Part 10: Back in Boston
"Alright everyone hold up," Johnny said into his radio as all the trucks came to a stop. They were now in Bills town and Johnny had signaled everyone to stop as they reached buildings with ruined cars around them.
"Whats going on ?" Tommy asked as Joel, Ellie and Johnny got out of their truck.
"We need to make sure there aren't any traps ahead," Johnny said as he started walking forward.
"Bill doesn't get that many visitors," said Joel as he started looking through the alleys between the buildings.
"Johnny also knocked him down when they first met," Ellie said smiling as Lily started walking with her.
"That sounds like a story worth hearing," Tommy said as he followed Johnny towards one of the ruined cars.
With Ellie as they were looking through buildings, "So how do you and Johnny know Bill ?" Lily asked as she looked through cabinets.
"We ran into him on our way out of Boston, Joel said that he could get us a car," said Ellie, "Joel knew him longer because he used to help him smuggle stuff into the city," she said.
"Uh hey," a male voice said from the door. The two of them looked to see Dean from Philips group and they noticed he looked nervous, "Philips with Johnny and Tommy looking for traps, can I help you guys search ?" He asked.
"Sure but why are you looking nervous ?" Ellie asked looking confused.
"Its just some of your group is still nervous around us, which I completely understand," Dean said as he began to look around.
"Yeah feels like we fought you guys for almost a year before you kidnapped some of Conners people," Lily said calmly as she checked her gun, "The day after you guys joined up with us a lot of people werent happy, but they felt relieved after they found out you would be working for Johnny," she said smiling.
"You're his girlfriend right?" Dean asked looking at Ellie.
"In a few years she hopes to be more," Lilly said smiling.
"Shut up," Ellie said as her friend laughed, "Yes I'm his girlfriend," she said.
"How is he able to move things without touching them?" Dean asked as Ellie looked at him.
"Experiments were done on him when he was younger," Ellie said, "He actually has scars from it on his head," she said.
"Oh sorry," Dean said.
"No its okay, honestly we all wondered about it when we saw him do it for the first time," Lily said.
At the bottom near a hill that lead to houses, "Johnny," Philip said getting his and Tommys attention.
"You find anything?" Tommy asked before noticing the small wire going across the road from a large can.
"This could have destroyed one of the trucks," one of Philips men said as Johnny began disabling it.
"This one of Bills traps?" Tommy asked Johnny.
"Looks like it, but its definitely bigger then the ones I saw when we were first here," Johnny said looking around.
"The trap doesn't look that old either," Philip said before they started heading back to the trucks.
Back with Ellie, Lily and Dean. Dean was checking near the entrance when he felt something press into the back of his head, "Don't move one muscle," a male voice said. Dean could tell that the person holding him by gun point was wearing a gas mask.
"Okay," Dean said holding his hands up when Lilly looked surprised.
"Ellie," she said getting her attention.
"No fucking way," She said sounding surprised. The man holding Dean at gun point was wearing a large jacket and had a gas mask on. His hair had grown a little but he had also lost some weight.
"What the fuck," Bill said before a gun pressed in the back of his head.
"Hows it going Bill," Joel said as everyone in the group reached the house where Bill was.
"Ellie," Johnny said walking over when he noticed Bill take off his gas mask.
"Looks like you three are still alive," Bill said, "I thought you said we were square Joel," he said looking annoyed.
"Well we need your help with something, plus we have something you'll need," said Joel.
"Well lets hear it," Bill said as he put his shotgun away, "But not here, theres some people who want to meet Johnny," he said making them all look confused as they looked at one of the people in charge.
They took the trucks further into town with Bill sitting with Joel and Ellie. Johnny flew the rest of the way as they reached an area with multiple two floor houses. There was a small barricade of cars in front of the road.
When Johnny landed on the ground a group of five people walked out of one of the houses, "Hes the one, he was flying," A man said as the trucks pulled in.
"Who are these people?" Tommy asked getting off his bike while the others got off the trucks.
"Their from Boston, a resistance group," said Bill making him and Joel look surprised.
"A resistance group?" Joel asked.
"Things have gotten worse since you all escaped years ago," the man who had spoke up first said.
"Its getting late, so why don't we go inside and you can tell me what you have that I need," Bill said calmly as they walked into one of the houses.
A while later Bill and the people from the resistance group stood looking surprised as Johnny and David finished explaining the cure. Johnny was sitting next to Ellie, his scarred arms being shown to all of them.
"This was really what you signed up for, a cure," said Bill looking at Joel who was standing near the entrance to the room.
"Yeah and trust me ive seen it work," Joel said calmly.
"That many scars how can I not believe it," Bill said before sighing, "Do you have any to spare?" He asked.
"Yes I'll bring a box in now," said David getting up from where he was sitting, "Theres plenty enough for all of you," he said as the people smiled before David headed outside.
"Ill help," Philip said before following him out.
"Anything else you need?" Bill asked.
"We need your help getting back into Boston," said Joel.
"You mean you'll help us," a woman from the resistance said looking excited.
"Sure but we were going there to get more people to join up with us," Ellie said calmly, "But how do you know about Johnny?" She asked.
"Some people talk about him over the radio, they were probably scouts from other groups that saw what he did," a man from the resistance said.
"We have radios, why didn't you ever try to contact us?" One of the men from Conners group asked looking serious.
"We didn't have a way to talk, we could only hear you," one of the women from the resistance said.
"Apparently the military doesn't go past here so they don't run into you," Bill said looking at Johnny.
"Must have heard what you had done to that town," said Joel and Johnny nodded.
"Just how bad is the military's leader?" He asked looking at the man from the resistance group who had spoken up.
"They have us working day and night," a man said clenching his fists.
"We almost lost people to infected," another one said.
"Then it's the supplies," a woman from the group said looking down.
"Apparently they've been keeping the biggest supplies for the soldiers, the civilians are barely getting any," Bill said. "They contact me a few times to bring supplies in for them, but it started getting more dangerous," he said.
"Apparently you can get more supplies if you agree to join their military," said the man still clenching his fists. "The man in charge saids its so they can keep protecting us, but now we don't even have enough medical supplies for everyone and people are starving," he said looking down.
"Will help," said Johnny looking serious as he stood up.
"Hang on," Bill said as he took out a map. He then put it on a table revealing it was a map of a city, "I know a road that's still intact, so you can at least get the trucks close to the city wall," he said.
"Youll help us?" Joel asked.
"After hearing all that and getting a cure, ill at least help you get inside," Bill said before picking up the map.
"Bill," Johnny said getting his attention. "Thanks," he said. Bill just nodded before leaving the room to get his supplies ready. A few hours later it was getting dark as the trucks drove into Boston. They eventually reached the end of the road that had collapsed.
"What do we do about the cure ?" One of the people from the resistance asked.
"We got bags for them, will make sure they stay safe," one of Conners men said as they started to load the syringes into them. The group then started walking on foot.
"Whoa," Ellie said as they looked in front of them to see one of the tall buildings. The other one had collapsed to the ground.
"They used explosives to bring it down around two years ago," the man from the resistance said.
"This is actually where I leave supplies for them," Bill said as he lead them through the collapsed building. When they reached the other side they could see the wall and the spotlights were on.
"Alright the entrance is not far from here," the man from the resistance said before they all heard the sound of engines.
"Damnit," Bill said as everyone took out their guns and David stood with Conners men to protect the cure. They were then surrounded by three military trucks with four people in the back of each of them. Only one person got out of the front.
"No, they must have seen us leave and have been waiting for us to come back," the man from the resistance said looking surprised.
"All of you drop your weapons now and surrender peacefully," one of the soldiers said stepping forward.
"Johnny," Ellie said.
"Alright, everyone," Johnny said before one of the groups got shot down with arrows.
"What the," One of the Soldiers said before Johnny stepped forward and pushed his hands forward. The two trucks still with people in them were sent flying towards the wall screaming before Joel and Bill shot down the last three.
"Chris your back," a man in a coat said walking over with four other people. "Our informant told Jesse that people saw you leave a few days ago," he said.
"Sorry about that," Chris said looking down.
"No need to worry, we better get going because after that much noise their going to want to know what happened," he said before leading the group to a sewer entrance. After open the hatch the group was lead into the city. They eventualy reached a large open area and Johnny was surprised at how many people there were.
"They started hunting us down after we started taking food, so we had to start hiding," Chris said as he noticed Johnnys group looking around.
"Do you have enough food to go around," Tommy said looking worried as he noticed some of the people looking at them.
"A few months at best if were lucky," Chris said looking down.
"Good thing Leo gave us some extra supplies before we left," Philip said before they reached a large tent. In front of it sitting on a crate was a man with short hair.
"Sir, we found him," Chris said and the man looked up surprised.
"Tommy," he said rushing over to him.
"Derek, your actually alive," Tommy said as the two former fireflies hugged.
"Didn't know he would be with you," Derek said before looking at Johnny, "Thank you for coming, I would like to say we need to take the ciity back now but something important came up," he said.
"What is it," Johnny said before a female voice spoke up.
"Derek, we found out where Clare is," she said walking over to Derek before looking surprised at someone. "Joel," she said.
Johnny and Ellie looked at Joel who looked surprised by the woman's appearance, "Hey Jesse its been a while," he said rubbing the back of his head.
"Yeah it has," she said. Johnny and Ellie looked at each other confused. Just how did she know Joel?
