A/N: This chapter is dedicated to my most recent reviewer Aura Kuran for giving me the motivation I needed to continue. My apologies it's been so long~ Please enjoy.
A Purebloods Poison Kiss
Zero POV
A thousand thoughts seemed to run through his head in all but an instant and he couldn't seem to process even a single one. He didn't know if it was the freezing cold that shook his frail body so or if it was that intense fear of being so close to the one person it took forever, a seemingly endless eternity to escape.
Zero would wake up in a minute; he was sure of it. This was a dream... a nightmare, surely, it must have been. Any second now and he'll awaken in that dark confined spaced he'd grown to find comfort, in the darkness he now sought some twisted kind of solitude.
Any second now...
Any second...
Now.
Why wasn't he waking up?!
So he wasn't free after all. No. Never would he be free. Not if Kaname Kuran was still alive that is. Never.
He didn't respond that uncaring desperation; the way those sinfully warm lips hungrily attempted coaxing his own frozen pair to respond. He simply couldn't; each limb had been numbed with an unspeakable force, he couldn't move a muscle. He couldn't respond even if he wanted to, and he most certainly couldn't escape.
Escape. It had never been an option, he mentally laughed. That idea always sounded too good to be true. Such a word seemed foreign to his ears now.
The purebloods wet tongue managed to pry the two luscious lips of his mouth open, though was met with immediate resistance as Zero's defence mechanism kicked in. Sharp fangs clamped down on the wet intrusion forcing its way past his walls.
Insolent. Always insolent; thought Kaname. Nothing ever changed, and that would always make it all the more fun; gave him all the more reason to keep playing with the hunter. The amusement that had edged its way into his thoughts suddenly took a more serious turn.
This has to stop now. The voice was barely audible, seemingly small and insignificant as it called out to him; something he didn't care to focus on at that particular moment, yet he listened nevertheless.
Mere submission to a predator was simply a bore. Though, for someone with his stature not to receive what he wanted could extremely piss one royal pureblood off. In irritation and confused arousal, the pureblood grasped that pale neck of his captive, crushing the slender column, and forcing the Silverette to succumb to his will as he was slammed further into the rough splintering wood of the tree-trunk behind him. He wanted, no needed to coax some kind of reaction out of the hunter. By force of habit? Maybe so. By something more? Who knows.
Zero couldn't breathe. His windpipe was being crushed; though it was not a feeling he wasn't used to by now after being in the presence of the brunette for so long. The mouth covering his was allowing no room for oxygen either, or for further resistance. He instinctually reached for his rose, only to be met by the absence of that cold hard metallic metal that he missed so dearly.
Crap.
The mark on his neck pulsed again, this time with an even greater vengeance.
It was getting worse.
In that moment, the pain was so great he would quite happily accept death itself. He clawed at the scarred skin, drawing blood, hoping to cease the sharp stinging, but in vain, it only intensified it.
He refused to believe his 'kind' was the real beast in society, not when people like him existed; not while Kaname Kuran still walked the very earth. Zero was nothing in comparison to this monster.
Remember why you're here Kaname. You were to rid yourself of this 'problem' That same voice, that small insignificant voice was back, startling him out of his dazed arousal. Releasing the hunter's lips, he clenched his jaw. He had to end this - whatever 'this' was - permanently.
Zero stared wide-eyed at the pureblood, wondering what move he would pull next as he stared into the abyss that was the devils gaze. He watched as he bared those glimmering fangs, utterly mesmerised yet shaken as he watched the tips glitter in the moonlight, glinting with a deadly nefarious promise of pain, only for his face to be attacked once more.
That time, the kiss stung, and it was something he couldn't escape; not now, and not ever. It felt like his tongue was making his way down his throat, coating his insides with the deadliest venom, trickling drop by drop down his throat. The numbness that had consumed his body faded, suddenly, replaced with the most excruciating agony. Every limb, every muscle, every fibre of his being was aflame, though the fire burning his neck was the worst of it all.
Death right now, it was a calming thought indeed.
He clawed at the arms that held his body in place, their iron grip suffocating, as he longed to scream out but unable to, as the mouth devouring his own would allow nothing of the sort. He attempted to focus on the somewhat pained expression the pureblood wore, but his vision swam, everything was hazy, and the world around him was spinning. Was it pain he had saw, or was it amusement?
It didn't matter now, he'd never know.
His mouth was freed with a painful gasp, as Kaname tore his lips away.
"Good-bye Zero" For real this time... Kaname added that thought mentally, before gently settling the now trembling form on the grass beside him.
Kuran... Was his last thought, before the feeling of falling embraced his mind and body, and the intense burning of a thousand suns enveloped his soul.
Will the purebloods final kiss deliver him from this needless torment?
The dark shades of night still filled the early morning sky, as the sun barely peeked out from atop the mountains that masked the vast horizon. It was perfect for the hunt. He watched the grass beneath him glisten beautifully with morning dew. He inhaled a deep breath of that crisp cold air as the light gentle breeze caressed his ash-brown hair. One couldn't be more content with life. In that moment, he was ready to take on the world. He broke out into a light jog, a simple warm up exercise before the intense hunting began. He increased his pace as he neared the designated area of his mission; the heart of a small family of falling level D's.
Nothing boiled his blood and got his adrenaline racing more than the promise he could deliver such tortured souls from evil. The first thing his hazel eyes had the fortune to fall on were the frames of two young siblings clinging to each other as though for their dear lives. The innocence of nature did nothing to hide them.
"P-Please... D-Don't hurt us" The smaller of the two begged, voice shaking considerably as he grasp on the other tightened. The plead only beckoned his hand to the waistband of his trousers to pull out his waiting gun.
"How cute, you really are a family like they said." He cooed, as he held the gun up to the little boys head. "Rule number one of being a vampire hunter; Show no mercy." He pulled the trigger.
Ruthless.
"One... Two" He murmured under his breath. He turned to confront the trees behind him, only for his darting eyes to fall upon the retreating figure that leaped for an escape.
"Rule number two; never turn your back on your enemy." He aimed for the legs, shooting each one disabling any hope of salvation, watching in amusement as the body stumbled to the floor like it'd just fallen down an imaginary flight of stairs. A smirk was drawn from soft lips. "Three"
It was a good day to be alive.
"Hey, we're on your side here" Another figure emerged from the mist, hands up in a manner of defeat. That itself, was way too confident for his liking.
"You don't wanna pull that trigger" Too confident indeed, and without a second thought, he aimed his gun again. Another of the fallen, he confirmed.
"Rule number three~ Trust no-one"
Bang.
"Four" Mission accomplished. A family of 4 that were plotting against the association terminated; hardly a threat, yet sorted nonetheless. Was he that good, or was that seemingly just too easy?
He took in another breath of fresh air. Wait... another one? He could sense another level-D nearby. There were only supposed to be four, could this be his lucky day? Following the odd presence further into the wood, he only noticed that the closer he got, the more prominent the odour grew, the more strangely familiar it became. He knitted his brows together, a look of confusion marring his features.
Nice way to make a guy uneasy...
The mist suddenly seemed to grow thicker between one tree to the next and it was hard to make much out, be he could've sworn he saw silver grass just ahead of him. As he got closer the mist revealed it wasn't anything of that sort, but a person. Upon getting a full view of the persons face he was surprised to recognise it straight away. It was Zero – the realisation soon explained everything, but what was he doing here?
He crouched down beside the form, hand reaching out to shake the still body, only to receive the silence of death as a response. Moving his hand to his pulse, he checked for a heartbeat; which came back almost inaudible, it sounded slow and laboured and the body was as cold as a corpse, way past the point of uncontrollable shivers.
His childhood friend was on the very verge of... death.
"Oh Zero... as reckless as always... What have you gotten yourself into this time?" He watched the small puffs of icy air following his hollow breathing. He shook his head. If he'd come any later, Zero, his old companion would've been as good as gone. He was just glad that he had found him, and not those other level D's. Or if they had found him, they couldn't have possibly done this to him, could they?
Placing one of Zero's arms around his neck, he picked up the body with a careful grace, and hastily made his way back to his apartment, forgetting of the mission completely...
Kaito had more important things to deal with.
A/N: Sorry again it took so long to get this out. Again, it hasn't changed much from the original chapter I put out, I just wanted to rewrite bits and make it sound better. Curse perfectionism~
Thanks for all your support with the story, I appreciate it dearly. Thank you for being so patient~ I hope you continue to enjoy. Please review and share with me your thoughts :)
