Part 25: Fight to the base

"Alright through here," Mike said as the group heading towards the WLF base walked through a building. Mike, members of his group along with Abby were leading the way since they were more familiar with the city.

As they walked through the building they heard the sounds of infected, "Where are they," Lily said looking around. They walked past an office room seeing a normal infected and a clicker. Johnny and Abby each took one down before they moved further through the building.

They reached the the other side of the building where Mike signaled them to stop. Johnny walked up seeing the entrance to the park, "This where the scar territory starts?" He asked and Mike nodded with a serious look on his face.

"I heard they execute people here," Abby said looking ahead.

"Yeah I went through here a few days ago looking for people, luckily I wasn't alone so we saved someone from being killed," Mike said before they walked across and headed into the park.

"Make sure to keep an eye out, they mostly use bows and arrows as weapons," a man from Mikes group said before they all heard a whistling sound.

"DOWN," yelled Mike before Johnny saw an arrow heading towards him. He stopped it in front of him, he turned it around before pushing his hand forward and sending it flying back in the direction it came from. He then heard a grunt of pain meaning he had hit the person who had fired.

"What the," one of Mikes men said looking surprised.

"Not now," Mike said as they saw scars moving through the trees. They took out their guns and started firing. Johnny shot one down with his assault rifle before moving to cover behind a different tree.

A scar aimed his bow at Johnny before he was shot in the head with a pistol. It was Leo who had fired and took cover as an arrow almost hit him. "Ahh," one of Chris's men yelled fighting one of the scars that tried to grab him. Darren helped him by pushing the man to the ground before Chris's man shot him.

"Lets go," Mike said as they got past the trees and found a large parking lot in front of them. They found both sides of the building were blocked off. "Is there an exit on the other side," Johnny said looking at Mike as more scars leaned off the edges.

"Yeah I found it when I was only my way through here last, look out," Mike said as some through a Molotov in their direction. Johnny pushed it away just a few second before it reached the ground. It then went off and luckily no one was close to it.

"Darren make sure no one gets hurt," Johnny said before flying to the top of the parking lot.

"How the hell," the scar who threw the Molotov said before Johnny shot him in the head. He then saw a group of scars coming from the floor below and crouched behind a car. He then opened his backpack trying to think of a way to get past. "The second I try to fly they'll shoot me with an arrow," Johnny thought before noticing a smoke bomb.

"Come out now," one of the scars said before Johnny through a smoke bomb right at them. Before they could reach it, it went off surrounding the group in smoke. When they backed away from it Johnny had flown over the smoke carrying his assault rifle. He opened fire, shooting them down before heading to the floor below and taking down the scars there. Remembering the parking lot was four floors he headed down the second where he saw a trap. He quickly disabled it and through another smoke bomb into the room.

He then flew outside and reached behind the smoke before shooting down the three scars. He looked out the other side noticing the group hadn't reached it. He jumped down and landed behind the scars shooting at the group that were taking covering from them, the enemy group was bigger then the ones on the other floors.

"HEY," he yelled getting their attention. Pulling back his fists he sent two old cars at the scars. A few them were killed from the impact while others tripped. They were shot down by the his group before they walked out of the parking lot.

"This isnt good," Mike said noticing another blockage in front of them.

"Don't tell me that was our only way through," Abby said.

"Hey what about over here," Dean said getting their attention. They found an opening in the road and there was store across from them.

"Can everyone make this jump," Mike said and everyone nodded.

"I'll go first," Johnny said before flying across. The rest jumped across with Johnny helping some of them land safely.

"Ahh," Leo said as someone grabbed him at the entrance to the store.

"Leo," one of his men said before Johnny ran in after him. He found a scar who was taller then the ones they ran into the parking. He was wearing a coat and carrying a large hammer. Leo was on the ground in front of him.

"Your all going to pay for coming here," he said.

Johnny pushed him away from Leo. Johnny held out his hand to him and Leo took it as the two of them looked at the tall man. "Where are the rest," he said.

"Lets make sure he cant reach them," Leo said looking determined.

"Right," Johnny said as the two of them ran at him. Johnny dodged his hammer and punched the man in the face. The man sent a kick at him before Johnny grabbed it and pushed him back. Leo shot the hammer out of the mans hand. The man looking angry picked up a box and through it at Leo who dodged and almost fell over.

Johnny ran at him with his sword but the man grabbed the blade with his bare hand. Johnny looked surprised before the man punched him across the face, making him fall over. "Oh no you don't," Leo said jumping on the mans back and started to choke him. The man dropped the sword and before he could try to pick it up it flew right into Johnnys hand. He then yelled as he ran at the man and stabbed him in the chest.

The man fell to the ground and Leo let him go. Johnny then cut his throat, killing him, "Thank you," Johnny said looking at Leo who nodded at him.

"No problem," he said before the rest of the group reached them.

"Come on, theres a building we can get through that can get us to the road," Mike said before they headed out of the store. After reaching more tall buildings they walked through the entrance for one them and went out the back before reaching the road. As they walked further down they found a barricade.

"Once we get past here were in WLF territory," Abby said looking serious.

"Can you move it?" Mike asked looking at Johnny who nodded before pushing his hand forward and the barricade was sent flying down the road. They walked forward as everyone held out a weapon ready for a fight. As they were walking through an alleyway through a building Mike held up his hand again.

"Is that a truck," Darren said looking serious as everyone held their weapons forward.

"It doesn't sound like its coming from next to us though," Dean said before Mike looked ahead. Johnny looked as well and they saw truck coming out from a turn ahead of them and heading in the direction of the WLF base.

"That's in the direction of the hospital," Mike said.

"Their bringing the injections to the cure," Abby said looking annoyed.

"We better hurry then," Johnny said as they started walking forward much faster then before. They reached a small building behind the WLF base and were taking a look at the building through the windows.

"Somethings not right, there should be more people patrolling," Abby said.

"You don't think their preparing for an assault on the island do you?" Mike asked as everyone checked their weapons.

"I think the assistant mentioned because of the injections they were much closer to being ready," Johnny said as he looked out the window.

"If what Johnny said is true then if they mix the cure with the injection they'll only be getting themselves killed," Lily said.

"Then lets Chris and the cure," one of his men said looking serious. They found an opening in the fence and Johnny helped make it bigger so everyone can get through. They took out the two guards before heading in the back entrance.

"If everything is still the same the cure should be on the second floor," Mike said.

"We need someone to guard our way out of here," Abby said looking at Johnny who nodded.

"Leo you got it," he said.

"Yeah," Leo said looking at his men who looked ready.

"Lets go get our leader back," one of Chris's men said before they walked further into the building. They avoided being detected as they reached the second floor. They found a guard in front of a room.

"We need to get past him to reach the medical office," Mike said. Johnny nodded before snapping his neck.

"What the," a familiar male voice said from the room.

"Chris," one of his men said rushing to the door. They reached the door finding it looked like a cell door and Chris was standing up next to a small bed.

"I'm glad to see everyone else is still alive, I knew they couldn't kill you easily Johnny," Chris said smiling before Johnny pulled the door open.

"Im just glad to see your alright, how is the," he said looking at the bandage on his shoulder.

"Nothing to worry about, listen these WLF guys are bad news," Chris said looking serious as one of his men gave his rifle while he took out a pistol to use, "Theres this crazy doctor who said he could give me powers," he said.

"Yeah we've met," Johnny said before explaining who the doctor was.

"Now I'm glad I didn't listen to him, my loyalty is to my group and theres no way I'm turning my back on the man who's helped me in the past," Chris said looking serious.

"Thanks, wait Chris you didn't happen to see someone carrying a box of injections around did you," Johnny said.

"Yeah I did a few minutes ago, they werent the cure though," Chris said looking confused.

"We need to move now before they can get them out of here," Mike said.

"Will go faster with a smaller group," Abby said looking at Johnny.

"Ill take the group back to our exit, Johnny you take one of your team with you," Chris said looking serious.

"Right, Lily and Dean go with him, Darren your with me," Johnny said.

"Got it, you two be safe," Lily said before most of the team headed to the exit. Johnny, Darren, Abby and Mike headed to the medical office and Abby kicked down the door only to look surprised.

"Abby what are you doing here and with him," a female voice said. It wasn't Mel, but it was someone from Abbys group that went to Jackson and wasn't happy about working with Johnny.

"Just hand us over the cure and then will be gone," Abby said pointing at the box near the desk. Johny recognized it as the one they brought the cure in.

"Where is everyone," Mike said.

"I'm not going to answer to a traitor like you," she said looking angry at him, "I heard the story you know, how you turned your back on us to save a couple of scars," she said.

"They werent scars anymore, they were just people trying to survive," Mike said.

"How many of us have they killed and how many are dead because of him," she said the last part looking at Abby then at Johnny.

"We didn't kill you when you tried to kill one of hours," Darren said looking annoyed.

"You don't understand, the fireflies were going to make a cure and they stopped it," the woman said.

"Are you blind, your literally standing next to the cure," Abby said nodding her head at the box.

"Yeah and what did her have to go through it to get it," the woman said.

"I had to go back to the place where I lost almost everything," Johnny said angrily pointing his gun at the woman's head, "Were taking the cure and were putting a stop to this right now," he said walking closer.

"Stop," she said grabbing reaching for a knife put Johnny looked at it before he sent it to the ground.

"Theres nothing you can do now, just walk away," Mike said aiming his weapon at her.

"You seem a lot more calm around Abby now, did you finally tell her or something," the woman said making Abby look confused while Mike looked annoyed.

"What is she," Abby said before they heard male voices from nearby.

"Whats going on down there," one voice said.

"THEY'RE IN HERE," the woman yelled before throwing a tray at Johnny who lowered his gun and shook his head. Sending the tray into the wall and then saw her run out of the room with a box. Johnny then noticed the large one was still open.

"She took the last of the cure, the rest are empty," Abby said looking in the box just as someone opened the door behind them. Mike shot the WLF soldiers just as more fired at them as they got behind cover.

"You two go stop her, will be good," Mike said as Abby got on the doors other side.

"Johnny," Darren said getting his attention. Johnny nodded before the two of them chased after the cure and reached the woman just as she stood in front of the door of the front entrance.

"Stop, just let use this to help us win," she said holding the box close.

"Sorry its not worthy dying for," Johnny said before taking the cure out of her hands and sent her flying into the wall after he grabbed the box. She screamed before her head hit the wall and she fell the ground groaning in pain.

"Here I should have room," Darren said turning around. Johnny opened his backpack and quickly put the cure in. He zipped it up just in time as more WLF soldiers came down the stairs. As he took out his gun Abby and Mike already shot them down.

"Theres back up coming at the back and front," Mike said.

"We need to warn the others," Johnny said as they ran to the back when they reached the path they found one of Chris's men opening the door. Chris was looking out the window and then looked surprised.

"Move," he said pushing the man out of the way after he had opened the door. Then before anyone could react a machine gun fired from outside, multiple bullets hitting Chris in the chest as he fell back.

Everyone looked shocked, "CHRIS," Johnny yelled running to his friend.
