Well, I have some explaining to do. Before starting I want to say on everyone over chapter four being a recap, yeah this is why I usually have a friend of mine go over it with me so that I can have their input and see what would make the story better. Unfortunately, they were busy and I was left unchecked and that was kinda what happened. So note I won't be doing that again so that's a positive and to everyone that criticizes that aspect of the chapter and the previous chapter overall, I heard and I'm sorry for it and I'll make efforts to not repeat it. Now as to the second matter, where have I been for the past month? Well, I'll start by saying that after I posted the fourth chapter, I was getting ready to study for an exam that would decide if I graduate or not from college so I spent the first two weeks studying non-stop with the story being on the back until I passed the exam, which thankfully I did. After that the following two weeks I was pretty drained after the study sessions so I went in and out of writing this story as I often wrote and rewrote the chapter countless times due to certain sections not fitting as I want this chapter to be the last chapter of Izuku's first day at Roswaal's mansion before I start jumping forward in time to important moments in Izuku's and Eri's time at the mansion before Subaru's arrival. Plus it didn't help that I was reading books in my spare time that often took most of my day so here we are now. So this chapter is primarily him adjusting to the mansion and him slowly getting into the role of a surrogate father to Eri and Ram beginning her task for Roswaal. So yeah half a month I was away from FanFiction due to college and the other half I was going through several drafts of the chapter. Now, hopefully, the next chapter won't take too long as I have an idea for it but I won't say until it's time to do the chapter. Now I rambled long enough, let's get on to some of the reviews.
Senor Oogway: Had I never returned it would have definitely been the worst kind of cliffhangers, the kind that never gets resolved and credits are rolled.
CrazyGammerGuy12: First off I want to say I'm glad you enjoy the story. Yeah, I understand in the story getting on since I already have a lot of ideas for events down the line but I want to give the story justice to these characters and not just hit certain bullet points along the way, so it's kinda the reason it's taking its time but like I mention as well, I'll work in ensuring sections like chapter 4 are better to condense in future chapters as to not cover them into just whole chapters by themselves.
BigSmokeYeet:Oh you'll get a kick out of it then.
NarutoisNumber1Ninja:Yeah it definitely wasn't the brightest of decisions on my part but I'm glad to hear you enjoy the parts like Midoriya being Eri's papa and Frederica caring for Eri.
Guest: Yes you have a point and it definitely wasn't my brightest decision. I'll make sure not to do that for when Midoriya has to start revealing more of himself as I don't want to just make that whole chapter a recap but at the same time not just be one or two sentences and be done with it but definitely not make it whole chapters worth or take the majority of a chapter so thanks for the advice.
Sentinal Slice: You hit the nail in the head actually, it's kinda why his and Eri's appearance was seen as an oddity for Roswaal because Izuku and Eri were never meant to be there in the first place, in a sense theyare literally living paradoxes. As for Subaru having a Quirk, as cool as it may seem, it's not something I intend as the thing about Subaru is that he's pretty weak, in relation to everyone around him, and seeing how he persevered despite constantly dying and coming back is what makes his journey interesting. While yeah Izuku would overshadow him since it'll almost be like Reinhard being there next to Subaru and issues just being solved, the thing is that Izuku won't always be able to solve all the problems instantly, the reason why Subaru was able to succeed many of his checkpoints was because of how many times he had to die to get enough information for what he needs to do so while Izuku will be there, he won't be able to fix things instantly, especially once the world starts to take notice of his strength. So it is interesting the idea but I'll not be doing it. That is not to say that it's just two different Earths, I ain't throwing parallelworldsalongsidedifferent worlds, you'll see what I mean when we get thank you on staying healthy and ditto to you as well.
Peigukiin: Yeah the recap, not my best decision but I'll continue to improve from this point onward. As for Subaru having a Quirk, I don't see myself going with that idea because technically he already does in the form of Return by Death. Now it may seem cheating but if we think of Divine Blessing as Quirks in a similar sense that they bestow the user's powers that vary from user to user. But no, Subaru not getting a Quirk, even if it is interesting, having Return by Death is already a useful power even if the emotional, traumatic, physical and mental stress it brings would cause just about anyone to lose their minds. Also thank you.
T-B-R: Actually that's something I didn't think much about when writing on whether it was going too fast or slow because I assumed it was going at a constant pace, sometimes bordering on slow, but if it's a bit fast then I should look into my writing and double-check on that. Also yeah just wait until that happens. Also thank you.
Now that we are done with all the reviews let's continue on with the story.
The following is a fan-written story. My Hero Academia belongs to Horikoshi Kouhei and Re: Zero belongs to Tappei Nagatsuki. Please support the official release.
After finishing her talk with Roswaal, Ram helped Rem with the dishes so that the two could continue their duties for the day. As the pinkett dried the dishes, her mind was figuring out a way to get both of their new residents' trust. Normally, such a task wouldn't be an issue, showing good actions and behavior was often a way for one to be given said trust. However, upon further analysis, Deku and Eri may prove more time-consuming than she originally anticipated.
Deku appeared to get along with them well enough without issue which was a good indicator that she could straightforwardly gain his trust. However, he wasn't a complete idiot and showed to be more analytical than she anticipated if his breakdown explanation at the dining table was any indication. Not only that but she could tell he became more alert to them after his mishap with Master Roswaal so if he were to notice the pinkett change in attitude towards him, he would become even warier of her intentions. Regardless, if she acts her part as intended, she should be able to gain his trust quickly without issue. As for the little one that is under his care, that will prove more of a challenge.
Eri is unlike any other child she's seen, not showing any enthusiasm or energy but instead remaining silent. Ram knew that something was off about the girl when observing her behavior during the few days that she, Rem, and Frederica were watching over her. They all saw her nervous behavior anytime someone came to check on her or give her food as she would always back away in fear. The next was her lack of response, she would always either nod or shake her head when spoken. Frederica got her to say some words, though the only things she said were 'It was her fault' and 'sorry'. However, the biggest revelation to the small girls' behavior was the scars beneath her bandages. She was shocked at seeing the number of scars someone her age had and all three maids discern that they were inflicted onto her. For Ram, none of Eri's behavior appeared natural but rather learned from the circumstances that surrounded her. It was only when Deku alluded to what happened to the small girl that it solidified their suspicion that she was abused.
Ram may not have had the same reaction as Frederica but she knew that no one should be faced with the cruelty of the world at such a young age. She couldn't even begin to imagine the psychological scars that Eri has developed but from her own and Rem's experience with childhood trauma, those kinds of scars can cut rather deep. It was for this reason that the pinkett had to be delicate in her approach towards Eri.
She was already frightened by everyone so if she suddenly thrust herself into her life, it would make the task of gaining her trust even more difficult. The pink-haired maid knew that if she wanted the small girl to open up for Master Roswaal's plan to come to fruition, she'll have to be thoughtful in her approach. She had to show Eri that she could be trusted and in turn, it would show the greenette that the pinkett could be trusted with the platinum-haired little girl. It wouldn't be an overnight transformation but in time the small girl will see her as someone that she can be comfortable with.
"Sister, are you alright?" Rem said as she noticed that her older twin appeared to be deep in thought. This snapped Ram out of it as she looked at her younger twin who was staring in worry.
"Yes, I'm fine Rem." The pinkett said as she finished drying the last of the plates before turning to Rem.
"We should do as Frederica instructed and continue with today's chores." The pinkett said as the blue-haired maid nodded. Having gone separate ways with her sister, Ram went towards the mansions dressing room where she expects Frederica to be with their new green-haired co-worker in getting him a uniform to begin his butler duties. As she continued to traverse the familiar halls, the words of her master echoed in her mind. Their two new residents may have arrived sooner than expected but she will do as he requests of her, if she has to make a bond with both Deku and Eri for her master then she will do so.
'I won't disappoint you, Master Roswaal.' Ram thought as she saw the dressing room door open and heard the voice of her blonde-haired co-worker.
"Hmm... no, not this one either."
"I honestly thought this one would fit." Ram heard Deku say as she entered the room. She saw Frederica facing away from her and their green-haired resident having his arms outstretched, it did catch her attention that Eri was nowhere to be seen. She was about to ask where she was until her attention was drawn towards greenettes butler attire.
"You look utterly ridiculous with the uniform hanging off of you like a child wearing their parents clothing." While she could have worded it better, Ram felt like she couldn't when looking at the sight before her. The uniform that was fitted for him was a few sizes too large, his sleeves were nearly hanging off and his pant legs were baggy, the only thing she saw that wasn't oversized was the dress shirt and vest. The pinkett voicing her opinion caught the attention of the two as she saw them turn towards her in surprise. She then noticed that the little horned girl was sleeping soundly in the blonde's arms and what more she appeared to be at ease with her senior if the way Eri was grabbing onto Frederica was any indication.
"Oh, hello Ram. I take it that you and Rem finished what I asked?" Frederica asked to which she got a nod from the pinkett.
"Yes and judging from his appearance, I am under the impression that due to his short stature none of the uniforms here fit him, correct?" Ram said as the greenette tilted his head to the side.
"Im not that short..." He murmured in defeat at the pinketts comment as Midoriya knew that he was one of the shorter boys in his class, being beaten out by Tokoyami and Mineta.
"Well regardless, it does appears that all of the butler uniforms fit him too loosely." Frederica said as Ram stared at the wrongfully dressed greenette who felt as though he was being judged under her gaze.
"Well, there are another set of uniforms we could try on him."
"Ram, we are not going to make Izuku wear the maid uniforms."
"Y-yeah, can we not do that, please." The greenette said with his face turning to a shade similar to a tomato at the suggestion. In his embarrassment, Izuku didn't notice the pinkett going through one of the drawers and pulling out a yellow measuring tape.
"In any case, we can adjust the jacket and pant legs." Ram said as she got up close to the greenette and extended the measuring tape out.
"Now, lift your arms and hold still Deku." The pinkett instructed as the greenette lifted his arms.
"Not going to call him by his name, Ram?"
"I-it's fine Frederica, it's my Hero name after all so there's no issue." Midoriya said as he remained perfectly still, almost like that of a statue with the blonde maid took notice of his nervous blushing face as he appeared to be keeping his gaze away from looking at the pink maid. As she continued to watch the two, she felt a stir in her arms as she saw the platinum-haired little girl wake up slightly. Eri took in her surroundings before looking up at her holder.
"Hi Eri, did you sleep well?" Frederica asked softly with a smile as the small girl gave a small nod before seeing her expression change as she grabbed onto the blonde.
"Miss Frederica, is the scary mister here?" The blonde maid said the little horned girl ask nervously as she could feel her grip tighten on her uniform. A small frown befell Frederica before giving her a reassuring smile.
"It's alright Eri, Master Roswaal isn't here. I apologize if you were frighten by him." Frederica said as she took notice of how Ram opened her mouth as if to say something before halting herself and returning to her measuring which did gain a curious look from the blond.
"Thank you." She heard Eri say softly which got the blonde curious.
"Why are you thanking me Eri?" The blond-haired maid asked.
"For being so nice to me." The small ruby-eye girl said as Frederica looked at her with a caring expression as the conversation with Izuku was still fresh in her mind. The blonde gave a comforting smile to the platinum-haired little girl.
"Thank you, Eri. Don't forget to also thank Ram and Rem when you can, ok?" The blonde said as it got the ruby-eyed little girl to nod her head before giving a small yawn.
"Where's Deku?" Eri asked as she rubbed her eyes with her sleeve.
"I'm here Eri." Izuku said as the ruby-eyed girl turned her attention to the greenette who remained blushing and stiff as a board with Ram still measuring him.
"What are you doing Deku?" The little horned girl asked as the pinkett wrapped the measuring tape around the green-haired young man's torso
"Lord Ros*Oomph!* I mean Master Roswaal allowed you and me to live here in exchange that I work with Frederica and the others for the time being." Midoriya said as he felt Ram loosening the measuring tape at his slip up.
"Is that why Miss Ram is wrapping you?" Eri asked in curiosity as the greenette nodded just as the pinkett separated herself from him.
"There, I'm done. Thankfully you didn't make any unnecessary movements." Ram said as she could tell that Deku was a blushing mess when she started measuring him.
"Honestly, compared to how hands-on Hatsume can get, it wasn't a problem." Izuku said as he heard a scuff come from the pinkett as she started wrapping the measuring tape up.
"Are you some kind of pervert that gets off on pretty girls like Ram measuring you?" Ram asked in an accusing tone.
"W-what?! No! No! No! T-that's not what I meant?!" Izuku said putting his arms up in a defensive matter as Eri turned to look at Frederica.
"Miss Frederica, what's a pervert?" She asked in curiosity as the greenette paled at the innocently asked question by the little horned girl.
"A pervert is a bad person who does sexual acts to others." Ram answered which only further caused Midoriya to go paler.
"A bad person?"
"Yes, a bad person. You're very smart Eri." The pinkett said as she reached out towards the ruby-eyed girl who flinched which caused Ram to halt her hand and see it as her pushing the boundaries too much and thus reeled her hand back. The small girl seemed to relax a bit at seeing the pink-haired maid pull back her hand.
"But Deku isn't a bad person." Eri said.
"She was just joking Eri. We know that he isn't a bad person, right Ram?" Frederica said as Ram turned away from the blonde and towards the door.
"Either way, we have spent enough time measuring you into uniform. It's much preferable if you were in a butler attire incase Master Roswaal receives any guests but seeing you in a laughable state, it would be a disgrace to his status as a Lord. For today, change back into that outfit of your's while adjustments to the uniform are made." The pinkett said as she stepped out of the dressing room as the greenette deflated as he turned to Frederica.
"Is she always like that?" Izuku asked curiously.
"Don't worry Izuku, Ram may be sharp with her words but she'll warm up to you, eventually." The blonde maid said as she exited the room before closing the door behind her as she saw the pink maid waiting outside with her arms crossed.
"Show Izuku the chores he'll need to do. Also, give the two a tour around the mansion, won't do much good if either of them got lost exploring." Frederica said as Ram gave a small bow to her senior as the blonde turned to the ruby-eyed little girl in her arms.
"I'll be going now Eri. Listen to what Ram has to say. She'll be nice to you, ok?" Frederica said as she got a nod from Eri as the blonde lowered her until her feet touched the ground.
"Ram, please watch over her."
"Understood, Frederica." The pink-haired maid said as the blonde gave her thanks before departing to her duties, leaving both Ram and Eri alone as they waited for Deku to come out. The pinkett would glance at the platinum-haired little girl and noticed that she appeared tense along with catching Eri make small glances at her before turning away when the pink maid caught her.
'As I anticipated, she's overly cautious of me.' Ram thought to herself as she heard the door to the dressing room open as the greenette came out fidgeting with his utility belt.
"Sorry, did I take too long?" Midoriya said as he saw the neutral expression on the pink maid's face as she approach and halted in front of him.
"I-is something wrong?" Izuku asked somewhat nervous as he didn't know what to expect from her.
"Your metal collar is crooked." The pinkett commented before reaching out and adjusting it.
"T-thanks" The greenette said in embarrassment as not having adjusted his costume correctly along with the proximity of the pink maid as she took some steps away from him.
"We'll have to work on you looking presentable in the future. For now, Frederica said to give you and Eri a tour before beginning our chores." Ram said as she started walking down the hall. The greenette turned his attention to the ruby-eyed little girl next to him as he saw her remain quiet.
"Ready to see our new home Eri?" Midoriya asked as the small girl nodded before grabbing his hand and following after the pink maid.
As Ram gave a tour of Master Roswaal's home, Eri was looking in amazement at how big and nice everything was while Izuku looked dumbfounded at the luxurious state the home was in. Everything looked clean and new which made him wonder how many people it takes just to clean. Not only that but the two were astonished by the countless rooms that the home had that ranged from the servant's sleeping quarters, the bathing room, the kitchen, the V.I.P room, and finally ending with the front garden.
"That covers everything that you will need to know about Master Roswaal's home. So, do you have any questions?" It was a lot for the two to take in but accepted the place as their new home for the foreseeable future.
"Nope, none." The greenette said shaking his head as the little horned girl mimicked his action which Ram took note of before continuing.
"In that case we can commence with the in's and out's of your work. As Frederica already informed you, you'll be paired with me and thus you will be helping with my work."
"Ok, so what do we have to do?" Izuku asked as Ram walked back to the mansion.
"My work consists of caring for the front and back garden, help prepare lunch, polishing the silver, airing out the futons, doing the laundry, cleaning the bathrooms, going over security, and the mansions monthly soot cleaning." Ram said as she began to hear some mumbling and scribbling behind her as she turns to see the greenette writing in his notebook at a quick pace with Eri looking at the greenette in awe as she was currently grabbing onto his costume.
"And mansion soot. Alright, anything else I should know?" Midoriya asked looking up at the pinkett who just stared at him.
"Did you just write all of that down?" Ram asked.
"Y-yeah, have to make sure I don't forget by accident if that were to happen." The greenette said scratching the back of his neck as the pink maid turned to face forward once more.
"Very well then. Good to see that you're taking this serious." Ram said as she continued back into the mansion leaving Midoriya looking in slight surprise at the pinkett giving him some praise which probably was a good sign that she would let up on her belittlement.
"Deku, are you going to keep day-dreaming or actually come and do your work?"
'Spoke to soon.' The greenette thought as he heard the pinkett call from the open front door.
"R-right sorry! Let's go Eri." Midoriya said as he saw the ruby-eyed little girl give a small nod.
Thereafter, Izuku followed and did as Ram instructed in his work. They began with gardening which while he didn't have any experience in handling sheers, he was able to adapt quickly in trimming the hedges. Though Ram call out the quality of his trimming skills and was told to improve in the future. Afterward, it was the task of cleaning the rooms, silverware, and windows. It eerily reminded him of when he and Kacchan were responsible for cleaning the dorm during their house arrest, only with less yelling but with just the same amount of reprimanding. Ram left the areas she clean spotless and was able to point out places where he missed which thankfully weren't many. Overall, she told him he was competent enough in cleaning which helped Izuku feel as though the yells from the explosive blonde did stick.
Then came the situation of laundry which while he knew how to do it, washing by hand was not as difficult as he just had to make sure that he was thorough with the washing. He didn't face any problem with the washing until he came across some undergarments which got him both to burst into embarrassment and Ram calling him a 'pervert' when she was hanging the clothes to dry. He couldn't do much in arguing with the pink maid unless he wanted to give her more ammunition to use against him so he persevered in trying not to focus too much on it or Master Roswaal's underwear. As for Eri, she stayed close to him, not wanting to leave his side as she watched him work. She even helped by giving him the supply he needed to which he praised her for but he only received nods from the ruby-eyed little girl. That led to their current chore which was helping with lunch.
"So it appears that you are competent enough with a knife." Ram commented as both she and Deku were cutting what he originally thought was potatoes until the pink maid called them tatoes. It wasn't the only food-related item that had a different name as the peppers were called peppa's and the apples were called appa's which name aside, were the same as the food from his world so he just peeled and work with them the same way as their counterparts. As for Eri, she was sitting on one of the kitchen stools watching him, Ram, Frederica, and Rem working on lunch.
"Back home, my friends and I would alternate on who would do dinner that night so as to share the workload with one another. Mom and Sato helped me get the basics in cooking so that I could atleast be of some help to others." Izuku said as he finished peeling one of the tatoes in a spiral form before putting it in one of the baskets.
"Well, that saves me the effort of teaching you how to properly use a knife." Ram commented as she finished peeling her tatoe in the same spiral form before moving on to the next one.
"Even still, it is of great help knowing that you have experience with cooking Izuku." Frederica said as she and Rem were adding spices to the stew. All four co-workers were focused on their respective roles with no words being uttered between them. Ram kept observing both Deku and Eri from the corner of her eye and during this, she caught glances of the ruby-eyed little girl looking intensely at a bowl of appa's. The small girl saw the pink maid looking at her, causing her to look away shyly from the appa's and look at her green-haired caretaker peeling tatoes. For the pink-haired maid, she reflected on what her master said and knew that if she was to get Eri to become more comfortable around her, she will need to show her some kindness. Releasing an internal sigh, she reached over to one of the appa's and presented it to the small girl which seemed to startle her.
"Here, I saw how you were looking at them. You want one?" Ram asked as Eri looked at her curiously.
"They look like apple's." The platinum-haired little girl said.
"Well, they may be similar to the ones in your world but here we call them appa's. You can have this one." Ram said as Eri looked at the pink maid then back to the appa before taking it.
"Thank you." The platinum-haired little girl said.
"You're welcome Eri." Ram said before returning to peeling tatoes.
Midoriya watched the interaction between the two which at first got him a bit concerned about how the pinkett would talk to the platinum-haired little girl but it proved to be for naught as he had a small smile on his face before continuing to peel as the small ruby-eyed girl took a bite out of the fruit.
"It's sweet." Eri said before taking another bite.
After the preparations for lunch have been made, Ram, Izuku, and Eri made their way out into the hallway with the pinkett leading them.
"You have shown to be more competent than expected Deku." Ram commented not looking behind her.
"Thank you Ram." Midoriya said.
"However, don't let it get to your head. Just because your work is passable does not mean you can slack off, we don't want sloppy work to tarnish Master Roswaal's home, understood?" The pinkett said turning her head slightly back at him in a neutral tone.
"Of course. I'll make sure to get better at it." The greenette said as the pink maid turned her attention forward.
"I hope you do keep your word on it." She said as they continued down the red hall. After traversing several hallways and taking various stairways, the trio stopped in front of a door.
"What are we doing here?" The greenette questioned as to why they were in the servant quarters, more specifically in front of the pink-haired maids' room.
"I'm going to lay down until dinner." Ram said calmly.
"Eh?" Midoriya said with a confused look on his face with Eri looking at him curiously as to why that would make him confused. After processing her words, he shook his head and looked at the pinkett.
"What do you mean? Shouldn't we finish the rest of the chores?"
"In case you haven't realize, we ARE finished with our share of the work until dinner." The pink maid said which got a look of surprise from Izuku as he pulled out his notebook and checked what exactly they did and to his surprise, they indeed go through what they needed to do.
"Did we really finish that quick?" The greenette asked.
"Yes, you are more competent that I originally thought which allowed for us to finish sooner then expected. For now, we'll meet back up to help with dinner and checking security of the mansion." Ram said as she turn away and opened the door to her room.
"W-wait, Ram." Midoriya said as he reached a hand out towards the pink-haired maid who stopped and turned to him.
"What?"
"What are we supposed to do until dinner then?" Izuku asked as he heard an 'Ugh' from the pinkett who turned to him in an annoyed expression.
"Do what you please in your downtime. However, do make sure not to create any commotion like you did a few days ago unless you want to clean the mansion by yourself?" Ram said as she saw the greenette stiffen a bit before raising both hands in defense.
"R-right. I'll make sure not to cause any problems." Midoriya said.
"Good, then I'll come by for you at ten Solartime."
"Wait, Solar-"
*Shut*
"Agh!" Like that, the door to the pink maid's room shut in his face as the greenette grabbed his nose from the pain as he tried to understand what the pinkett said.
'Ten in Solartime? Is that how they tell time here?' Izuku thought as he tried recalling anything that may have looked like a clock or something indicating time but he couldn't.
'Ram said she would come get us for when we're needed so I'll just have to wait until then.' Midoriya thought as he felt a tug in his left hand as he looked down to see worried ruby eyes looking up at him.
"Deku, are you ok?" He heard Eri ask him as he mustered up a smile for her.
"I'm fine Eri. I was just surprised by that." Izuku said as he patted her head. The greenette was left to ponder what to do until Ram comes for them, he could go back to his room but he already spent three days on a bed and he would rather not spend any more time bed-ridden than necessary. He looked down at the platinum-haired little girl that was holding his hand tightly with a blank expression. His conversation with Frederica about his role in raising Eri came to mind as he had time to help the small girl from her time with Overhaul. He crouched down to her level as he saw her look down timidly.
"Hey Eri, is there anything you would like to do?" Izuku asked as he wanted to first ask her since he didn't just want to do something without taking her into account. He waited for a few moments before seeing her shake her head side to side.
"Are you sure Eri? Is there nothing you want to do?" He asked her once more as she nodded her head quietly. Both times, Eri kept her head down and closed her eyes when giving her response, like she was afraid of what he would say. A crestfallen look befell Izuku when seeing how the platinum-haired little girl was affected by Overhaul. He reached out with his left hand and saw Eri open her eyes as she felt Midoriya caress the top of her head.
"Eri, it's ok, I won't get mad or angry if you want to do something. I know it may be scary to say what you want after everything that has happened but you don't have to be scared anymore, I'll be here to protect you through anything and everything." The greenette said giving her a warm smile as the ruby-eyed little girl looked at his emerald eyes.
"Will you keep all the bad people away?" Eri asked him in a quiet tone as her green-haired caretaker nodded.
"No matter who it is, I'll make sure you're safe and happy Eri, pinky promise." Izuku said as he brought out his right hand with his pinkie out which got the small girl confused at the gesture.
"Right, I should explain what this means. When you want to make a promise, especially one that you don't want to break, we do what we call a 'Pinky Promise'." He said as Eri looked at him before extending her pinkie and wrapping hers around his.
"You promise you'll protect me from all the bad people?" The ruby-eyed little girl asked once more as the greenette nodded.
"Pinkie Promise." Midoriya said as he separated his pinkie.
"Now Eri, is there anything you want to do?" Izuku asked the question once more with a kind smile towards the ruby-eyed little girl as she remained silent for a few moments before nodding.
"Can we go outside and see the garden?" The small girl asked timidly.
"Of course."
"And... can you tell me about the others that saved me?" Eri asked with curiosity.
"Sure. I can tell you all about them, like Red Riot, Uravity, Froppy, and everyone." Midoriya said as he stood up, reaching out a hand towards the platinum-haired little girl as she took it and the two made their way down the hall. Unbeknown to them, on the other side of the door, Ram was eavesdropping into their conversation, she had hoped that listening in to his and Eri's conversation to see if there was anything she can use to her advantage and it appears she may have found one.
Hearing the small girl talk about protecting her and keeping 'bad people' away gave Ram the idea that Eri wanted to have that security that she won't fall back to hands that could hurt her and while the pinkett could say the same thing to her, it won't have the same weight. A reason being that, unlike the pink-haired maid, Midoriya already showed the platinum-haired little girl how far he would go to save her, and even when caring for her, he reassured her that he would still protect her. Ram can't make a situation where she would be some 'savior' to the small girl as it would be too much of a hassle, it could draw suspicion from the greenette if he starts connecting the dots, and she can't put her or Deku in a life-threatening situation as it would go against her masters' wishes.
There was nothing else that the pinkett could do to raise her chances in getting the small girl to trust her aside from small gestures of kindness but for the time being and that is not including what she'll need to do for her green-haired co-worker to trust her. As she laid down on the bed and looked up at the ceiling, a small thought appeared to her that made her curiously ask if this was the right way to do things. Eri was a recovering victim of abuse and Deku has done nothing but good for them, even if he's learning to fulfill his role as a butler. If they were to find out her true intentions, that she's only doing this because she was ordered to, she no doubt knows things will go bad. However, as quickly as that thought came, it left as regardless of the morality of her order, she was in no place to decide what is right or wrong.
"No matter how long it takes, I'll will complete your request Master Roswaal." Ram thought as she had a small smile on her face as she rested with the thought of the margrave.
A Few Hours Later
The pink maid opened her eyes up as the golden glow that came from the windows hit her. She raised her hand to shade herself from the light as a groan escaped her lips. Rising from her bed, she look to the side at the magic time crystal and noticed how it was glowing a slightly dark shade of red, telling her that it's been a few hours since Deku and Eri went to do their own thing.
"It's almost time for dinner. Better hope that Deku is ready." Ram said to herself as she got herself out of her bed and exited the room towards the greenette's room where she gave a few knocks.
"Deku, it's time to help with dinner." The pinkett said as she received silence as a response. Annoyance was growing inside her as she knocked once more but like before, there was no response before grabbing the handle to the door.
"I apologize for entering but you were not.." She didn't finish as she noticed how the room was empty with no one in sight. She inhales before releasing a sigh at the lack of appearance from the greenette.
"Great, now I have to go find where he and the little one went." The pink-haired maid said as she remember hearing that they would go to the garden. Thus, with not many options, she made her way towards the front garden of the mansion. However, as she got closer to the front door, she saw several of the other servants looking through the front windows at something, or rather someone, in the garden.
"How long has he been at this?"
"A few hours now I believe."
"How can someone his age have that much strength and endurance?"
"So is he the new butler that Master Roswaal informed us of?"
These were the things she heard from the servants which judging by what they said, she had a good idea of who they were referring to. Not wanting to waste any more time than what she has already wasted looking for the two, she opened the front doors and saw their two new residents in the front garden. Eri was sitting on the grass looking at Midoriya who at the moment was doing handstand push-ups while keeping a straight posture.
'What is he doing now?' Ram thought to herself as she made her way towards the duo as she heard the servants who were looking on wondering what the pink-haired maid would do. As she approached the two outworlders, she began to hear snippets of their conversation.
"...and if you don't give candy you get tricked?" Eri asked slightly scared.
"Well...*Grunt* that is what trick-or-treaters say, but it's*Grunt* like tradition to say it. *Grunt* You won't get tricked." Izuku said as he did more standing push-ups before continuing.
"There's also Christmas where *Grunt* if you are nice you'll get a gift *Grunt* from Santa Claus." Midoriya said as he saw the look of interest on Eri's face.
"Santa Claus?"
"Yeah, he-"
"Deku."
"AH!" The greenette yelled in surprise as he fell directly on his head before laying on his back.
"*Groan* That definitely stung..." Izuku said reeling in from the impact as he rubbed the back of his neck in soreness. He turned to his right to check if Eri was ok and noticed her looking up at someone. The greenette cracked his neck up and came eye to eye with the pinkett who was standing over him.
"Ram?" Izuku asked.
"What are you doing exactly? I told you that I would come get you at 10 of Solartime." Ram said as Izuku saw her cross her arms under her chest.
"Actually... I wanted to tell you that I didn't know what you meant by Solartime." Midoriya said as it caused an eye raise from the pink-haired maid as he started going through one of his pouches before pulling his phone out and turning it back on.
"I think our world's use different ways to tell times because where I'm from we use A.M and P.M to signal the day and night." Midoriya said as he handed the phone to Ram who stared at the screen and saw white letters, she thinks, on the top center but if what he said about their world sharing different times meant that the pair in front of her didn't know how to tell time either. She let go of the phone as Izuku grabbed it before it hit the ground, releasing a sigh of relief which was cut short as he saw Ram pinch the bridge of her nose.
"*Sigh* I should have known that the two of your wouldn't know how to tell time either. So we can add telling time on things that the two of you don't know." The pinkett said as she looked between Deku and Eri who kept her head down each time the pink maid looked at her.
"Uhhh... Ram?" The pink maid looked down at the greenette who had a look of confusion.
"Deku, get up. Unless you plan on continuing to look up my skirt." Ram said in an irritated tone which took a moment to process for Izuku before his entire face turned red as he shot straight up. He ignored the soreness in his neck and back as he started to profoundly apologize to the pink maid with a ninety-degree bow as Eri stared at her green-haired caretaker's embarrassment.
"And stop apologizing for everything. You're a butler of Master Roswaal's now, if any guests were see the lack of confidence you have it will make them question his choice in staff so better it." The pinkett said as the greenette straightened his back and looked at her with an awkward smile that the best way she could describe was as if he was being held up at knifepoint and told to smile.
"R-right! D-duly noted." Midoriya said as the pink maid could only look intrigued at his behavior. It mystified her how someone could be so bold as to stand against her master yet be reduced to a bumbling mess when talking to others. This would be one of those questions she'll need to find out later as she wants to tackle one issue at a time, she'll keep the observation at the back of her mind for a later time as right now, they have their duties as servants to attend to.
'*Sigh* This guy is not going to make things any easy will he?' Ram thought to herself.
"Deku, are the two of you doing anything later tonight?" She asked as the greenette relaxed his posture at her question.
"Uhh... no. Nothing in particular really." Midoriya said as he saw the pinkett walking back towards the mansion.
"Then I'll come by later tonight in your room. Make sure that both of you are there along with chairs for the two of you, understand?"
"Ok?" Midoriya responded, unsure of her request as he looked down at Eri who remained quiet herself as she was also staring back up at him.
"Why does Miss Ram want to see us later? Did we do something bad?" She asked nervously as she felt the greenette pat her head.
"It's ok Eri. I'm sure we're not in any trouble. I think." Izuku said the last part quietly as he comforted the little horned girl as the two followed after the pink-haired maid.
A Few Hours Later
'Wonder what Ram is doing?' Midoriya thought to himself as he looked outside his room's window. Some time has passed since they helped with dinner, checked security, and by the time they finished, the golden glow of the sky was gone with darkness having enveloped the night sky. Most of the servants turned in for the night with only a handful of the room's still being illuminated. For his first day in the mansion, it was tiring but nothing that he couldn't endure. Izuku and Eri were sitting on the two chairs as instructed while they waited for the pinkett to appear.
"*Sigh* What exactly did Ram want us to be here if she wasn't going to show up. Did she forget or istheresomethingthatIdon'tknowsinceIdon'tknowwhatexactlywhatelsewecouldbedoingaroundhereorisshedoingsomethingthatsheforgottomentiontheninthatcas-"
"If you speak like that in front of anyone, people will think that you are delirious."
"AHH!" The greenette shouted in surprise as he fell backward on his chair, bracing for the impact of the ground. However, to his surprise, it never came. He opened his eyes and saw that he was still on the chair but being held in mid-fall. He wondered what stopped him and looked to his side and saw a familiar maid uniform with their leg extended to the back of his chair, preventing him from falling completely. He looked back up to see the pinkett that both he and Eri have been waiting for as she had a neutral expression while carrying various items in her arms.
"Really? You fallen nearly twice out of surprise and the one time I stop you from embarrassingly falling over you don't say 'thank you' for my generosity." He heard from her as it got him to come out of his dumbfounded state.
"T-thank you, Ram."
"You're welcome." The pink maid said as Midoriya felt himself be pushed back up with his seat until he was back to a normal sitting position. He had a slight look of surprise as he looked at the maid in curiosity. While the saying is 'Don't judge a book by its cover', he was surprised at the ease the pinkett raised him back up.
'Is everyone here just that much stronger?'
"How long are you going to keep looking at me with those perverted eyes?" Izuku was brought out of his thought process as he saw a look of disgust.
"S-sorry, I was just surprised that's all!" The greenette said in nervousness as he averted his gaze in embarrassment.
"But Deku is not a pervert." The duo heard the voice of Eri say as Midoriya faltered more at hearing the small girl have that word added to her vocabulary.
"He will be if he continues with behavior like this." Ram responded in monotone towards the ruby-eyes little girl.
"A-anyway, Ram you wanted to meet us here for something right?" Izuku said slightly louder than anticipated as he tried changing the topic before they continue going further on that discussion. The pink-haired maid turned to Deku as she set down the materials in front of them. From what the two saw, it included a yellow notepad, a quill with a white feather in the end, and a book that they could not tell what was written in the front.
"Yes, earlier in the day you said you didn't know the language of this world due to being different from your own. If you can't understand the language here I am going to assume that Eri doesn't as well. Seeing as how you couldn't tell something as simple as time, I don't have the confidence in sending you to go shopping for supplies or writing down orders." The pinkett said as the greenette hit his fist into his palm.
"Ok, I think I get what you mean. The more comfortable I am with this world's language the more I'll be able to handle on my own."
"Good to hear that you understand." Ram said as she turned towards Eri who was trying to hold the quill correctly in her hands until she saw the pink maid watching her and she put the quill down along with looking down at the table.
"Not only that but it will be beneficial for Eri if she also learned to read and write. She won't be sent on tasks like you but it would be better for her to learn this than to not." The pink maid said which was something that made the greenette realize that Eri probably doesn't have any form of education. He doubted Overhaul or any of the Yakuza had time to teach her so for all he knew, this was probably her first actual learning experience.
"Yeah, I do think it would be the best for her as well." Izuku said as he pulled out his notebook and pen from his pouch as a click was heard. Izuku grabbed the notepad that Ram brought and placed it in front of Eri who looked up at him.
"You ready to learn how to read and write Eri?" Midoriya said to her gently as he saw the little horned girl nod her head. He smiled at her and saw her struggling to hold the quill correctly. After a few moments of telling her how to hold it correctly, even letting her switch writing utensils so that she had the pen and he had the quill, she was able to hold the pen correctly. The pinkett, who has waited for the two to finish, grabbed the book she brought with her.
"Very well. Now, I'll be easing the two of you in so we'll start of with children fairy tales." Ram said which appeared to have gotten Eri's attention which the pink maid took notice of. She may not know what exactly the little horned girl went through but that was the first glimmer of her showing the behavior of a little kid her age.
For the next hour or so, Izuku kinda lost track of time, he and Eri learned about the basics of I-Glyphs, followed by Ro-Glyphs, and Ha-Glyphs. Truth be told, it did feel a bit overwhelming hearing there being different kinds of Glyphs at first but after some practice, he was able to get at least some understanding differentiating the three. Not just that but he saw how Eri was able to get the understanding for them rather quickly, it amazed him how fast she picked up the writing and reading of it. He smiled at seeing her learning and he contributes to how good of a teacher Ram was. She pointed out the mistakes, corrected them, and what glyphs to use. Ram was pretty patient with them throughout the learning process. He continued writing more until he turn his gaze over to Eri and saw her head drip little by little each time as she tries to remain awake.
'She's giving it her all, even when she's sleepy.' The greenette smiled as he put the quill down, reached over, and placed his hand on her pen which seemed to break her out of her concentration as she looked back up at him.
"I think that's enough writing for tonight, you sleepy?" Izuku said as he saw Eri yawn and nod back at him.
"Ok, hey Ram, I think we can call it a night. Eri is sleepy and I don't want her to stay up too late." Midoriya said as he looked down at both his and Eri's notepad and notebook and saw the progress they made together thanks to the pink maid.
"Ram, thank you for what you've done. I know that it may seem inconvenient how you have to teach us a lot of things like the time or writing but I wanted you to know that I am thankful for you helping-"
"ZZZZZZZ..."
"Us..." Midoriya said as he saw that the pink maid had fallen asleep in the bed. Izuku stared at her dumbfounded that their teacher fell asleep while she was teaching them before remembering that it wasn't any more different than when Mr. Aizawa slept during class. He stood up from his chair as quietly as he could as to not wake the pinkett and walked over to her and saw that she was completely out cold. If he was going to guess when she fell asleep, it probably was around the time she told them to practice on their own.
'No wonder she wasn't saying anything for a while.' Midoriya thought as he felt his hand be tugged by a very sleepy Eri who was rubbing her hand on her eye as to wipe away the sleep as he felt a swell in his chest at the cute display.
'She's too adorable.' Izuku thought as the small girl looked up at him.
"Deku, is Miss Ram going to sleep here?" Eri asked innocently and while he would have blushed at the question, he wanted to clarify things before misunderstandings start.
"N-no Eri, she just fell asleep by accident here." He said as he saw the look of thought on the ruby-eyed little girl.
"Where will Miss Ram sleep?" She asked as Eri saw her green-haired caretaker rub the back of his neck.
"We can't leave her here otherwise someone may get the wrong idea. I could also get Frederica or Rem to come get her." Midoriya said as he went and opened the door to his room.
"Frederica? Rem?" He called out as he looked up and down the hallway and saw neither maids nor any servants in the immediate vicinity. Izuku returned to his room as he released a sigh.
"Ok, I guess I'll have to carry her to her room." The greenette said as he tried containing his blush at the idea. While he already carried the pinkett before when they first met, he didn't think much of it due to trying to make sure they weren't turned into a Mabeast feast.
"Deku, why are you red?" Eri asked curiously as Izuku shook his head to get the embarrassment out of him.
"I-it's nothing Eri." He said as he went to Ram and as gently as he could, lifted her off his bed with an arm under her legs and on her back, back to the position they were in a few days ago.
"Miss Ram looks like the princess in the fairy story." The ruby-eyed little girl commented as she recalled a part of the story where the prince carried the princess, like how Deku was carrying Ram.
"R-right." Midoriya said as he tried keeping his nerves down at the comment Eri made as he remembered when the trio was falling from the sky and how Ram looked like with the setting behind her and everything. He shook his head as he headed to the door which Eri thankfully made it easy by opening it for him but told her to stay in the room since he saw how drowsy she was and didn't want her to get hurt if she accidentally stumbled onto something and so he made his trek towards the pink maids' room alone. Ram's room wasn't far or anything, it was just a few doors down but felt like it took longer than just a few steps as he didn't want to be caught by anyone and be asked why he was carrying a sleeping Ram, especially if it was her twin. Plus it didn't help when he felt the pinkett snuggle closer to him which caused his nerves to nearly explode but he bit the inside of his cheek as he finally made it to her room.
He didn't have Eri with him this time so he opened the door as quietly as possible as to not wake up the pinkett which he was successful after two attempts. He didn't spend too long in the pink maids' room as he went to her bed, placed her down on the bed as gently as possible, and saw her snuggle up to the pillow on her bed. He released a small breath he didn't know he was holding as he made his way to the door. Right as he was about to close it, he looked back to the sleeping form of the pinkett.
"Goodnight, Ram." Midoriya said before closing the door quietly. As he stood in front of the door, he turned around and instantly felt his blood run cold as he came face to face with someone he hoped didn't see him.
"What were you doing in sisters room?" Rem asked which made it hard for Izuku to discern whether she was just asking or determining whether to turn him into mincemeat.
"N-nothing. I was just bringing your sister back to her room." Midoriya said as he knew trying to make an excuse would not make things go smoothly so the more honest he was the better.
"Your behavior makes your actions sound rather suspicious. So I'll ask once more, mind telling me what exactly did you do to my sister?" Izuku heard the first change in tone and expression from Rem since arriving and it made him break into a sweat. Her tone was cold as Ice with a glare that could very well slice through him as he remained rooted to the floor.
"I didn't do anything, I swear. Ram wanted to teach me and Eri how to read and write as to be able to handle more chores and she fell asleep at the end. I didn't want anyone to get the wrong idea of why she was sleeping in my bed so I tried calling Frederica or you to come get her but when I didn't see either of you I brought her to her room and then got out." Midoriya said as calmly as he could since he didn't want to aggravate the bluenette any more than he unintentionally has already by making himself more suspicious with his nervous attitude.
'She was right, I need to work on my confidence or I'll be looking even more suspicious like this.' Izuku thought to himself as he just waited to see what the blue maid would do or say as she move him aside from the door and looked inside. All the while, the greenette remained as stiff as a board as he saw her look back at him as the glare fade away and she returned to her stoic expression.
"Very well. If you say is true then I apologize for what my behavior." Rem said as she gave a small bow to Izuku. Surprised at how fast she could change her mood, Midoriya waved both hands in front of him in embarrassment.
"No, no, it's fine. You're looking out for your sister and it's understandable to be cautious if someone you just met is carrying her to her room." the greenette said as he just realize how suspicious that did sound out loud.
"The more you try to explain the more suspicious you are sounding but I see that sister is fine so I will let is pass for now." Rem said as Izuku shut his mouth as he knew that if he tried to say anything else he'll just become even more suspicious.
"Now, before you go, I brought you your uniform." Rem said as Midoriya just took notice of the folded attire that was on her arms. She handed him the jacket to at least see if it fit well on him and to the greenette, it felt perfectly suited for him. He rotated his arms and didn't feel his movements hindered by the jacket and if he was going to guess the rest of the clothes were probably also adjusted.
"However, the only missing part is the uniform shoes as we could find one in your side so I apologize once more for the inconvenience." The blue-haired maid said.
"It's alright. You don't have to apologize." Midoriya said as he looked down at his shoes with his iron soles and got an idea.
"Hey Rem, is it ok if I use my current shoes with the uniform?" Izuku asked curiously.
"Normally we wouldn't as to be uniform with everyone, however it would better than for you to be barefoot as it could tarnish Master Roswaal's image." Rem said as he agreed, it would be better than nothing plus if something were to happen while he was doing his work, he at the very least would have part of his equipment with him to fight.
"If you don't mind, I will be attending to my sister so I bid goodnight." The blue maid said in the same monotone voice as she handed the remainder of the uniform to Izuku's arms as she entered Ram's room, leaving the greenette standing in the hallway by himself. He looked down at the clothes that he would be wearing from that day onward as he released a sigh. It was still hard for him to believe that he was just brought into this world without any reason that he knows.
'What is everyone thinking back home? Is mom ok?' Midoriya thought to himself as he worried about his mom and the shock that she must have gotten when hearing that her son was just gone. When he returns home, the greenette knew he will apologize to her but until he finds a way back to his home, he will have to adapt not just for his sake but for the sake of the small girl now under his care. He began walking down the hall, back to his room with Eri to prepare for the next day.
"Protect him."
"Huh?" Midoriya heard a voice that caused him to halt in place and look behind him for the source of the sound. He inspected the hallway, looking up and down a few times but saw no one there. He continued walking, looking over his shoulder, and down the hall every so often until he reached and opened the door to his room.
'That was odd.' Izuku thought as he closed the door behind him at the strange occurrence.
There you have it. Now, what does that ending mean, well I won't say. Until next time, this has been FightingGamePlayer11, signing out.
