Chapter XXIV More Historical Findings
It has been a hectic time for King Dorephan he has been preparing for Sidon's coronation the agreement between the two had run its course. Sidon's six months were up he would begin his coronation upon his return. Ever since Sidon had told the king his intention to propose after introducing Karlovaa to Dorephan he had begun researching the nebulous history of Zora Gerudo couples.
Dorephan has just finished his exhaustive search and he is shocked by his findings. Inspired by his son's new lover the King had combed through his extensive historical records for other gerudo zora pairings he found records of two. Only two in the eons it seemed incredible but even zora Hylian relationships had been rare. Incredulous the monarch had went through the hylian zora marriages to see if any Gerudo were hidden there it bore no fruit. He had then sent a missive to Riju asking for her records and came up completely empty he had not reckoned for the informality of Gerudo marriages since the focus was on procreation the relationships were only recorded under either one of two conditions. Firstly, that a child was born and secondly if the Voe had proven himself in battle. Unrecorded marriages were just as binding but, the male was only deemed worthy of recognition once he had contributed to the ancestral line by either fighting for it or adding to it.
And if Dorephan's theory is correct no male zora would be recorded for in the two cases he had seen there were no children, it was possible that zora and Gerudo could not have offspring. Yet both of the deceased couples could have been barren for other reasons, the first couple was a young male zora thief and a Gerudo criminal. The pair had met escaping from a Hylian jail, yet they had been injured in their escape attempt. Doreaphan only knew this due to Hylian knight records he had searched thoroughly on the suspicion that any romances in jail would have never made it to either his or Riju's records. Honestly, the unlikely couple had fled to sea and may have had ten children for all Dorephan knew. The second couple was from Termina and consisted of an elderly zora in love with an elder former gerudo pirate both could be prevented from childrearing due to age. There were no more records indicating whether zora gerudo couples could have offspring, as a result he is unsure what to tell Sidon. Even the zora medical doctors had been skeptical whether they could determine it, for no one knew why Gerudo babies were only female medically there was no cause for it. For those reasons, the zora doctors were unsure a medical study would reveal anything even female births among zora hylian couples were almost nonexistent. Since Gerudo only had female children The only known fact was that if they could have a child, it would be a gerudo, while zora children were possible in a cross species relationship it never occurred when the male partner was a zora as female Hylian's eggs only result in live births an impossibility for zora children. Or as far as the records went that was the case it was such a small sample size, could a female gerudo be born from such a union? It was an unlikely option but the only one Doreaphan could see. He has his own reason for doubting medical research for the latest historical data, the recently translated song detailing gerudo history blamed the unique reproduction of the gerudo on an ancient curse. The King ponders what to tell Sidon "It does not matter he would just try anyway. He never gives up on anyone and nothing I found is conclusive. I will support them no matter what and he will have plenty of time to remarry to continue the royal line." For some reason the thought he meant as a comforting alternative plan just made him sad, slumping down Doreaphan looks at his surrounding from his cavernous royal hall to the table he uses for guests the vast empty space and thinks of his meeting with Karlovaa. Currently, the hall is devoid of any sound for Baz and Reypha are being oddly quiet this morning, and he realizes why the thought had made him sad so many of his friends were gone Sidon and those he knew of from his son were his only real friends left. The nagging feeling of some forgotten task is flitting around his royal brain refusing to coalesce into something of substance. "Your majesty champion, Dorado." Dorephan acknowledges the champion's entrance the young guppy was walking slowly still unaccustomed to audiences with the king. "Come now Dorado I have told you just pretend I am the mayor, put yourself at ease. Now did you bring what I asked for." His voice slightly higher pitched from curiosity the king waits for a response. "Yes mayor uh your majesty I have my copy of Princess Mipha's diary here as I no longer need it, and I have the response of each ruler and champion for the impending coronation." Setting a small satchel down Dorado withdraws the corresponding item as he mentions it then hands the bundle to his liege. Having received the assortment of papers Dorephan places them on his broad lap "Now I want to have a formal meeting with the other champions before Sidon's arrival while it is customary for the queen to be in attendance, she is busy with the young prince and will not join you, I want to go ahead regardless as it will be the first time the four of you have been together since your appointment became official." Nodding vigorously Dorado adds "That would be perfect your majesty some group training would be beneficial we, need some comradery if we hope to be prepared Princess Mipha's diary made that very clear." Grunting in satisfaction Dorephan is reminded of a certain photo, his mortified daughter had told him about long ago " The champions only work as a unit perhaps you can take a group photo, for morale ah yes that looks to be everything, I wanted to discuss. Tomorrow bring Sidon in immediately following his arrival, and stop him from telling anyone Karlovaa's answer his father should be the first to know. "it would be a nice photo, now back to Karlovaa and Sidon." The feeling that he was forgetting something persists it was about a photo but, he had told Dorado to take one. Surrendering this round to his unreliable memory the King reads the first note from the pile on his lap.
Beneath Hyrule castle two beings with large claws are deep in conversation, having just left a antechamber hidden beneath the castle. "Eh we better get someone down here to take a looksee at it, it gets clearer every day." " Bug off we keep our lips buttoned till the boss says we can tell the red un not before." The owner of the second voice cuffs his companion in the dark ending the short debate.
Meanwhile Lorrue has arrived at a tent in the Gerudo dessert next to a canyon cave she compares two documents a dusty tablet and the copy of the recently composed Gerudo ballad she had transcribed when Uvo was in town, and a second tablet inscribed with writing this was the piece that had inspired her interest in history an item she had found several years ago she thinks back to that day.
I stoop over the latest haul my military uniform hanging off my scrawny teenage frame, I am grimy from the numerous trips my regiment and I have made from the Yiga clan hideout back to town I am removing box after box filled with scrolls of parchment with the occasional book mingled in with the scrolls. I straighten my back, loud cracking protests the movement as I prepare to move the last haul I lift an immensely, heavy, box with a closed lid grumbling for some help bitter about always being assigned the manual tasks while my cohorts had just traversed empty rooms. Then I the lid fly's off the box and it falls to the floor missing my feet by the length of my short dagger in my misery I had gripped it by the top hence the separating lid. Nestled in the crate is a tablet written in several variations of Gerudo as if several people had updated the markings to reflect current language. The latest line still had some words unfamiliar to me I do make out some sort of name reaching down to move the box it falls apart in my hands the impact had shattered the bottom. I hide the box and its contents, so no one notices my blunder. I think to myself "It would be a shame to spoil these markings I wager I could update that last line modernize it." I stow the object and admire some bright yellow diamonds painted onto its surface
That was exactly what she did it was a tablet mentioning a Gerudo mystic rite one that explains the discrepancies mentioned by Uvo in the story. Once outside the wispy Gerudo lights a torch and heads to her canyon cave; a dark object is manifesting there as well a dash of yellow dots decorate the side of the object, resembling the same markings from her tablet. The apparition in the cave is simultaneously ghastly and garish.
Author's note Next week Sidon returns, and we introduce Dorado to the other champions before Sidon's coronation. I finally am beginning to set up the bad guy wooh!
