Chloe's POV:
After sleeping and lounging all yesterday with Quil we woke up bright an early to a guy looking to fix our heating system. I was partially relieved as it really did get pretty freezing late at night, but it was also an excuse to cuddle closer to Quil. I don't think I would have accomplished much if the guy hadn't come though. Plus it was getting a little too heated too fast, not like I didn't enjoy every second of it. Quil has been blowing my damn mind lately, I don't half believe he isn't all that experienced. He's delicious in bed. I also feel all giddy with butterflies when we cuddle, but I don't want to get ahead of myself.
Yes things are going good, but will they always?
I want to give into the feeling that yes, everything will be amazing all the time with Quil. He'll never look at another girl again. He'll always been this sweet and caring towards me. He likes me because it's me and not because some Taha Aki guy is forcing it. This wolf stuff isn't a huge deal.
Who am I to know though? What if I really let myself enjoy Quil and then something bad happens?
Either way I decided the guy coming was a sign so I got myself out of Quil's room and took a hot shower and started my day. Luckily I got a text from Bella asking me to meet up with her at her place, which I happily accepted. Ever since the Leah drama I was worried about Bella, but also lowkey very preoccupied with Quil, so either way I need to check in on her.
I'm just about ready to leave when there's a gentle knock at my door and Quil peaks his head in. "What's up?" I ask softly, lacing my sneakers. It's cold as hell outside so I'm looking pretty standard, mostly dressed for warmth rather than cuteness. Not like Bella cares.
"I wanted to see what you're up to." He push my door open further, leaning his side against the doorway. He's nearly as tall as the door frame I notice. He's really built and I don't think I take enough time to enjoy his appearance, but I would also probably give him a ridiculous ego if I said out loud half the things I think of. Actually I know I would.
I finish tying my shoe and stand to my feet, collecting my bag. "I'm going to Bella's for a bit, what about you?"
I sling my back over my shoulder and turn to find him now incredibly close to me. So close that I stumble back a step, nearly tripping over a rogue shoe on the ground, but his warm hand places firmly on my lower back to hold me upright. A grin rises to his cheeks and he chuckles a little bit. "Nervous?" He says in a husky, sex-ridden voice. I roll my eyes, despite having instant second doubts about leaving to hang with Bella.
"Yeah right." I snort unpleasantly, placing a hand on his chest to shove him but he keeps firm ground. His hand that lays on my back starts moving and soon both of his hands are placed on my hips, rubbing sensual circles, his fingers treading over my butt only for a moment before retreating.
He inhales deeply which only sends a hot blush to my whole body, but I can't seem to move away. "I already miss having you in my bed." He mutters, his hands roaming freely, gripping my ass firmly before moving lower, running up my thighs. Everywhere he touches I feel burning hot.
Yeah Bella's really doesn't sound all that appealing suddenly.
"Can I convince you to stay a little longer?" He asks, a sneaky smirk rising to his lips. It's hard to keep eye contact with him, I feel unnaturally seen like he can read my thoughts, but I don't want to look away and give him the power. I hate giving Quil the power, old habits I guess. So I hold his gaze, even if it feels like I'm a prey caught in his net. I try real hard to not let my body react, but my heart rate changes with every change in his touch.
"I have to go." My voice wobbles and I swallow. "I'm busy." I say a little more firmly.
He only tugs me closer, planting me firmly against his chest as my hands smack against him to hold myself upright. His hand move to my ass, only to move further down and cup my pussy from behind through my leggings. A shocked gasp escapes me and when his lips find my ear I'm nearly putty. "How about now? Still busy?" He practically purrs his words, his teeth delicately scraping the shell of my ear.
Hot and bothered doesn't begin to describe it.
My legs clamp around his hand and my hips unvoluntarily rock in a desperate fashion in search of pressure. He chuckles lowly right in my ear, sending a shiver through my body. There's the goosebumps again.
"How about I make you cum real quick before you leave?" He husks, trailing kisses around my neck. My nipples ache underneath my oversized hoodie and my pussy throbs at the idea.
Yeah, that's a good idea.
I whimper, as if to answer him, and in an instant he's lifting me from the ground. My legs wrap around his waist instinctively and my arms around his neck. My face is just inches from his and my lips part, ready to devour him when a noise startles us apart. Quil drops me to my feet, but doesn't allow me to fall as he holds onto my sides tightly. Our faces turn towards the door where Embry stands, he had cleared his throat to get our attention.
"We have a shift." He says crankily at Quil, looking tired of us both.
I quickly smooth out my clothes and collect my bag that I dropped at some point before rushing out of my room, skimming past Embry in search of the front door. I hear yelling as I tug the front door shut behind me and rush off to my car. The cool, fresh air feels like a bucket of lake water, calming me down from my over sexed brain. My body feels like it's in a damn frenzy, I'm never like this. This exceeds pre-teen horny-ness by fair. I feel like I can't control myself, only Quil can seem to have such an impact on me.
I glide into my car and let out a breath of relief, tilting my head on the back of the seat for a moment. I close my eyes and let out a breath before my car door goes flying open, making me jolt up in fear. Quil stands at my passenger seat, chuckling, before climbing in. "I thought you had a shift?" I squeal, my heart pounding so heart I can nearly hear it.
He nods, pulling on his seat belt. "Yeah, but you clearly forgot the rule about not going to Forks. Yanno, knew vampire clan and all?" He raises an eyebrow at me. Okay, yeah I forgot. My brain is like scrambled eggs these days though. "I'll go for the drive and jog back for my shift." He says casually.
Still I'm recovering from the scare. "Well why don't I just ask her to meet me?" I say absently trying to find my phone in my mess of a car. I really need to clean it sometime.
"Nervous being alone with me?" My eyes rise to him, seeing that familiar smirk.
I roll my eyes and scoff, forgetting about my phone. "Not at all." I grumble, putting the car in reverse, pulling out of the driveway. It's silent for maybe five seconds before Quil starts hitting my radio, smashing random buttons until a song he likes starts playing.
"So I was thinking-"
"You do that." I tease.
He just scoffs. "I was thinking maybe we look into getting our own little place." He says all too casually for me.
Our own place? We haven't even been on a proper date. I haven't even accepted this whole imprint thing yet, I'm still just warming up to it. We didn't even have sex yet actually, which should probably come first, I mean what if it's bad? Okay, so it won't be bad, but still.
"Are you crazy?" I laugh lightly out of shock. "That's moving way too fast Quil." I shake my head in disbelief.
"How is it too fast?" He stays calm. I peak over at him but he's just casually looking at the road ahead, looking calm as a clam.
I scoff, "Because we aren't official. Because we haven't even had sex-"
Instantly his warm hand places firmly on my thigh, rubbing up and down. "I will gladly say fuck this shift and take you back to the house, Embry's already gone so-"
"Quil! I'm being serious." I huff, shoving his hand away from me.
This is what drives me nuts about Quil, he can never be serious. He always messes around and tries to be funny, even when it's a serious conversation. I can't imagine going on with life always dealing with him goofing off.
"So am I." He says in a serious voice. "And I still mean what I said about giving you an orgasm before you go to Bella, we can pull over-" I let out an aggravated groan, shutting him up. "Alright, I'm sorry. I'm just saying it's annoying having Embry walk in on every private moment between us. I would like for us to figure this out on our own terms is all."
There's those damn butterflies, always bugging me.
"We can just make some ground rules with Embry, we don't want to screw him out of a place." I make a valid point, because he just nods quietly. Embry has been a bit of a cock block once or twice, but honestly maybe we need that buffer. Otherwise I'd probably be legs spread open on my back in bed right now instead of pulling up to Bella's house. I park in her driveway next to Charlie's truck and put the car in park.
"Be careful, don't leave til I'm back." He says firmly as we get out of the car. He does a quick look around the area before jogging towards the woods surrounding her house as I make my way to the front door. I knock once and the door flies open, revealing Bella with an excited smile.
Yup, I needed this girl time. Although Bella is all "make it official" when it comes to Quil and I, she still listens to my concerns and validates them. She fully supports me in moving slow and taking things one day at a time, which I really need for my own sanity.
Her life's a bit of a mess too. Edward has been pining over her ever since she's stopped talking to him since the Rosalie and Quil thing. She also has Jake making googly eyes at her and she has no idea what to do about it. Clearly it pisses of Leah, for whatever reason, but also Jake's super hot and she wants to get with him. Though that will upset Edward and she doesn't know if she still wants to give him a chance.
So easy to say her life's not so easy either. I also don't know how to help because Jake's my good friend and Edward's a blood sucking human killer. Edward's also very sweet and loving towards Bella, and Bella clearly likes him. Plus I used to consider Leah as a friend and clearly she's hurting over Jake's googly eyes at Bella.
"I think love is just a mess." I declare, plucking another handful of popcorn from the bowl. She's put on some old rom-com movies but we haven't really been paying attention. It's been a few hours since I arrived and it's now starting to get dark out. Charlie's working another double shift, poor guy, dealing with all the new murder cases in the area. Jake's already made Bella aware of the situation with that, so she's keeping safe too. God knows Jake's checking in on her house every now and again to make sure nothings going on, and I wouldn't be shocked if Edward's doing the same.
"I think so too, shouldn't it be fun?" She groans, heaving herself up from the couch to head into the kitchen. "Want another drink?" I shake my head and she begins to rummage through the fridge.
A gentle knock sounds at the door and Bella squeal in delight. "Oh good, the pizza!" She grabs her purse from the kitchen table and walks off to the front door. I grab my phone from the coffee table and check to see if I got any texts. Sure enough Kim's complaining about her car, again, apparently it has to go to the shop for its breaks again. Poor Kim's been dealing with that car forever.
I hear the door shut and I finish off my text to Kim, turning over my shoulder expecting to see Bella, but I don't. "Need help carrying it?" I call out, pausing to hear her. She says nothing.
I frown, standing up from the couch, peering over at the front door but she's not there. Weird. "Bells?" I call out, pausing again.
When I hear nothing my heart starts to raise and my mind goes to the worst places of fear and worry. Quietly I make my way over to the kitchen, grabbing a knife from Charlie's collection, holding it so tightly in my fist that it hurts to hold. I quickly glance behind me, but nothings there. "Bells?" I call again, my voice more wobbly than before, but again there's nothing.
I hear a creak sound from upstairs and my neck snaps towards the couch where my phone lies. I quickly start making my way to it only to feel something ice cold grip onto my wrist. The person's pale hand is so tight on my wrist it feels like it might be crushed and when another hand wraps around me, ripping the knife from my hand I scream in fear. It's blood curdling and it frightens me even more than the presence touching me for a moment.
The person lets go and I jump around, coming face to face with a man I've never seen before.
He's handsome but his eyes are deeply red and his skin is paler than normal. He gives me a confident smile, "Pardon my reach." He says confidently, toying with the knife that's now in his hand. His fingers toy with the blade, clearly not afraid of hurting himself on the sharp edge. "I didn't want you hurting yourself." He points the knife at me as he speaks.
"Who are you?" I say, my hands shaking in fear at my sides. I feel struck by fear, worse than I've ever felt before. Still I don't run or scream, I just stand before him like a statue. It feels like my feet are glued to the floor beneath me and I can't break my eyes from the man before me, although that part is probably good.
Vampires are quick and catlike, they move silently and quickly. I can blink and he'll have that knife in my throat.
"The names James. I know Bella, but I don't know you. I expected her to be alone." His voice is almost like a purr, so smooth and low.
My mind seems to thaw and I remember Bella. "Where is she?" I speak up, sounding more powerful this time only I feel even more scared.
His lips just curl in a half smile and he shrugs his broad shoulders. "She went away, although maybe you can join her. You're not as fun though, just an easy snack I think." He slowly makes a step closer to me, only for me to step back. We continue making like this til the back of my leg hits the couch and I'm trapped just about two feet away from James. He neck turns slightly as if he sees me as prey. "Tell me why I shouldn't kill you right now." He points the knife at me, before dropping it to the floor and kicking it away.
My breath begins to come out in pants as he moves one step closer. I can feel my heart pounding in my ears and my hands shake profusely at my sides. "I have no reason, kill me if you want, but you'll be fucked after." I spit out the words, raising a hand to push against his chest when he moves inches closer. Just like Quil, he doesn't budge.
His smile doesn't falter. "Now see, that's a reason then doll. Who are your friends, hm?" His icy fingers stroke over my cheek and I turn my head, grimacing at his touch. My whole body feels cold from the little touch, like I've been struck by ice.
Before I can speak, in a flash James is thrown across the room and is being tackled by another man. My heart leaps in my chest, half expecting Quil, but it's not. It's Edward, I can tell by his light skin and golden brown hair. His face snaps to me, "Go to the car, Alice will take care of you." Is all he says before he grunts, picking James up by the shirt, throwing him across the room again. I hear a shatter of glass as the two men fight.
I do as told, rushing out of the house on legs that feel like jelly. I feel overly aware, constantly checking over my shoulder until I'm outside. I find a car with the headlights on in the driveway and I pause, unsure of who Alice is. The car honks twice and a girl with a pixie cut peaks her head out the window, motioning me to come. "Come on!" She rushes me.
Putting my trust in Edward I rush to her car and climb into the passenger seat. I mean how bad can a cute girl with a pixie cut be anyways?
I barely shut the door before she's reversing and flying down the road. I'm practically panting and as I sit perfectly still, too scared to move. "I'm Alice, you must be Bella's friend Chloe." Her voice is soft and gentle. She's looking at me but I can't seem to turn and look back at her.
I just nod my head slowly, "That's me." I shiver a little and in an instant her car pushes out warm heat.
"You're safe with me, I'll take you to our house until things get sorted. Did Edward say anything else?" I shake my head. "Alright that's okay, he's got this. He's not gonna let anything happen to Bella." She says it so confidently.
"Who's James and what does he want with Bella?" I manage to say, turning so I can look back at her. The shaking in my hands starts to calm and I feel my heart rate come back down to normal. I let out a breath, trying to relax the best I can.
She shakes her head, turning onto a dirt road. "A vampire looking for a fight. He has his eyes set on Bella, just like he had his eyes set on me a long time ago."
I swallow hard, my mouth feeling dry. "He likes her?"
"He wants to kill her, she's his prey." She corrects me swiftly, turning into a driveway leading to a large house. It's place in the woods but it's beautifully built with lots of windows. I follow her lead out of the car and up to the front door, which she walks right into without hesitation. This must be there house. I do a quick look around, still not feeling quite say. There's a few people around, all of pale skin and read eyes, but none seem to really care I'm here.
A kind looking woman with brown hair approaches us with a smile. "Alice, who's this?" She asks gently, looking me over.
"Bella's friend Chloe. James found them, Edwards dealing with it. Chloe this is Esme, our mother." She motions to the woman with a smile.
Esme nods her head understandingly at me. "You must be frightened. No one here is going to harm you, you're safe." Despite having my guard up I really do feel safe in her presence, maybe it's her motherly tone or her gentle smile, but I don't feel scared. Still I'm on high alert and every time I hear a noise I feel sweat start on my forehead. "So you're friends with Bella? We love her, she's a sweet girl."
I nod slowly, looking around the large home. It's an open and modern build, clearly built to fit plenty of vampires. "Yeah."
"Who's this?" I whip around at the noise of a mans voice, finding a dark haired man with a similar build to the wolves hovering over me. He must be Emmett.
"I'm Chloe, Bella's friend." I manage to speak for myself. "I think I've heard of some of you, you're Emmett. I've heard of Carlisle too." I turn, looking around for the blonde sister. "And Rosalie is the one who hurt Quil."
Emmett chuckles at that and I glance up at him. "That's my girl, she's a feisty one. Quil had it coming, he crossed the border." He shrugs loosely, crossing his arms over his chest. "So you know the wolves, huh?"
"She sure smells like them." Alice comments, but it doesn't come off as rude. I know their noses are strong, just as the wolves are. The boys must have a strong scent to them.
"I'm Quil's imprint." Come to think of it that may be one of the first times I've said that with confidence. The slight teasing about it being his fault he got hurt is making me feel defensive. "And Rosalie shouldn't have done so much damage." I say pointedly, making Esme giggle behind me.
Emmett seems to like my confidence in the matter because he gives me a small smile and a nod. "Touche."
Alice sighs, fluttering past us. "I'll call Sam, he'll want to hear about this." Right, Sam. Oh this is all such a mess. If Edward can't find Bella alone then Jacob is going to lose his mind trying. He's going to be worried sick. Then what if Quil helps out and winds up getting hurt again?
"Can I talk to Sam after you?" I ask quickly, following her into the living room.
She shoots me a smile and brief nod, grabbing her phone from her pocket, dialing the number. Good thing she knows it, I don't have anyone's number saved. It rings twice before I hear Sam's concerned voice on the call. "Yes?"
