A/N: And this chapter is a little shorter because a certain Sun and Moon pair bit the dust much earlier than in canon.

The Assassins of Fairy Tail

Job Forty Two: The Assassin's Message

"I am Zera. One of the Fairies of Origin." All Gajeel can do was stare at the young girl that appeared before him. There was silence between the two until Zera's body began to tremble and quickly ran behind a nearby tree while covering her eyes in embarrassment. "I just can't do it! Oh, I'm so nervous! I'm not good at meeting new people!"

If this was hell, Gajeel thought it was strange one of its inhabitants acted this way. "The hell's her deal?" He still had questions he wanted to ask the younger ghost girl. "So, are we in heaven or in hell? Spit it out already."

Zera peeked from behind the tree and barely made eye contact with the iron dragon slayer. "Neither. On the contrary, you're still alive." Gajeel was still wary of Zera and didn't say anything back to her. "By complete happenstance, someone activated a powerful magic which distorted the world itself, resulting in people being transferred to random locations. So, I'm guessing when you were on the verge of being drawn into the underworld, the magic shifted your destination and you ended up all the way out here. Sound about right?"

Now it struck Gajeel like a train once the realization set in. "Holy crap!" He then remembered what he said to Levy right before Bloodman's dying attempt to drag him to the underworld with him and became embarrassed. The iron dragon slayer quickly got over his embarrassment and looked at Zera again. "Where the hell are we anyway?"

"Tenrou Island," Zera replied. "It's fused to the continent by now, but this is Fairy Tail's holy land."

That wasn't something Gajeel was expecting to hear. An island merging to the mainland? That was certainly a first. He received an answer to one of his questions, but his first remained unanswered. "And who're y-"

"I told you, I'm Zera!"

That still didn't tell Gajeel much about the younger girl. "That name means nothing to me. Just tell me who you are!"

Zera tsked and seemed slightly miffed. Ugh, that Mavis. I guess she hasn't talked about me to any of the guild members, huh." She had a theory as to why she appeared in the first place. "This is also just another coincidence, but Mavis, who had been in a long state of stasis, finally woke up at the exact moment the World Reconstruction Magic was cast. And as a reaction to her awakening, I was born. No, I suppose it would be more appropriate to say I was revived." Gajeel was having a hard time following what Zera was explaining to him. "Basically, for a brief moment, Mavis's magic and thought process were reset. Due to that, my existence was temporarily, and subconsciously restored."

Gajeel didn't catch all of that, but he could understand some of what Zera explained to him. "you lost me a while ago, but I guess what you're trying to say is you were born because of some effect of the First Master waking up?"

Zera gave him a small nod. "Well, in layman's terms, yes, I guess that's accurate. But just to be clear, this is only temporary." She had a slight somber expression on her face. "The very instant Mavis remembers everything regarding me, in all likelihood, I'll vanish." Once again, Gajeel didn't say anything to Zera. Regardless of her situation, Zera did look on the bright side of her reappearance. "It may be for a short while, but since I've finally been revived and all...I guess I'll have to pull my weight while I'm here, huh?" Zera then realized something about the entire time she's been talking Gajeel and came out behind the tree. "Wait a minute, you hear my voice, right? And you can see me, right?!"

Gajeel didn't know why she would get excited over that, but it seemed like it meant a lot to her. "Uh, yeah."

Zera's face lit up upon hearing Gajeel's answer. "Mavis...her magic's gotten a lot stronger!"

The iron dragon slayer felt like he wasted enough time and turned away from Zera. "I hate to break it to you, but I ain't got time to be playing around in a place like this."

Zera gave Gajeel a determined smile. "Of course! I'm on your side after all! Let's go, we'll protect Fairy Tail together!"

B

Natsu, Lucy, and Akame were standing in front of the two buildings, Kardia Cathedral and the royal palace, Mercurius. Lucy was both amazed and confused seeing them so close to each other. "Kardia Cathedral and Royal Palace..."

Natsu was more confused at what he was seeing. "The hell's going on? Are you telling me Magnolia and Crocus have fused together?"

Happy was up in the sky to see from a bird's eye view to see if there was anything else surrounding the two buildings. "But the guild's not here! Not only that, the entire town, all of the other buildings are gone!" He flew back down to join the others.

Lucy was still having a hard time believing any of this was real. "This has got to be a joke."

The only one not wondering what was going on was Akame. She was too busy feeling overwhelmed by the terrifyingly powerful aura she was sensing. Sensing August's aura for the first time was one thing, but another that was on the same impossible level as his? To her, this was neither the time nor the place to confront someone who was just as powerful as August. "We have to get far away from here as possible."

Lucy turned to Akame's direction and saw the worried expression on the other girl's face. "Akame?"

Natsu quickly sensed something and turned his attention to the corner of a large rock. "Someone's coming. This smell..."

All three approached the corner carefully and they were all surprised to see who it was. "Gray!"

"Juvia!"

Gray and Juvia shared the other group's happiness. "Natsu, Akame.."

"Lucy, and Happy too!"

Akame asked the question on Natsu's Lucy's mind. "How did you two end up here?"

"We were just walking around trying to figure out where we were," Juvia replied.

"We were on our way back to the guild," Juvia added.

Lucy sighed tiredly as soon as Juvia mentioned the guild. "Being at the guild sounds really good right about now."

Happy had other priories to worry about. "I don't know about you guys, but I'm so worried about Carla."

Speaking of Carla, Akame noticed it was just Gray and Juvia. "What happened to the others?"

Gray rubbed the back of his head. "Leone was with us when we were leaving Hargeon, but then that weird bright light showed up."

"The next thing we knew, we ended up in a different place and she wasn't with us," Juvia explained further. "We tried calling her name, but we didn't hear a response."

"And she didn't come back to us since she was still in her beast form." Gray finished. So, not only everyone was separated from each other; they were all sent to random locations as well. If that was true, then the same could be said for Wendy and the others that were with them. Gray sighed out of frustration. "Anyway, we still don't have a clue of where the guild went.

This was one of the few times Natsu agreed with the ice mage. "This is going to be a huge pain in our asses."

Meanwhile, within the royal palace, the royal guards, the Garou Knights, and Arcadios were all laid on the floor utterly defeated by Irene's hand. Arcardios was shaken to his core by how powerful their enemy was. "W-What monstrous strength. It defies logic." Irene seemed quite pleased with herself in wiping out her enemies with ridiculous ease.

In fear for his daughter's life, Toma stood in front of Hisui as a means to protect her. "I...I beg of you! Do with me what you will, but please, my daughter...spare my daughter!" Irene only smiled at the frightened princess before pointing her hand at her and Hisui cried out in pain as a shocking light surrounded her. Toma and Arcardios became instantly worried about the princess. Within a few seconds, Hisui had transformed into a small mouse. Toma was almost speechless at what he was seeing. "Wha...What have you done!?"

Arcadios himself wouldn't have believed what happened to the princess if he'd not seen it himself. "She transformed the princess into a mouse?"

Irene scoffed at the king. "Do you still love even in that pathetic form?" The mouse Hisui looked up at her father with teary eyes. The Scarlett Despair gave a sadistic expression. "Can you truly look her in the eyes and say you love her?"

Toma picked up his daughter and though he began to cry, nothing has changed for him about his only daughter. "Of course I can you fiend! No matter how she looks, she'll always be my daughter!" He held his daughter close to him. "Worry not, Hisui. I shall return you to your original form, even it kills me."The display of his love for Hisui soured Irene's mood. A parent loving their daughter. She hated the very idea itself. She closed her eyes and sighed as Irene decided she's had seen enough and vanished before everyone's eyes.

Outside, Akame gasped when she no longer felt that same powerful aura. "It's gone? Just like that?"

Lucy noticed how the other girl was acting again. "Is everything alright, Akame?"

Akame looked back at Lucy. "Yeah, everything's fine." She looked away and continued to think about that powerful aura. "There's no doubt that aura belongs to a member of the Twelve. That person may be gone for now, but sooner or later, we'll have to face them." That was something Akame was not looking forward to in the future.

Loud sounds of fighting could be heard on the beach as Fairy Tail engaged the nearby Alverez army. Makarov grew into a large size punched several of them out of the way. "Little whelps! There's no end to them!" The other members were doing their best in defeating the enemy and pushing them back.

Mirajane and Lisanna were fighting off a small group of enemies and Lisanna couldn't stop thinking about what happened to Chelsea. "I hope Chelsea's alright, wherever she is."

Mirajane overheard her younger sister as she defeated another soldier. She couldn't help but smile at Lisanna. "You know, I think Chelsea would make a nice addition to our family."

Lisanna momentarily paused and turned to face her sister with her face immediately reddened. "This is no time for jokes, Mira!"

Cana threw several cards at an enemy and quickly took him down. She turned to Warren while he was looking at his monitor. "We need to get back to the guild immediately!"

Warren was trying his best but still couldn't figure out what was what. "But I've got no clue where it is!"

"The guild is this way."

Everyone in Fairy Tail was caught off guard when they heard a voice directly transmitted to their minds. Chelsea couldn't help but feel a little creeped out by it. "Hey, you didn't happen to hear a voice in your head, right?"

Leone shared the same reaction as the other girl. "No, I heard it too."

Chelsea sighed in relief. "Oh, good. I thought I was starting to go insane."

"Make for the guild! Everyone! You must gather at once! You've all been separated due to the enemy's magic, but now is the time to act as one!"

Natsu and the others were looking at the direction the voice told them to go. "So, the guild's over that way, eh?"

"I guess we have no choice but to go."

"Aye."

"Let's be real, though, is this voice trustworthy?"

"Could it yet another love rival?"

"Somehow, I doubt that." Akame did agree with Gray, though. Could they trust this voice, or was it an enemy leading them to a trap?

"Mavis is in a lot of trouble! She is like a mother-like figure to all of you!"

Chelsea thought that was going a little too far for her. "Whoa, whoa, whoa! It could be because we just joined, but I do not see Mavis as my mother figure!"

"Head towards the guild and make haste! Return to the guild, to Mavis's side, and protect her!"

A couple of guild members quickly found out what direction the voice was coming from and where they needed to go. "The voice is guiding us in the direction of the guild."

Warren pointed the way to go. "So, then it's that way!"

Lucy and Juvia were wondering who exactly this mysterious voice was and Gray was wary of it. "Whose voice is that anyway?"

Natsu could care less about that and smiled. "Beats me. Let's get going!"

Back on Tenrou Island, Zera couldn't help but feel a little embarrassed. She wasn't used to talking to another person, let alone talk to an entire guild. Gajeel noticed the way she talked quite easily. "you don't do this much, do you? You're far too high-handed. Next time, you might want to try injected a bit of charm and delicacy along with your message."

"I'm starting to wonder if you're really friends with the first."

Levy immediately heard Gajeel's voice and so did Lily. Lily himself could scarcely believe it himself. "This voice...there's no mistaking it."

The other guild members recognized Gajeel's voice as well. "It's Gajeel!

If Gajeel was with this voice, then that was good enough for Cana and the others to trust it. "That means the voice from before's got to be an ally!"

Natsu and the others began to head toward the guild where the voice was leading them. "Alright! Time to head home to our guild! We can't keep the First Master waiting!"

Levy was in tears as she didn't think she'd hear Gajeel's voice ever again. "Gajeel..."

"To the north!" Makarov shouted and pointed toward the north while everyone in the guild charged in that direction. "Make for the north, you lot!" They had to get through the Alverez army first, but even they wouldn't stop them from reaching the guild.

Mirajane turned her attention to her younger sister. "Lisanna, have you seen Elfman?"

Lisanna closed her eyes and shook her head before opening them. "No, he's also nowhere to be found."

Mirajane couldn't help but feel worried about their missing sibling. "So, that light separated him from us as well."

Her younger sister shared the feeling. "We can only hope that voice from before reached him as well." Both sisters looked at each other briefly before moving on with the rest of the guild.

Chelsea and Leone looked off in the direction where the voice they heard earlier was guiding them. "So, the guild is over that way, huh?"

Leone stretched her arm out and grunted loudly. "Seems that way." She finished stretching and let out a refreshed sigh. "Well, come on. Let's not keep the poor girl waiting. Gotta save her from her deranged ex-boyfriend and his army."

The other girl let out an exhausted sigh. "Great. That shouldn't be too much a problem. Okay, I'll-eep!"

Leone managed to pick Chelsea up and was carrying her on her back. Chelsea wrapped both arms around Leone's neck while the blonde was supporting her with her one arm. "We don't know how far it really is and you need to save up on your magic. We're traveling the old-fashioned way. So, hold on tight and don't let go." Chelsea did just that and wrapped her arms tighter around Leone. She knew this was going to be a very rough ride. Leone smiled and leaned slightly forward before launching herself off the statue and left a small crater as a result as the two were headed toward the guild. All while Chelsea was screaming in terror.

Walking through a forest, Elfman was leading Yukino, Frocsh, and Lector in the direction where the guild was. "It seems we'll make it to Fairy Tail if we continue this way."

Yukino had no qualms about Eflman's guidance. "I see. So, that's what Miss Voice told you just now."

Something about Elfman only hearing the voice bugged Lector. "But why is that only Elfman could hear the voice?"

"Fro didn't hear it either."

Elfman had a pretty good idea why he couldn't only hear it and not the others. "If that's the case, then it must have been a voice only Fairy Tail members could hear."

That would be the most logical conclusion for Yukio. "It didn't reach my ears either. Will things really be alright if we head to the guild?"

Frosch felt a little sad and missed Rogue. "Fro wants to see Rogue."

Lector knew exactly how to cheer up his friend. "Assuming Sting and the others ended up together with someone from Fairy Tail, I'm sure they're making for the guild right about now too, yep."

As he planned, Frosch perked up a bit. "Rogue too?"

Elfman knew they really weren't left much of an option at this point and had no choice but to follow the voice's directions. "At any rate, our only option right now is to trust the voice and continue our way."

Suddenly, they heard a rustle not too far from them. Yukino and the others turned in the direction where they heard the noise and saw a shadowy figure approach them. When the figure was revealed in the light, Yukino's eyes widened with disbelief. Never in her life, she thought she'd be able to see her once again. Her older sister, Sorano. "Sister?"

Sorano shared Yukino's expression and she couldn't believe who she was seeing right in front of her as well. "Yuki...no?"

Elfman and the others looked between the two sisters before being shocked beyond belief together. "HUUUUUUUUH!?"
