Ch 5

Oton Walked through a dessert looking like area with three newbies tagging along. A scruffy mid-aged man, carrying a Gunlance and wearing the Brigade armor, asked "Oton, how much further to the Everwood Forest?"

Oton Looked back at the man and replied "Gus we are in, the Everwood Forest."

Gus looked around with disbelief "Oton look around, we're in a freaking desert."

"Exactly." Oton said as he trudged on.

Gus looked at Oton's back "I don't get it."

One of the other newbies, wearing the Gobul armor, piped up "Oton, I know that Gus is usually the one who doesn't understand anything, but can you fill us in on the details?"

Turning around Oton looked back at the girl that spoke, "You know you've got a point Koren, though if y'all went to the classes maybe you three idiots would've learned something."

Walking to the cliff that was now behind him, Oton grabbed a vine that was hanging "You three see this here vine?"

The other newbie, wearing the Ranger armor, said "Oton of course we see the vine, what do you think we are stupid and blind?"

"Yes R I believe that you are."

"That's Princess R to you!"

Smacking his forehead Oton asked "Why are you in my group again?"

"There's actually a explanation for it."

"Oh, do tell."

"Well I didn't want to be in Grimlock's group cause he's a pyromaniac, and there were already three people who wanted to go with Roy."

"So I'm stuck with you?"

"Pretty much."

Oton mumbled "Why me?" Than getting back to what he was talking about Oton continued with his explanation "Anyways, this isn't a vine, it's a tree root."

The newbies looked around and Gus asked "Where's the tree?"

Oton smiled, and thrust his thumb behind his head "About a league that way."

The trio looked behind him and saw the line of trees for the first time, leaving all three of them to say. "Oton you must be joking, cause that's a little far."

"The trees of the Everwood Forest move in a set diameter roughly the size of a league. If you were to measure the forest it would probably be about 20 leagues, or 70 miles, whichever one you want to use."

The newbies looked mind blown at what they just heard. "Oh yeah one more thing, the trees move constantly."

"I'd hate to live here You'd get lost so many times." Gus decided.

"Not true, there is a lake in the middle of the forest that you'll be happy to know doesn't move."

Koren asked "Can we just continue the expedition?"

"That'd be a good idea since we've got a lot to do," Oton continued walking.

"What have I gotten myself into." R said as the three followed Oton.

"Koren what did you do?!" Oton yelled as he dodged the Stygian Zinogre keeping it occupied while his students were taking care of a few Jaggi and a flock of Velociprey.

"Why are you blaming me?" Koren asked as she sliced through a couple of Velociprey's with her duel blades. "all I did was blow a horn."

Oton dodged as the Stygian Zinogre shot its black red lightning, which hit two jaggis. "Well than, don't you think that you must've blown the field horn?"

Gus activated the wyvern fire on his gun lance that took out a couple of Velociprey, R got hit by one of the Velociprey and disappeared into a crevice in the ground. After shooting his gun lance, Gus went to work on setting up a pitfall trap "Oton, I set a trap."

"Oh, so you did learn something!" Oton said as he Lead the Stygian Zinogre to the trap. As soon as the Stygian Zinogre stepped onto the pitfall trap and fell into it, Oton went to work setting up bombs. Going over to a outcropping of rocks and threw a stone at the bombs which blew up causing the Stygian Zinogre to disappear into the ground "That wasn't supposed to happen, what a waste of good material… Well lets get going. Wheres R?" Oton turned to the newbies to see that one of them was gone.

Gus looked towards the area that he had last seen R "She was just over there?"

Oton walked to the area and saw a switch ax next to a crevice. Oton picked up the switch ax and put it in his storage, he looked back at the two newbies and said "Hey one of you two drop a flare down that hole to see if this is the same cavern."

Koren pulled out a flare and about to light it, when a white monster that looked like a Fulgur Anjanath and a Velocidrome decided to have a baby together, walked into view. Oton looked at the the monster "JOSEPHINE!"

Josephine wilted under Otons anger, "Josephine I told you to stay home."

Josephine wagged her tail and whimpered like reprimended puppy, "Koren drop the flare."

He looked back into the crevice and saw the flare and… "Oh boy," Oton said as he saw what R fell into for what Oton saw was a Nerscylla's nest. As the flare kept falling it went by a Nerscylla which looked up and waved, "Uh Oton did that Nerscylla just wave at us?"

Oton went over to two and picked them up "Yes it did but that's the least of our problems."

Oton looked at Josephine "Josephine stay!"

"Oton, what are you doing?" Gus asked looking worried.

"We are going after R." Oton said right before jumping into the crevice made by the bombs as the two newbies screamed their lungs out.

What appeared to be a man dressed in the GX Esurient armor and not wearing any weapons walked through the Nerscylla nest when he stumbled upon R. "What's she doing down here?" He bent to get a closer look, "and unconscious nonetheless."

He proceeded to pick her up when he heard screaming from above he looked up to see a shadow falling through a hole, "I swear this world is full of idiots." He picked up R and said to himself, "lets get you out of here so I can come back and get the other idiots."

Landing in the nest Oton dropped the two newbies, "Alright lets find R before she gets eaten."

"What about us, are you not worried that we're going to get eaten!" Gus panicked as he swung his gunlance around.

"Well everyone needs to experience a Nerscylla nest if they can meaning that its safe p.s. if your a newbie hunter don't try this yourself without proper supervision."

"Okay what was with that last little bit that made you sound like one of those narrators on tv."

"Other than the fact that if your a newbie that you don't want to attempt it, I don't know."

"Can we please go find R now, this place is giving me the creeps." Koren said before reaching into her pouch and pulling out her torch "Do you want me to light the torch Oton?"

"I'm not sure this is supposed to be a sneaky operation."

"Okay, I guess I'll light it then." Koren said lighting the torch revealing a Nerscylla which surprised all three of them and to which Gus responded to by proceeding to charge up a wyvern fire.

Oton jumped towards Gus, but not before the wyvern fire was shot "NOOOO!"

Placing the unconscious R down in front of a Nerscylla "Watch her, don't eat her, and I'll be back." After saying this the man started to walk back into the nest.

As he took two steps into the nest, he saw flames licking at the webs which made him pivot on his back foot and walked back in the direction that he came from "Fine deal with it, I don't need to risk my neck to help some imbecile!"

The Nerscylla made a noise "What is it now," the man said as he looked behind him only to see Josephine coming into view. "Oh great now I have to deal with another monster!" The man said running towards R, the man stopped as he realized that the monster growled at him as she got closer to R. He picked up R and carried her over to the monster, than her placed her down in front of the monster "I hope this works."

"Gus will you hurry it up." Oton said as he cut a small Nerscylla that was blocking their path in half, than grabbed Gus who was lagging and threw him towards the entrance that Koren was standing near. "Get a move on!"

"Aaaah, oof!" Gus hit the ground next to Koren and rolled through the entrance. Oton was about to head to the entrance when he smelled gunpowder? He looked around and saw barrel bombs strewn all over the place, "bugger."

The bombs blew up which sent Koren flying through the entrance, and caused Otons surroundings to crumble. As Oton fell with the debris he shot his grappling hook at the entrance, with the hook embedding itself into the roof of the entrance he ascended.

What greeted Oton when he got to the entrance of the old Nerscylla nest was a man bowing down in reverence before Josephine "Oh great one I offer this fair maiden as a sacrifice."

Josephine looked over at Oton as he said "uh stranger what are you doing?"

The stranger got up and dusted himself off "Well ya see, this monster seemed very interested in this girl." He glanced over to Oton than looked back at Josephine, "So I was wondering if this monster belo..." He stopped what he was saying and looked back at Oton "Oton… is that you?"

"Uh yeah, am I supposed to be dead?"

"Well you've been gone for," the stranger turned to his Nerscylla "what was it six years? Maybe it was eight." Than he turned back to Oton "So yeah, you and your party were MIA, we thought it was weird. Ya know weak monster and all, exactly like lao-shan chuck."

R stirred and opened her eyes and saw the Nerscylla she than proceeded to scream than faint. "Whats wrong with her, never seen a Nerscylla before?" The stranger asked Oton.

"She's scared of spiders, so thus she is scared of any Temnocerans."

"What's a spider?"

"I'll explain later, lets find a place to stay for the night." Oton said as he picked up R and walked up to Josephine. "Josephine I need you to lay down, since your here might as well use you."

"Is that your mount?" The stranger asked as he got on his Nerscylla.

Oton placed R on Josephine "Uh yeah, but I'm still a monster hunter. Gus, Koren get on."

Gus and Koren got on and Koren asked "Oton who's this stranger."

Before Oton could answer, the stranger said "My names Okami and I'm a monster rider/hunter." Okami pulled out a steel blue oval shaped stone with four dragon heads surrounding the middle from his bag and said with a look of glee "Hey Oton, do you want a kinship stone?"

"Put the N with the o. No."

"What! But why not, I mean its got more pluses than minuses."

"I'm married."

"Oton I'm so happy for… Wait what does that have to do with anything?" Okami asked incrediously.

"It means that my wife might not be to accepting, if I got another woman" Oton said as he did air quotes.

"Huh… want me to talk to her?"

"Not a good idea."

While they waited for their to meal to cook Oton explained to Okami about where he and the others were, and what was going on with the world. "So let me get this straight, you four plus your prowler forms went to the past of Midguard. Thus starting the whole world transformation sooner than when it was supposed to happen, and you four can become Elder Dragons… Well that explains why Josephine submits so easily to you, but yet not. I mean you are a Shah Dalamadur which is the worlds largest Elder Dragon so it makes since, but yet not."

Oton grabbed dinner and started passing it out, "well so sorry Okami that's the best I can do in explaining. it's up to you to believe it or not."

"No I believe it, I mean that would explain a few things about whats been going on."

"Oh, you mean all the craziness?" Oton asked as he handed Okami two portions.

"That, and the fact that my village and Kamura Village have become one... which was an interesting experience." Handing one of the portions to a Nerscylla version of an Arachne next to him "Here you go Scylla."

R's eyes grew wide, as if seeing Scylla for the first time "Um w-w-who's she?"

Okami looked over at Scylla "Her? you've seen her."

"I have?"

"Oh wait, you fainted when you saw her as a Nerscylla."

"Wait s-s-shes a monster?"

Oton looked at the newbies "Yes, but when the bond between a rider and his mount or mounts becomes strong enough, they become humanoid. In it's own way it's marriage."

Okami stopped eating "Wait, it is?"

Oton smacked his face "I got this information secondhand from Neo who wasn't originally a rider that you gave a kinship stone to, so how did you not know that Okami?"

"Hey no one told me that, and I never needed a stone" Okami said pointing toward the rider symbol in his right eye.

"Right, one of your ancestors was crazy enough to carve up a kinship stone and put it into his right eye socket to replace his eye. Which then bonded with him thus the power of the kinship stone became part of his DNA."

"That and after he did that he became an apex human." Okami continued moving his finger down to several red vein like things on his neck.

"But still, you didn't think anything was strange?"

"No, besides the fact that they become clingy when their in heat."

Oton smacked his face again "Why me?"

Gus realized something "So that's why you didn't want a stone."

"Right you are, Gus."

Oton was about to take a bite when he started vibrating, upon seeing this Okami asked "Whats wrong with you? Cold or something?"

Oton reached into his pouch and pulled out a phone, "No it's this." He opened the phone and heard "This is big Papa, come in Dopamine-man!"

Okami looked in amazement at the small device, "What is that!"

Oton covered the device "I'll tell you later. Stewart you realize that Dopamine is a hormone, right?"

"A hormone… you sure?"

"Yes."

"I always thought it was a drug, or something."

"No, it's a hormone."

"Well I'll be, so you do learn something new every day… so why'd you call?"

"I called? Your the one that called."

"I did? 'snap' Ah so I did."

"So why'd you call?"

"Grimlock called in."

"And?"

"Said he found Kamura/Hakum Village."

"Okami already told me about that."

"Okami's there? Neat, oh yeah Claire wanted to know when you'd be back."

"Uh, about a week or two."

"What ya doing, throwing a boot-camp?"

"These newbies need it."

"Oh okay. Claire, Oton said he needs some spa..."

Oton looked down at his phone "Look at that, it died."

Oton turned to Okami to answer his questions, and saw him holding the kinship stone again "Are you sure you don't want this?"

"No I don't want it." Oton answered with a glare letting his Dalamadure eyes show.
