Chapter 28 First Seat of 88th Generation Part 1
After the Autumn Elections are over, a blue-haired boy who is 19 years old is now standing in front of the Polar Star Dorm, as he knocks on the door, Fumio-san is the one who opens it and she sighs, "I never thought you would return so soon. Yu."
"It sure has been a while, Fumio-san. May I ask if I came in a bad time?" The person named Yu asks with a smile.
Fumio sighs as she says, "The kids are now at the garden, why don't you come to sit for a while?"
Soma and the others are now returning back to the dorm after gathering a lot of vegetables, and Soma asks, "Isshiki-senpai, what are you going to make with these vegetables that we have here?"
"That sure is a good question, how about we make some special chikuzenni?" Isshiki asks, and Yuki yells, "I agree! That is the best!"
"Indeed, it sure reminds me of the Shokugeki that Soma-kun won against Mimasaka-kun." Megumi says.
"Oh, you mean the beef stew." Soma says. "Even though it has been a few weeks, I still can't believe I tied with Hayama..."
Just then, as they enter the dining room, they notice that the breakfast is already made, and Daigo asks, "What's with Fumio-san? Those are some delicious breakfast!"
"Maybe she is in a good mood?" Shoji asks. "But they are not that kind of breakfast that we usually eat..."
Fumio walks from the kitchen and says, "Oh, you guys are here. The breakfast is already, just pick what you like."
"Fumio-san, did you make these?" Isshiki asks, Fumio sighs, "I didn't. We have a surprised guest who helped me make these."
"Surprised guest?" Everyone is shocked until the boy walks out of the kitchen, "Fumio-san, this is the last one."
"B-b-brother?" Just then, everyone notices that Megumi is the one who gasps as Yu turns to Megumi, "Oh? Megumi. Good to see you again."
"Megumi-chi's brother?" Yuki gasps in shock and so does everyone in the room. Soma recognizes the person in front of him and Fumio says, "This is Tadokoro Yu, he was the first seat of the 88th generation, and also one of the stars in the Polar Star Dorm."
"Former First seat?" Everyone gasps in shock except for Soma, Megumi, and Isshiki.
Megumi asks, "W-w-what are you doing here? Brother?"
Yu says, "Why can't I see how my sister is doing in school? I came here to visit, of course."
As they are sitting at the table, Soma looks at the plate, he says, "They are much similar to those scallion pancakes that were from Taiwan...but there are also eggs and other things inside..."
"These are Egg Pies, when I was studying at Qiu's restaurant, I noticed a lot of them from the streets. There are a variety of them and I decided to use all the factors I learned around the world to make this."
Yuki says, "That's true...I can see that there is some sort of fried chicken in this one..." After taking a bite, she is overwhelmed by the crunchiness and flavor of the chicken. As for Ryoko, he got the Kimchi one as she feels a little spicy but delicious. As for Soma, he got the one with the sausages, and he is also overwhelmed by the taste.
"My brother is a specialist in breakfast." Megumi says. "But I sure haven't tried any of these before."
Yu says, "In western breakfast, there are a lot of sweet bread and also other things like eggs, beans, sausages for breakfast, and in the east, there are noodles, pancakes, and also other things. But what surprised me is the variety in Taiwanese breakfast, and these egg pies are the reason."
"But did you greet Mom when you came back from Japan?" Megumi asks her brother, and he says, "I did, and this is why I came here. I have some serious questions for you."
Megumi starts to panic and Yu says, "When I heard that you came into the last place during the entrance exam, I was worried about you. But recently, I heard that your grades are improved, and not only that, I heard you also become the top 8 of the Autumn Elections."
Yu rubs Megumi's head like she is some sort of pet and says, "You did a good job, Megumi."
"Don't do that, it is embarrassing...brother..." Megumi yells.
"Megumi and her brother really are different..." Ryoko says, and the other members of the Polar Star Dorm nod.
Isshiki says, "Tadokoro Yu-kun, I am the Number 7 of the Elite 10, Isshiki Satoshi. It is surely an honor to meet you in person, I have read a lot about you there, you managed to become the 5th seat in your first year, and then you have become the 1st seat during your second year. That sure is something else."
"You are flattered." Yu smiles, "I just want to become the very best, that's all."
As the two are talking, Soma turns to Megumi and asks, "So Megumi, what kind of person is your brother?"
Megumi says, "My brother is an amazing person, he has been taking care of me and my family a lot. But he always worries about me, because I couldn't do anything all by myself before you came...Soma-kun."
"Eh?" Soma says.
"You must be Yukihira Soma, right?" Yu walks towards him and says, "It seems that of all the people here, you seem to be close with Megumi. And I'm really glad."
Soma is confused as he says, "Um...thanks?"
"Though I also heard from Qiu senpai that you are dating my sister, is that right?" Soma suddenly feels a chill from the boy in front of him, and he says, "So what if I am?"
Just then, Yu changes his attitude and asks, "Did Megumi slow you down with your grades? Is she a burden to you? I'm sorry if you think like that..."
"Brother! What are you talking about!" Megumi yells, and Soma is confused at the sudden behavior.
"Anyway. I'm glad that Megumi has someone rather than me to take care of." Yu says. "Megumi always has low grades, and I have been worried whether she would get an expulsion warning."
"Well, there is one time she was about to get expelled." Soma says, causing both Megumi and Yu to panic.
"Soma-kun! Do you need to mention that?" Megumi says in panic and Yu suddenly grabs Soma's shoulder and says, "Explain to me! Which chef tries to expel Megumi? And what reason?"
Soma sighs as he tells them all about what happened during the training camp, and Yu says, "Shinomiya-senpai, huh? But I can't believe you would go this far for Megumi. I mean, I am very touched that you would try to do that for her."
Just then, his expression changes again and he says, "But to think you would try to have a Shokugeki against an Alumnus! Not even the Phantom would be that reckless!"
"You know about Phantom as well? Brother?" Megumi asks in shock.
"He was there when I was in Grade 2, I have tried some Shokugeki with him, but I never won against him." Yu sighs. "He is a formidable opponent, I can tell why he was strong. Speaking of which, he hasn't graduated yet?"
"He is actually the same age as us." Ibusaki says.
"And Yukihira knows his full identity!" Yuki adds.
"Oh, really? Then you must have finally defeated the Phantom, huh?" Yu turns to Soma with a smile.
"No, he is actually my examiner for the Transfer exam." Soma says. "And he has been helping me during these days."
Yu is now in deep thoughts, but he doesn't say anything.
After the meal is over, Soma, Megumi, and Yu are the ones in the room and Yu says, "Megumi, seeing that you have a capable boyfriend as well as your growth, I want to see it."
"See what?" Megumi asks.
"I want to see you cook in front of me." Yu says. "Show me how you manage to get into the top 8 in the Autumn Elections."
"Cooking for you?" Megumi is now panicking as she can't believe that her brother would ask her to do such a thing. Soma says, "That's great, Tadokoro. I was also interested in what you made back in the Autumn Elections. In return, how about I made one of my dishes in the Autumn Elections for you?"
"But to think I have to make a dish for brother..." Megumi starts to write the kanji of people in her palm again and then puts it in her mouth. Yu says, "Megumi, you don't need to take this too seriously. I will never be angry at you for messing up. Because I trust you."
"Brother..." Megumi sighs as she nods. She decides to bring in the Monkfish as Soma gasps, "Wait, are you trying to butch the monkfish all by yourself?"
Yu smiles and says, "Don't worry about it Soma-kun. Megumi has known how to do this since she was 9. It brings back memories, the reason why she wants to learn how to butch the fish."
Soma asks, "What do you mean?"
"Our family comes from an inn, and a lot of the staff grow older after time after time. Butchering Monkfish was one of the best shows in our inn, and it was decided to cancel because of the old bones. Megumi doesn't want to end this, that's why she asks one of the fishermen to teach her."
"Eh..." Soma says in awe.
Megumi brings out the dish and says, "This is what I made back in the topic of curry. Monkfish Dobu-Jiru Curry."
Soma looks at the pot and says, "It looks delicious, Tadokoro."
Yu is staring at it and says, "Kogiki Pumpkin, Tachikawa Burdock, Red Daikon...all of them are ingredients from our hometown."
After Soma and Yu taste the dish, they feel warmth and kindness from Megumi herself. Soma says, "This is one of your best, Tadokoro."
"Really?" Megumi asks.
"Soma-kun is right, the dish that you present...it reminds me of my home. Every time I have been trying to learn new things across the countries, they are great, but I sometimes have nostalgia. I would always think whether you are fine, or our inn was fine." Yu says.
"Brother..." Megumi smiles at him, and Yu says, "But to be able to get into one of the four participants of the Autumn Elections using this dish, I must say that you have conveyed your messages to the judges."
"Yeah..." Megumi says.
Soma says, "Now that you have prepared the dish, how about I prepare a dish for you as well. I'll go with the Nori Bento, then."
As Soma goes to work, Yu turns to Megumi and asks, "So what do you think about this Soma-kun? I mean, why do you choose him as your boyfriend?"
Megumi says, "At first, I was just thinking that I should stay away from him so that I won't be getting a lot of attention, but then he helped me get my first A in Chapelle sensei's class."
"Oh, Chapelle Sensei, huh? It sure is hard to get an A from it." Yu says.
"And then he has been helping me go through the Training Camp, like how he tries to protect me after I was about to be expelled by Shinomiya-senpai." Megumi says.
"I see." Yu nods, and Soma manages to present the dish to the two of them. Yu looks at the dish and says, "Those Roe-like things, are Nori, right?"
"Yeah, I used some Molecular Gastromy to make them, after all, the opponent is no other than Alice." Soma says. "She is also the best in that field."
After eating the bento, he says, "The dish is quite good, however, I have a question I want to ask you, Soma-kun."
Soma is confused, until Yu asks a serious question, "I know it might not be possible, but are you perhaps...the Phantom?"
