Before a Date
The school week was coming to an end and both Izuku and Mina were in blissful agony waiting for their date tonight.
Those damn butterflies were swirling in her stomach again. She was a little worried because well, it was her first date with her boyfriend. She and Toru had talked about the possibilities of what a date with Izuku would be like. She didn't really know what to expect because, on one hand, he was as sweet as they come, on the other hand, there was still the uncertainty with Uraraka and her relation to Izuku. Also today, Izuku had been acting strange, although she just assumed it was due to his nerves about their date.
They were sitting at their desks waiting for the final bell to ring. Midoriya looked out the window as he thought about what happened yesterday as everyone went to bed.
There weren't much people in the living quarters, it was just Midoriya, Iida, Bakugo, and Kirishima. Iida left as soon as the curfew hit. Kacchan left as he gave Deku a look. Izuku acknowledged the glance, clearing his throat after it was just them two. "Uh, hey Kirishima, you got a sec?"
At the mention of his name and tone, his body tensed before relaxing. "Yeah, for what?" He didn't keep his eyes off the TV, as if already knowing where this conversation was leading to, simply bracing himself for Midoriya to actually say it himself.
"Um, a-about Mina..?" He asked in an uncertain manner. It caused Kirishima to finally turn away from the TV and look at Midoriya.
He stood up before walking to the front entrance. "I'd rather talk outside."
"O-Oh, yeah. Right behind you."
They didn't walk far, just enough not to be heard. Izuku was a little nervous, he had noticed Kirishima avoiding him up until now, he just hoped it didn't reach to a head like it did with Kacchan. He held his breath as he stared at Kirishima's back after they finished walking. The redhead let out a sigh before turning around to face Izuku. "Look, so you know I like her but what do you want me to do? I can't stop how I feel."
"N-No, I guess you can't." Izuku glanced down with empathy. "Honestly, that was one of the last things I wanted to hear." He let out a nervous chuckle. "It's just-,"
"Don't worry, I'm not gonna get involved with your business with Ashido, that's not the manly thing to do."
His words caused Izuku to relax a bit. "Th-Thanks Kirishima."
"But don't get me wrong. Even though you're a good guy, people who end up hurting her, usually answer to me." Kirishima finished what he wanted to say innocently enough but then noticed that Izuku was caught off guard by his statement. For some reason it edged him on and to make more of a point he stepped up to him, purposely bumping his shoulder roughly. "You got it, Midoriya? I've always been there for Ashido." And kept on walking.
At first, Izuku was left wide-eyed at Kirishima's blunt actions. Then, he thought about what he said to him, and it didn't sit well with Midoriya. He didn't like how Kirishima acted like Mina was his to protect. "Oi, Kirishima," Izuku waited for him to stop walking. It was a little shaky but still, he said it with conviction, "If you really were there for her, then you would be her boyfriend right now and not me."
Kirishima didn't turn around. He was still for a moment before he started walking back to the dorms. Izuku let out a breath he didn't know he was holding. He waited outside, thinking to himself for a bit as he stared at the sky, before he went back inside, trying to get some sleep before his date with Mina tomorrow.
He couldn't stop thinking about his altercation with Kirishima. He had intended to clear things up but instead, he made things worse. His stomach had already flipped a few times throughout the day, dealing with the whiplash of the confrontation. 'Funnily enough the only reason I've been able to get through this day is for the same I've been dreading its end. My date with Mina tonight!' And he especially didn't want to worry her with anything before their first date. 'As cheesy as it sounds, I want it to be special.'
He had subconsciously glanced over at Ashido because of his thoughts, who was sitting at her assigned seat. She felt a stare and turned to it, seeing Midoriya. She giggled to herself when she realized he was probably doing his mental ramblings, not aware he was staring at her. To get his attention, she winked and blew him a kiss. The quick action got him to realize that he had been staring and he grew a small blush because of it and her actions. He mouthed the word 'sorry' as he caught the kiss and placed it in his notebook. She laughed out loud at his adorable action. She rubbed the back of her hair as she sheepishly apologized for the outburst. She honestly didn't care because it seemed like Izuku was out of that weird mood he was in today.
The last school bell of the week finally rang and the students began to go about their business. Some students stayed in the class and chilled, others had duties, and the rest had left at the chance. Mina was hugging her school bag to her chest as she walked to Izuku, who was still at his desk.
"Hey, Izuku, what are you doing?" Until she saw that he was actually drawing the kiss she blew to him earlier. She facepalmed. "Stop being adorably cringy, dam it." He chuckled it off, then she started saying what she came to tell him. "Me and Toru are going to my room, she's going to help me get ready for t-tonight." She internally groaned. 'Ugh, I didn't want to stutter, now he knows I'm nervous!'
No, no, he doesn't...
"Sounds good, I'll pick you up at around seven, okay?" Not even noticing her stutter.
"O-Okay." 'Stop stuttering!'
The both of them sharing a shy naive smile, excited for their upcoming date.
