Hinata sat back on the couch with a sigh. With how big she was, she was struggling to just get up and sit down. Sasuke kept her off her feet when he could. He plopped down beside her with a drink for her in hand and started flipping through to find their nightly movie.
"Is she kicking again?" He asked. He was never interested in feeling. He made a face when you could see it bump through her shirt.
"No, but she is sitting on my bladder." She mumbled.
Sasuke cracked a smile, and his phone buzzed. He glanced down at it, and his smile dropped. "Your cousin got my number and has been asking for you for three days." He grumbled at the notification.
Hinata leaned over to look at the 'I know this number is yours, Sasuke. Stop ignoring me. Tell her to unblock me, or I will show up at your apartment.'
"I think he probably tried to catch you at work, but you had already gone on leave. He's been at it all day." Sasuke explained. He scrolled back, showing a text asking why she wasn't at work.
Hinata sighed. "I'll unblock him and see what he wants."
"You don't have to." He reminded her.
"No, but if he's pushing this hard, it might be important." Hinata turned on her own phone screen. She rested her wrist on the round of her stomach. It was quite a nice shelf.
"Or your father is pressuring him." He added.
"That well could be the case too." She mumbled. "But he's going to be a lot harder to get rid of if he shows up."
She scrolled and unblocked his number from the list and sent him a message that essentially said 'Stop harassing Sasuke' in a polite tone.
'How are you?' Was the first text.
'I'm fine. What is so important?' She replied.
'Where are you having the baby?' He asked.
She frowned. This hurt her heart. 'I am not telling you that.'
'Why not?' He asked.
"Don't tell them when either. They have enough manpower to keep an eye on every hospital." Sasuke added. She realized he was watching the conversation.
'Because I don't want any unwanted guests.' Hinata replied.
'You should have your family there.' Neji pressed.
'I SHOULD have the father there, and that's not happening either.' Hinata regretted that one a little after she sent it.
Sasuke snorted.
"He's not saying it, but I can guarantee father wants to be there to save face." She sighed. "If he finds out how I am having the baby, he's going to do everything in his power to stop it."
"Can he do that?" He wondered.
Hinata frowned, giving him a side glance. "He would."
Sasuke sighed. "Families should just hate each other three times a year for major holidays."
She smiled. "Mine is a little more complicated than that."
Hinata woke up in the dead of night with a tight pain. It went away just as quickly.
That was it. She was sure of it.
Hinata sat up and reached for her clothes. She stood up and waddled her way over to Sasuke's door and knocked. He answered shirtless, messy-haired, and barely awake.
"I'm in labor." She told him in a quiet voice.
Sasuke was much more awake now. "I'll get your bag. Are you okay?"
"My water hasn't broken yet, just having contractions." She assured us another one hit her. She leaned over a little to take it, and when she looked back up, he looked panicked. "Just get ready. They aren't that close together yet."
Sasuke rushed around her, getting dressed, grabbing their bags, helping her into the car, back out of the car, and into the hospital. His abnormally frantic behavior amused her, which was a nice break from the stress. However, that changed when the nurse got snippy.
"Are you the father?" The nurse asked Sasuke.
"No, but I'm the one who's with her. What do you need?" He asked, holding his hand out for what he assumed were papers they needed to fill out.
She snapped them back into her chest. "Where's the father."
"Father's not going to be here." Sasuke clarified. "I'll be the one who's here for her."
"We should call the father to be here." The nurse frowned at him.
"Do NOT call the father." Hinata barked from behind him.
The nurse looked at her, unfazed by Hinata's tone. "You really should have both parents here for the birth." The nurse sounded like she was talking to a child.
"No, do not call the father." She repeated harshly.
"The father should be notified in case of complications." The nurse told her with a pointed look.
"The father is not in the picture. If anything happens, I know what she wants." Sasuke tried to step in.
The nurse put on a sour face and handed him the papers, and left.
Hinata huffed. "If she says my family needs to be here next, request a different nurse." She grumbled at him. "Or tell them he's dead."
Sasuke glared at the door. "Not sure if it's the end of her shift or if she's just a bitch."
"It is just as likely she's been burned by a situation where a new boyfriend doesn't want the baby's father called. Or maybe it's personal." She winced as another contraction hit her. "I don't really care, don't let her hold my baby." She added.
"Ms. Hyuga?" A doctor peaked their head in. "We are ready for your surgery."
Sasuke held out his hand to her, and she squeezed it tight, and she puffed and took a breath. "I'm ready."
Within minutes, he was holding an infant with a tuft of wild dark hair and Hyuga eyes with a blue hue. The doctor handed her off to him as soon as they were done cleaning her up, telling him that birth went smoothly, but Hinata wasn't quite awake yet.
She was tiny, big for a newborn, but tiny. Sasuke instinctively rocked her, an instinct he didn't know he had.
Once Hinata woke up, he passed the baby to her, and she held the baby tight to her chest and cooed at her. Silent tears ran down her face as she pushed the pink blanket away from the tiny sleeping face.
He leaned on her bed with his elbows. "She was so quiet. I was expecting more screaming."
"She'll grow into her voice, I'm sure." Hinata hummed. She had looked better, but for some reason, he found the tired, post-birth mess she was currently cute. "Or maybe she never will, like me."
"Did you decide on a name? Something flowers?" He asked, rubbing a single finger of the tiny hand clench by Hinata's collar bone. "Ayame, Ume?"
"Not sure if 'good news' or 'faithful' is a good idea." Sasuke realized the implication.
"Maybe if you want to be ironic." She giggled a little.
"No..." She told him.
"English then? Lily." He suggested.
"You really like flower names." Hinata giggled.
"I thought you were going with flowers?" He wondered.
"No, if you remember, you suggested flowers." She reminded him.
"Alright." Sasuke shrugged. "What do you want to name her?"
"..hmm," She thought. "I like Mikoto."
"That my mother's name." He reminded her.
"I don't think she would be offended." Hinata pouted.
"No, but it doesn't help the whole 'cheated on husband with best friend' view if she is named after my mother." He explained.
She sighed. "I guess."
"Miki?" He offered.
"We are back to flowers." She giggled.
"It's the stem." He defended.
"Hmm… how many people do you think to know your mother's name?" She asked.
He shrugged. "Don't really talk about my parents' names."
"How about Mikoto, but we call her Miki?" Hinata hummed, tilting her head at the sleeping infant. Then looking at him with a pleading look.
He let out a chuckle. "I'm not going to stop you."
She smiled back into the buddle and whispered. "What do you think?"
Sasuke smiled at the gentle tone. "Mikoto Hyuuga..." He nodded. "I'll go get the paperwork."
