Hours Later

In the morning

Brooke awoke slowly. Remembering right away she wasn't at home.

She missed her house. Her bed. Feeling safe. But returning back to normal felt impossible at this point.

Lying next to her in the large hospital bed was Lucas. His body and arms shielding her.

Feeling Brooke moving beside him. Lucas opened his eyes. He hadn't slept since he arrived last night.

When he had entered her hospital room. He placed his suitcases on the chair near the bed.

The climbed into bed with her. He just laid her watching her sleep.

By now Peyton was arrested and probably at the police station.

He wanted to make sure Brooke heard this news from him.

"I know we didn't leave things in the best place. But you didn't have to come over so early. Visiting hours haven't started yet. I doubt the cafeteria is open. And from the looks of it."

"You haven't slept. I'll be getting out of here in a few days."

"What can't wait until then.?" Brooke asked.

Lucas sat up and looked her in the eyes.

"Peyton did this. She was reason you were attacked again."

"She hates you. I don't know for how long. But you're friendship has been a lie for a long time now."

"I'm really sorry Brooke."

"I didn't want you to be alone. Or find out from the news that she was arrested."

"I called it in. Once i got proof i knew i couldn't be with her anymore."

"More importantly. I knew you wouldn't be safe."

"She does not want to share me." Lucas explained.

Brooke swallowed hard. Her eyes wide. Mind unable to let this sink in.

"Then why are you here! She's going to go after you too!"

"This isn't you're problem." Brooke proclaimed.

"You became her target because of me. I'm not going to abandon you. I want you to move in with me."

"My place is bigger and i can have a top rated security system up in a matter of days. Police officers guarding the house."

"You shouldn't have to live in fear." Lucas replied.

"And you shouldn't stop you're life for me." Brooke stated matter of fact.

"You are my life. The only thing that matters." Lucas replied.

Brooke looked away. Not sure to believe what he was saying.

"Let me rescue you this time. I've wasted time."

"I would appreciate you instead of taking you for granted all these years."

"I love you too Brooke. I'm in love you too." Lucas proclaimed.

Brooke was stunned. The expression on her face softened.

"I'm scared. To give you my heart. I don't want any regrets."

"Or for either of us to think of this as a mistake."

"I just want to stop before what we have gets ruined." Brooke confessed.

Brooke had waited and dreamed of this moment for years. But she didn't want and refused to be his rebound.

...

"I'm owed a phone call!" Peyton yelled. In the holding cell she was being kept in.

Down at the police station.

"Dad. Lucas left me. He's choosing to believe all these lies. I need you!" Peyton pleaded as she clung to the police station phone.
