First-Year Mementos: Part Three

Izuku had left the dorms, heading for the school building, where the library was located, with the book in hand. "I also promised to help Tsu with the garden she has on the roof." Izuku thought out loud as was his habit. "It's kind of strange having a day without Mina or being at the agency, doing hero work." He couldn't remember the last time he was able to just hang out. "It kinda reminds me of our first year-,"

"Yo, Midoriya," She tapped his shoulders, having caught him just as he was leaving the dorms.

"Huh?" He turned around to face her, "Oh, hey, Jiro what's up?"

She was playing with one of her earphone jacks, trying to figure out how to ask him. "Look I know things between you and Yao-momo aren't the best right now, and before you interrupt, I was actually wondering if there was any way for Ashido and her to be friends again?"

At first, Izuku was caught off guard, then thought about it. Before everything, Momo and Mina were good friends, nothing special but still close.

Sometimes in the middle of the peace and quiet, either during school or at the dorms, Izuku would notice Mina glancing over at Momo, and when she did, she never looked annoyed or angry, instead, Mina would just look sad. And it killed him because those vibrant honey gold eyes he cherished would turn dull with a lack of effort to shine. The worst part was when she pretended nothing was wrong, forcing that cheerful attitude back on.

Izuku rubbed his jaw in thought. "Jiro, I... I get where you're coming from, I'd love it if things could go back to how they were but I can't talk to Mina about that. I'm the reason Mina and Momo aren't friends anymore..."

Jiro sighed before placing her hands behind her head with a shrug. "Ugh, I figured asking was a long shot but still thought I should for Yao-momo at least, but how knows maybe you can be why they become friends again. Although, I won't hold someone like you to it." Jiro was walking back to the doors with a casual stride, "And who knows maybe you'll hear some Gorillaz next time you go out for a morning jog." She joked as she left.

Izuku chuckled as he rolled his eyes, "Concert, when?"

After their conversation, Izuku went to the library, and as soon as he entered he was whacked with a floating book.

"Being tardy with school property is above you, Izuku Midoriya!"

Izuku was nursing the comical bump on his head. "Hey, Reiko." Greeting the school library's student assistant, Reiko Yanagi. The book levitated out of his hands, floating to her, "B-Besides, there's no such thing as late fees at this school."

Reiko scoffed, "That would be expected from the excuse hero Monoma, although I guess you're hero moniker of useless fits the situation at hand."

"Oi, you hurt me enough with the Monoma comparison." Deku had his hand up asking her to stop the mutterings that were similar to his. "I'll make it up to you, I know you like using the weekend to organize and prep for the week, what can I help with?"

Reiko caught the floating book, holding it to her chest with both arms as she glanced up in thought before answering.

"Coffee."

Mina Ashido was at the mall with her friends. They were resting at the food court after goofing around all day. Although similar to how Izuku felt out of step without Mina, she was feeling lighter without him. She didn't know how to explain it but Izuku always seemed to keep her grounded and without him, it was like she could be swept up.

Just as she was thinking of him, her phone began to ring. "Oh, that must be Izuku! He thinks I forgot about the dancing lessons but I'm just bidding my time, mwhahaha!" She was getting ready to subtly tease him about it.

She pulled out her phone as her friends looked at her with an amused eyebrow. Mina was too excited and when she saw who it was on the screen she audibly groaned with disappointment.

She answered in a huff. "Hello? What do you want Shindo?" It was Yo Shindo, someone who worked at the same agency as Mina.

"Hey, Ashido how's it going?"

"Get to the point. This number is only for emergencies."

"Woah, you don't have to be harsh, besides this is friendly."

"Hm?"

"It's just that the beach trip sounds really fun. It's gonna be great, can't wait to see ya, there!" Click.

Mina stared at her phone, "What did Shido mean by, see ya there? That's it I'm calling Izuku!"

As that conversation happened with Mina, Izuku also got a phone call.

"Hm, it's probably Mina. Ah, give me one sec, Reiko." And unlike his girlfriend, Izuku didn't check the screen and simply swiped to answer with a closed-eye smile.

"I would have rather texted but Yo thought a call would be better, it's wack I know, ugh! So like what's up Deku-Deku!"

"C-Camie? What do you want? This number is for emergencies." Replying just as annoyed as his girlfriend did. Camie Utsushimi worked at the same agency as Izuku.

"Ouch, harsh today. Welp anyways that beach trip is gonna be lit, we totes can't wait!" Click.

He stared at his phone the same way Mina did. "What did she mean by can't wait? I have to call Mina!"

They both yelled at the same time as soon as they were connected.

"Izuku!"

"Mina!"

"Shindo and Camie?" She asked.

"Shindo and Camie." He confirmed.

Mina and Izuku loathed Shido and Utsushimi. While Izuku and Mina started their relationship on a whim, Yo and Camie had a cliche budding romance that eventually bloomed. While Izuku and Mina hooked up out of boredom, Yo and Camie were saving themselves for marriage, at least that's what they said. While Izuku and Mina went to the same school and basically lived together, Yo and Camie attended different schools and had to travel to meet up, saying that even though it's hard, it's worth it. And the worst part, at least for Mina, was that while Izuku and her were the idol pair of U.A. Yo and Camie were the idol couple of the young hero world!

It annoyed them to no end how Yo and Camie always seemed to be the better ones.

"Ugh, I can't stand them!"

"I know, they're as obnoxious as Kacchan but at least he's earnest about it."

"So then why did you invite them to the beach?"

"Huh, me? I thought you did, to try and show them up or something."

"Me? I thought you did thinking Camie guilt-tripped you or something."

"Why would I feel sorry for someone like her?! But wait, if you didn't invite them and I didn't, that means..."

Mina finished his thought, "They invited themselves?! Are you kidding me?! How did they even find out about it!"

Izuku and Mina were rivals with Yo and Camie in the battle to be the best hero-couple!
