First-Year Mementos

It was the next day, Izuku Midoriya yawned as he got up from bed, he barely slept thanks to Mina. He rubbed his eyes before getting out of bed. He did his usual hygiene routine, getting ready for the day. It was still the weekend and Izuku was wondering how to spend the day.

He was brushing his teeth alongside his floormates; Tokoyami, Mineta, and Aoyama.

"What are you guys doing today? Mina is spending the day with her family and friends from her old school and Hagakure is going with her so I got nothing going on." He informed as he spat out and washed his mouth.

"I found a DIY website for toys so I have my whole day booked." Mineta said as he gargled mouthwash, it was leaking off his mouth like foam.

"Despite our age, Yaoyorozu invited me out for wine-tasting, how could I refuse?" Aoyama was always excited for the finer things in life.

Izuku stiffened a bit before slightly turning in his friend's direction. "Oh, y-you and Momo have been getting pretty close, huh?"

Aoyama instantly shifted his attention to his friend. "Midoriya, I know I said I couldn't refuse but if it makes you uncomfortable-,"

Izuku quickly brushed him off. "Ah, n-no, it's nothing. Y-You should go, you deserve it, Aoyama. I don't recall the last time you got to enjoy yourself."

It was Aoyama's turn to brush him off. "Nonsense, I always find joy in the comfort of my friends." He was referring to everyone in the class but mostly his floormates and Izuku.

This time Tokoyami spoke up. "Actually Midoriya, if you have some free time I would ask to speak to you in private later."

"Huh? Oh sure, Tokoyami. How about, after breakfast?"

And it was breakfast.

It was a weird experience for Izuku as his girlfriend wasn't around to weather the storm of their classmates with him. Mina had woken up early, thanks to Izuku, to spend the entire day with her family, 'Despite all her energy, she is not the morning type.' Izuku chuckled at the thought. In her typical bratty fashion, she did not want to get out of bed and he practically had to drag her out. She protested saying she would rather just have one of their usual lazy days in bed, sleeping around and eating Pocky but he was having none of it. She had made such a big deal about it yesterday, saying how important it was to her and how she wouldn't forgive Izuku if he didn't wake her up as early as possible, that Izuku woke up at the crack of dawn. His eye twitched from lack of sleep recalling all he went through earlier for his girlfriend's sake. 'I still don't understand why waking up early was so important to her, just for her to get upset at me! She's so annoying.' But then Izuku remembered when he dropped her and Toru off at the train station. As they were saying goodbye, she left him with a smooch on the cheek and thanked him for waking her up. Izuku dropped his head at the recent memory. '... Ah, damnit, I miss her already.'

"Here you go, Deku!" Uraraka placed it in front of him on the table. It was a cup of coffee and orange juice. "You look like you could use a pick-me-up but I didn't know which one." She let out with her ditzy smile reminding him of a waitress.

"Oh thanks, Uraraka, I'll take both though. I can use the coffee and orange juice is good for blood loss." He mentioned as he rubbed one eye only and took a sip of it. Uraraka nodded in cheer, saying you're welcome, before running off to pet dark shadow.

Todoroki turned the page of the newspaper he was reading as he added, "Then shouldn't you be drinking milk for your bones?" And even I can't tell if he's being sarcastic at this point.

Izuku almost spit out, he wiped his lips for some of the few drops that managed to escape. "Ugh, it was about to go down the wrong pipe." He said in a hoarse voice. He then thought about it, "Actually you're right, why would I even care about blood loss?" He turned to Todoroki as he talked, "Why are you reading the newspaper in a robe?!"

"I feel like I've matured lately." But he said the word with a hard T, not the tr sound.

"That's not how you say it." Izuku slapped the air to the side.

Todoroki ignored his statement as he flipped the page again pretending to read. "Midoriya, we've been through a lot together, and at this point, I think I've grown past being your foil in Lycan's fics." He crinkled the paper with his grip, "Besides that Bakubro and cheese-boi are doing a great job without me..."

"He's jealous!" Izuku had comical blank eyes. He rubbed his forehead before speaking. "Um, don't worry about it too much, you always come through, besides don't you have that one storyline going on with Yui?"

Todoroki had ditched the newspaper and robe at this point. "Ah, but that probably won't be important until the Autumn arc."

Izuku facepalmed, "Why am I not surprised that you're wearing your uniform when it isn't a school day... Wait Autumn arc?"

Todoroki gave Izuku a nonchalant glance. "Midoriya have you not been paying attention? It started in spring, now we're in summer, my favorite, next is fall, then the most thematically obvious would be the winter ending." Laying it all out in a matter-of-fact way.

Izuku stared at him with a blank expression before, "Wait, all that was just an intro arc!?" Izuku had stood and harshly pointed at the entire summation of the story thus far.

"Welp, at least, we have the beach episode to look forward to."

Izuku slumped back down to his seat, staring off at all the information that was just dropped on him. He could only take a sip of his coffee and say, "Yeah, that's true..."

Izuku decided to ignore what he found out, opting to think of Mina in a bikini, knee-deep in the water, holding a beach ball by her hip, and teasing him to play by splashing water at him. "Ah... That's a comforting thought." He figured Todoroki had a point, deciding to look towards the positives.

"Although, Midoriya you did have a point, about Kodia, I mean."

"Hm, what's that?"

"I was wondering if you had any advice? You two seem to be on good terms, dare I say close?"

"Oh, that?" Izuku scoffed with a chuckle, waving him off. "It's nothing really, she just happens to be my upstairs neighbor back at home." Izuku ruffled the back of his hair as he kept his stupid grin. "The worst part is that I didn't find out until the start of our first year, here at U.A."

Todoroki could only give dumbfounded eyes to his friend after finding that out.

It was a strange breakfast, to say the least for Izuku.

And yet throughout the rest of the day, after my conversation with Todoroki, I couldn't stop thinking of Momo's words;

It's like you just decided to ignore everything that happened to you during our first-year!
