Within a hidden base, on undiscovered island, Snively Robotnik lands a helicopter on a pad on top of his uncle's building.
"Uncle Ivo." said Snively, stepping out of the helicopter.
"Snively, I thought I was the one who was supposed to visit you." said Robotnik.
"There's been a change of plans. One of our rogues has betrayed us."
"Oh? Well come in, tell me everything about it."
Meanwhile, our heroes ride though the desert heading back towards base. Tensions high, they stayed silent for the long time, until Charmy decided to break the silence.
"So, why do you have two tails?" Charmy asked Tails.
"I was just born with them." answered Tails.
"Foxtrot had them too." said Vector.
"Yeah, he did." smiled Tails, remembering the times he used to have with his cousin.
"I'm sorry." said Vector.
"For... what?" asked Tails.
"For pushing you so hard. It's just... I see potential in you.., kind of like how he saw potential in me."
"What do you mean?" asked Tails.
"When I first enlisted I was a little more aggressive. Foxtrot, for some reason, saw something in me and decided to coach me. Teach me to be a better soldier. One day I ended up falling for this rogue. We started something. But unfortunately that romance didn't last. Foxtrot came to me. I told him everything, he understood. He told me that war isn't just about defeating the enemy. It's about finding peace."
The atmosphere grew silent once again, until Ray spoke up.
"Do you think... Mighty is at peace?" asked Ray.
For a moment nobody said anything, until Vector started chuckling.
"I know he is." said Vector "Guy went out doing what he loved, protecting the world. It doesn't get anymore peaceful than that."
"Yeah." smiled Ray through his tears "I guess in the end he did find it."
"He was one of the good ones." Charmy chimed in.
Bark nodded in respect. Ray was on the brink of tears, until Tails leaned in.
"He died a hero."
"Yeah. You're right." said Ray, wiping away the tears "And he'll never be forgotten."
"Amen to that." laughed Vector.
Knuckles, hearing the whole thing also spoke up.
"Mighty's death will not be in vain. Once we're back at base he'll be given the Medal of Honor. And after that I'll see to it personally that he gets the proper burial he deserves."
"T-Thank you sir." murmured Ray.
"No. Thank you. You've made this old echidna feel more at peace than he's ever been. From now on, no more being so focused on destroying our enemy. That's what's truly been our downfall. From now on we try to make peace with the enemy and within ourselves."
"But what if the enemy doesn't want peace?" asked Tails.
"If Vector was able to win one over, and if the female rogue is willing to help us then think of what the rest could do. I'm sure some of them feel like they are in a prison. Not able to escape. It's up to us to try and break them out of that prison."
The team sat and pondered a bit. Together they all agreed that they would try and make peace with the enemy. At least with the enemy that wants that peace.
In the middle of the ocean a battleship floats. Inside the hull of the ship Zavok speaks with Snively over the com.
"Everything is taken care of here." said Snively "Is there any new information from our spy?"
"The spy says that there's a rogue in the base who's been relaying information to a nurse."
"Hmm. A nurse?"
"Yes sir."
"Well then, do what you must. As for me... I have some catching up to do with dear old uncle."
