Part 23: Mike

As the group of Johnnys team and Abby walked past the buildings in Seattle, there was silence between them after they had just killed members of the WLF. Abbys now former group.

"Did you hear anything about your friend?" Johnny asked breaking the silence.

"I got a report that they encountered scars last week, he went missing when his group got attacked and has been missing ever since," Abby said, "Given the time since hes been gone they're assuming the worst,".

"Who are you guys talking about," Darren said.

"After Salt Lake City me, Owen along with some of the others ended up here, we ended up finding the WLF and ended up joining up with them," Abby said, "I became more focused on hunting Joel and Johnny down that I ignored Owen and we broke up,".

"Didn't David say hes the father of Mels baby," Steven said.

"Sorry he found someone else," Lily said.

"Thanks, but Mike was there for me when I was feeling down, I remember when we would have extra ammo lying around and we would see who could get better shots," Abby said with a small smile, "How did Ellie get some sense into you after what happened in the bunker?" She asked looking at Johnny.

"She slapped me across the face when I tried to leave," he said.

"Yeah I remember when Ellie told me and Rachel about that," Lily said.

"It felt like the only thing that mattered to me was getting a cure made and nothing else," Johnny said, "But Ellie helped me see things differently, even after I lost everything there was still people who cared about me and I care alot about her," he said smiling.

"You didn't get together then though right," Darren said.

"No that was," Johnny said before looking ahead and realizing they were standing in front of the entrance to the subway.

"Some parts of it are collapsed, so we should be careful," Abby said as they made sure they're guns were loaded. They walked down the steps and walked through the paths. They found one of the tunnels collapsed and headed down another path.

"Damnit," Abby said pointing her flashlight ahead and they noticed spores. Abby quickly put her gas mask on and then looked at the other four, "What are you doing,".

"The spores don't infect us anymore," Lily said.

"Wait the cure can do that," Abby said looking surprised.

"Wait you didn't take one," Johnny said looking surprised.

"I was more focused on finding the three of you," Abby said.

"Don't worry I got this," Dean said taking off his backpack and took out a small box containing a few syringes of the cure.

"Wait you walk around with that stuff," Abby said.

"After what happened with Philips wife we make sure to carry around a few just in case we find someone bitten," Johnny said as Dean handed a syringe to Lily who gave her the cure, "It might take a while to take effect so keep the mask on till we get out of here," he said.

"Right," Abby said before they heard the sound of a clicker. They walked down the path and found an opening in one of the paths. They squeezed through and found themselves on top of a stairway. They walked down finding an old train and tunnel.

"There they are," Lily said pointing at the clickers behind the glass.

"Quick someones coming," Steven said as they quickly got behind cover as someone threw flares into the room from another stairway. There was group of people wielding assault rifles.

"You sure they came through here," a male voice said.

"Yeah we haven't heard from the ones that are suppose to be guarding the guy with that power," a female voice said before the clickers started heading towards them.

"Quick take them down," one of the men said as they started firing when one of the clickers reached one of the men.

"Johnny," Dean said as Johnny quickly stood up and shot the clicker and the soldier.

"They maybe against us but I wouldn't want that to happen to anyone," he said.

"Agreed," Abby said as they started fighting and shooting the infected.

"Traitor," the female voice from earlier said aiming her rifle at Abby before Lily shot her in the head with her pistol.

"No," one of the men said before Johnny snapped his neck. He ran out of ammo for his pistol and put it away as he ran at the last clicker with his sword and cut its head off. Steven shot down the last soldier before they all reloaded and walked down the tunnel.

They then reached a pile of rocks blocking the rest, "What now," Lily said looking annoyed.

"Hey what about here," Darren said pointing at the door. Johnny opened the door while holding his sword. Abby used her flashlight and they found a path.

"This should take us to another tunnel, but there's probably more infected this way," Abby said.

"Its probably too soon to the surface since we know their looking for us now," Johnny said before walking in with the others following him and having their weapons out. They fought through a few infected before reaching an open area. They were in another tunnel with a hole in the ceiling. There was wreckage of two trains that had crashed.

"Recognize any of the buildings?" Steven asked looking at Abby.

"No, we never did many patrols in this area," she said before they headed down the crowd and started walking through the wreckage. They climbed a truck that had fallen down before heading into one of the trains. When they were all in it shook.

"Oh no," Steven said as the train began to tip over.

"Everyone grab onto something," Johnny said as the train fell over and Lily slid out at the bottom.

"LILY," Dean yelled sliding after her with Johnny following him.

"I'm okay," she said before she saw an infected running towards her and Johnny sent it flying into the wall, "Look out," she said pointing behind them and they look to see a large group of infected heading towards them. Johnny quickly put his sword away before taking out his assault rifle and began firing.

"Theres the stairway," Steven said pointing it out while Abby shot down some of the infected.

"Everyone move," Johnny said as they ran to the stairway while every few seconds Johnny and Abby shot at the infected.

"Oh no," Dean said noticing a blockage at the gates.

"There's an opening above," Lily said pointing at the hole in the wall.

Johnny noticed and then put his assault rifle away and ran towards the infected, "What are you doing," Abby said sounding angry.

"AHH," Johnny yelled pushing his hands forward and sending a large group of the infected back down the stairs. Some of them causing the others behind them to fall over.

"Everyone through now," Steven said getting their attention. The four of them climbed through the hole while Johnny flew through the opening. Then two infected tried to reach them through the gates when arrows hit them in the head.

"Come on move," a male voice said and they looked to see a man and woman wearing coats.

"Alright lets go," Johnny said as he noticed the serious look on Abbys face. They ran out of the subway and to their surprised they were right in front of the movie theatre. The man in the coat opened the doors and they ran in before he closed them.

"That was close," Lily said before they looked to see Abby aiming her gun at the man who had saved them.

"What are you," the woman in the coat said looking surprised.

"Don't move," Abby said.

"Abby are you out of your mind," Darren said looking annoyed.

"Look at their faces, their scars," Abby said not lowering her gun.

"Whats going on out here," a male voice said making Abby looking surprised. Johnny looked to see a short haired man standing next to a familiar person.

"Leo," Johnny said looking surprised.

"Johnny, your alive," he said looking relieved before quickly walking over and shaking hands with him.

"Where's Tommy," Johnny said.

"We never met up with him, but we did find the rest of Chris's men," Leo said.

"Wait what about Chris," Steven said and then they noticed he had a nervous look on his face.

"Mike," Abby said looking at the man that was with Leo.

"Abby," he said before the woman hugged him looking relieved.

"I thought you were gone," she said before backing away, "Why are you with them," she said pointing at the man and woman in coats.

"It's a long story, can we talk inside," he said pointing at the doors behind him.

"Mike shes WLF," the woman said looking serious.

"So are some of the others inside and she doesn't know how we ended up like this," Mike said looking serious.

"Will put up the barricade, just in case some of the infected got through," the man said.

"Thanks, come we can talk in here," he said before leading them into the theatre. Johnny looked surprised to see a large group of people in seats. Some of them were wearing coats like the man and woman they saw. There were people in others clothes that didn't have scars.

"They're from both sides," Steven said.

"Come on we can talk near the stage," Mike said before leading them to the front of the stage. Leo and Chris's men joining them.

"Alright a week ago we were out on patrol when we came across the two you met outside, they were running away from the island because things were getting to bad for them and they wanted to find a new way to live, but one of men with me wanted to kill them on the spot," Mike said.

"Because they had scars," Abby said and Mike nodded.

"I knew they were telling the truth and wanted to let them go but they called me a traitor because of all the people we lost because of their group, I told them to run and my own men shot at me," he said as he pointed at the bandage on his right arm.

"How did you get away?" Dean asked.

"They came back for me and brought me here, they patched me up and we started trying to figure out a way out of the city," Mike said, "Honestly I was hoping to leave soon so I could find you before you got back," he said looking at Abby.

She said nothing and instead looked around, "I suppose everyone hear knows that story," she said and Mike nodded.

"There were people questioning things on each side and were getting tired of fighting, plus a lot of WLF members didn't like the way they lied about me," Mike said.

"You always did try to keep things calm," Abby said, "I'm going to need a few minutes," she said before heading towards the exit.

"Abby," Mike said.

"Go, from what I hear she could really use a friend right now," Johnny said. Mike then nodded at him.

"Thanks, if any of you are injured we have something set up over there," he said pointing at the left side seating area. He then went after Abby while Johnny looked at Leo with a serious look on his face.

"Whats going on with Chris," he said.

"Hes still at the main base, the doctor said he needed time to recover," Leo said.

"Tell him how they tricked us," one of Chris's men said looking annoyed.

"Yeah we got tricked too, they were after Johnny and the doctors journal," Steven said.

"Why would they be after Johnny," Leo said looking confused. Johnny then explained about the doctors assistant working with the WLF leader. A lot of them looked annoyed.

"Tommy wasn't probably happy to see him," Leo said.

"Trust me neither of us were," Johnny said.

"Anyway turns out the soldiers bringing us to that new base new the place we were going through was filled with scars," Leo said.

"So he wanted you all killed," Steven said.

"Not sure, we overheard on the radio about Isaac wanting some of us to join him," Leo said.

"Probably wanted to get Tommy killed because of his connection to Johnny," Lily said looking angry.

"So now Chris is their hostage," Steven said looking angry. He then noticed Johnnys fists were clenched.

"Don't worry about Chris, he wont go down easy," one of his men said smiling.

"So what do we do Johnny, I'm not sure if Tommy heard we were meeting up here," Leo said looking at Johnny who took a breath before speaking.

"After everything we went through today we could do with a little break, lets wait for Mike to come back then will make a decision," he said.

"Sounds good to me," Steven said before sitting in the nearest chair.

Johnny watched everyone else find a place to sit. He then looked at the people of Mikes group and noticed some of them were injured. There was one man putting a bandage on soomeone with a scar.

"They must have been injured getting supplies for the people here," he thought. He then looked determined, now knowing what he had to do next.
