And as you probably will notice this story follows Nowaki's point of view. Sure there'll be some mention of Naruto and some cameos but this is wood for brains story.

Tales of the Elemental Nations 2
Chapter 1: the school life of a Nowaki, and the return of the chunin exams.
Land of Fire, the hidden Leaf Village, morning.
The day was Thursday September 27th nearly two years since Nowaki Senju started going to school. Our Story begins in the village hidden in the leaves where Sakura Haruno wearing a sleeveless red shirt and blue skirt with her headband off, she was walking through the hallway of the hokages mansion before entering the hokages office. There she saw the fifth Hokage that was also her current master sleeping with a bunch of paperwork on the left side which indicate they were done. "Excuse me lady Tsunade? It's time to wake up you have a council meeting today." Sakura said gently trying to wake Tsunade without agitating her to much.
"Ten more minutes." Tsunade said not wanting to wake up. Just to be clear she could have used Shadow clones to do her paperwork for her but a lot of people including shizune always nag her not to saying that would make her appear lazy and irresponsible using a jutsu like that.
Sakura rolled her eyes before an idea came to her. "Oh by the way Nowaki's progress report came in with a note attached to it. By the looks of it, it looks like trouble."
"What did that kid brother of mine Do!? I warned him what would happen if he got into trouble!" Tsunade woke up in a fit of agitated rage.
"Glad to see your finally up lady Tsunade." Sakura said to the fifth Hokage earning her an agitated look. "But seriously Nowaki's progress report came in with a note attached to it. I haven't read it so I'm not sure if he's in trouble or not." Sakura said handing the leather over to Tsunade.
Tsunade I took the letter and opened it. "Looks like a permission slip to a field trip that's happening a month from now so at least the kids not in trouble. Lucky break for him otherwise I would have had to ground him from rock collecting for a while. What about Xion? Didn't she get a permission slip?"
"She has a Kendo tournament next month so those in the Kendo Club can't go. Although I heard from Bronya that she's going." Sakura said.
"That's good to hear." Tsunade said getting up. "Well since I'm up now might as well get this meeting over with."
"If I may ask what is this meeting about?" Sakura asked.
"Its Danzo's hearing, his final hearing before he's executed next week." Tsunade said. After Danzo turned himself in he was sent to prison put on trial for the many crimes over the years. To everyone's surprise Danzo plead guilty and was given the death penalty. Before his execution there will be a final hearing for Danzo to plead his case before he is sentenced to death. Tsunade is hoping to get some information about Orochimaru and possibly the a Akatsuki considering Jiraiya is still MIA. "Why do i get the feeling something unexpected is going to happen?"
Ember City, Ember City Academy dorms
Ember City Academy Is the largest educational system In the land of fire. Sure there other Schools in the land of fire flood there mostly small ones. Ember city Academy otherwise known as ECA was Designed to hold both Middle school and high school Considering Some of the students came from the leaf village's Ninja Academy's extra curriculum program that allows young students who fail to become genin a chance to find a new path to be a working member of the fire nation, and Are many programs to choose from.
Like for instance Those who still want to be ninja can become fire ninjas who work at the Fire Capital, Some become samurai that works at the capital, Some can become part of the police force in Ember city, or a Slayer who hunts Monsters, or get a regular job at either the city or capital. Ember city is an essential part of the land of fire because Ember Academy helps it's citizens become essential parts of the country. (Basically it a school quite similar to regular schools, helping kids Find a path that contributes to society)
And right now we find ourselves in a bedroom where a young boy with short spiky light brown hair wearing teal coloured pajamas was sleeping.
Just then his phone rang very loudly making him wake up. The boy although a bit agitated not wanting to get up reached for his phone only pointing his finger at it, the call was accepted without it being touched. "Morning Xion." The boy said his face still on his pillow.
"Morning Nowaki, hope you're still not sleeping cause it's 6:15 and I'm waiting outside the boy's dorm for you. I kinda need your help with something before school starts." Xion said on the other line outside. She's wearing a white button-up shirt with a scarlet red blazer jacket with a matching skirt that reached her knees. This was the school's uniform.
"10 more minutes please. I not ready to go another 7 hours of school yet." Nowaki said lifting his head up revealing his Amber eyes that were once Hazel.
"The School year just started a week ago you shouldn't be that board of it already?" Xion said. "Look just help me do this thing for the Kendo Club right quick and I'm sure you'll be more than awake to endure the school day. I mean you've done well so far making it to 8th grade."
"...Oh alright. give me ahhhhh... 3 minutes and I'll be right there." Nowaki answered hanging up the phone before getting up. He got out of bed and quickly looked himself in the mirror then suddenly he glowed yellow and his pyjamas turned into the boy's uniform which was a white button of T-shirt, scarlet red blazer shirt with matching pants. He opened his mouth to see that his teeth were clean and his hair was now free of any bed hair. Then from mid air his backpack appeared on his back in a degital like manner. After looking himself over one more time he looked over at his nightstand where a Black and Orange Coloured Cube was. "I'm off, see you later Mom!" Nowaki said leaving out the room.
Once outside he saw Xion at the front gate in front of the dorms with the dorm manager for the boys who was sweeping the walkway. He was a tall muscular man who looked to be in his thirties of Hispanic heritage but Asian as well with brown messy hair that seemed to cover his eyes. "Hey there Xion, and good morning Mr. Sado."
"Good morning Nowaki." Mr Sado said with a quiet voice.
"Morning Nowaki, you ready?" Xion asked.
"Yeah, as ready as I'll ever be for a regular day at school." Nowaki said as he and Xion left.
Once at the Kendo club Xion explained that the clubs wooden Practice swords were beginning to get chipped and damaged as well as there wooden training dummy and also pointing out a few damaged wood plating on the floor and wall. "So Basically you want me to use my woodstyle to fix your club's staff, Is that all?"
"Yeah pretty much." Xion said rubbing the back of her head while laughing slightly. "I know this is a job for the school to get us new equipment and fix the room but there is a wait list and also we would have to cancel a few practices while they're doing that and our captain wants us to get as much practice as we can before the upcoming tournament. So the girls asked me if I could get you to help us out with this. You don't mind, do you?"
"No, not at all. If anything this gives me a chance to test out the new tricks captain Yamato taught me during the summer." Nowaki answered as he began to focus his Chakra. He clapped his hands together and put them on the ground where suddenly a couple of wooden dummies appeared outside and also from the ground new wooden swords. And when he placed his hands on the walls of the club the broken floor boards and busted walls began to close. "And there you go! Renovation all done! Will that be cash or credit?"
Xion laughed slightly. "How about a thank you gift and a favour from the club. There was actually something I wanted you to look at. It's something I think will help you socialise better with modern people In a way that doesn't bore you."
"Really? What is it?" Nowaki asked, ever since coming to Ember city he has been trying to be more adapt with modern society given his Old world mindset. It's not that he's unintelligent it's just given what he is and who his mindset is based off It's difficult for him to understand certain things but at the same time he does understand them. "Just another issue that I blame Itachi for." Nowaki said in thought remembering the person that messed up his memories.
"That's a surprise for later after school. But right now time for us to head to school."
"Awwww! Don't remind me!" Nowaki complained.
Ember city Academy, classroom
In a class room made up of at least 20 students Nowaki and Xion were in homeroom listening to their teacher's lecture on history.
"Now Class, Would anyone like to Explain To the whole class the full story of how the veil nations gates came to be came to be?" A female teacher asked her students. She got a few hands up but noticed that Nowaki was looking out the window With his head laid down. "Mr Nowaki! Perhaps you would like to be the one to explain To the class on the history of the veil gates!" The teacher said in a loud voice to get Nowaki's attention.
And luckily she did as Nowaki was surprised quickly turning his head as all eyes were on him. Quickly trying to remained calm he quickly thought about the question she asked and for a mere second his eyes glowed before turning back to normal.
"In 1971 A few good years after the 1st great shinobi war and world World War II a Group of scientists led by a man named Ansum in the United Nations unsanctionally experimented on a Box of mysterious origins that they salvaged from the nazi party. The Box exploded and caused a dimensional effect on the planet that opened the veil gates in certain locations. One in America, Japan, Britain, China, Africa, Germany, and Brazil, Each one led to a certain location. Like how a veil gate connected old ember town to America and how Japan was connected to the medieval nations." Nowaki answered surprising most of his classmates considering they didn't think he was listening.
"Very good! It's nice to know that you're listening. And You should all know that after studying these gates further the first one to open was the one in Japan which led to a battle in one of Japan's major cities. Does anyone know what battle that was?" The teacher act before seeing a female student lift her hand. "Yes Rana?"
Rana is a Short and thin girl With long Orange wavy hair and thick eyebrows and Brown eyes. She has freckles on her face and her left ear is pierced. "It this was the battle of Ginza. A large army of 100,000 troops attacked Tokyo, Ginza District. They had the upper hand at the beginning killing and capturing a dozens of civilians, until an off duty JSDF soldier managed to rally The police force To hold the perimeter long enough for the army to move in. The soldiers with their spears swords, arrows, and even wyvern riders were no match for Japan's superior fire power And quickly began to lose soldiers Both in casualty and prisoners of war and were forced to retreat. It was that day that Mark the end of days of the old Empire."
"Very good! Make sure to remember this class because we'll be having a test on this very soon and we'll continue this lecture tomorrow." Just as she said that the bell rang and she gave them all permission to be dismissed.
As they were leaving some of the students were talking amongst themselves.
"Man I would have loved to have been there To see the look on those soldiers when they realized they were screwed!"
"I know right! But what you expect when you bring a knife to a gun fight!"
"I wonder if tomorrow will be Discussing Is the battle between the land of fire and America and the eventual alliance against the land of sky?"
Nowaki and Xion were walking about until he noticed Bronya and ran up to her so they could have lunch together.
They went up to the roof Where they usually eat lunch. While they were eating Xion started making conversation. "By the way Nowaki, you did An excellent job answering the question on the veil gates. I don't think the others back home would believe it unless they saw themselves."
"Honestly the question wasn't that hard." Nowaki said lifting up the top of his Lunch Box to see his packed taiyaki chicken. "But I do wonder about one thing, Whatever happened to that Ansum guy and those other scientists?"
"Its Highly probable that they were either killed in the cosmic explosion or teleported to another dimension, no one really knows. Barely anyone knows the identity of the other scientists other than the head scientist himself. Although they say two of them was from the Mage's Asociation." Bronya said. "Also I have gotten information that the chunin exams will be happening next week."
"What?" Nowaki said surprised. He didn't hear anything about this from his sister.
"You shouldn't be too surprised, I just heard about it yesterday from Sakura. Apparently Ino wants her to team up with her and Choji considering Shikamaru is already a chunin and is going to be a proptor for the exam." Said Xion.
"Ok I get that but I don't get why she didn't tell me about it? I would have took off school to help." Nowaki said.
"She's still not sure if she wants to enter this year. I mean she hasn't been part of a team for a while now." Xion answered.
"Oh yeah..." Nowaki said looking a bit saddened. Ever since Sasuke went rogue and Naruto moved away Sakura has been keeping herself busy, honestly more busy than she should be. "Hey I heard During the last tuning exam they had in the leaf village they had assistance to help the proptors, Is it the same for this year too?"
"It was mention that the exam will be hosted by not just the leaf village but the sand village as well." Bronya said. "Also for extra security they're asking another village to work as security to make sure there's no fighting between persistence." She then looked at her watch and saw that it was almost time for lunch period to be over.
"Man, This exam sounds like it'll be very interesting, wish I can be a part of it." Nowaki said feeling a bit left out.
"Well there might be a way for you to help out during the exam." Xion said getting Nowaki's full attention. "I heard that Emilio senpai was asked to do a video project on the exam and hes currently looking for an assistant. I'm sure if you ask he'll let you help."
"Emilio Ishida?" Nowaki said a bit nervous as he remembered his two-year senpai. Emilio is the son of Uryu Ishida a doctor who sometimes a substitute teacher and Nemu Ishida. His opinion on the whole family is that they're very... weird, smart but weird. Emilio mostly keeps to himself only responding when the teacher ask for him. And when he sees him outside of class he's mostly writing something in a notebook, one time he caught Nowaki looking at him and instantly started writing something in his notebook which weird him out. Another thing that confused Nowaki about him was the fact that he graduated from the Ninja Academy the same year as Neji Tenten and Lee yet chose to attend this school. If Nowaki dose decide to become his assistant he'll have to make a mental note to ask him about that.
Leaf Village, tea shop
Sakura got off her shift at the hospital and was now with Ino at the tea shop regarding her offer to compete with her and choji in the chunin exams. "So Sakura, have you come to a decision yet because me and Choji could really use your help." Ino said hopeful.
"Yeah I have, and my answer is yes. All enter the chunin exams with you guys." Sakura answered.
"That's great! I'm not sure what me and Choji would have done if you said no." Ino said relieved. There was another option a girl named kurai who may or may not be Choji's girlfriend. She was good with a sword and given choji's description she was capable of defeating one of the sound ninjas by herself. The only problem was that Ino wasn't sure she could get along with her giving Kurai's tomboyish attitude, and also she wanted their teammate to be at least just as smart as Shikamaru.
Ino then noticed a somewhat worried look on Sakura's face and asked what was the matter. "Its nothing I was just remembering the first time I entered the chunin exams with Sasuke and Naruto." As much as she would want to say her first experience with the exam was memorable it wasn't the good kind of memorable. She didn't do as well as she hoped barely making it past the second exam and failing in the third exams preliminaries. But the worst part is that it was the event that let them to encounter Orochimaru who began to Darkly influence Sasuke to his side. Not to mention the invasion that happened during the finals. What's Sakura is worried most about is that something similar might happen again.
Just as they we're talking about other stuff they saw team guy come in. The two girls saw them and called them over. After getting their tea and some food they began talking.
"So your entering the chunin exams with Ino and Choji, that's good. The chunin exam would be boring if there wasn't any decent competition other than team 8." Tenten said.
"Speaking of them I just got word that they came back from their week-long mission so I can't help but wonder how strong they've might have gotten especially Hinata?" Sakura asked.
"Well since she came back from her trip to Nimbani people from the main family have been challenging her to see the results of her training. As you can guess the results are quite extraordinary. It's possible that she might be stronger then her father." Neji said.
"Have you challenged her?" Ino asked.
"Not yet but if we end up fighting in the chunin exams then I'm curious to see how well I do against her." Neji answered honestly.
"Yes, that would be an amazingly youthful fight to see. But what I'm really interested in is if the Hayabusa Village, the Mugen tenshi and black spider Clan will send participate just like the last time? Especially since I won't be able to fight Koinzell in the exam." Said Lee feeling slightly disappointed that he won't be able to have a rematch with the person that beat him during the last exam.
"That's probably a good thing because I'm not too fond of the idea of possibly fighting him or someone like him." Tenten said in her thoughts until he got a call on her phone and went to answer it. "Yes? Hey Nito, so what did see say?... Yakumo said yes! That's great! Is she bringing those two with her? Good I'll make sure to bring Neji and Lee, and you bring Emilio and Gen... I'm sure it'll work out, I'll see you tomorrow night, bye Nito." Tenten hung up her phone and saw that everyone was looking at her which made her feel kind of embarrassed. "I was was on the phone with one of my friends from the academy, we're putting together a little class reunions and she just got a call from another friend of ours we haven't been in contact with until recently last year."
"A friend of yours from the academy? Oh yeah you guys must have had at least two more teams that graduated along with you? I'm surprised we haven't met them?" Sakura said as if she never really met any of the graduating Ninja from the class before hers.
"Well there's a reason for that. Our class had team number 16, 11, 5, and 2. Team 2 were students from Ember City, they each had specific goals that they wanted to do and attended the Ninja Academy in order to gain experience and a ninja license so after graduation they went back to Ember City. Team 5 was relocated to our villages Outpost City in the medieval Nations so it's hard to keep in contact with them, as for team 16 two of them got suspended from being ninjas when they try to make a civilian kid commit a crime 2 years ago." Lee explained. The last team he was talking about were the two people that tried to make Danki commit a crime but were stopped by Anjin which was the first night of the devil of the Hidden leaf. (A fun little call back to my very first story)
"Who were these ninja? Team 2 and 5?" Sakura asked now interested in knowing who her other seniors were.
"Team 2 members are Nitora Take, Emilio Ishida, and Gen Kaisugi. Team 5 members are Menma Arashi, Yakumo Kurama, and Iwabee Yuino." Neji said calling their names.
"Wait, Menma? He's the kid that used to deliver newspapers to my neighborhood, I didn't know he became a ninja?" Sakura said remembering a paperboy that used to parkour around her neighborhood. "So what are they like, and what kind of techniques do they use? If they graduated alongside you guys must be pretty good?"
"Why not come with us tomorrow night and meet them, this is the perfect chance for you guys get to meet my best friend since the academy Iwabee." Lee suggested.
"Oh no, we shouldn't. I mean this is your class reunion so wouldn't this feel like intruding?" Sakura not wanting to feel like a unwanted guest.
"I'm sure the others wouldn't mind if anything they would probably want to meet you guys too. In fact on the way here I was asking Neji if Hinata, Kiba, and Shino wanted to come." Tenten said before looking over and Neji. "So what did she say?"
Neji sighed before answering. "She said yes. In fact she's excited to see Menma again after not seeing him for a long time."
"Hinata knows him? Were they friends in the academy?" Ino asked.
"Not really Hinata knows Menma because he was a very close acquaintance of mine during the academy and so he visit our house on a few occasions." Neji said.
"An acquaintance?" Both Ino and Sakura said confused.
"Don't let Neji make you think otherwise, Menma was practically Neji's only friend in the academy. He was just too stubborn to admit it back then." Tenten corrected.
"Well on the contrary sure Menma was my friend but I can't say that I was ever really his friend. Given how I used to act in the past I probably could have been more appreciative if not a bit nicer." Neji said sounding a bit guilty.
"Which makes this a perfect opportunity to rekindle your bonds of friendship Neji! We're meeting up in a karaoke bar in tanzaku town so it's the perfect time to do that duet we all wanted to see in Hong Kong that you were too stubborn to do." Lee said.
"And my answer is the same. Never in a million years will anyone see me performing in a karaoke bar let alone doing a duet!" Neji said sounding embarrassed at the thought of singing in public. This caused the small group to start laughing.
Ember City Academy dorms, nighttime
Nowaki wearing his usual pajama clothes was with some of the dorm kids in the center part of the dormitory where they sometimes have movie night. He was sitting on the floor next to Xion and Bronya watching a very old movie. Xion from the corner of her eye noticed Emilio who was wearing a purple t-shirt and black pajama pants with arrows on it. He has black hair with two long bangs on each side of his face, light skin with freckles on his face and uniquely purple eyes underneath clear glasses. He looks as if he just got a phone call.
"Hey, Nowaki I see Emilio leaving, this maybe a good chance to ask to be part of his chunin exam project." Xion said getting Nowaki's attention.
"Oh good, thanks for letting me know." Nowaki said getting up to go follow Emilio. When he caught up to him he saw that he was talking with someone on the phone.
"So you girls are planning a karaoke reunion huh. Well I hope you don't expect me to sing... Oh really? I would actually pay money to see that. But anyway I'll be there... Ok good night." Emilio said before hanging up his phone to look at Nowaki. "And what may I owe the pleasure of this conversation, Nowaki Senju?"
"Hey there Emilio senpai. I was just coming to ask if you were still looking for an assistant for your chunin exam project." Nowaki said said trying to keep casual.
"I see word gets around. Yes I'm still looking for an assistant although honestly I was hoping you would be the one to ask." Emilio said confusing Nowaki. "Allow me to elaborate. It's highly likely that your friends in the leaf Village will be participating and you would most likely want to at least see did she own any exams up close instead of waiting for news of it to go public. Honestly I'm doing this project for my class because I am curious on how discern individuals as well as the relationship development between the leaf and sand."
"So this is more about satisfying your curiosity than getting a good grade for it?" Nowaki asked getting a yes from his senpai. "This guy is like Shino and Kabuto put together that its creepy. So that that means you have no problem with me being your assistant then, right?"
"No not at all. I'll make sure to call on you to let you know how work going about this. So if you'll excuse me I'm thinking about turning in, good night." Emilio said walking away.
"Ok then good night to you too. Man that was easier than I thought." Nowaki before heading back to go finish watching the movie.
After the movie was finished Nowaki went back to his room and just when he was about to open the door he looked to see a new face who look to have just moved into the room next door to his. He had short orange hair orange eyes wearing a black hoodie shirt wet blue pajama pants. The kid noticed him staring at him and waved. "Hey, names Kazui!" The boy said with a friendly smile.
"Hey to you too, names Nowaki. You just moving in?" Nowaki asked.
"Yeah, I start class tomorrow. They said they'll have someone give me a tour." Kazui said.
"Well hopefully you get a good tour guide because I pretty much memorized the entire area on my second day of school not to toot my own horn or anything." Nowaki said boasting a bit and unknowingly jinxing himself for tomorrow. After a few more minutes of conversation they both said goodnight and entered their rooms.
Once in he looked over at the cube that holds his mother. "Hey mom I'm back." Nowaki said before getting on his bed missing when the cube for a brief moment glowed. He noticed something and looked at the cube before shrugging his shoulders. He still doesn't fully understand how the cube works but he can mentally throw his subconscious in there and visit his mother koharu and so long as a certain place on the cube is an open koharu can't get out. It's not that he wants his mother in prison because despite her history as a Crime Boss he still loved her but for the sake of his sister who he knows his mother doesn't like and not knowing what she'll do if she ever got out it's safer for everyone if she stays in there for a while.
He summoned his backpack from his mental storage and took out the game Xion wanted him to play an RPG called Gun Gale Online that was a very popular he would need a mental headband to play it. Well for an average person that is he could most likely just use his mental abilities to enter the server game itself but he promised Xion and Bronya that he wouldn't play until they we're ready to.
After putting away the game and turning off the lights Nowaki decided to turn in. sure he doesn't necessarily have to go to sleep but he likes going to sleep.
Dream world
In a vast desert you could see two giant creatures fighting one being the one tails shukaku and surprisingly another shukaku the only difference is it was pure black. "Give up! Gaara! look around you! The Sand Village is gone so you're title as the Kazekage is meaningless! So why? Why do you still fight?!"
Gaara's voice could be heard from the mouths of shukaku. "The Sand Village may be gone, but it's people still live. So as long as me and shukaku still have power we will take you Down! This my last act as Kazekage!"
"Then so be Itttt!" Black shukaku yelled as it lunged at shukaku biting down hard causing it to scream out in pain.
Nowaki woke up in a fright after seeing that nightmare. He looked at his clock to see that he's only been asleep for an hour. Although worried about his dream he decided to think about it tomorrow and went back to sleep although he was now worried about what this could mean.
And done!
Here is the first chapter tales of the elemental Nations 2. This coincides with Night Fox 2 as I said before this is one day before the first chapter of Naruto story. So yeah while Naruto is dealing with Vigoor and rock ninjas Nowaki will be dealing with the chunin exams and the Sand Village.
As you may have noticed I added some Bleach characters so don't be surprised if you see anymore as well as some other unexpected characters.
As for the reunions that Tenten is putting together for her graduating class make sure to look back on menma prequel to at least get a brief rundown.
