Chapter 7:

Lucifer arrived at the precinct and entered seeking his partner. He found her in a debate with Dan over interviewing Susan.

He heard her say, "No, Dan, it isn't a good idea to take Susan in for questioning. She is still rather confused, besides what little I've been able to get her to tell me, she is most likely not connected to this."

"Chloe, she was at the crime scene, I mean what else could it be? Did she appear from out of nowhere?" Dan asked, not believing for one moment she had nothing to do with it.

"Why of course Daniel, that's how my family does things," said Lucifer.

Dan groaned, "Yeah right." Shaking his head, "Idiot."

"Have I ever lied to you, Daniel?" Lucifer asked, looking wounded.

I will never understand why you want to work with this nutcase, Chlo. Let alone that you are in a relationship with him. Are you really letting someone like that close to our daughter?" Dan said in an agitated tone of voice.

"He's a good man Dan regardless of what you think. He didn't stand by and let me become the laughing stock of the department by not backing me up when I told the truth!" she said back just as agitated. "He makes me want to be a better detective, a better mother, and a better person. Plus, I know he will never ever lie to me." She shot back. Dan was red-faced, but instead of responding, he just walked off not wanting to argue with her.

"I am sorry you had to hear that, babe." Chloe sighed deeply, "I don't know how long I can keep Dan from nosing into Susan."

"We shall think of something." Lucifer tried to comfort her.

"Right now we need to interview a suspect. A miss Kyra Spellman." Chloe said back being in detective mode.

They walk over to the integration room, where Miss Spellman was already waiting for them, sitting at the table a little antsy as her left leg was bouncing up and down at a fast pace.

"You don't have to be nervous, Miss Spellman. We just want to ask you some questions." Chloe said trying to comfort her.

"About Saul?" Kyra asked.

"Saul Quester, yes," Chloe said while looking for the name in the file.

"What do you want to know?" Kyra asked

"Me and him were co-workers. We took care of the same animals." Kyra said, "I don't think he had enemies, I mean he was such a sweet person."

Both Chloe and Lucifer looked at her, the devil could tell she was not being totally honest with them.

"No one he didn't get along with or caused trouble for?" asked Chloe.

"What about you? It would seem if you worked together you get to know each other quite well. There must be something you can tell us." said Lucifer trying to mojo her, "What is your deepest darkest desire?"

"To know that this wasn't my fault?" Kyra said.

"Why would it be your fault?" asked Lucifer.

"Because my jealous ex won't take no for an answer, and he scared off the last three guys I dated," Kyra said without meaning to.

"So you were seeing Saul?" Chloe asked.

"Yeah, but you can't tell my boss I'll get fired, employees aren't supposed to date each other." Kyra sighed looking at the table.

"Were you together for a long time and can you give me the name of your ex?" Chloe asked next.

"We were together about a year on the down-low." Kyra said before she sighed and revealed the name of her ex, "His name is Tad Chesham."

"Thank you, Kyra," Chloe said.

"Let's see what we can find about this Tad Chesham," Lucifer whispered to Chloe.

Chloe nodded at this.

They walked back to Chloe's desk. If what Kyra said is true, they should find something about him.

Chloe looked around and then asked, "how is Susan doing?"

"Quite well since she's with her prince charming" Lucifer answered.

"What do you mean? Like the one from her story? How is that possible? Didn't you say you hired the LT.'s son?" Chloe rambled in detective mode.

"I did, it turns out he's one and the same, when it comes to my brother, anything is possible it seems," Lucifer answered.

"He is probably here to help us. Does the lieutenant know about you?" Chloe asked curiously.

"I'm not sure, but I wouldn't leave it to my brother to leave loose ends. I'm sure he took care of that." Lucifer replied.

"Can they be trusted?" She asked. She didn't want someone in their lives who would hurt her even more than she already was.

"Well, I think he is the help my brother had promised, and the Lt. is his backup or at least his ally in this world." Lucifer sighed in a whisper.

"Should we talk to him? Or wait until he comes to us?" Chloe had still many questions about the celestial business.

"I think it's best for him to come to us or at least give him a chance to talk with his "son" before we say anything." Something that was very out of character for Lucifer, who always had been open about who or what he was, "I think it will be the best way to protect her."

"Look, I found her ex, clearly he isn't such a saint after all." Chloe showed the file on her computer, "He has several priors for assault, battery, and other charges."

"Let's go and visit this human demon shall we?" Lucifer had a grin on his face, "This should be fun." Lucifer added as they head out.

Once in his office, the Lt. decided to check on his adopted son. He picked up the phone and dialed the number to the phone he had gotten him about a week ago.

"Hello?" Caspian answered his phone.

"Hello Caspian, I wanted to check to see how you are doing?" The Lt. Said.

"It couldn't be better. I not only got the job, but I also found the person we were looking for." Caspian answered, "She was being sheltered by the club owner. By the lion, I think he led me to her, for the club owner didn't remember placing the ad for the job. Now that I have queen Susan back at my side, I'm not going to let her go again."

"That's great news! You found the gentle queen. The Club owner would he happen to be Lucifer Morningstar?" asked the Lt.

"Why yes, he is. He said his lady was a detective, and he just left to meet up with her. Does she work in your new department? asked Caspian.

"She does, in fact, I just met them both." said the Lt.

"It should be quite interesting to have to work with him he doesn't seem like one that puts much stock in the rules," commented the Lt.

"Do you think that he will give problems?" Caspian asked a bit worried.

"I'm not sure, I think he might be a loose cannon, but it should still work in our favor." The Lt. said,

"I think that he isn't going to bring Susan into jeopardy." Caspian said, "according to Susan he seems fairly committed to her well-being." He added, "That Aslan asked him personally to do so, and he's taking that request seriously."

"I never thought that he would have asked that brother when he told us." the Lt. said, "but it will help in protecting her. I'll make sure to back them up when they make efforts to protect her." The Lt. commented,

"Susan and I both thank you for that. It might be needed according to her she was found in the middle of a sticky situation, and it might be hard to explain away her presence." Caspian answered.

"Anything I can help you with?" The Lt. asked curiously.

"She says that one of the detectives wanted to question her, on why she was there. If we could keep him at bay as long as possible that would be helpful." Caspian relayed to him.

"The Zookeeper case?" The Lt. asked, just to be sure that he held the right detective at bay.

"Yes, she says they found her in a zoo." Caspian relayed to him.

"Okay, that's all I need to know. I will keep Detective Espinosa at bay." The Lt. said, "Tell her not to worry."

"So where is she now? Is she safe?" he asked Caspian.

"She is. She is in a little apartment right under Mr. Morningstar's but above his club." Caspian said, "She is under his protection and he would rather that she would go out with someone than alone, when needed."

"Understandable." said the Lt. "good thinking. We want to keep her safe."

"After everything, we've been through I don't want to mess this up." said Caspian, "but we can talk more later. I'll see you later tonight."

"I understand, and we will do everything we can to keep her safe. I will see you tonight." The Lt. said before hanging up the phone.

Now that he knew that Caspian was safe and with his lost queen. He was much less worried about him. Now to make sure that he did all he could on his end to keep her safe.

Lucifer and Chloe pulled up to the work address for Tad, which unsurprisingly was a gym.

Lucifer rolled his eyes, "I should have known a muscle boy."

"Yeah, it looks like it. Good thing you're stronger than you look." Chloe said to Lucifer.

"Are you really saying that I am your muscle boy?" Lucifer grinned

"At the moment, yes." She grinned and winked at him.

"Well, let's surprise him about who is the strongest of us all shall we." Lucifer smiled before they head in.

They walked to the front desk, "Good evening, Miss. LAPD." Chloe said to a young blonde woman that sat behind it. As she flashed her badge, "Is a Mr. Tad Chesham here?"

The blonde woman looked, seeing Lucifer as first, "Uhm..., Mr. Chesham is in a meeting, but you can always wait here," she said while drooling all over him. She didn't even notice the woman beside the devil.

"Thank you, darling," Lucifer said. Feeling a nudge in his ribs from Chloe before taking a seat.

"What?" he asked

Chloe looked at him wanting to say really?

"It's not like I have an off switch," Lucifer whispered.

Chloe rolled her eyes and shook her head, knowing he was right. She felt strangely possessive over her boyfriend after everything they had been through, no one was taking her man.

"You aren't jealous, are you?" Lucifer asked with a grin.

"Of course, not." But in the tone she said it in, he could clearly tell she was lying.

Lucifer looked at her, with that certain smug look, she knew in that moment that he had figured it out that she was.

She looked away embarrassed, and not wanting to see that smug look she knew would be on his face.

"I like this new side of you, detective." He whispered smugly.

He wanted to say more when a Stalone sort of bodybuilder walked down the stairs of the gym. He knew right away this was their man. Now he knew why they needed the muscle.

He walked from the desk towards where Chloe and Lucifer were waiting for him, "Can I help you?"

Chloe spoke up all business, "LAPD, we like to ask you a few questions about Saul Quester."

"What did he complain about now?" Tad growled aggressively.

"Nothing this time, cause he was found dead two days ago at his place of employment. The LA Zoo." Chloe said.

"And what? Do you think I did it? huh?" He stepped closer towards Chloe. A bit too close to Lucifer's liking.

"Well, we heard from your ex that you have a problem with no, and with running off her paramours." Lucifer stood protectively next to his girlfriend, ready to defend her. Staring the man down, sensing that outside his abuse of steroids, he would be becoming one of his subjects soon enough.

"What are you looking at?" The man asked agitated, "Afraid she will run off with a real man?"

"No, not at all, she has something much better than that. Just watching out for her welfare. Why don't you save us all a great deal of time and tell us what we need to know then we can all be about our day?" he said to him looking directly into his eyes.

"You are playing with fire," Tad growled back.

"No, fire I don't have a problem with, just little boys who take drugs to feel like big men," Lucifer said coldly.

"Lucifer," Chloe warned her boyfriend.

Not because she was afraid he could get hurt but she didn't want to start on a bad foot with the new Lt and starting a fight in a gym would do that.

"Are you letting her fight the battle for you? Not man enough to do it yourself?" Tad asked

Chloe smashed the palm of her hand against her head. She felt from a distance that Lucifer's jaw tensed.

"Excuse me? I don't need her to fight my battles. I can take you down with one hand." Lucifer growled back.

Nobody challenged the devil and didn't get punished for it.

The guy reached out to grab Lucifer so quickly that it was a blur to the eye. Lucifer dodged then reached out to push him away. The impact of his hand on the man sent him flying back a few feet off his feet and onto the ground on his back.

"Never judge a book by its cover. You have no idea who you are dealing with. Nobody challenges the devil like that." Lucifer growled wanting to walk towards him again but was stopped by Chloe as she grabbed his arm.

"Now are you going to answer her or are you going to need to be thrown around a little more?"

Lucifer asked coldly.

"no not at all," Tad said.

"Then please feel free to answer the questions so we can be on our way." Lucifer said more calmly now, still a bit tense. Tad though was embarrassed about the fact that Lucifer had thrown him on the ground so easily, "I was out of town until this morning I was on a business trip."

"Can someone confirm that?" Chloe asked now standing between him and Lucifer, more to keep her devil at bay.

"Yes, I have my ticket stub if you want as well as the people I met with and my secretary who made the reservations," Tad said.

"Give me all the contacts and we can check your alibi," Chloe responded.

"fine" He got off the floor and went over to the desk to grab his address book for the list.

He gave everything to the detective.

"Is that all?" He asked

"For now but don't leave town for a few days," Chloe said,

"Oh, I won't trust me." Tad said with a grin, "I'll be easy to find if need be."

Lucifer went with her but kept an eye on the suspect as they left. He didn't trust the man one bit.

He knew he was going to be trouble going forward.
