Alicia blinked her eyes, wondering why it was so hard to do so.
"Alicia, Alicia, can you hear me?" a female voice asked. She tried to see who was speaking, but the room was too bright. She tried to raise her arm to block the light, but found she couldn't.
"It's alright, you're alright. They've got you restrained so you can't hurt yourself. Do you know where you are?" the voice was asking. Alicia tried to blink the room into clarity. All she saw was a white ceiling with sand colored speckled tiles. She couldn't move her head to see more than that. She tried looking at the edges of her vision, but only saw darkness.
"No," she finally managed to rasp, her voice sounding odd to her ears.
"You're in the hospital wing. You were in an accident," the voice explained. Alicia wished she could figure out who was talking. She realized the person was holding her hand.
"What happened?"
"You crashed, badly," the voice answered. Alicia remembered flying, remembered the bludger coming at her. Where had Fred and George been? She remembered the world going white. Had it hit her?
"My vision?"
"They say it's going to come back just fine, you're going to be fine. It was a bad head injury, and then you crashed. When you crashed, you broke both your legs."
"Fuck," Alicia muttered, knowing that was going keep her off the pitch for awhile, if not the whole season. Broken bones could be repaired with magic, but it wasn't instantaneous and there was definitely a longer recovery time than she wanted.
"Don't worry, you'll heal, remember how Madame Pomfrey regrew Potter's arm?"
"True."
"And they're not bad breaks, from what I overheard. Nice and clean," the voice stated. Alicia blinked again, the room coming into more focus. She saw a lock of golden blond hair swinging past her face. A small smile crossed her lips.
"How long have you been sitting there, Katie?"
"Since they brought you in, Alicia, they tried to tell me I wasn't allowed, but I made some big noise about inclusion and if Potter's girlfriend could be with him when he was injured, so could I!"
"Must have been terrifying then, watching me fall?"
"It was! I thought you were dead, Alicia! That was two days ago, mind you, but-"
"I've been here two days?!"
"Madame Promfrey said you'd heal quicker if you were unconscious and then you kept fighting her every time she tried to give you a potion."
"You've been sitting there two days?"
"Pretty much, I did get up and eat a few times. Fred sat with you then, and George one time, and Angelina when I had to go to class. The whole team's been in on and off. They'll be glad you're awake."
"Katie, did we win that match? The one where I got hurt?"
"Potter got the snitch while you were spiraling down, so yeah. We won, not that it mattered to me, you know, I thought you were dead."
"Well, I'm not, and you're going to help me get back on that broom as soon as I'm cleared, right?"
"Right! Alicia?"
"Yes?"
"Don't do that again, please?" Katie asked.
"I promise I won't intentionally get hurt and let you think I'm dead," Alicia promised. "Since I'm not fighting anymore, think you could get Madame Pomfrey to undo these restraints so I can kiss you?"
"I'll go find her," Katie laughed, giving Alicia's forehead a quick kiss before she left.
