!" Fire snapped, annoyed, Karen giggling. "Get on with the turn Yami!"
"Very well then." Yami chuckled as he grabbed a card from his hand. "I Summon Gazelle the King of Mythical Beasts in ATK Mode." A brown-furred beast appeared onto Yami's side of the field. (Gazelle the King of Mythical Beasts, Level 4 EARTH Beast-type monster, ATK/DEF: 1500/1200. Shizuka's hand: 5 cards. Shizuka's LP: 4000. Yami's hand: 5 cards. Yami's LP: 4000.) He then thrusted his right hand forward.
"Now Gazelle, attack her directly!" Yami declared. The beast leapt forward and slashed Shizuka's chest area; causing her to yelp and skid backwards a bit. (Shizuka's LP: 4000 - 1500 = 2500. Shizuka's hand: 5 cards. Shizuka's LP: 2500. Yami's hand: 5 cards. Yami's LP: 4000.)
"I set 2 cards and end my turn." Yami concluded. (Shizuka's hand: 5 cards. Shizuka's LP: 4000. Yami's hand: 3 cards. Yami's LP: 4000.) "It's your turn."
"I-I draw!" Shizuka stuttered, drawing a card. (Shizuka's hand: 6 cards. Shizuka's LP: 4000. Yami's hand: 3 cards. Yami's LP: 4000.)
I can't just let Yugi beat me. Shizuka thought. But I'm still super new to this game; I'm not even sure how I should proceed. She looked at her hand, then her set card.
"I activate my set card, Darklord Enchantment!" Shizuka revealed.
"Darklord?" Fire blinked.
"I guess Seto got that Rare Hunter's deck after we beat him." Kisara noted.
"By sending a Darklord card from my hand to the GY, I take control of your monster for the turn." Shizuka explained as she discarded Darklord Uprising form her hand. "Since Gazelle is the only monster you control; it becomes my monster until the end of my turn."
"Which means she could use it as a Tribute for a Tribute Summon." Fire remarked thoughtfully. Yami watched Gazelle go from his side of the field to Shizuka's. (Shizuka's hand: 5 cards. Shizuka's LP: 4000. Yami's hand: 3 cards. Yami's LP: 4000.) Shizuka revealed Darklord Ixchel in her hand.
"I activate Darklord Ixchel's effect in my hand." Shizuka continued. "By discarding it and Darklord Superbia, I draw 2 more cards." She did so. After drawing her 2 new cards, she observed her hand again. "Hmm… I activate the Spell card, Darklord Contact." The spell card appeared, depicting the art of Darklord Nasten at the top of the stairs, trying to communicate with God. "This card lets me Special Summon 1 Darklord monster from my GY in Defense Position." She grabbed Darklord Superbia's card out of her GY. "Come to the field, Darklord Superbia!" A large cubical fairy with small dark red wings appeared onto Shizuka's field in Defense Position. (Darklord Superbia, Level 8 DARK Fairy-type monster, ATK/DEF: 2900/2400. Shizuka's hand: 5 cards. Shizuka's LP: 4000. Yami's hand: 3 cards. Yami's LP: 4000.)
"Superbia's effect!" Shizuka announced. "Upon it being Special Summoned from the GY, I can Special Summon 1 Fairy monster from my GY, except itself." She pulled Darklord Ixchel's card out of her GY. "Come, Darklord Ixchel!" After Shizuka placed Darklord Ixchel's card on her duel disk, a dark-haired fairy with a red halo above her head, with black wings, and wearing a white dress appeared (Darklord Ixchel, Level 10 DARK Fairy-type monster, ATK/DEF: 2500/2900. Shizuka's hand: 5 cards. Shizuka's LP: 4000. Yami's hand: 3 cards. Yami's LP: 4000.)
"Looks like she's getting a pace." Fire remarked.
"Yes she is." Kisara smiled.
"She also has enough damage to beat Yugi." Mokuba pointed out. "Gazelle's 1500 ATK plus Ixchel's 2500 ATK is exactly 4000 damage."
"But he has 2 facedowns he can use to counter." Fire reminded Mokuba.
"True." Mokuba admitted. "But at the same time, Shizuka can't play too cautiously either."
"In other words, it's all a battle of who can out maneuver who." Otogi replied.
"Right." Kisara nodded before frowning. "There's just 1 problem though. Yugi has more experience in this game than Shizuka."
"But it's clear she's a fast learner. Given how she's playing her turn so far." Fire said.
"What to do now?" Shizuka wondered aloud as she looked at her hand. "Hmm… Come on, think." She looked at her hand again and saw Darklord Morningstar in her hand. "Perfect. But first." She thrusted her right hand forward. "Battle! Darklord Ixchel, attack Yugi directly!" Ixchel raised her right hand up and charged up a beam of energy, which she then fired at Yami.
Do you want to stop her attack? Yugi asked Yami. Yami glanced at Yugi, then back at the attack and Shizuka.
"This won't stop her attacks but it will soften the blows." Yami remarked as he gestured to his set card. "I activate the Trap card, Damage Diet! Now for the rest of the turn, all damage to me is halved!" Ixchel's attack connected, making Yami tsk. (Yami's LP: 4000 - 1250 = 2750. Shizuka's hand: 5 cards. Shizuka's LP: 4000. Yami's hand: 3 cards. Yami's LP: 2750.)
"Maybe." Shizuka agreed. "But I'll continue my attack! Go Gazelle!" The brown-haired beast leapt at Yami and slashed him with his holographic claw. (Yami's LP: 2750 - 750 = 2000. Shizuka's hand: 5 cards. Shizuka's LP: 4000. Yami's hand: 3 cards. Yami's LP: 2000.)
"He'll still take damage. But with this, he won't be out of the duel." Fire hummed.
"Right." Mokuba nodded.
"During Main Phase 2, I Tribute your Gazelle the King of Mythical Beasts and my Darklord Superbia in order to Tribute Summon Darklord Morningstar!" Shizuka announced. Both monsters shattered to make room for the first Fallen Angel to make his appearance onto the field. He wore black armor and had a red halo hovering above his head. (Darklord Morningstar, Level 11 DARK Fairy-type monster, ATK/DEF: 3000. Shizuka's hand: 4 cards. Shizuka's LP: 4000. Yami's hand: 3 cards. Yami's LP: 2000.)
"Oi this guy." Fire groaned, recalling Morningstar.
"We faced this guy's evolved form." Kisara told Fire. "This is the Main Deck version. Weaker in Level and stats." She then frowned. "But it has a very strong effect regardless."
"Morningstar's effect!" Shizuka continued. "I send the top cards of my Deck for each Darklord monster on my field. And if any Darklord cards were sent to the GY via this effect, I gain 500 LP for each one!" She took the top 2 cards of her Deck and sent them to the GY. Both were Darklord cards. "Capricious Darklord and Darklord Nergal. So I gain 1000 LP." (Shizuka's LP: 4000 + 1000 = 5000. Shizuka's hand: 4 cards. Shizuka's LP: 5000. Yami's hand: 3 cards. Yami's LP: 2000.) She then grabbed another card from her hand.
"I now activate Card Destruction!" Shizuka continued. "We both send our hands to the GY, then we draw the same amount we sent away!"
"That means we each draw 3 cards." Yami spoke as he and Shizuka sent their 3 card hands to the GY, then drew 3 more cards. Shizuka nodded at her hand before grabbing 1 card from it and setting it.

"Using Morningstar's effect to regain LP was a good call." Fire remarked.
"What do you mean?" Anzu asked curiously.
"Darklord Ixchel has a Quick Effect that by paying 1000 LP, Shizuka can use the effect of a Darklord Spell or Trap in her GY, then add that card back in her Deck." Fire explained. "And it won't be that much of a cost thanks to Morningstar's effect of replenishing LP." Kisara nodded, smiling.
"She's not being shy and timid right now either." Kisara noted. "Meaning she's putting all of her focus into this duel."
"Meaning Yami better take off the kid gloves." Fire chuckled.
"I heard that." Yami laughed before turning his attention back to Shizuka. "That was quite the turn, Shizuka."
"But Karen's right, you know." Shizuka pointed out. "Let's pretend for a second you are facing my brother and not me. Would he want you going easy on him?"
"No way." Fire, Anzu, and Honda replied.
"Huh." Kisara spoke softly. "Didn't think she'd use that card."
"Yeah." Mokuba agreed. Yami looked surprised while Yugi gave a small smile looking at his other self.
Well Mou Hitori no Boku? What do you wanna do? He asked.
"She's being serious." Yami remarked before smiling. "I say we do the same."
Sounds like a plan. Yugi smiled.
"Here I go Shizuka!" Yami declared. "My turn, draw!" (Shizuka's hand: 2 cards. Shizuka's LP: 5000. Yami's hand: 4 cards. Yami's LP: 2000.) Yami looked at his hand and smiled.
"I have to thank you for playing Card Destruction earlier." Yami told Shizuka.
"Ehh? What do you mean?" Shizuka questioned.
Looks like Yami has a plan. Karen smiled.
Yeah. Fire agreed with a nod.
"I activate Monster Reborn to bring Queen's Knight from my GY!" Yami declared. A red armored female knight with long blonde hair holding a sword appeared onto Yami's field. (Queen's Knight, Level 4 LIGHT Warrior-type monster, ATK/DEF: 1500/1200. Shizuka's hand: 2 cards. Shizuka's LP: 5000. Yami's hand: 3 cards. Yami's LP: 2000.)
"Queen's Knight must have been sent to your GY, after I played Card Destruction." Shizuka noted.
"Queen's Knight…! Now I see." Fire gasped in realization.
"Next I Normal Summon King's Knight!" Yami continued, placing said card onto his duel disk; next to Queen's Knight's card. Like Queen's Knight, King's Knight had blonde hair and a beard, wearing orange armor and wielding a sword. (King's Knight, Level 4 LIGHT Warrior-type monster, ATK/DEF: 1600/1400. Shizuka's hand: 2 cards. Shizuka's LP: 5000. Yami's hand: 2 cards. Yami's LP: 2000.)
"And it has an effect too." Fire stated.
"King's Knight's effect!" Yami continued. "Since I control it and Queen's Knight, I can Special Summon Jack's Knight from my Deck!" Next to Queen's Knight appeared a blue armored warrior. (Jack's Knight, Level 5 LIGHT Warrior-type monster, ATK/DEF: 1900/1000. Shizuka's hand: 2 cards. Shizuka's LP: 5000. Yami's hand: 2 cards. Yami's LP: 2000.)
"Queen, King, and Jack's Knight. A 3 monster Summoning combo." Otogi remarked.
If Yami is planning to Summon what I think he's Summoning… Fire thought.
My monsters aren't strong enough to get past Shizuka's. Yami thought. So for now…

"I may be new to this game, but I'm not an idiot." Shizuka remarked as she drew her card. "Because you ended your turn with no cards in hand, I'll clear your field before you even get the chance for something big, Yugi."
"What is she talking about?" Honda wondered aloud.
"There's no way she'd know about Yugi possessing Osiris." Kisara frowned before her blue eyes widened. "Unless Marik told her that he had Osiris when she was brainwashed by Marik and she remembered that detail…..!"
"That's right. Not only that, but that Summoning combo is a perfect combo in Summoning God. But the problem lies in Osiris's ability." Fire frowned.
"Osiris's ability?" Anzu asked, confused.
"Osiris's ATK is equal to the number of cards in the Duelist's hand x1000. In order to beat Shizuka's monsters with Osiris, Yami would need at least 4 cards in his hand." Fire explained.
"And right now Yugi has 0 cards in his hand." Mokuba frowned deeply. "But I don't think that's what Shizuka was trying to say."
"Wait!" Kisara spoke in realization. "Remember what she said? She said that she'll clear his field before he can even Summon Osiris."
"So she's gonna get rid of all his monsters and set cards?" Honda questioned.
"That appears to be her plan, yes." Kisara remarked.
"And given she has Morningstar and Ixchel in her field, it might not be far off." Fire frowned.
Along with what cards she has in her GY. Karen added.
It'll all come down to what Yami and Shizuka will do. Fire agreed. Shizuka grabbed a card from her hand.
"I activate Monster Reborn to revive Darklord Superbia from my GY." Shizuka began; the large-winged fairy reappearing on her field, followed by the GY portal opening up in front of her. "And when Superbia is Special Summoned from the GY, I can revive a Fairy monster from my GY, except itself. So come out, Darklord Nergal!" A black-skinned and muscular fallen angel with a red halo above his head appeared onto Shizuka's field next to Superbia. (Darklord Nergal, Level 8 DARK Fairy-type monster, ATK/DEF: 2700/2500. Shizuka's hand: 2 cards. Shizuka's LP: 5000. Yami's hand: 0 cards. Yami's LP: 2000.) Shizuka looked back at Yami. A solemn expression on her face.
"I'm sorry Yugi. But this is where our duel ends." She told him. Kisara glanced over at Fire.
"You think she's going for what we faced from that Rare Hunter Darklord user?" Kisara questioned.
"Given her attack formation…" Fire muttered thoughtfully.
"But will she go to gain more LP Darklord Morningstar's effect? Or just Summon it right away?" Kisara asked.
"Uhh...what are you 2 talking about? What do you mean by it?" Honda asked.
"Yeah, you got me curious too." Anzu added.
"If she does Summon that card, then she will make good of her words." Fire frowned.
"Don't leave us in suspense!" Mokuba groaned.
What do you think Shizuka is talking about? Yugi asked Yami. Does she really have a card that can defeat us in 1 turn?
To do so she would have to have a card that could wipe away our as she said. Yami said, looking at Shizuka's field. On her field are Darklords Nergal, Superbia, Ixchel, and Morningstar…! Wait, Morningstar the leader of the Darklords, fallen angels…! That's it! A Darklord that could defeat us…!
Ehhh? But it's already on the field. Yugi pointed out. Unless you mean its something in her Extra Deck. Hmm? Her Extra Deck? Yugi's eyes widened. So that's what you were referring to then….!
"For safety precautions, I activate Darklord Morningstar's effect first!" Shizuka continued as she grabbed the top 4 cards of her Deck and sent them to the GY. The cards that were sent were: Darklord Descent, Darklord Superbia, Archlord Kristya, and Darklord Ixchel. "Since 3 of them were Darklord cards, I gain 1500 LP." (Shizuka's LP: 5000 + 1500 = 6500. Shizuka's hand: 2 cards. Shizuka's LP: 6500. Yami's hand: 0 cards. Yami's LP: 2000.) After that, she thrusted her right hand forward as she grabbed a card that ejected out of her GY.
"And now I activate the Trap card that will end this duel! Darklord Uprising!" Shizuka declared.
"That card?!" Kisara gaped. "That was the very first card that hit her GY!"
"But thanks to Ixchel and Nergal, she's able to activate it." Fire frowned. "This was her plan from the get go. To get that monster onto the field."
"What monster?!" The others questioned. On the other side of the duel arena, Marik and Rishid were watching the duel closely. Marik had a satisfied look on his face as Yami was pushed even further into a corner by a newbie duelist.
"Heh heh heh…. This couldn't have worked out better for us, Rishid." Marik grinned. "Once Shizuka defeats the Pharaoh, she'll have Osiris. Once that happens, obtaining it from her will be a simple task. After that…...I'll personally defeat the Pharaoh. Once that's done, all of his power will be mine!"
"But of course Marik-sama." Rishid nodded in agreement.
"By paying 1000 LP thanks to Darklord Ixchel, I can apply Darklord Uprising's effect!" Shizuka continued. "I can perform a Fusion Summon by using monsters from my hand and/or field!"
"Here it comes." Fire frowned.
"I take Darklord Morningstar and Darklord Ixchel from my field, and Indulged Darklord from my hand!" Shizuka announced, placing the 3 cards into her GY. After she did that, the 3 monsters flew into the sky and began to go into the Fusion Portal. Soon thereafter, Shizuka began to chant. "Fallen angel along with your brethren you are now reborn to your beginning descent! Fusion Summon! Level 12! The First Darklord!" Out of the Fusion Portal came out an evolved form of Darklord Morningstar. He had more wings, wielding 2 swords, and his armor was tougher. (The First Darklord, Level 12 DARK Fairy-type Fusion monster, ATK/DEF: 4000. Shizuka's hand: 1 card. Shizuka's LP: 5500. Yami's hand: 0 cards. Yami's LP: 2000.)
"So that's the monster you 2 were talking about.…!" Mokuba breathed.
"It is, yes." Kisara nodded before frowning. "Me and Fire saw its 2nd effect. But I wonder what its 1st effect is….?"
"She said about destroying his…! Wait, that Rare Hunter hadnt used Morningstar as his fusion component…!" Fire gasped. "So that's how!"
"Wait, what do you mean?" Honda questioned.
"If The First Darklord had a powerful destruction effect, that Rare Hunter would've used it, but he didn't. This is why Morningstar had to be used as a component for the Fusion Summon." Fire frowned.
"The First Darklord effect!" Shizuka announced. "When it's Fusion Summoned using Darklord Morningstar as Fusion Material, I can destroy all cards you control, Yugi!"
"I knew it!" Fire groaned.
"But if that happens, Yugi's field will be empty!" Anzu gasped. Yami tched.
"I activate Reckless Greed!" Yami declared. "I draw 2 cards!" He did so.
But that doesn't save our field! Yugi pointed out.
If they don't do something….! Karen gasped.
Yami… Fire thought with a frown. The First Darklord swung its 2 swords to form an X slash on Yami's side of the field; thus shattering his cards into pieces.
"Oh no!" Anzu gaped. Marik just chuckled darkly to himself as he watched.
"Yes! Just one more turn and victory will be hers!" Marik laughed. "And the Pharaoh will be out of my way for good!" His lips formed a dark smile. "Even with Shizuka no longer under my control, she's still doing me a favor."
"His field is empty. If she attacks him directly, it's over." Otogi frowned.
"But due to the Fusion monster rule, they can't attack on the turn they're Summoned." Kisara pointed out before she frowned. "Unless she has a card or a card effect that allows her to attack with a Fusion monster on the same it was Summoned."
"Quick Attack." Fire voiced. "If she has that, it's over." Shizuka grabbed the card in her hand and played it.
"I activate Pot of Greed." She spoke as she drew 2 cards. Afterwards, she looked at the cards she drew. Her eyes widened slightly, then she looked back up at Yami. "I'm sorry Yugi, but I have to win this. For Jonounchi."
"Shizuka…" Fire frowned.
"She's really serious about this, huh…" Yugi's spirit appeared next to Yami, a frown on his face.
Yeah… Yami agreed with a frown.
"So what should we do?" Yugi asked. "If we lose to Shizuka, we not not only lose our chance to face Marik, but we also lose Slifer the Sky Dragon."
As much as I wish to allow Shizuka to do this, I have to battle Marik and gain my lost memories. Yami thought. Shizuka then grabbed a card from her hand and played it.
"I activate the Spell card, Quick Attack! This will let The First Darklord attack during this turn!" Shizuka explained.
"It's all over!" Mokuba gasped. Shizuka thrusted her right hand forward.
"Battle! The First Darklord, attack Yugi directly!" Shizuka announced. They all gasped as The First Darklord flew, raising his swords to slash Yugi in an X formation. However…
"I activate Kuriboh's effect!" Yami spoke. "By discarding it, I take 0 damage from this battle!" A barrier of Kuribohs appeared in front of Yami to take the slashes for him.
"E-Ehh?!" Shizuka gaped.
"Nice try, Shizuka." Yami grinned.
He blocked it! Karen gasped.
"I...end my turn." Shizuka spoke softly. (Shizuka's hand: 1 card. Shizuka's LP: 5500. Yami's hand: 1 card. Yami's LP: 2000.) She then spoke up and added. "But because you played Reckless Greed, you can't draw for the next 2 Draw Phases."
The last card in Yami's hand is his last shot now… Fire frowned.
"This is true." Yami agreed. "But the last card in my hand will ensure that I win on this upcoming turn. My turn!" (Shizuka's hand: 1 card. Shizuka's LP: 5500. Yami's hand: 1 card. Yami's LP: 2000.) Yami took the last card in his hand and revealed it.
"I activate the Spell card, Card of Sanctity!" Yami announced. "Now we both draw until we hold 6 cards in our hands!"
"That'll give him a hand, but even so." Otogi frowned.
"It gives Shizuka more cards to work with too." Kisara added, frowning as well. Both Yamii and Shizuka drew 6 and 5 cards respectively from their Decks. After Yami drew, he looked at his hand and gaped.
Oh no! Yami spoke mentally to Yugi.
"What's wr-Oh!" Yugi gaped in surprise. "Yami, we can't use Osiris against Shizuka! It's power could kill her!"
"Oh I know that look…" Fire muttered.
You don't think they drew Osiris, do you? Karen remarked worriedly.
I'm sure they did. And given the circumstances, it might be their only chance in winning. Fire thought with a grimace. (Shizuka's hand: 6 cards. Shizuka's LP: 5500. Yami's hand: 6 cards. Yami's LP: 2000.)
We have no choice, Yugi. Yami frowned deeply. We have to Summon Osiris if we are to win the duel.
"But Shizuka could be hurt or worse!" Yugi countered.
Remember what she said, Aibou. Yami thought to his other self. If this were a duel against Jonouchi-kun, we wouldn't hold back, even if using a God Card. He would find it an insult. And it would be the same for Shizuka.
"But!" Yugi spoke out before sighing in defeat. "Alright. But I do not approve of this at all."
I know Aibou. Yami thought with a small smile.
"Wait! So long as it's not a direct attack, Shizuka should be fine, right?" Yugi wondered.
That's the idea. Shizuka's monsters should block most of the impact. Yami nodded.
"Alright." Yugi nodded before frowning. "But there's one problem. How do you plan to Summon Osiris?"
By banishing the 3 Knights from my GY. Yami thought back as he grabbed a card from his hand.
"I activate the Spell, Different Dimension Tribute!" Yami declared. "During this turn, if I'd Tribute Summon a monster(s), I can banish monsters from my GY to Tribute Summon, in addition to using monsters on my field!"
"True." Shizuka admitted. "But playing that card cost you half your LP."
"I know." Yami replied as his LP fell to 1000. "But that wouldn't matter soon enough. I banish King's, Queen's, and Jack's Knight from my GY in order to Tribute Summon this!" Yami raised a card above his head; thunder and lightning crackled through the sky. Soon thereafter, Yami placed Osiris's card on his duel disk. "Come out, Osiris the Heaven Dragon!" A red energy came down from the sky and morphed into the large dragon. Said God Card roared at Shizuka, who braced herself. (Osiris the Heaven Dragon, Level 10 DIVINE Divine-Beast-type monster, ATK/DEF: 5000. Shizuka's hand: 6 cards. Shizuka's LP: 5500. Yami's hand: 5 cards. Yami's LP: 1000.)
"Wh-What the heck?!" Honda gaped.
"Osiris…!" Fire gasped. After the wind died down, Shizuka lowered her arms from her face; tching.
"Even if I'm up against a God Card, I can still win…!" Shizuka breathed. "This win may be out of selfishness, but I have to win! For Jonouchi! Even if he was facing a God Card, he wouldn't give up either, right?!"
"Gotta say I'm impressed with Shizuka." Fire remarked to Kisara.
"Yeah." Kisara nodded, smiling. "It's as if Jonouchi's willpower has transferred to Shizuka."
"What?! No!" Marik gnashed his teeth in frustration. "Shizuka is supposed to win! Not the Pharaoh! Grah!"
"Even though you have Summoned Osiris, you don't have nearly enough ATK to defeat me in 1 turn." Shizuka pointed out. "And even if you destroy The First Darklord, I'll still have plenty of LP and monsters left to defend myself."
"She does have a point." Mokuba said.
"True." Kisara agreed.
"What's the plan now Yami?" Yugi asked. "Shizuka's right. If we just attack and destroy The First Darklord, she'll still have 4500 LP remaining. If we don't win now, then she will win on her next turn." Yugi paused, then added. "On top of that, we have no idea what her face-down card could be." Yami glanced at Yugi, then back at his hand. His purple eyes widened.
"I got it!" Yami spoke as he grabbed a card from his hand and opened up the Field Spell Zone of his duel disk. "I activate the Field Spell, Vortex Field!" A vortex soon appeared to cover the duel arena in what appeared to be...well, a vortex. (Shizuka's hand: 6 cards. Shizuka's LP: 5500. Yami's hand: 4 cards. Yami's LP: 1000.) Mokuba, and Kisara put their arms to their faces to shield themselves from the winds.
"What card is that?" Mokuba questioned.
"A new field spell?" Fire wondered.
"I think… I think it's meant to help Osiris." Kisara noted.
"Even so." Shizuka began after the winds died down so everyone on the sidelines could still watch the duel. "Now Osiris is on par with The First Darklord in terms of ATK and DEF points. How do you plan to win, Yugi?" Yami just grinned.
"Oh, I have a plan to make that happen." Yami replied, voice filled with confidence.
He does? Karen blinked.
Let's see. Fire remarked.
"I activate Vortex Field's effect." Yami continued. "Now by paying half my LP, I can destroy all other Spell/Traps on the field, then I draw 1 card for each of them."
"Eh? But the only one with a set Spell/Trap is Shizuka." Kisara noted before her light blue eyes widened. "Unless..!"
"If I destroy 2 or less cards with this effect, Osiris gains an extra 1000 ATK/DEF!" Yami grinned as he drew 1 card, and Slifer's ATK/DEF rose to 6000. (Shizuka's hand: 6 cards. Shizuka's LP: 5500. Yami's hand: 5 cards. Yami's LP: 500.) Shizuka looked at Vortex Field's full effects. Her lips formed a sad smile.
"Even if I used my Trap card, it'd just make Osiris stronger. Plus you get double damage and can attack all of my monsters, once each." Shizuka remarked. "On top of that, Vortex Field's final effect allows any monster you control to gain ATK equal to half the difference in our LP. SInce you have 500 to my 5500 LP, that means Osiris gains an extra 2500 ATK. 8500 - 4500 * 2 = 9000 damage."
"True." Yami nodded. "However, Vortex Field is extremely risky. If I fail to defeat you this turn, at my End Phase, I have to send my entire hand to the GY, or destroy the card. And if I end up having no cards in my hand to send to the GY, then it's automatically destroyed."
"A risky gamble." Fire muttered with a strained smile.
"True." Mokuba agreed. "Except Shizuka already confirmed that it's over, even if she plays her set card."
"Go on, Yugi." Shizuka beckoned.
"Alright. But before I do, allow me to say this." Yami spoke. "Despite being a beginner this duel was a tremendous one Shizuka. And I know Jonouchi-kun would be proud of you." Shizuka's lips formed a light smile.
"Really?" Shizuka asked.
"Absolutely." Yami nodded with a smile.
"Thank you Yugi." Shizuka replied. "Now, go ahead and attack."
"Right. Go Osiris! Attack the First Darklord! Thunder Force!" Yami yelled. Slifer opened its mouth and fired a lightning blast at The First Darklord. The Fusion monster cried out as the lightning blast went through his body before exploding. Shizuka put her arms to her face to shield herself. The shockwave pushed her back to the edge of the duel arena. (Shizuka's LP: 5500 - 9000 = 0.)
"The winner, Yugi Muto!" Isono announced.
"Well that was nerve wracking." Fire chuckled lightly.
"But also fun to watch." Kisara smiled.
"I agree." Mokuba nodded.
We did it. Yugi breathed, relieved.
Yes, we did. Yami replied. Despite Shizuka still being a beginner, she put up quite the fight against us.
She wanted to live up to Jonouchi-kun's will. Yugi said with a soft smile. Yami chuckled.
And if Jounouchi-kun were here right now, I believe he'd give her an A+.
Agreed. Yugi nodded. Shizuka got off the field with a soft sigh as the others went to her.
"That was an awesome duel Shizuka." Otogi smiled.
"You were amazing!" Anzu added with a smile.
"You really showed your stuff." Fire nodded.
"Thanks." Shizuka spoke softly before smiling. "But even though I'm disappointed that I lost, I ultimately don't mind that I lost that duel."
"You dueled with honor and pride as a Duelist. Your brother would be proud; just as Yami said." Fire said. Shizuka smiled as Isono spoke up.
"There will be a few moments before the final match begins for our last 2 Duelists, Rishid Ishtar and Karen Yamamoto." He announced. "Duelists, take this time to finalize your Decks."
So it's finally our turn and our opponent… Fire thought, glancing across. Rishid was looking over his Deck, Marik standing next to him.
"I was hoping little Shizuka would defeat Yami, but no matter." Marik mused as he glanced in Karen's direction, his lips forming a dark smile. "Getting rid of the Pharaoh's precious Guardian will be just as good."
Fire we have to be careful and remember. Karen began.
Don't worry. I remember our promise with Ishizu. I ain't gonna hurt him. Fire replied lightly, looking through her cards.
"Fire." Fire looked up to see Yami walking to her as she inserted her deck in her duel disk.
"Yes Yami?" She asked.
"Be careful. Given that Duelist came with Marik here, it must mean he is his strongest Rare Hunter." Yami warned.
"I know; don't worry. I'll be careful." She assured with a light smile, giving a mock bow. "I will be back soon, my pharaoh."
With that Fire went off as Yami watched her she leaped on the field, waiting quietly, arms crossed.
"It's time. Go Rishid, defeat the Pharaoh's Guardian." Marik told him.
"Yes Marik-sama." Rishid nodded. Rishid soon stepped onto the field as Fire glanced up at him.
"Last match of the Battle City tournament! Karen Yamamoto vs Rishid Ishtar!" Isono announced. "Begin!"
"DUEL!"
