MARINETTE:
Marinette was worried about Chat Noir.
She didn't know exactly what was going on with him. Behind his happy go lucky, flirty persona, he was lonely, and she somehow hadn't seen it before.
The lump in her throat still hadn't gone away.
His home life obviously wasn't great, and it seemed like he might be neglected.
It was crazy. How could anyone not want to spend all of their goddamn time with such an incredible person?
She knew she was lucky to have such loving parents, and she was grateful.
Her mother, who was always there for her and gave the best advice.
Her father, who could always tell when something was wrong and knew that all problems could be solved with sweets.
Together, they were the best family she could ask for.
So after Chat had swung back to his home, after Ladybug had made sure he would be okay for patrol on his own tonight, Ladybug swung back to her own house as quick as she could.
She detransformed in her room, made sure there wasn't any dirt or cuts on her face, and carefully placed Tikki onto her pillow to rest.
After that, she immediately ran down to the bakery where her parents looked at her with concern.
She rushed over to them and hugged them tight.
She took in the warm light of the boulangerie and the softness of her parents, and she had stayed there, in their safe embrace until she felt like she had accurately showed them how much they meaned to her.
They asked her what was wrong in their soothing voices, and she lied, telling them that she was just feeling emotional.
She was ninety percent sure they knew she was lying, but they let her have time to herself, as long as she promised to eat at least four cookies.
She smiled tearily, took the plate of cookies and headed up to her room in the attic.
She sat down on her bed, and for a moment, the entire world was quiet.
And then she began to cry.
She cried for the boy who didn't think he was loved.
She cried for the boy who deserved more.
She cried because all of those times she had rejected him, he might've taken it as her saying she didn't care about him.
That was the last thing that she wanted to happen.
He was her best friend, she couldn't imagine life without him.
Alya was her best friend too, in a different way.
But Chat was one of the most important people in her life, and she cried even more because he didn't realize that.
She hadn't shown him how much he meant to her. She hadn't told him she loved him.
She hadn't told him that even though she couldn't love him like he loved her, she
She cried until she couldn't cry anymore, and all she could do was make dry, horrible sobs that ripped out of her throat.
And when her throat hurt to much to do even that anymore, she grabbed her black cat plushy that always rested with her on her bed and held it to her chest, squeezing it.
She didn't know what to do.
Marinette had never felt so helpless.
She helped her friends, that was what she loved doing most. But she had thought about it for hours and she still didn't know what she could to help him.
She shut her eyes and dropped her head into her hands, and stayed there.
Until she heard a buzzing noise.
Her phone began to vibrate, shaking her comforter and forcing her to come out of her little emotional cocoon.
She picked up her phone and turned it over to see the caller ID.
It was Luka.
She sighed. She didn't know what to do. Was she even ready to talk to anyone?
He would worry, though, if she declined his call. She didn't want him to be concerned.
She pressed accept.
"Hey, Luka." She could hear the raspiness of her voice. "What's up?"
"Hey. Not much. You?"
"About the same thing. Just hanging out with myself," she replied, trying to keep the sadness out of her voice.
"You sound kind of off. Are you okay?" Fail.
"Yeah, I'm good. Just a rough day."
She could tell he knew she wasn't good. She had a hard time lying when she was emotional. Her voice gave everything away.
"Do you want to talk about it?"
She smiled softly. He was so good. "Not really. But thanks."
"No problem."
She could hear the warmth in his voice, and suddenly she craved comfort from a friend more than she could bear. She wanted to be held, and she didn't want to be alone any longer.
"Are you free right now?" She heard herself ask.
"Right now?"
"Yeah," she giggled nervously.
"It's ten o'clock," he replied, amused.
Marinette's eyes bugged open and she checked the clock by her bed. It read 10:03 PM.
"Wow. You're right. It's late. I don't know what I was thinking."
"That does mean I'm free, though… "
Marinette perked up. She could use someone now more than ever. "Really?"
"Sure, Mari. Why not?"
She cuddled her cat plushy tighter. "Okay."
"Where?"
"Do you want to meet at the bridge over the Seign? The one close to school?"
"Sounds good. I'll see you soon."
She wiped the tears from her cheeks and sat up a little straighter. She hated being alone. If she didn't have warm human contact soon by someone who wasn't her parents, she would freak out.
She swiped on some tear resistant mascara quickly, slipped on her light pink flats, and climbed out her window onto the balcony.
From there, she carefully made her way across the tiled roof to the fire escape, careful not to slip in the dark.
She slowly brought one leg, and then the other over the railing of the fire escape until she was safely on the metal platform.
She shivered when she stepped onto the sidewalk. It was colder than she thought it would be tonight.
There was no way she was going to climb those stairs all over again, though, so she started to make her way to the bridge.
The moon was a little dimmer tonight, and it made the orangey streetlights stick out more. It was nice to have the warmly colored light, but she would still take moonlight over this any day.
She hugged herself as she got closer to her destination.
Following the streetlights, she made her way to the walkway beside the Seign, and pouted a little bit that the water wasn't as glittery as it usually was.
She kept walking, though, and picked up her pace when she saw a familiar silhouette standing at the bridge.
She traipsed up the small hill and walked onto the pretty, lock covered bridge.
"Luka," she called out, grateful that her voice sounded much more normal than before.
He turned, his electric blue tipped hair swaying as he did. He smiled when he saw her. "Hey, Mari."
They met in the middle of the bridge and she smiled up at him, and he gave her a quick peck on the cheek.
He must've seen her teeth chatter slightly, because he slid off his jacket and carefully put it on her, as she looked up at him gratefully.
He frowned as he got a better look at her. "Hey. Have you been crying?"
"What?" She laughed, like the idea was insane.
"Oh, Mari."
She looked away towards the water, her eyes watering again.
"Hey, come here," he murmured, and tucked her into his side, resting his chin on her head.
"It'll be okay."
She clutched his shirt, and buried her face in his chest.
"I, feel so, weak," she stammered out between huge breaths, trying to stop herself from crying again.
"No," he whispered into her hair firmly. "You're the strongest person I know."
She shook her head, her face still buried in his clothes.
"Hey," Luka said, leaning back and tilting Marinette's chin up so that she looked him in the eyes. "Listen to me. Are you listening?"
"Yeah," she replied quietly. He nodded.
"You, Marinette Dupain Cheng, are strong. You are brave. You are beautiful. And I promise everything will turn out okay."
He reached out slowly, as if to make sure she was okay with him coming closer, and cupped her cheek with one hand and swiped away a tear Marinette didn't even know had fallen.
"Thank you, Luka."
She leaned into his hand, and she felt him rest his lips on her forehead, and she closed her eyes for a long moment.
When she opened them, Luka was closer than before.
"Can I kiss you?" He asked, so quiet, she wouldn't have heard him if he was an inch farther away.
She gave a small nod and a smile, and Luka leaned in, taking her hands and putting them around his neck before he rested his on her waist.
He leaned in even further until they shared the same breath of air, and kissed her.
His lips met hers in a confident pressure, moving his mouth with hers in a finesse she couldn't help but be surprised by.
She gasped a little bit at his boldness, a little surprised, a little impressed.
He took the opportunity to swipe his tongue a little bit between her lips and she tentatively opened more for him, not sure what was coming next.
But she knew that she trusted him.
He guided the kiss, and she was happy to be guided.
She followed his lead and took his cues and it felt even better than before.
She tightened her arms around him, trying to get even closer, and he squeezed her hips in return.
Their tongues moved together in a way she didn't even know was possible, and she leaned into him further, stepping closer so that one of her legs was in between his.
He used his grip on her waist and moved her around so that she was leaning against the intricate metal railing of the bridge.
She leaned back a little bit against the balustrade so that he could lean forward, and suddenly the kiss was at an exciting new angle that she found she liked even better than the previous one.
He could move even deeper into her mouth, and their chests were pressed against each other, and the contact felt magical.
They kissed slowly, but not without passion.
Luka allowed her to lead for a while, and Marinette felt like she was a master kisser.
Marinette got bolder with each movement of their lips.
She tangled her fingers into his soft hair and squeezed, reveling in his small groan that he emitted into her mouth.
In return, he squeezed her hips and kissed her a little faster.
She gasped a little and laughed into their kiss, and Luka laughed too.
They kissed for what seemed like hours, until her lips were swollen and he started to move his hips a little bit further from hers so that they wouldn't go too fast.
She leaned back to catch some air, and smiled at him.
He grinned back. "You're really something, you know that?"
"I could say the same thing about you," she whispered, and leaned up for another feather light kiss, asking for more.
He happily obliged.
