Part 20: Meeting the WLF
Johnny opened a can of food as he sat down against a tree. Sitting to his right was Leo and to his left was Tommy who opened a can as well, "Already missing home cooking," Tommy said as he started eating.
"Don't remind me," Leo said looking down.
"We lived on canned food for so long you think wed be use to it," Chris said as he ate, "But then we finally started farming and eating on plates again," he said.
"Probably got to use to it," Lily said from where she was sitting next to Dean.
"Looks like their doing the same," he said looking over at Abbys group who were sitting away from them.
Johnny noticed one of them men looking over at them angrily, "Hes been doing that a few times," Lily said.
"We did capture them," Steven said.
"Some of them are still probably not happy with Abbys decision to let me and Joel go," Johnny said.
"Well we didn't shoot one of them in the leg," Chris said calmly before eating.
"So whats the plan," one of them women from Abbys group said.
"What do you mean," Owen asked.
"I think she means how are we going to explain that the people we went after are still alive," one of the men said looking annoyed.
"We tell them the truth by saying we got the cure and they want to make a truce with us," Abby said calmly.
"What about all the people the others have lost because of the infection," the man said.
"Hey weve lost people too," Leo said as he walked by them and Johnny heard him speak.
"Well we wouldn't have lost so many if we had gotten a cure sooner," the man said standing up.
"Johnny," Steven said as he watched the leader get up from the ground.
"Well a lot of my group were killed by actual people," Leo said.
"Stand down right now," Abby said standing up.
"Alright," the man said looking annoyed.
"Cmon Leo," Johnny said as the two of them walked over to Tommy and Chris.
"I'd watch out for them if I was you," Chris said.
"Hes got a point, people who think differently can be dangerous, remember the military leader from Boston," Leo said.
"Yeah I do, heres hoping things out differently then back then," Johnny said as he ate.
"Oh hey how about we give him the weapon," one of Chris men said standing up.
"Might as well, go get it," Chris said while the others look confused.
"What are you hiding," Tommy said when the man came back with something wrapped in brown paper. He handed it to Johnny who almost dropped it.
"Its definitely heavy," he said before unwrapping the paper and finding a sword in a sheathe.
"Is that for real," Steven said as Johnny stood up and took out the sword.
"Since were using bows one of the men from my group decided to make a few of those," Chris said smiling, "That's one of the first he made,".
"Thanks Chris," Johnny said as he did a few practice swings, "Thought its going to take some getting used to," he said before putting it away.
"Well lets hope you wont have to use it much on this trip," Tommy said before sitting bakc.
The next morning Johnny was patrolling with the sword sheathe at his side. He found an open area and started practice swinging with his sword, "Hey," Abby said walking over to him.
"Camp packed up," Johnny said as he put his sword away without looking at her.
"Yeah, but theres something you need to know," Abby said making him look confused, "I told my father to do the surgery," she said.
Johnny stood still as his hand was still on the sword handle, "Told its what I would have wanted," she said.
"You didn't give her a choice," he said said as he took a breath before letting the handle go.
"Your right, but after everything we've been through," Abby said.
"Lets just focus on getting to Seattle," he said before he began to walk away and then stopped, "The fireflies at the bunker betrayed me,".
"Even after all the time I spent with them," he said.
"I'm sorry," Abby said.
"Lets just focus on moving forward," Johnny said before looking back at her with a serious look on his face..
"Sounds good," Abby said as the two of them walked to the trucks. As they got closer to Seattle they noticed the gates were closed. "Something isn't right," Owen said as he got out of the truck.
"Whats the problem," Tommy said as he and Johnny got out of their truck.
"There's usually someone stationed out here, something must have happened while we were gone," Owen said.
"Anyway we can get it open," Tommy said.
"Theres a generator on the other side, any chance you can find away over the wall," Abby said.
"No need," Johnny said before flying into the air and landing on the other side. He found the generator and was able to hook it up before opening the gate.
"That sure comes in handy," Tommy said as he opened the truck door for him.
"There should be people stationed further in, lets keep moving," Abby said as they drove further into the city.
When they passed a building they noticed infected inside. They then took them out before following Abbys instructions and headed further into the city. After a few minutes they found a truck heading towards them, "Hold up," Johnny said speaking into the radio before the trucks stopped. Johnny got out as a man got out of the truck in front of them.
"Who are you," he said aiming his assault rifle at them.
"Wait hold up," Abby said running forward.
"Abby, where are the others," the man said.
"Their safe, but we need to go see Isaac now," he said.
"Alright, but who are these people with you," he said aiming his rifle at the truck.
"They're here to help, its important we get something to a base now," Abby said.
"Alright follow us," he said before an arrow hit his truck.
"Johnny," Leo said before shooting at a man that was on a roof across from them.
"Open fire," Johnny said taking out his bow and arrow. He started firing as more men stood on roof with bows and arrows.
"Ahh," Chris said falling against a truck as an arrow hit his shoulder.
"CHRIS," Tommy yelled as he ran over to him while Johnny took down the shooter.
"Looks like thats all of them," Owen said as Johnny ran over to Chris and Tommy.
"We need to get it out," Tommy said.
"Hang on, this is going to hurt," Johnny said as one of Chris men held his hand.
"Ahh," he yelled in pain as Johnny pulled out the arrow.
"If that's what an arrow feels like I hate to feel what a bullet is," Chris said.
"We need to get him to a base, we have medical supplies," Mel said walking over with some bandages.
"Thank you," Johnny said as he got back up.
"Come on, we know a quick route there," the man from the other truck said. After a few minutes they reached a tall building that was acting as a WLF base. There were multiple trucks and tents set up outside. Johnny noticed a shooting range as he and Tommy got out of the truck.
"Mel your alright," a woman said walking over.
"This man is injured and also send some people to the truck at the far back," Mel said as Chris's men helped him off the truck.
"Hey whats in this box anyway," a man said picking up a box that Mel mentioned.
"Something important and you better not drop it," Abby said knowing it contained the cure. She then walked over to Johnny and Tommy, "Isaac will want to talk to you," she said.
"Alright, we just need to set up our people somewhere," Tommy said as he and Johnny lead their people to an open area. They then followed Abby and Owen into the building.
"Looks like you have a lot going on here," Tommy said they walked past a room with people looking at a map.
"Seattles a big place and theres a lot people here," Owen said before he noticed Abby looking into another room. Johnny noticed she looked annoyed and then saw doctors giving people injections.
"I still don't trust that stuff," Abby said as they walked to the elevator.
"Isaac said its to help them out and it has," Owen said before pressing a button as they went up.
"I'm still not taking it," Abby said looking serious.
"Fair enough," Owen said as Johnny and Tommy looked at each other. The elevator stopped and they went down the hallway finding two men guarding a door.
"We need to speak with him," Abby said walking up to the one of the guards.
"Alright sounds like their almost finished anyway," the guard said as they opened the door.
"They should be ready soon," one man said making Johnny look surprised.
"Abby, Owen I'm glad you made it back," Isaac said standing up and so did the other man.
"No way," Tommy said as he recognized the second man.
"Tommy and," the man said before looking shocked at Johnny.
Johnny clenched his fists as he remembered the man in front of him. The last words he heard from him were, "Doctor Drake,".
"Its you," he said angrily as he grabbed the handle of his sword. Looking at the former assistant of the man who gave him his power.
