Job Fifty One: The Dragon's Rematch
Far away from where the Fairy Tail guild and others were fighting the Empire, there was a barren, deserted wasteland with no signs of life. That is until something crashed into the ground and a large dust cloud kicked up into the air. Within the cloud, coughing could be heard and the dust began to clear out. "W-Where am I?" Wendy stood up and looked around and saw that there was nothing around except for a desolate space.
"There. No one should be bothering us now." Wendy turned where she heard that familiar voice and saw Esdeath standing quite a distance away from her with her arms crossed. She saw the older woman smiling at her.
Wendy didn't share the same feeling and looked at her angrily. "Why did you take me away from the others?"
Her glare didn't affect Esdeath. "Simple, really. I don't want anyone else to interfere. I want you all to myself. You are mine and mine alone." She noticed the bracelet the young dragon slayer was wearing. "I see you have a new bracelet. No doubt it's a replacement given to you by that other girl." She spoke with venom with those last two words.
Wendy immediately grabbed her bracelet as if she was trying to protect it. "It is and you're not destroying it again." She let go of the bracelet. "You can't hold me here forever. I will make it back to my friends!"
Esdeath laughed darkly at Wendy's words. "Oh, is that so? In that case, let me put this in words you can easily understand." She slightly lowered her head and pinched the tip of the bill of her hat. She raised her head and gave Wendy a deadly, piercing look. "If you want to get to the others, you'll have to go through me first." Those words struck deep into Wendy as she recognized them. Those were the same words she said to Esdeath the first time they fought.
There was something else important Wendy remembered. Something Najenda told her a long time ago. "If by the off chance that you do end up fighting Esdeath, do not hesitate even for a second. She will take any opportunity she finds." She knew this time wouldn't be like the first time she fought Esdeath and the last time. She'll face the full power of the Empire's strongest and then some. There was something else the young dragon slayer noticed and that was sensing a large and powerful magic power emanating from the older woman. She figured Esdeath was also enchanted and whoever did it must've been powerful. Despite the dangers, she had no choice but to face her head-on and win. That's what she can only do.
Insert Death Battle OST: Lost Ice Storms
The two looked at each other for several minutes and saw each other in each other's eyes. The wind blew softly through them as they said nothing to each other. Then Esdeath vanished from Wendy's sight and the young dragon slayer gasped. The next thing she knew, the older woman was already in front of her leaning forward and her hand grasped the handle of her rapier. With a single, smooth motion, Esdeath drew out her sword and swung it across from the right. The sword struck Wendy but as soon as she made contact, something felt off. The attack pushed the younger girl away instead of cutting through her body. She looked over in Wendy's direction and saw that the young dragon slayer had her right arm up in a guard stance while her left hand gripped her forearm to reinforce the guard. There was wind circling the arm tightly and seeing that impressed her. "I see. So, you used your magic to protect yourself from my attack. You've become cleverer since the last time I saw you, Wendy."
Wendy didn't say anything as she continued to glare at Esdeath and took in a deep breath. "Sky Dragon's Roar!" She unleashed her breath attack right at Esdeath.
Esdeath smiled as she placed her left hand forward and aimed at Wendy's attack. "Heulender Schneesturm!" She sent out a blizzard-like blast at the other attack and the two collided with one another. When they did, they exploded as a result. When it cleared, she clasped her hands together in front of her. "Große Schlucht!"
Wendy saw two giant walls of ice erupt from the ground and were quickly closing in on her. The walls collided with each other with a thunderous sound. Though Esdeath her attack got off successfully, she knew something didn't feel right. That's when she sensed something coming at her and looked up while swinging her sword rapidly deflecting projectiles. As soon as she had the smallest opening available, she raised a wall of ice to protect herself from the projectiles.
"Sky Dragon's Raging Storm!"
Esdeath jumped back from the ice wall before it was destroyed. When she did, she looked up and was surprised to Wendy hovering in the air with Mastema. "I see you have Mastema. Tell me, did you kill Run to get it?"
"Run's still alive." Wendy's words piqued Esdeath's interest. "So are Kurome and Wave. They all chose to leave because they didn't want anything to do with your war anymore! And Run gave me Mastema because he said a Sky Dragon should be able to soar through the sky."
Upon hearing that, Esdeath couldn't help but feel a little relieved hearing about her former comrades. "Is that so? Well, I suppose that is their choice. But, Wendy, you do realize this is a fight between two Imperial Arms users. You know that means, don't you?" The young dragon slayer was already aware of that fact. Only one of them was leaving this fight alive and she had no intention of dying. Esdeath gave a deranged smile to her. "So, let's enjoy this fight to the fullest!" She placed her left hand in front and aimed at Wendy. "Hagelsprung!" She snapped her finger and multiple giant hailstones appeared above the young dragon slayer. However, that wasn't enough pressure for the General to put on. "Heilige Hölle!" She released countless small hail stones at a fast speed right at Wendy.
Wendy flew off to the side to avoid the hail stones but the first of the larger ones cut her off as it crashed into the ground. The next one was quickly closing in and flew in the other direction while avoiding Esdeath's other attack. Her only choice was to fly higher into the air above the giant hailstones and Esdeath's attack. She managed to successfully avoid the attacks that were now above them. Only to see Esdeath above her using her ice to fly. Her eyes widened in shock while Esdeath held her left hand in front of her again. "Weissschnabel!" Countless sharp icicles formed behind her and she sent them all at once at Wendy. She quickly flew around narrowly avoiding the attacks while Esdeath closed the distance between them in a brief amount of time. Instead of a slashing attack this time, she aimed the tip of her sword at Wendy's heart.
Esdeath's sword pierced through Wendy's body but not in the spot she originally aimed for. Instead, Wendy moved her body a little to the left and the sword pierced through her right shoulder. However, this didn't mean she was out of danger yet as Esdeath was close enough to freeze her body solid but the same could be for her. "Sky Dragon's Roar!" She unleashed her breath attack at point blank range right at Esdeath's face. The force of the attack was enough to separate her from Esdeath and hurdled her toward the ground. The landing was rougher than Wendy would've liked but at least there was a large amount of distance between them. She groaned and grunted in pain while panting heavily from Esdeath's attack. She moved her shoulder a bit and winced at the pain. "I can still move it. Good." While she had the brief time, she should make the most of it. There was no way Esdeath would let her use her enchantments. "Physical ability rise, Deus Eques. Elemental resistance rise, Deus Corona. Ile Arms, Ile Armor, Ile Vernier. ENCHANT!" Her body brightly glowed for several seconds before fading away. She felt a little better now that she was enchanted but it was still too soon to relax. "I have to...make it back to my guild."
Her peace quickly went away once she sensed immense danger from behind and turned around just in time to see Esdeath standing behind her with her sword raised and a murderous look in her eye. Esdeath swung her sword at a diagonal angle and it went through Wendy. Or rather Wendy's afterimage and Esdeath were met with a kick to the right side of her face. "Sky Dragon's Talon!" She sent the older woman away from her and pulled her right arm back while the wind gathered in her palm. "Sky Dragon's Cyclone Destruction!" She sent a large, powerful cyclone right at Esdeath as it tore through the ground.
Esdeath managed to recover from Wendy's surprise attack and saw her next attack approaching her. She smiled as put her left hand forward and froze the attack in front of her. "Make it back to your guild?" She closed her hand and the attack shattered into countless pieces. "My dear, sweet Wendy, the only guild you're going back to is a box six feet in the ground! And that's if you're lucky." She slammed her left hand on the ground. "Arktisrausch!" A large pathway of rushing ice instantly froze over the ground and was quickly heading toward Wendy.
As the attack neared Wendy, she lowered her body and jumped while avoiding the attack. The wind surrounded her body. "Sky Dragon's Soar Charge!" She flew over to where Esdeath was while her body began to spiral.
Esdeath continued to smile as she'd save the younger girl the trip but remembered her previous attempts failed. Instead, she lifted her left hand. "Grauhorn!" A giant horn of ice erupted from the ground right where Esdeath wanted the attack to hit Wendy. And it did but instead of it piercing through Wendy, the attack was simply broken through and the young dragon slayer quickly closed the distance between them. With that strategy failing, she jumped to the right side out of the way of Wendy's attack. She turned around and was going to counterattack but the young dragon slayer stopped her attack and landed on the ground on all fours. She gathered the wind just below her right foot and launched herself right at Esdeath.
Esdeath didn't have time for a counter-attack and the wind circled Wendy's left fist before punching Esdeath straight into her face. "Sky Dragon's Iron Fist!" She moved her fist down and slammed the General into the ground where a large crater formed. She flew above Esdeath and spread her wings and end this fight once and for all.
"Kälte-Zyklon!" A large cyclone of bitter cold wind and ice erupted from Esdeath and Wendy had to move away from the attack. The cyclone ceased and Esdeath back standing again. She looked in Wendy's direction and pulled her left hand back. "Gefrorenes Elend!" She swiped her hand diagonally up and a giant wave of ice quickly followed heading toward the young dragon slayer.
With how fast the giant ice wave was approaching her, Wendy swung both her hands forward. "Sky Dragon's Wave Wind!" A mighty tornado appeared in front of her and canceled the other attack. Then the tornado was cut apart by Esdeath's sword as she quickly closed the distance between her and Wendy. The young dragon slayer couldn't react fast enough to avoid the attack and Esdeath swung her sword down once she was close enough. The sword cut across Wendy's body and she was sent crashing to the ground with a large dust cloud kicking up.
Esdeath landed on the ground and raised her left hand. "Weissschnabel!" Icicles appeared in the sky and were all pointing down where Wendy was currently at. She set her hand down and the icicles started to fall right below the sky dragon slayer.
"CHANGE MODE: ICE SKY DRAGON!" Strong, cold winds blew away the dust and obliterated the icicles before they could reach Wendy. Esdeath saw the young dragon slayer stand up in her Ice Sky Dragon form and seemed unharmed from her last attack. That was because, at the last second, she summoned the wind to cover her body to lessen the damage and protect her.
A wave of nostalgia overflowed Esdeath upon seeing this form once again. "Ah, I remember that form. You defeated me the first time you used it. Now then..." She held her left hand in front of her and snapped her fingers. In the next instant, she summoned a plethora of her Ice Calvery soldiers behind her. "Show me what you can do, my dear Wendy. Let us begin the second round, shall we?." In the past, Esdeath couldn't do such a feat without exhausting herself with creating one Ice Calvery soldier. Thanks to that scarlet-haired woman, she could create an army effortlessly and continue to do so.
An army that Wendy would have to face alone. Esdeath pointed her sword at Wendy and all of her Ice Calvery soldiers charged right at the young dragon slayer. Wendy saw the horde of Ice Calvery charging straight for her. As they neared her, she took in a deep breath. "ICE SKY DRAGON'S ROAR!" She unleashed a massively powerful breath attack of ice and wind at the first row of Ice Calvery Soldiers. They, and the ones rows behind them, were completely destroyed. When the blast faded, there were still more of them coming. Several of them had already reached her and the first one raised its lance. It thrust its lance forward at the young dragon slayer but she flew over and the wind and ice surrounded her right fist. "ICE SKY DRAGON'S IRON FIST!" She threw her fist forward and destroyed the first Ice Calvery soldier's head and landed behind it. As soon as she did, the next Ice Calvery soldier swung its lance at her from the side.
Wendy ducked to avoid the attack and with the wind and ice still surrounding her fist, charged straight at it and punched through its body. As she landed on the ground again, the third one raised its lance and swung down at the sky dragon slayer. Its lance hit the ground but Wendy was nowhere to be seen. That was because she was behind it and punched through its torso. After the third one was destroyed, more kept appearing and she was quickly surrounded. Once they surrounded her, they raised their lances at the same time. They all attacked at once and in one swift motion, Wendy flew into the air avoiding their attacks and, gathered ice in her left hand and the wind in her right. She merged them over her into a larger sphere of swirling ice and wind. "ICE SKY DRAGON'S RAGING STORM!" She threw the sphere below her and it struck the Ice Calvery soldiers that previously surrounded her. They were all blasted into countless pieces.
That was another group down but from where Wendy was, there were still countless more. She'd run out of magic power before eliminating all of the Ice Calvery and even if she did, Esdeath would still create more. If she wanted a chance of winning and surviving, she had to target Esdeath. Off the corner of her eye, she saw more of Esdeath's icicle attacks and avoided them. At least she has an idea of where the General was now. In a brief moment, she'd thought up a plan. It was risky and a mistake could cost her life but she couldn't think of anything else. She pulled her right arm back and the wind and ice circled her arm before she flew headfirst to Esdeath.
Esdeath eagerly awaited Wendy's arrival. "That's right, my sweet Wendy. Come to me." She held her sword in front and encased the blade with her ice. Even if Wendy did use her wind to protect herself from her attacks, her sword would be more than capable of cutting through it and her. As Wendy came closer, the General quickly realized something was wrong. No, she's flying lower sooner than I expected. Is she...IT'S A FEINT!" She raised her left up. "Eisspeer!" Multiple ice spears erupted from the ground underneath Wendy.
Wendy was barely avoiding Esdeath's attacks the closer she approached the ground. "I guess she figured it out but I should be close enough now." After dodging another ice spear, she struck the ground at an angle,, and the wind and ice that circled her arm erupted from her arm and shot out as a concentrated, spiraling attack. "ICE SKY DRAGON'S SPIRAL SPEAR!" Esdeath saw the attack approaching her quickly and it enveloped her. The young dragon slayer knew that wouldn't be enough and had the wind and ice circle her right forearm and hand. She flew into the center behind her previous attack and threw her arm forward. "ICE SKY DRAGON'S STRIKING SPEAR!" Her attack struck something hard and shattered instantly followed by hitting something else behind and heard a pained grunt. From the previous attack, Wendy continued to push Esdeath forward before and sent the General flying.
Esdeath managed to recover and slid across the ground on all fours until she stopped. She raised her head and leered at Wendy. "Großer Gletscher!" Rows of giant chunks of ice erupted from the ground and they were all headed for Wendy. She jumped over the attack and leaped off the glaciers one by one right toward Esdeath. The General conjured another ice sword in her other hand and ran toward her. When they were close enough, Esdeath swung her right sword at Wendy from the side. The young dragon slayer jumped over the attack and spun her body around before kicking the side of Esdeath's head. The older woman recovered from the attack and thrust her right sword back at Wendy. The young dragon slayer moved to the side to avoid the attack but Esdeath spun around counterclockwise and swung her left sword next. Wendy ducked to avoid the next attack but Esdeath swung her right sword up at her. The younger girl jumped back to avoid the last attack and took advantage of the brief second that was available to her. She pulled back both her arms with the wind and ice surrounding them. She jumped to Esdeath and thrust both arms at her. "ICE SKY DRAGON'S DOUBLE STRIKING SPEAR!" Ice and wind erupted from her arms and blasted Esdeath full force.
However, something didn't feel right to her. When her attack subsided, she saw that Esdeath wasn't in front of her. A dreadful feeling overcame her and turned around to see Esdeath behind her. She leaned forward and crossed her swords before launching right at Wendy. In what seemed like an instant, Esdeath uncrossed her swords simultaneously and delivered a bright blue cross-shaped slash to Wendy as she passed her by. "Nordkreuz!" In the next second, blood spurted out of Wendy's body and no sound came out of her mouth. She exited out of her Ice Sky Dragon Mode and fell to the ground with a heavy thud.

As the fight finally came to an end, Esdeath closed her eyes and sighed. Still, Esdeath wasn't the type of woman to finish things halfheartedly. he turned around to deal the final blow but was surprised to see the sight of Wendy already standing. "How are you still alive?" She was sure her attack cut her.
"Armor Maxile," Wendy replied. It was the highest tier of defensive enchantment she had and used it right before Esdeath attacked her. "And yet Esdeath's attack was still strong enough to cut through it." Even Ezel used his curse powerful to cut through her defenses but Esdeath managed to do it with sheer strength alone.
Usually, Esdeath despised those who didn't know when to quit but for Wendy, she made the exception. Actually, she was quite impressed. "I'm surprised you can still stand, but Wendy, you do realize you can't win." Wendy saw Esdeath's Ice Calvery surrounding them. "I doubt you'll have strength left to fight both my Ice Calvary and me at the same time. Sooner or later, I will kill you and after I kill you, I'll be taking my Ice Calvary with me to massacre the rest of your friends. That is if the rest of the Empire hasn't done so already. It'll be the end of you all."
"You'll be the end of us, huh?" Wendy couldn't help but smile and chuckle a little.
Esdeath narrowed her eyes as soon as she heard Wendy's laugh. "What's so funny to you?"
Wendy continued to smile at Esdeath. "You're not the first person to underestimate Fairy Tail and you and the Empire are going to learn that the hard way."
