Season one Episode Three Part One
Philadelphia , PA
"Why are we going this way?" Cassandra asked from her seat in the back of the truck. "Philly's a dead zone"
"Hopefully we can scavenge something without going to deep into the city" Garnett replied "If we find a working radio, we can try contact that Z guy again"
"Philadelphia" Murphy said with his head out the window "Ah the city of brotherly love"
Ellie didn't lift her head up from the back seat where she was resting it between Cassandra and Murphy but she could still hear the growling zombies outside as the car passed. It had been a few hours since the incident in Jersey Devil refinery and Ellie had managed to get about an hour sleep before her sore throat and parched mouth had woken her from her slumber, her headache had also not gone away which in all had left her in rather a bad mood, she was feeling sorry for herself.
"Is that what I think it it?" Ellie could hear Warren ask from the front seat
"No way" Garnett said. Her interest peaked Ellie opened her eyes, squinting at the bright light that had invaded her senses. Feeling the car stop she saw Garnett opening the door and climbing out of his seat.
"Wow" she heard Mack say. 'Is that really the liberty bell?' Hearing this Ellie sat up straighter looking towards the direction the rest were looking at and sure enough on the back of a truck was the Liberty Bell.
"Proclaim liberty throughout all the land and unto all the inhabitants thereof" Garnett read as he got closer to the bell "Yeah that's it"
"Three years of zombie apocalypse, you think you've seen everything" Doc said also out of the truck going closer to the bell
"Well when everything went bad, they probably tried to save a little history" Warren informed them also getting closer to the bell.
"Yeah well they should've known the only thing you can save his yourself" Murphy piped up from the window "Let's go!"
"You know I hate to be a spoil sport but Murphy's right" Ellie said as she leaned over Murphy to look through the window "But we got more important things to worry about so unless that thing's got gas… then lets go" she grumbled
"You read my mind Ellie' Warren said as she put a tube in the fuel tank 'If this thing still has fuel, and it does… If we can get this thing started, they wont have to ride out in the open like that' She said to Garnett gesturing to the ones sitting in the bed of the truck
'Well I'm all for that'. Doc said
'I'll get the jumper cables" Mack said going to the back of the bed of the truck
"God bless the human race" Doc said looking back at the liberty Bell "99% of them dead. But there's still one jackass alive with a spray can"
Warren collected her hose from the fuel tank and went to the drivers side to open the door but as she opened the door a zombie lunged at her as she jumped back and the zombie was killed in an instance.
"One Thousand seventy- five" Ellie heard the kid say who she recently just learned called himself Ten thousand. Warren looked towards the kid giving him a salute in thanks before shutting the door and climbing into the truck while Doc got into the Pick up truck and started it up, driving closer the other truck so they could connect the jumper cables.
Mack connected the jumper cables to both trucks before saying "Ok give it a shot" to Warren who turned the key and the vehicle roared to life.
"All right, that's it. Let's go Murphy. You get in here with Warren, Ellie and Me" Garnett said "Everybody else, follow in the pickup, stay close" He said as he shut the bonnet lid and got in the passenger seat as Ellie climbed out of the pickup truck before getting in the truck with Murphy. As they were driving down the road they all heard a thud which shook the truck as Warren drove over some zombies.
"You know you could try to miss some of them instead" Garnett said to Warren
"Where would be the fun in that" Ellie said sarcastically and at the same time Warren said "Why? One less zombie to kill"
"Leave some for Psycho- boy two thousand". Murphy said from beside Ellie
"Ten thousand" All three of them said at the same time
"Ten thousand?" Murphy said "It's good to know kids today still have some goals". He said before taking out some water and taking a big gulp.
"Hey take it easy there" Garnett said to him holding up his hand "That's the last of your water"
"Actually it's the last of her water" Murphy said pointing at Warren "Mine's right here" he said picking up a bottle of water of the seat next to Ellie
"Give me that" Warren said angrily snatching the nearly empty bottle from his hands. "Just because we got to get you to California alive doesn't mean I can't kick your ass between here and there"
Murphy shook his head before leaning back in his seat but Ellie could see him looking at her from the corner of her eye. "Don't even think about it Murphy" she warned him "In case your small little mind has failed to realise but in order to get you to California alive then we need to be alive and drinking everyone's water is not a good way to go. So hands off" she finished pinning him with a fierce glare which made Murphy shrink into his side of the door his gaze going anywhere but hers.
"Someone woke up on the wrong side of the apocalypse" he grumbled
"How about you get knocked on the head, kicked in the rib and strangled then see how you fe-"
"Look out" Garnett suddenly shouted making everyone's gaze go towards the wind shield.
As they looked out they could see another car headed straight for their direction a zombie through the wind shield. Warren quickly swerved to avoid the oncoming car but due to the weight of the liberty bell and the momentum of the vehicle the cables that were holding the bell in place snapped and the bell went rolling of the vehicle into the path of several zombies taking them out leaving only their feet behind. As Warren pulled the vehicle to a stop her, Garnett, Ellie and Murphy got out of the vehicle as Doc pulled the pick up truck to a stop next to them.
"Yeah! I'd pay money to see that again" Doc said, looking over at them Ellie could see them all smiling at the bell that was still rolling down the hill and Ellie let out a small chuckle too.
"The axle's broke" Warren informed them, looking over the vehicle
"All right everybody get into that truck" Garnett said, so they all made their way back to the original vehicle
'C'mon Murphy" Ellie said to him as she walked past, he looked rather annoyed that they had to go back in the pick up truck.
"I'm driving" Warren said to Doc as she got to the window. Ellie got into the bed of the truck with 10k, Addy and Mack while Doc, Murphy and Cassandra were in the back with Warren driving and Garnett in the passenger seat. They drove for a few more blocks through the city before Warren pulled to a stop for everyone to take a break, she then handed everyone a Twinkie each.
"Enjoy that's the last of the food" Warren said. Sitting next to Murphy Ellie saw that he had already finished his Twinkie and was now licking the wrapper.
"God, I'm so hungry my big guts are eating my little guts" He said throwing his wrapper away before turning towards 10k who was sat next to him and like Ellie he was eating his Twinkie slow and savouring the taste.
"You gonna eat all that?" Murphy said holding his hand out to 10k Twinkie like he was just going to snatch it out of his hand but before he could do that 10k shoved the whole thing in his mouth.
"Selfish little bastard" Murphy said a sulky look on his face before he turned towards Ellie who had a smirk on her face.
"Oh no" Ellie said when she saw Murphy looking at her a smile still on her face "We are all hungry Murphy and we all need to eat, I don't care if you have magic blood or whatever but your not having my Twinkie". Once Murphy realised that he wasn't getting any more food he stood up moving away from them mumbling under his breath. When he was gone Ellie looked over to 10k a big smirk on her face to see that 10k also had a smile on his face, before they both started laughing.
"We need to split up and look for food and water" Garnett informed them as they all knew their supply was dangerously depleted
"Oh, if we can find a two way radio or even like a Satellite dish, I can try and contact that Citizen Z guy" Addy said
"That's good" Garnett said to her "Okay, you and Mack do that. And the rest of us will look for food, Doc you take Cassandra, 10k and Ellie. Warren and I will take Murphy, stay close, meet back here in one hour. All right lets go"

Once they had split up Ellie found herself walking down an alleyway with Doc and Cassandra walking behind her and 10k following up the rear. After searching a few buildings they came up empty handed until they came to one building that didn't look like anyone else had been in for a while. The windows were boarded up and the door locked.
"Should we break it down?" Cassandra asked as she tried the door handle
"No" Ellie said shaking her head "Make to much noise, besides I got a better idea" she said as she pulled a hair clip out of her braided hair. Pulling it apart so it was a long wire she stepped up to the door. "Keep watch" She said to the others
Getting eye level to the lock on the door Ellie took out her knife before she put both the knife and the clip in the lock and after a few seconds she heard a click. Smiling to herself Ellie took the knife and clip out of the lock and put them away before turning to the others.
"Damn Ellie, where'd you learn to do that?" Doc asked her sounding impressed
"My dad" She said fondly
"Your dad taught you how to pick locks?" Cassandra said a shocked look going across her face
"Well my dad was a Major in the army and was very paranoid so he taught me a lot, including how to lock pick my way out of handcuffs and a locked door, I thought it was stupid but I'm glad I paid attention now"
"Do you know if your dads still alive" 10k asked her quietly
"No but I hope,not that I'm ever gonna see them ever again" she said sadly
"Maybe the apocalypse isn't so bad in the UK?" Cassandra said to her
"Maybe, but i doubt it… We ready?" she asked them desperate to change the subject to which they all nodded and raised their weapons. Ellie opened the door going in first gun raised, followed by the rest, once they had checked the house was empty of z's they started the search for food, Ellie and Cassandra looked in the kitchen, 10k had the bedrooms and Doc had the bathroom. While in the kitchen Ellie found a few tines of beans, fruit salads and soup. She also found half a pack of crackers and some chocolate spread which she shoved in her bag. Looking towards Cassandra she saw that she had found a box of stale cereal, a few bags of crisps and two packs of biscuits. 10K had come out of the bedroom with some duck tape and some tools.
"I found some painkillers and a first aid kit" Doc said coming out of the bathroom.
"Ok, well lets go see if we can find anything else in a few more houses then head back to the others" Ellie said to them before going to the front door and walking out the others following. As they were walking down a different alleyway they came across a Satellite dish above a dumpster, Doc climbed up while 10k, Cassandra and Ellie kept watch.
"Hey, kid. Give me a hand with this, will ya" Doc said to 10K who climbed up on the dumpster to help.
"I don't know why we stopped here in philly" Cassandra said sounding annoyed 'We should've kept going'
"Going where?" Doc said to her as he and 10k where fiddling with the Satellite dish "We need to find a way to communicate with that citizen dude. And I think Addy can do something with this dish, who knows , maybe we''ll get lucky and pick up porn".
"Never seen porn" 10k said to him
"You've never seen porn?" Doc said shocked
"Really? Never?" Cassandra asked him and at the same time Ellie said 'Your not missing much'.
"Before my time" 10k said wondering why it was such a big deal. "Is it good"
"Yeah"
"Meh"
"Not really" they all said at the same time before they just looked at each other for a few seconds then went back to work.
"What you've got against Philly anyway?" Ellie asked her while they were keeping watch. "You've been miserable since we got here"
"I just don't like Philly"
"Hang on" Ellie said realising why she didn't want to be here and walking closer to her she asked in a hushed voice "You said this is where you spent Black summer so does that mean the family is here? Is this where you were living?". Looking towards Cassandra Ellie saw she had a look of fear on her face but didn't get a response. "Cassandra what are they willing to do to get you back? Are we in danger?"
"Yes" she said quietly
"Seriously?!" Ellie said angrily "You've know since we got here and for all we know they've already seen us, when we get back to Warren I'm telling her everything I know and your going to tell her the rest, you hear me?"
"Fine" Cassandra said begrudgingly before she turned to look behind her, letting out a small gasp.
Hearing her gasp Ellie looked in the same direction and saw four men with guns walking towards them. Looking back towards Cassandra she saw her eyes widening in fear, she was slowly backing up looking back towards the men and back to Ellie, Doc and 10k.
"Cassandra wait" Ellie said to her seeing she was about to run.
But it did no good as Cassandra glanced at the men again before she took of down the next ally the men following quickly behind. Looking back towards Doc and 10k, Ellie noticed that they were oblivious to what had just happened seeing no other option she growled under her breath before going after Cassandra.
Once she had caught up to the men she noticed that only two of them were running after Cassandra who was running like her life depended on it a few paces in front of them which it probably did, so Ellie sped up to get closer to them but also making sure to not get caught. After a few minutes of running Ellie saw Cassandra take a left the men following and once she reached the turning a few seconds after them she saw that they had stopped due to a few zombies feasting on some poor soul in the middle of the path.
"Sunshine" They shouted which attracted the zombies to them, Ellie hid closer to the wall so they didn't see her as the man started firing on the zombies which gave Cassandra the opportunity to run around the dumpster to get away. Sighing in relief Ellie focused back on the men who had just finished killing the last zombie and when she got a closer look she recognized the man with the ponytail it was the same guy who was with Travis on the motorbikes.
"Let's go find Tobias" one of them said to the other before they took off in the opposite direction, Once they were far enough away Ellie came out of behind a few trash cans which she hid when she saw them coming her way before she quietly followed them down the alley way.
The two men had led her up too a bridge where she could see another man waiting near the middle of the bridge looking over the city through his binoculars. Hiding behind a nearby car Ellie could hear them talking.
"Where's my sunshine?" The man asked them which Ellie guessed was Tobias
"Bitch gave me the slip" the man with a ponytail said, to which Tobias hit him across the face knocking him to the ground.
"That's your sister you're talking about, We'll find her soon enough" Lifting his binoculars up again he looked down at the road "Meanwhile another opportunity has presented itself".
Frowning in confusion Ellie carefully lifted herself up so she could look over the bridge without being seen. And what she saw made her eyes widen a small gasp escaping her before she could stop it, but luckily enough the men hadn't seem to have heard her. Down on the street was a police car and in that police car was Addy and it looks like she was their next target.
"Over my dead body" Ellie mumbled quietly to herself before she turned and crept her way off the bridge and away from the men towards Addy, hiding behind cars as she went. Once she was off the bridge she legged it to the police car, when she got there she ran to the driver door and banged on the window before opening the door.
"Jesus Ellie you scared me" Addy chuckled hand to her chest before she went serious again when she saw the look of pure panic on her friends face. "What's wrong?" She asked her
"I don't have time to explain, but we need to get out of here" Ellie said in a hurry urging Addy out of the car with her hand.
"What?, why?" Addy asked, "I've just got through to citiz-"
"Addy seriously" Ellie interrupted her "We don't have time, some very bad people are coming, so please lets go. You need to trust me" she said to her staring intently at her
"Ok" Addy agreed seeing how scared she was "Lets go" Addy grabbed her Wacker and started to get out of the car so Ellie stepped back to give her room and turned to look towards the bridge before a searing pain went across her face and she went flying to the floor a gasp of pain leaving her mouth.
"ELLIE" she heard Addy shout. Looking up Ellie saw the guy with the ponytail standing above her gun in hand which would explain the pain, he had hit her with his gun she thought holding her cheek.
Seeing the man coming towards her Ellie's eyes widen before she lifted her legs back and kicked him catching him in the stomach winding him, she then swiped at his feet making him lose balance and fall to the floor gun flying out of his hands. Taking her gun out Ellie aimed it at the guy on the floor"Get up and get over there" she said to him gesturing with the gun for him to move away from the car and as she did this she kicked the gun under the car and away from the guy. She then looked towards the over guy going towards Addy.
"HEY" she shouted to him making him look to her and his eyes widen seeing his friend unarmed and both of them being held at gunpoint 'Get away from her' both men raised their hands "Back away, I wont ask you again" she said a dangerous edge to her voice, her face hurt and they were both being threatened so lets just say she was not a happy bunny. "Addy come to me" she said to her glancing in her direction as she walked closer to her and the men backed away, but what confused her was that
Addy's eyes widen and she wasn't looking at her she was looking behind her.
"Hand it over" A voice said from behind her and Ellie could feel the cool barrel of a gun at the back of her head. While she was so focused on Addy she left herself wide open for a sneak attack.
Closing her eyes and taking a deep breath, Ellie opened them again before she held the gun out next to her for the guy to take.
"We dont want any trouble, you let us go and we don't need to hear anymore of this" She said to the man as she saw the pony tail guy lean down by the car to retrieve his gun. "We will leave and we'll never come back"
"Im afraid we can't do that" The man behind said to her "you got something we want back and we were just gonna take the pretty red head over there but you'll make a nice bonus. Grab her boys".
"No!" Ellie shouted going to run towards Addy when she saw the men going towards her when Ellie felt a shooting pain go across her skull as the guy hit her with the gun making her cry out and fall to her knees as her legs gave way.
"ELLIE" She heard Addy shout and then she heard the sound of the taser quickly followed by Addy's gasps.
Ellie tried to get up but has she did she stumbled back down her head fuzzy and everything sounded out of focus, her limbs not cooperating. All she could make out was the outline of Addy being dragged out of the car. Trying to get back up again Ellie felt the guy who was behind her pick her up by the arms and someone had grabbed her feet, lashing out Ellie tried to get one decent hit in to maybe distract them long enough for the others to find them. Hearing the man grunt she knew she got a hit in but it wasn't enough, Ellie could feel the edges of her vision fading the world going dark, and before she knew it she knew no more her head lulling backwards resting on the man's shoulder as they carried her and Addy away.
Addy's Pov
When Addy awoke she felt drowsy and her sight was blocked by a bag that was over her head a gag in her mouth, screaming in terror she could feel that she was tied down to a chair. When the bag was taken off her head her eyes came into focus and she could see she was sat at a fancy table with a man with a goatee and a woman who looked like her mind wasn't there sat in front of her. Looking to her left she saw Ellie sat next to her also tied to a chair but she didn't have a bag on her head, she was unconscious and there was a older man in front on her stitching up a cut on her cheek. Hearing the guy with a goatee talking Addy turned her gaze to him.
"It's ok your safe now" he said to her. "You're safe. No one's going to harm you" He said to her as a man behind her took the gag out of her mouth and then brushed his hand over her face.
"Touch me and Ill kill you" Addy threatened the man flinching away to look at him. Before turning back to the man with a goatee who let out a chuckle
"Sweet child that wont be necessary" He said to her "Please, the last thing we want is to harm you"
"What about my friend?" Addy asked him jerking her head in Ellie's direction
"She was being rather uncooperative" the man said like it wasn't a big deal. "There were zombies coming and for both of your safety we had to get you out of there and that was the easiest way. Don't worry she'll be fine, probably just wake up with a headache"
"Speak for yourself" A voice said groggily. Looking to her left Addy could see Ellie was awake and her face was scrunching up in pain as she tried to move away from the man in front of her.
"Are you ok?" Addy asked relieved she was awake.
"Ive been better" Ellie said to Addy "Not enjoying how many times I've been knocked around the head though" she said sending a small smile her way probably trying to calm her all ready raising heart, by making jokes and Addy returned the smile before looking back at the man with a goatee.
"I'm sorry you got hurt" Tobias said to Ellie. "But we needed to get you out of there and now your awake our doctor can take a look at you" he said gesturing to a man who was standing in the corner of the room.
"I don't need your help" Ellie said as the Doctor came towards her but she was ignored, the man with a beard kneeled in front of her before taking out a penlight and shining it in her eyes and asking her to follow his finger. Seemingly satisfied the man put the light away before standing up and going behind Ellie and she could feel his fingers pushing against her head probably looking for bruising and then the man pressed against a particular sore spot making Ellie hiss out in pain and she flinched away from his fingers.
The man sighed before saying "No sign of concussion just got some bruising".
"Thank you, Doctor" Tobias said as the Doctor left the tent, he then focused his gaze back on Addy and Ellie
"Our friends are looking for us, and when they find us, they will kill you. They will kill all of YOU" Addy said shouting the last word out struggling in her restraints.
"I get it you don't trust me. Why should you? I know you're not ready to here this, but I'm going to say this anyway. I'm sorry" the man said not fazed by Addy's attitude. Ellie looked around to see if she could find a weapon or something once she realised that both of them had been stripped of them and she saw them thrown in the corner of the room.
"Who are you?" Addy asked him "What do you want with us?"
"Fair questions" The man said getting up from his seat
"You're Tobias" Ellie said surprising them all and "Aren't you?" She asked the man with the Goatee ignoring the look of confusion Addy was giving her.
"You've been speaking to my sunshine" the man said getting over his shock, "I'm sure she told you about how I'm a bad man and forced her to do things against her will?" He said to Ellie
"She told me enough, she had to especially as I overheard a conversation between her and …Travis was it?" She said to him a smug smile on her face. "He tried to force Cassandra back but I wouldn't let him so he tried to take me too and I guess you know how that ended".
Looking back at the man, Addy could see that he had a angry look on his face and he was staring at Ellie so fiercely like he was trying to scare her into submission but Ellie wasn't backing down she was staring at him with a fierce look on her face too. Addy admired Ellie for that. The room was silent for a few moments and Addy thought the man was going to hurt Ellie but all of a sudden her just bursted out laughing before saying.
"I can see was Travis liked you" He said to Ellie pointing at her "And i can see why they say Welsh people have a fiery temperament, your a right little spitfire aren't you?"the man stared at Ellie for a few seconds before walking away from the table and towards a big organ and began playing some music.
Addy looked over at Ellie who still had a fierce look on her face but Addy could see that what he had said to her had scared her.
"I'd be angry too if I was brought here against my will. Please I don't want you to be afraid. I must apologise about my overzealous companions". Tobias said as the man behind her started to undo the ropes attaching her arms to the chair, the other man doing the same to Ellie. "They're good man, but sometimes we have to resort to less than civilized means. We live in a less than civilized world. You know it, I know it. So… when we encounter strangers the family need to take… necessary precautions"
"What family?" Addy asked Tobias
"Ours" the man said holding his arms out "This is our home. And I am responsible for their well-being. And as your friend said I'm Tobias Campbell. I guess you can say I'm like a father to our little family" Tobias said as he walked back to the table and sat on a chair closer to Ellie. "But, like a family we take care of each other. Everyone contributes. Everyone benefits. It's how we survived the last three years, It's the only way we'll survive in the future. Don't you agree?"
"We survived just fine before" Ellie spoke up when Addy said nothing.
"By risking your life going through houses for food, scavenging for gas?" Tobias said to her confirming that they had been watching them "Being here you will be much safer. Now please you must be hungry" Tobias said changing the topic "Please eat" he said gesturing to the plate of meat on the table "We have plenty to share".
"I'm not hungry" Addy said irritated
"We don't want your food, we want to be let go" Ellie said equally annoyed
"You will be" Tobias said ignoring Ellie "Until then, why don't you go with Moonshade and Stormy" he said gesturing to two woman who walked through the tent. The blonde woman was wearing a low cut top and short shorts, while the other one wore a peach blouse which was tied at the end but revealed her whole bra. "Ladies be so kind as to find some fresh clothes for our newest members"
'We didn't say anything about joining your… family' Addy said struggling out of the grasp of the men behind her who pulled her out of her chair.
"We're not staying here" Ellie piped up also trying to shake the arms of the guy off of her.
"Oh I'm sorry" Tobias said "I don't mean to be presumptuous. It's just once people see the love and bounty that we share they never want to leave us. Ladies?" He said as the two girls stepped up to Addy and Ellie and led them away.
Doc's Pov
"Wait, so this Rocky dude loses the fight?" 10K asked Doc as they were walking back to the truck Satellite in hand along with some water
"Yeah. Yeah, but see in losing, he wins. It's very Zen".
"I'd like to see Rocky fight a Z" 10k said "If he loses he gets eaten" Doc laughed at what he said before turning to Cassandra who had just ran up to them
"Hey, is everything ok?" Doc asked placing the satellite dish in the bed of the truck as they got to it
"Fine"
"Where's Ellie?" 10k asked looking around, Cassandra opened her mouth to answer but Murphy interrupted
"It's about time"
"What's wrong?" Doc asked them seeing them all standing there with serious looks on their faces, Warren and Mack hand resting on their guns. "Where's Addy and Ellie?"
"Missing" Mack said numbly
"Are they_" Doc asked
"No. Taken alive" Mack interrupted him. "By humans"
"What? Who?" Doc asked as Mack backed Cassandra into the truck next to Warren before lifting up an I pad
"We thought you might know" Warren said to her
"Me? Why would I know?" Cassandra said trying to act innocent as Mack leaned his face closer to her
"You recognize these guys?" Mack asked her showing her the video of them taking Addy
"No why would I?"
"Creep on the left was one of those two bikers back in Jersey. With you friend Travis" Warren said to her getting angry "And if you watch a little longer, you'll see two other guys go off with Ellie"
"I told you, that guy wasn't my friend" Cassandra exclaimed "And I don't know the_" But she was
interrupted as Mack grabbed her around her throat and put a gun to her head.
"You are gonna start telling the truth right now or I am gonna start blowing holes-"
"Mack" Garnett interrupted him putting his hand on his shoulder
"Until you do" Mack finished trying to shake Garnett off. "Do you understand me" he said fiercely
"Mack" Garnett said gently trying to calm him down as he put his hands on his face pulling him to face him "Put the gun away. Put the gun away". He said pushing him softly away from Cassandra before turning to her "You're gonna tell us everything you know about these guys, right now" He said to him hands on her shoulders.
"Or I'll shoot you" Warren said anger evident in her voice and face as she held up her gun to Cassandra's head.
Looking between Garnett and Warren, Cassandra said "I can't go back" fearfully trying to push Garnett out of the way.
But Mack got to her first holding her head in his hands her shouted "Where? Where? Where is she?! Where is she?!" But before Cassandra could even attempt to say anything they heard snarling behind them, Mack's shouting had attracted a z.
