Part 24: Helping
While Johnnys group in Seattle were waiting for what they were going to do next. Back in Jackson Maria was at the front gate as some people brought in supplies. "Thanks again, but you didn't have to do this," Maria said looking at Derrick as people from his group finished unloading the food they brought from Boston.
"Think of it as a thank you," he said, "With less time on military training weve had time to focus on farming again,".
"Almost feels like I barely have to go on supply runs these days," Bill said walking over with a gun and some members of Philips group.
"You going out on Patrol?" Maria asked.
"There were a lot of infected during the storm, were going to make sure there's none left in the area," Bill said as he and a group of people left the through the front gate.
"Hey Maria," Joel said getting her attention. She looked to see him walking over with Jessie and Ellie.
"Hey Ms Grayson, how are you holding up," Maria said and Ellie smiled from the name.
"I'm alright, has there been any word on the radio yet?" She asked.
"Know and Philips keeping me updated, his wife said he checks every night before going to sleep," Maria said.
"How is he holding up with his new position," Jessie said knowing about Philips background before he ended up working for Johnny.
"Hes doing fine, if anything hes working hard so he wont let anyone down," Maria said before she saw someone running towards them.
"Ellie," Jesse said getting her attention.
"Jesse, whats wrong," Ellie said looking confused.
"I went to Dinas but she didn't open the door, I think there might be something wrong," he said.
"Alright," Ellie said.
"Here ill come with you, Ill see you at home," Jessie said looking at Joel who nodded at her. Ever since Abby shot him he hasn't been going out of Jackson and had to walk around with a walking stick.
Ellie and Jessie reached Dinas home and knocked on the door, "Dina are you there, Jesses been looking for you," Ellie said and heard nothing.
"Shes got the cure right," Jessie said.
"Yeah she was right behind my team when they got theirs," Ellie said before opening the door.
"Dina its just us, are you home," Jessie said before they heard noises from upstairs.
"Dina," Ellie said running up the stairs with Jessie not far behind her. When they reached the bathroom they saw Dina sitting down next to toilet.
"Oh, hey Ellie how are you feeling," Dina said as she wiped her mouth and started to get up.
"How am I feeling, I'm not the one sitting next to the toilet after throwing up," Ellie said as she helped Dina into her bedroom, "Jesses worried about you, he came running to us at the gate," she said and then looked confused when Dina put a hand on her stomach.
"Oh yeah I was suppose to go eat with him later, Ill have to apologize to him," she said smiling a little.
"Dina is there something else going on, it has been a while since the storm and you looked fine when we were having Johnny and Ellies wedding," Jesse said looking serious.
"I'm fine, besides you got other things to worry about," Dina said before walking down to the living room.
"Hey I'm still fine and I'm not even showing yet," Ellie said looking serious as Dian sat down on the couch.
"Yeah but your husbands gone off to another city to fight another battle," Dina said.
"Yeah but hes come out of tough situations before, we took back Boston didn't we," Ellie said.
"Yeah but wasn't he out for a few days after that," Dina said.
"Seriously Dina whats your problem," Ellie said starting to look annoyed.
"Your one of the people who didn't agree with the teams formation," Jessie said getting both of their attention.
"What do you," Ellie said before looking surprised and then at Dina. Back when her and Johnnys team was first formed, almost half of the people in Jackson were against it. Saying they should be focusing on looking after Jackson. The number was cut in half when they found out Johnny would be leading them.
"One good shot in the head and he could be done for," Dina said.
"Shut up," Ellie said looking annoyed.
"He told Steven to take a break for when Rachel was pregnant, why didn't he stay behind for his own wife," Dina said looking serious.
"Dina that's going to far, Tommy spoke up for Johnny to go knowing they wouldn't be away from Jackson for to long," Jessie said.
"I told him to go," Ellie said and the two women noticed she was looking at her stomach, "I know he will make it back," she saids remembering when they hugged before he left Jackson.
"There is something up with me, I think I might be pregnant," Dina said making the two of them look surprised.
"Uh hello," said a male voice from the entrance and they all looked to see Jesse standing next to Maria. Dina looked surprised to see Jesse standing there.
"Well if you want to make sure you should talk to David, he did the same for me," Ellie said as she and Jessie headed towards the door.
"Ellie," Dina said getting her attention, "I'm sorry and I do hope he makes it back," she said.
"Thanks," Ellie said before leaving with Jessie.
"You two obviously have something to talk about, so ill go," Maria said before leaving and catching up with Ellie and Jessie," You okay, what she say to you," she.
"Its fine," Ellie said.
"Maria, are there any people left in Jackson who still don't like Johnny and her team?" Jessie asked and Maria shook her head.
"No, after a year of results they stopped complaining, but with going to Seattle there are people wondering if they'll make it back," she said before looking at Ellie, "But something two people will definitely make it back," she said making Ellie smile.
Back in Seattle. In the theatre that was being used as base for the people who left the scars and the WLF. Abby was standing at balcony of the second floor when Mike walked over to her.
"Does that hurt?" She asked looking at his bandaged arm.
"No, I'm just wait for it to heal up now," Mike said before leaning against the balcony with her, "I heard over the radio about the people who came into the city and given the way they look they're not from here," he said.
"They're from a group in Jackson, apparently some other groups are allied with them as well, along with people from Boston," Abby said.
"Boston, last I heard about there the military was running things, not much else though," Mike said looking at her. Abby then explained that Johnnys group had taken down the military and now a resistance group was in charge.
"I noticed one of them wearing something around his neck, who is he," Mike said.
"Those would be his parents firefly tags, his name is Johnny Grayson," Abby said.
"Fireflies, did you know him," Mike said.
"No there was a separate group that lived in a bunker, he lost everything there and was experimented on," Abby said.
"He must have been still a kid when it happened, so did you find the man you were looking for," Mike said.
"I did, almost killed him if he hadn't had shown up," Abby said before looking down at the ground, "In the end he gave me a choice to bring a cure to everyone here, hey you remember that doctor that made that injection?" She asked.
"Yeah I never trusted that guy, he was real annoying and wanted me to try it," Mike said looking annoyed.
"Turns out hes from the same bunker and is after Johnnys power," she said making him look confused.
"Wait did you say power, just what kind of experiments did they do on him," he said and Abby explain the stuff she had seen him do.
"The way he got immune was worse," Abby said.
"So the doctor is trying to make people like him, even though theres a chance someone could die from it," Mike said, "I knew there wasn't anything good about him,".
"Well both of us saw people shot down because of those headaches," Abby said looking serious, "A lot of stuff really has went down over the last few days," she said before sighing.
"Well at least you made it back, that's a good thing," Mike said smiling at her and she smiled back at him.
"We need to find some people and then get out of this city, some people are waiting for their group to come home to them," Abby said.
"Abby, I cant leave this group behind," Mike said looking a little down until Abby put a hand on his shoulder.
"I know, that's why I'm going to help," she said. Mike held her hand and the two of them just stared at each other.
"Listen Abby I," Mike said before they heard the sound of someone running up the stairs and they instantly separated. It was the man who had helped Johnny and Abbys group earlier.
"Mike we just heard something, oh sorry am I interrupting," he said looking confused.
"No its nothing, I should probably see whats going on," Mike said looking at Abby who nodded at him before he went down the stairs.
"Just what was he about to say," she thought, "No I should find out whats going on first," she thought looking serious before heading down as well.
A few minutes later Abby was with Johnny and Leos group as Mike explained to them what was going on, "They're going to mix the cure with the injections the WLF have," Steven said looking surprised.
"Will he be able to make the serum with that," Lily said looking at Johnny who had an annoyed look on his face.
"No, the cure is only a part of the serum, I may not be a doctor but I have a feeling if the two of them are mixed together then it could cause worse side effects then what Abby told me about," Johnny said.
"There were a few people who didn't trust the injections like me, maybe we can get them to listen," Abby said.
"What about Mel," Lily said.
"No good," Leo said walking forward, "I overheard on our way out of the main base that she was being brought to the stadium,".
"And Chris is being held at their main base," Dean said.
"Johnny we should take the cure back, not just to stop them but for all the people here," Lily said gesturing all the people siting in the seats.
"Don't worry, earlier I made up my mind that we would help these people," he said looking serious at Mike who nodded back at him while smiling.
"According to the report they have injections being moved to the main base, where the cure is being stored," Mike said as he took out a map and it looked like a map of the city.
"We can cut through here and make our way to the road you took to the main base earlier," he said.
"Theres something else isn't there?" Dean asked.
"The area we would have to go through is mostly scars territory," he said.
"Wait you said we," Abby said.
"These are my people Abby, I have to do something for them," he said looking determined and after a moment Abby spoke up.
"Fine but Im coming with whoever else is going," she said.
"Steven you stay behind, keep an eye out for Tommys group," Johnny said.
"Alright but you better make it back," Steven said looking serious and Johnny nodded at him.
"Leo you okay to fight," he said.
"Yeah and so are some of my men, a few got injured on the way here," he said as three men stood behind him.
"Johnny were coming too, our leader is still there," one of Chris's men said walking over. Johnny recognized the man who spoke, he was the one who got injured in Leos city and had to stay behind while they went to Boston.
"Glad to hear it," Johnny said.
"Count us in too," Lily said stepping forward with Dean and Darren.
"Alright then, Mike tell us how were getting there," Johnny said and Mike nodded before they started to plan how to get back to the main WLF base. To get the cure and to save Chris.
