Season One Episode Four Part One
Pennsylvania – Amish Country
Ellie's Pov
We didn't stop driving till we we're miles away from the psychotic family in Philadelphia even though they were probably dead or zombies everyone wanted to put what happened in that city behind them. Then they had only stopped because Murphy had kept complaining about wanting to go to the bathroom so Warren pulled over. So now everyone was either waiting their turn to look for somewhere to relieve themselves or were stretching their legs. Except for 10k and Ellie who were sat in the bed of the truck keeping watch and a few feet ahead of them they could see two Amish zombies wearing an old black and white suit with a hat on. Ellie saw 10k pick up his slingshot aiming at one of the zombies and she did the same only she used her knife, throwing her knife the same time 10k let go of the string they both hit the target and the z's fell down dead.
"Nice shot 10k" Ellie said to him smiling, she held her hand up to give him a high five but he seemed hesitate at first but then gave Ellie a high five a shy smile on his face.
"You to" he mumbled
"Amish zombies... Really? Really?" Ellie heard Addy say as she climbed out of the truck to retrieve her knife which was in-bedded in the zombies head. They were both in a better mood and relieved to be out off those revealing clothing. They had managed to find a shop with some clothes in and now Addy was wearing Jeans, a black tank top and a cameo Jacket with spikes on the shoulders. While Ellie was wearing red tank top with black jeans and a black leather jacket with black boots. She also had a few extra weapons that she found when she went back for their weapons including a shotgun which was hanging around her shoulder as well as some more knifes and her hair was back in a fishtail braid while Addy's hair was down with a few braids going few it.
"They tried to quarantine themselves from the rest of society" Ellie heard Garnett say as she got back to the truck but she stayed by Addy instead of climbing back in. "Keep the Z's from spreading the infection"
"That was before we knew Romero had it right" Mack said from under the truck's hood where he was checking the engine "We were all carrying the virus. Didn't matter who you were or how you died"
"Night of the living Dead" Addy said "Great movie, sucky reality... You know what I don't get, if the Z's didn't spread the virus, how did we all get infected?"
"Best guess I heard, It was spread by birds" Garnett said "Some kind of parasite piggy backed on the bird flu, stays dormant 'till you die"
"You know" Murphy said interrupting them "Take it from somebody who knows first hand. Other than the fact that they find brains delicious, when it comes to zombies nobody knows nothin". Once he had finished talking he looked towards Warren who had come around the truck after finishing her business "My turn" Murphy said walking towards Addy who had a roll of toilet paper and held his hand out. Addy gave him two sheets of toilet paper. "Have we just met" He said looking at her like she was insane. "Thank you" he said as she gave him another sheet of paper and he turned and walked towards the fields away from the truck.
"Hey hurry up" Garnett said to him as he passed "I want to get past DC before dark". And Murphy just mumbled "Yeah, Yeah" before waving him off and he carrying on walking.
"I'm tellin' ya" Ellie heard Doc say as she walked back to the bed of the truck to climb in "There ain't nothing there. No thoughts, no memories" As she was about to climb in she saw 10k step up and lean over the truck offering Ellie his hand.
"Thanks" she said as she took his hand and with 10k's help she was pulled into the truck, she then sat herself in between Cassandra and 10k while turning her head to look at Doc who was still talking.
"No soul. Nothin"
"Well they're not dead" Cassandra countered "They want something"
"Yeah, Brains"
"You can't want something if you're not conscious, if you don't have a soul" She said taking a sip out of her canteen
"I suppose it's kinda like they've been rebooted but everything that made them human is gone" Ellie said "They have one basic need and that is the need to feed, all thoughts and feelings are gone. They got no memory of they're past lives they just see us as food. Kinda makes you want to feel sorry for them".
"Feel sorry?" Doc said "There zombies"
"But they weren't always zombies" Ellie countered "They were once someone's mum, dad, daughter, son, friends. They all had people that loved them and it's been taken away from them. Now all that's left is a vessel" she said while looking sadly ahead at some stray zombies in the distance
"When my pa was wounded" 10k said drawing their attention to him while he was playing with his knife 'He told me to tie him up before he turned. Made me promise to show him mercy when he died. Kill the brain, ya know? I couldn't do it. I couldn't hurt my pa, no matter what he'd become' Looking back at them 10k hesitated before continuing 'I stared into his eyes for the longest time, just looking for some sign he was still in there'
"Did you see anything?" Cassandra asked him softly and 10k just shook his head
"What did you do?" Doc asked him
"I killed it"
"Damn kid " Doc said in awe "You had to put down your own dad?"
"Didn't kill him" 10k snapped "killed it"
"But if it's not alive how did you kill it?" Cassandra asked
"Piked it" 10k said lifting the knife to point at the middle of his forehead "Right here. My first kill. I always wish he knew, you know, somehow knew that I kept my promise". None of them knew how to respond to that and they just stared at him sadly until he turned to look at the horizon.
"I'm sorry" Ellie said suddenly drawing his attention back to her. Ellie gave him a small smile before resting her hand on his and giving it a gentle squeeze. 10K didn't say anything back just looked back to the horizon but he didn't push her hand away and after a few seconds she felt him adjust their hands so that he was holding hers too and gave hers a gentle squeeze. Looking back at him from the corner of her eyes she saw that he wasn't looking at her so she didn't say anything as she didn't want to embarrass him, so she just looked the opposite way, a fond look on her face. She may have had know him long but Ellie was starting to see him as a little brother someone she wanted to protect and she would do what ever she had to, to protect him and the rest of their group because they were all like her family. After everyone was back in the truck they set of again.
"What happened to your wrist?" She heard 10k ask her and turning to look at him she saw him looking at their joined hands "Your jacket rose up with your bracelet when i pulled you up... you don't have to tell me if you don't want to" He added hastily when he saw the look on her face and his eyes flicked back and for. And looking away from 10k she could see that Cassandra and Doc were looking at her too and see knew that the others in the truck could probably hear too as the window was open and Warren and Garnett already knew this story so she might as well tell the others.
"No it's ok" She reassured 10k when he was starting to look nervous and looking down to her wrist again 10k awkwardly let go. "To be honest im not really sure" Ellie lifted up her wrist to she could move the bracelet and she smoothed her hand over the jagged scar on the inside of her wrist. "I thought maybe it was a birthmark, but then surely I would off asked my parents about it at some point. It looks like a scar but I can't remember how i got it"
"You don't remember doing it? Cassandra asked a look of confusion going across her face
"No" Ellie said shaking her head
"Maybe a dog bit you when you were younger or you had an accident when you were younger and you just don't remember?" 10k suggested
"If it was a traumatic memory you probably blocked it out" Doc said
"Maybe... but talking about blocking it out, when I first met Warren and Garnett I found out I lost a couple months of memory. I remember my friends when we first got here and then the start of the outbreak then nothing. The next thing I know i was waking up in an abandoned hospital and I haven't got a clue how i ended up there. So I think i must of got hurt and some point and that's where the scar came from but I don't know how i got hurt or why I don't remember"
"That's crazy!" Cassandra said "Is that why you hide it with the bracelet because you don't know what caused it and you don't want people to assume you have been bitten?"
"I guess subconsciously that's why i was doing it, because it does sort of look like a bite but it's not because I wouldn't be here would I? And I guess it just makes me feel more comfortable"
"You could be like Murphy" Doc joked and they all chuckled
"Yeah no" Ellie smiled "Murphy is one of a kind, and this happened over three years ago and I look nothing like Murphy"
"You probably cut yourself trying to get away from the z's" 10k said "And the memory loss could be from a bump on the head or the trauma, because if you were in the hospital it had to be sort of serious"
"Yeah maybe" Ellie agreed turning her head to look over the passing horizon deep in thought until a small orange car drove out behind them and started getting closer. She heard tapping behind her and turning her head she saw Doc knocking on the small window
"Humans! Six o'clock!" he informed them
"I see them" They all heard Warren shout back and they felt the truck speeding up.
"Is that more of your cannibal friends" Doc asked Cassandra
"No" She said shaking her head "Something else"
"Up ahead" Mack said also in the bed of the truck pointing to the front of the truck where their were a row of zombies. Standing up to get a closer look Ellie could see that some of the zombies had chains on them, which make Ellie think that there was more to this.
"Where's he going?" Ellie heard Doc ask and turning her head she saw 10k jumping out to the truck rifle in head before the truck even came to a halt. "Hey! Kid!" Doc shouted
Hearing the car doors open behind her Ellie looked back to the front of the truck and saw Warren, Garnett and Addy getting out of the truck, so Ellie and the rest did the same jumping out of the truck they walked close to the zombies. Warren got they're first and sliced a zombies head of his his body.
"Wait, Wait, wait, wait!" Cassandra shouted as she got closer "Something's wrong"
"Yeah, she's right'" Warren said pausing "Look at their feet" Looking down at their feet the group saw that their feet were changed. Looking closer at the zombies Ellie's eyes widen before stepping back and taking out her gun.
"Warren some of them are breathing" She shouted trying to warn them but she was to late. The orange car that had been following them had pulled up next to the truck the the 'Zombies' pulled out guns and aimed them at the group.
"Hold it right there" They man wearing a bandanna said as the rest of the group took out their guns but it was in vain as they were out numbered, more people got out of the orange car and they were also armed. "All right, now drop your weapons" the bandanna man spoke again, "or die right where you stand". They all hesitated looking at each other while they were weighing their options. Seemingly getting inpatient the man said again "Put down the weapons or eat brains" he threatened. But before they could do anything else they heard a gun shot sound out and one of the zombies dropped dead.
"God, I love that kid" Doc said smiling and Ellie couldn't help but smile a little bit too.
"Now we just want the vehicle" The man said only slightly bothered by the gunshot. Ellie saw Garnett lift up is arm, his hand in a fist and turn in the direction of where the shot came from and she knew he was telling 10k to stand down otherwise it could risk a shoot out, which probably wouldn't be good for any of them "All right" the man said "so give us the truck and we'll let you live to die another day"
"Give them the truck" Murphy shouted from where he was standing arms raised
"Don't give them a god damn thing!" Warren shouted back and the bandanna man just chuckled
"Do the Math Garnett" Murphy said "We have other priorities, Give them the damn truck"
"Listen to your friend there" The Bandanna man said "Nobody wants to die, But we're taking that truck"
'Say the word Garnett' Mack said
"I'd hate to say it Garnett" Ellie said "But Murphy's right if we start firing they are gonna do the same and most of us are probably gonna die, give them the truck we can find more transportation" Ellie saw Garnett look towards her contemplating what she said before tuning to look back at the men. The two groups had a bit a stare of before Garnett lowered his weapon.
"Let them have it" he said, then clarified "the truck" when he saw Warren getting ready to fire her weapon. "Let them have the truck" he said looking towards the rest of the group, gesturing for them to lower their weapons,
"Smart move" The bandanna man said "All right guys, Let's go!" he shouted to his friends as they all moved towards the truck. "And leave the junker, they're not gonna get very far".
"Murphy" Garnett shouted to him gesturing for him to come to them and away from the strangers. Once the men had got into the truck they drove away cheering and shouting leaving the rest of them with the beat up orange car. As Warren got to the passenger side door to open it, it fell of it's hinges and onto the floor.
"Beautiful" she said irritably as Mack came and picked up the door off the floor and threw it off the road angrily. Garnett, Murphy, Cassandra and Ellie squeezed into the car with Warren driving while Addy and Mack sat in the front where the bumper was meant to be and 10k and Doc where perched on the back of the car holding onto the roof. The car was very slow and it was incredibly uncomfortable being squished in-between Cassandra and Murphy but it was better than walking. They drove for a little while before they caught up to the truck and the people who stole it.
"Hey"
"Y'all see that" Ellie heard both Addy and Mack say at the same time when they got closer.
"That's them, alright" Garnett said
"Bastards" Warren said as she pulled the car to a stop and everyone piled out of the vehicle weapons at the ready "Looks like they're trying to rob some poor family this time"
"Not if I have anything to say about it". Garnett said. "Come on".
"Would it matter at all if I said don't do this?" Murphy said sticking his head out of the window as they walked towards the men and family.
Ellie being the closest to him turned her head to face him "Nope" she said with a smile on her face "Come on Murphy, don't you want the truck back instead of being squished in a small car. I know I do because no offence Murphy but you kinda smell" she said jokingly
"You don't smell so hot yourself sweetheart" Murphy countered snarkily before getting out of the vehicle and following them.
"Drop your weapons on the ground or the first shot takes your head off" Garnett said as he got closer to the Bandanna man gun pointed at his head.
"You heard the man. Drop your weapons" What Ellie assumed must be the father said
"Now" Garnett said angrily when they hesitated, the men looked at each other before the bandanna man gestured for them to put their guns down.
"Garnett wait, there were more men before" Ellie said stepping forward her gun still raised, she then looked at the father "What have they got behind their backs?" She asked him gesturing to the mother and children who had their hands behind there back.
The father pretended to look confused"'What? Nothing there just scared". But Ellie wasn't buying it "I don't believe you"
"Ellie" Garnett said to her grabbing her arm trying to pull her back.
"No Garnett" Ellie said pulling out of his grip and stepping a bit closer "Something's wr-" But Ellie didn't finish her sentence because as she looked to her right her eyes widened, on the grass were five men on their knees hands behind their back. "You got to be kidding me" she said stepping back which drew the attention of Garnett and the others and they looked in the direction she was looking.
"What's this?" Garnett said confused
"A robbery" The father said with his gun now pointed at them before he quickly turned back at the men and opened fire, the two kids and the mother also taking out their weapons they had concealed behind their backs and shot the men on the floor. Once they were all dead they turned their weapons back onto Ellie and the rest of the group. "Drop your weapons" He ordered "Now, I don't want to have to kill you". Seeing no other option they all dropped their weapons and held their hands in the air. The family then ran to the truck and got in, they started the engine and drove away leaving them with the orange car again.
"Seriously" Ellie said flabbergasted as she threw her hands into the air not believing what just happened. Looking around see saw that everyone else had similar looks on their faces and Warren screamed out in frustration.
"Never get out of the boat" Doc said as they got got back into the car only this time Doc and 10k were sat where the bumper was meant to be and Addy and Mack were leaning on the back of the car and they set back off down the road.
"Yo, can't this thing go any faster?" Murphy asked Garnett who was now driving. "I'm gonna die of old age before we get to California".
"You can always get out and push" Warren said
But Murphy just laughed "No, not me sister. I'm special"
"No Murphy, you're a pain in the arse" Ellie said smiling and Murphy just laughed sarcastically
"Talking to you makes we wonder about this while saving humanity thing" Warren said agreeing with Ellie
"Stop the car!" Doc shouted from the front of the car. "Oh it's the family" he said as the car pulled to a stop. Looking ahead of them they could see the family on the floor with zombies munching on their bodies.
"We got to get of this road" Garnett said
"Well to do that we need that truck" Ellie said sadly while looking at the family before grabbing her gun "let me out Warren"
Warren got out of her seat letting Ellie climb out of the vehicle. "Stay here" she said to them all wanting to do this herself. Going towards the closest two zombies, Ellie pulled out two knifes from the holders on her waist before throwing them at the zombies, they impaled their foreheads and both zombies dropped to the floor. Looking back up see saw another zombie running towards her and she quickly sidestepped out of his way letting him past before kicking him in the back making it fall to the floor, she then stood on his back keeping the snarling zombie down before grabbing it's head from behind being mindful of its teeth and snapped its neck and the zombie went limp. Ellie then walked over to the two children and taking another small knife out of her boot she stabbed the first zombie in the head and then wrenched it out before kicking it away and did the same to the other zombie. She then walked over to the zombies eating the parent's and stabbed them in the heads. Looking towards the children she could see that they hadn't turned yet, so lifting up her gun she aimed it at the girl before saying quietly "I give you mercy" as she shot the little girl in the head and then doing the same to the boy tears coming to her eyes she then turned to the parents and did the same.
"Let's hit the road" Ellie shouted to rest in the car not bothering to wipe away the tears before retrieving her two knifes, she then climbed into the back of the truck. She was soon joined by Addy who climbed in next to her, grabbing her hand and then Murphy with Garnett driving and Warren in the passenger seat, the rest of them in the bed of the truck.
Once the truck started moving Warren turned to look at Ellie a sad smile on her face "You ok sweetie?" she asked her, her hand reaching for the one Addy wasn't holding which Ellie gratefully took.
"I'm ok" she hiccuped smiling softly at her and Addy. "It just gets to me sometimes, they were just kids"
"It gets to all of us" Addy said
"You wouldn't be human if it didn't" Garnett said joining in on the conversation. "But you gave them peace".
"This just got really depressing" Murphy said "Can we talk about something else before I start crying" he said sarcastically rolling his eyes.
"Aww Murphy I didn't think you cared" Ellie said smiling slightly at him and Murphy just pulled a face before rolling his eyes again and turning to look out the window, which they all laughed at but Ellie could see a small smile on his face and she knew even if he wouldn't admit it he did care a little bit.
"Here" Warren said bringing Ellie's attention back to her, Warren was holding some tissue out for Ellie which she gratefully took with a thanks and Warren just smiled squeezing her hand again before letting go and turning to face the front she.
"And also Vernez remind me to never piss you off" Murphy said looking back to her as Ellie was wiping down her face and Ellie just smiled while Addy pulled her into a side hug, so she just rested her head on Addy's shoulder as she watched the scenery go by.
They drove down the open road for a little while before they got to a town. Garnett slowed down giving them the opportunity to look for any stores or something they could use to contact Citizen Z, none of them wanted to search the town on foot as they all know how that ended last time. They drove through the town slowly losing hope of finding anything before they heard Addy say to pull over by a fast food restaurant. Once they stopped Addy didn't waste any time before quickly climbing over Murphy to get out of the vehicle and running towards the drive through where there was an intercom and camera in a clown, the others followed closely after. Once she was there Addy pulled the clowns face off before starting to mess with the wires trying to get it to work. After a few hours of rigging the intercom and a few failed attempts Addy finally was able to get through. With 10k and standing on the hood of the car holding up a satellite.
"Try it now Garnett" Addy said
Garnett stepped forward before saying "This is Sergeant Charles Garnett calling Northern Light. Charles Garnett calling Northern Light. Come in Northern light." But all they heard was static. "Can you read me?" Garnett tried again "Citizen Z, are you there? Over"
"Yes, this is Northern Light for Garnett. Citizen Z hitting you back. Go for Garnett" Ellie sighed out in relief when she heard Citizen Z's voice come out of the speaker
"Thank God. We've been trying to make this work for hours".
"What are you broadcasting on?"
"Uh, Clowny the French fry guy" Garnett said "One of our team, carver jerry- ridged a drive- thru camera"
"Addy Carver?"
"Yeah?"
"Is she there? I wanna say hi"
"Oh okay" Garnett said sounding a bit confused before he gestured for Addy to come over
"Hi Addy"
"Hey" Addy said also sounding confused, she didn't know this guy so why did he want to talk to her
"How's it going down there?"
"Umm, it's pretty eff'd up actually, How's it going wherever you are?"
"Aww you know, same ol' same ol', Busy keeping an eye on the world. What can I do for you folks?"
"Can we get a chocolate shake and fries for ten thousand man?" Doc said jokingly coming up to the camera
"Could we please get on with this before the Z's find us?" Murphy interrupted pushing Doc out of the way
"Wait. Is that Murphy?... Outstanding, Glad to see you're still alive,sir"
"Yeah but he won't be for long if we don't get off this highway" Garnett said "We're in desperate need of alternate transpo. We're looking for an airplane or a chopper or a hot air balloon. Anything airborne"
"Uh... There is one thing, Ive been monitoring some random transmissions from what's left of the Emergency Headquarters for Infection Control. I can hear them, but they don't respond when I reply and it's pretty garbled. General McCandles might still be holed up there... You're in luck, I have a visual confirmation on that chopper. It looks like it's still there"
"Where is it?" Garnett asked
"McLean, Virginia. Twenty clicks due west of Washington DC. Look for a high rise with structural damage and a chopper on the roof"
"Now that's a hundred miles south from here" Murphy complained "We're going west, not south west"
"Do you want to get off the road or not?" Garnett argued and Murphy was just about to respond but they were interrupted by Warren telling them "Puppies and Kittens!"
"We gotta go" Garnett said turning back to the intercom
"Bye Addison, Call me when you get there" They heard Citizen Z say as they were getting into the vehicle
"I think somebodies got a little crush on you Addy" Ellie teased as they set of to the location.
"No he doesn't" Addy denied her cheeks going a little bit red. "This guy doesn't even know me and I have Mack"
"Even so, this guy definitely fancies you" Ellie said making kissy faces at her
"Shut up Ellie" Addy grumbled nudging her in the side making Ellie grunt and then she started laughing which made Addy start smiling and Warren and Garnett started chuckling too. Even Murphy had a little smile on his face. It may be the apocalypse Ellie thought but it wasn't all that bad, she had her friends who she saw as family and they were all alive and well.
Emergency Headquarters Infection Control- McLean, VA
As they drove through the broken gates of the headquarters they all quickly lost hope of finding anything, the place looked abandoned and it was falling apart, there were crashed ambulances with dead zombies inside and their were dead zombie soldiers everywhere.
"Not exactly what I was hoping for" Garnett said as he pulled the truck to a stop and got out of the truck
"One of these days you're gonna learn to quit hoping for things" Murphy grumbled as he also got out of the truck.
"You better hope not" Warren said coming around the truck to join them "Cuz that's when we leave your ass at the side of the road" Warren had her weapon out ready her hand on the trigger, prepared for anything as her, Garnett, Murphy, Ellie and Doc walked towards the entrance, while 10k stayed in the bed of the truck rifle ready to cover them from afar, and Cassandra, Mack and Addy hovered by the truck. Addy had her camera out filming.
"Halt! Who goes there!?" A man shouted from above them and when they looked up they saw a man in a army uniform aiming a gun at them and Warren and Ellie lifted their weapons towards him just in case as he looked a bit scatty.
"Sergeant Charles Garnett, National Guard" Garnett said. "This is Lieutenant Roberta Warren, also National Guard" He said gesturing to Warren
"State your business" The guard said sternly still not lowering his weapon and neither did Warren or Ellie
"We're on a high priority mission to get this man to a CDC lab in California" Garnett said pointing to Murphy who gave a little wave. "We were sent here by an Intel Officer from the NSA to see General McCandles. We need his help finding transpo, We were told he has a helicopter".
"Yeah, he's got a chopper. But General McCandles is a very busy man" The guard said "He's got the entire east coast under his command. He can't worry about some raggedy ass group of civilians on a suicide mission. I suggest you move on before the infected find you"
"What part of high priority mission did you miss there?" Ellie asked irritated
"Nothing raggedy ass about this group of civilians, sir" Warren said mockingly at the same time as Ellie "And this man has important information about a vaccine for the zombie virus". That got the man's attention, he looked back at Murphy before slowly backing away weapon still aimed at them and walked down the stairs to stop in front of Warren, Garnett and Ellie.
"He smells like a Damn Z" The guard said as he came to a stop
"You don't smell so good yourself, septic tank" Murphy said offended while looking the man up and down.
"You gonna help us or not?" Garnett asked him drawing his attention to him.
"You want to see the General?, You're going to have to pay a tribute. Gesture of goodwill to show him you're serious"
"What kind of tribute you have in mind?" Garnett asked him
"Our medic has been MIA over a year. We need painkillers. Antibiotics. Anything you got". They all looked at each other before they turned to Doc who was standing by the ambulance.
"I'll get my bag" Doc said walking back to the truck.
Meanwhile Ellie leaned towards Warren to whisper in her ear. "He doesn't need them for medical reasons look at his eyes,his pupils are diluted and he's twitchy. He's an addict!" Warren pulled away to look at her before turning to the man who shifted uncomfortably at being observed before tuning back to Ellie nodding.
"Keep an eye on him, If he's an addict we don't know how he could react, we'll give him what he wants and we get what we want and then we clear out".
"Gotcha" Ellie said looking back towards the man and only looked away when Doc came back with his bag.
"I got aspirin, tetracycline, cipro. That should knock out most any infection" Doc said looking back at the guard but he just nodded for him to carry on not interested in anything he had said 'And oxycontin -"
"The oxy" the guard interrupted "We need painkillers". Doc hesitated before looking at Garnett who nodded at him so Doc took out a bag with the oxy in and pulled out one pill and put it in the guards hand which was ready and waiting, but the guard didn't look impressed.
"You want to see the general or not?" He said sounding annoyed
"This is the last of our supply" Doc said trying to reason with him but the guard was having none of it, so Doc pulled out a few more pills and gave them to him.
"That'll do" The guard said then he chucked them into his mouth
"Hey" Doc said sounding offended but the guard just ignored him while he was salivating with the taste of the drugs his eyes closed, he let out a loud sigh before opening his eyes again and he said "The general will see you now" He sounded a lot happier now he had had his fix and was smiling.
The guard led Warren, Garnett, Murphy and Ellie up the steps to a door with a an intercom while Mack and Addy stayed at the bottom of the steps while Cassandra and 10k stayed by the vehicle.
"Why are you wasting my time?" A voice said across the intercom
"General McCandles, sir" The guard said back "We have a national Guard unit and several civilians requesting permission to speak to you"
"Is sweet Jesus with them?"
"No sir. I don't believe so"
"Then tell them to go to hell!I got a war to fight! Where's that close air support I ordered?, Tell the Admiral I need those subs in position by 0800. Bravo company, hold your position at all costs, Repeat, all costs"
"You heard the General"
"General McCandles, Sir." Garnett said ignoring the man and pushing past him to get to the intercom. "We're on a mission of extreme importance by direct order from the president. It's imperative we find air transport to Mt. Wilson CDC lab in California"
"Sorry, I'm busy'"General McCandles said interrupting Garnett "Where are my reinforcements?"
"You heard the man." The guard said "Time to go"
"That's it?" Doc shouted angrily coming to stand behind the guard and grabbing the back of his uniform to make him face him. "I've a good mind to make you barf up my oxycontin".
"Doc! Doc! Stand down!" Garnett said grabbing Docs hands to try and pull him away.
"Did you say Doc? As in Doctor?" McCandles said
"Yeah, our team includes a medical doctor" Garnett said after making sure Doc had cooled of
"Why didn't you say so? Send him up. I have a wounded man in need of medical attention"
As Garnett was going to walk towards the door with the rest of the group following he was stopped by the guard 'Just the doctor. The rest of you wait here'.
"I got this" Doc said picking up his bag and walking towards the door.
"All right. Hey, hey, hey" Garnett said getting Doc's attention "Talk to him about the chopper"
"All right" Doc said nodding before walking through the door.
