Regis looked at Eli with confusion after what she had said to him.
"What are you talking about?" He asked, "I'm the co-founder and CEO of DeGeneda, Regis, or also known as Sylvester. I ain't associated with the crime syndicate or the yakuza. You must have made a mistake, right? I'm just tryna warn you. After all, the crime syndicate tortured me badly. I know their power. I'm being kind-hearted by telling you about it. I could get killed for it!"
"Really? I don't think that seems to be the case." Eli uttered, "There was a time where Sylvester Willis went missing a few days while he was stopping a robbery. You were the one who told the Kurosawa sisters to capture him. You then killed him, took up his identity, and claimed it was a change. That wasn't very truthful of you."
She then scowled at him, "You are also the one who hired people to do your evil deeds like the mall shootings and the murder of Yosuke Lee. To top it off, this was all told by Dia Kurosawa, a very honest woman who can't lie at all. So, what are you gonna say now, Regis Yazuka-san?"
"Eli Ayase, right?" He clapped his hands softly and slowly, "You're smart. Definitely more knowledgeable than I thought you would be. Honestly, I didn't expect you and your friends to take down the Kurosawa sisters. That shocked me because I expected Dia to kill the three of you easily. It's pretty impressive, I gotta say."
"Looks like you look down on us all." She clenched her fists, her anger building inside her, "We're not as weak as you think, Regis. In fact, I look down on you even more. You don't seem to have a single ounce of regret after you caused so many innocent lives to be lost. Citizens fear you. Families suffer in pain and agony because their loved ones are killed. Tokyo turned into an unruly mess. Yet, you seem elated about it. You also didn't stop what you're doing."
She slammed the table with her fist and bellowed with anger, "You sadistic bastard! Don't ever think that you could continue getting your way. Me and my friends are definitely gonna bring you and your shitty crime syndicate down to the ground. We'll make sure you'll never get to terrorize this city and hurt anyone again."
That caught the attention of Kanan and Zi Yang. The male inspector told his partner there seemed to be a heated conversation between Eli and Regis. Kanan nodded her head in agreement, but told him to hold back first. Both of them however could not hear the conversation.
"Big dreams, big goals, I like that." Regis responded to Eli, "However, good things don't come without sacrifices. Besides, I was just searching high and low for this one person who backstabbed me and ran away. The public got in my way, so I just told my men to...get rid of the obstacles."
He drank another sip of his wine before he picked up where he left off, "You know, my father once told me: 我们要有现实的目标. 不要好高骛远. In English, that means 'We must have realistic goals. Don't bite off more than you can chew.' If you think you can bring me down with merely your will, then you are just another one of those heroic wannabes who tried to stop me. I followed my father's advice, and so should you. I won't be courteous to you otherwise."
"We will not back off just because you threaten us, Regis Yazuka." Eli growled, "If we do, you'll be able to carry out your dirty unlawful activities again. We ain't scared of you or the crime syndicate. We won't go down without a fight!"
"Alright, I see how it is." He sighed, "You just want to have some fun today, ain't it? However, I don't think you'll be able to outsmart me. You won't catch me today. Trust me on that." He snapped his fingers. Some men in suits appeared and stood in a line a few meters away from her, blocking the views of the two police inspectors.
"What the hell is going on?" Zi Yang asked, "Why are these idiots blocking our way?" Eli was confused as to why Regis would call his men out for no reason. When she turned back, he was gone. She facepalmed herself, wondering how on earth she could get so easily distracted.
She looked up and saw him running up the stairs to the second floor. She quickly took out a pistol and tried shooting him, but the bullets went towards the handrails instead. The men dispersed at the same time, so Zi Yang and Kanan were able to see Eli using a gun.
"That blonde bitch's trying to kill that sweet talker with a gun." Zi Yang stood up from his seat, "As much as I dislike the guy, we got to protect him. That woman actually looks like one of the three women involved in the robberies too. She has a slim figure, and she's tall. Looks like Ruby was right. The trio definitely must be here. I'm calling backup."
Kanan, having thought that Eli might be Umi's friend, got worried. Zi Yang would definitely not take it lightly if he was to see their own protégé going against them. She had to be careful and wary. If the two were to meet, that would make the situation more complicated than it already was. She had to find a way to prevent that from happening.
On the second floor, Regis quickly ran through the left hallway and into a room and locked the door before he sat down on the bed, huffing for breath. He then looked up and saw Venus, who was leaning against the wall.
"你找到她们了吗, 老板? (Have you found them yet, Boss?)" She asked him.
He nodded his head, "一个在追我, 其他两个...我不知道她们在哪里,但我知道她们在舞厅里面 (One is chasing me, the other two...I'm not sure where they are, but I'm certain they're in this ballroom)." She then passed him a car key and brought him to the window. There was a mattress directly below them on the ground floor and a car beside it.
"你拿这个钥匙, 跳下窗口, 你就会降落在床垫上 (You take this key, jump down from the window, and then you'll land on the mattress)." She told him as she pointed at the bed before pointing at the car, "然后, 你驾那辆车出去(Afterwards, drive that car out of here)."
"你呢? 你怎么办? (You? What about you?)" He questioned with concern.
"交给我处理就可以了 (Just leave it to me)." Venus took out her katana, "我知道怎么做. 你还是快点离开这里吧 (I know what to do. You should get out of this place)." Regis looked at her one more time before jumping out of the window. She then took out her phone, dialed a number, and held it to her ear.
"Hello, this is Madam." She spoke, "Get our men out of their hiding spots and kill the three women. Hundred thousand bucks for each head."
Outside the room, Umi alerted Maki when the former saw Regis running into it. They slowly crept to the door and reloaded their guns. They stood rooted to the ground, waiting patiently to see if there would be any noise from the room. At this moment, Eli reached the top of the stairs and saw the both of them.
She was about to go to them when at the corner of her eye, she saw a masked man pop out from a room behind them and aim a pistol at Maki's head. Eli quickly shot the guy down. Maki and Umi turned towards her, visibly stunned.
"Since when did you arrive?" Maki asked.
"Since you were about to get shot on the head." Eli retorted, "Anyways, I saw Regis run into this room. You two take the other room. His men must be in there." The other two nodded and ran to the room on the left. Eli counted to three before barging into the middle room, her eyes meeting with Venus's instead.
Umi and Maki went into the other room, expecting to see people, but saw no one. They slowly but steadily walked in with their guns facing down at a forty five degree. They looked around, but all that was in sight were a table, a chair, six wardrobes, and a door to the toilet. Strange, Umi thought. There weren't supposed to be this many wardrobes in a room, ain't it?
Just as they were about to go into the toilet to see if there would be anyone in it, they heard a creaking sound. Maki turned around and pointed her gun at the door. Maki told Umi to proceed ahead and check the washroom while Maki went and investigated where the sound came from. As Maki inched towards the door, a masked person behind it kicked it, but she managed to dodge it by dashing back, letting the door close with a slam.
The man took out a knife and tried to stab her, but she pulled the trigger of her gun and shot his wrist, arms, and legs. He dropped the knife and fell onto the floor, unconscious. She then saw Umi fighting two men in the toilet. As she was about to move forward to help her friend, three men jumped out of the first wardrobe with daggers. Maki sighed and shook her head before she got herself ready for battle.
The first assailant rushed forward and continuously slashed at her, but she moved left and right before her back hit the end of the wall. Realizing she couldn't move back any further, she rolled to her left as the man slashed the wall, making a dent on it. She leaned on the door, taunting him to aim on her head.
The man, enraged with anger that he couldn't even get a single shot at her, was determined to make a difference this time. He charged towards her, giving it all he could, and aimed for her head. She ducked down, and the blade stabbed the door instead, making it stuck.
As the man was trying to pull it out, she went behind him and shoved his head against the handle of the knife. He screamed in agony as she shot him on the legs and kicked his head. With that, the first man was defeated. The other two flashed their weapons out and prepared themselves to fight against Maki.
In the toilet, Umi shot one of the two men fighting her on the chest and legs, essentially knocking him out. The other one kicked her gun away and punched her on the stomach. As she was about to recover from the attack, he fisted her on the face. She stumbled back until she hit her back against the glass shower enclosure. She looked up and saw him whip out a knife.
He tried to slash her, but she lowered her head, making him scratch the glass instead. Seeing that he was open, she swept his legs to the right and his head fell into the toilet bowl. She held his head in the water for a few seconds before letting go. Before he could get up to breathe some fresh air, she slammed the toilet seat and lid on his neck, emitting a scream of agony from him.
Just as she walked past him and was about to leave the toilet, he pushed the lid back up and stood up. He cracked his knuckles before running towards her with his knife. She shot his right arm, making him drop his weapon. She then jump-kicked him on the stomach and he flew back, breaking the glass enclosure as a result. He tried getting up again, but he gave in to his injuries and fell back down to the ground.
Meanwhile, Maki swerved left and right while dodging the dagger-wielding attacks from the two men fighting her. While trying to evade the two of them, she was thinking of a plan. She needed to strike one person before she could take on the other. Thus, she rammed into the stomach of the first masked man with her head when the assailants stopped for a moment. She then kneed his chin and kicked him away, and he fell down onto the ground.
The second man went for her chest, but she managed to hold his wrist, stopping the knife from touching her. She booted him on the abdomen before shooting at his legs and hands. Lastly, she did a roundhouse kick to his face, and he flew back to the wall, knocking him out. The other man got up and wrapped his hands around Maki's belly from the back. He then carried her and slammed her on the desk. She groaned in pain.
He came over to her with clenched fists and punched her face. She retaliated by kicking his crotch with her heels and pushed him away. She aimed her gun at his hands and pulled the trigger, but no bullets came out. It turned out that the gun was empty.
"You gotta be kidding me." She grumbled as she threw her pistol away. She got into her fighting stance and was about to fight the man when Umi shot his back twice. He fell onto the ground and whimpered before he turned unconscious. Umi threw her gun away and went to Maki.
"You okay?" She asked with concern.
Maki nodded her head in response, "I could've fought the guy, you know. There's not a need to waste bullets on him."
"I couldn't just stand there and watch my friend fight while I do nothing." Umi patted her shoulder, "Besides, I had two bullets left, so why not?"
"I really hope that's all of the men for now." Maki sighed, "But I know how this always works. As soon as we start to loosen up a bit, there will be more..." Just then, a few more men came out from the other five wardrobes, all holding a knife. Umi picked up two daggers from the floor and passed one to Maki.
"Guess we don't have a choice, do we?" Umi grinned.
Back on the first floor, Zi Yang escorted the employees and the board of directors of DeGeneda out of the ballroom. Some of them were genuinely terrified after they heard gunshots and Eli shooting. He had called for buses to escort them to a safer place while police officers would arrive here later. He wondered if Kanan was doing alright fighting the bad guys.
Jeff was in his truck when he saw someone jump out of the window of a room on the second floor. He strained his eyes to see who it was. As soon as he realized it was Regis, he quickly picked his rifle up and aimed at the car before he pulled the trigger. The first bullet managed to hit the trunk of the car, which was meant as a warning shot for Regis.
Regis turned back from his driver's seat and saw that someone was shooting his car. He buckled his seatbelt and stepped on the gas pedal with force, trying to accelerate. He drifted the car in different directions in hopes of dodging the bullets. He needed to get out of this place through the back gate.
Meanwhile, Jeff continued shooting at the car to try and halt Regis, but the bullets hitting the car didn't deal much damage. With his last bullet, Jeff shot at the rear windscreen, trying to take Regis out by a headshot. Unfortunately, Regis ducked his head, and the bullet pierced through the front windscreen. By then, Regis was barely able to make it to the back gate.
At this moment, Jeff realized he had run out of bullets. He frantically searched for more, but realized he had brought pistol bullets, which was the wrong type of bullets. He looked out of his window and saw Regis's car crashing through the security gate before it drove off onto the main road. Jeff slammed the steering wheel in anger. He knew that he couldn't leave this place to chase Regis as he still had to pick Eli, Maki, and Umi up later. He accepted the defeat with a sigh of disbelief.
