Season 1 Episode 6 Part Two
Doc's Pov
"Come on! Lets go!" Doc shouted to the others as him and Cassandra got the door open "Hurry!, Come on you guys!" He shouted to Mack and Addy who ran through the door and Doc and Cassandra quickly tried to slide it shut but the zombie was quicker he managed to get his arm through and then his body making them all run away and into the kitchen.
The zombie charged through the kitchen and collided with Mack who struggled to get the zombie of him, they went into the wall and knocked things over in the struggle but with the help of Addy they managed to get the snarling zombie on the ground where Addy was able to grab and electric whisk, which she turned on and pushed into the zombies face making blood squirt everywhere until the Z's moments eased.
"Oh, that was a bad one" Addy said breathlessly and she dropped down next to the zombie Mack doing the some on the other side.
"Where's Murphy and Ellie?" Mack asked Doc and Cassandra who were holding the door shut.
"The last we saw, he ran out some other door" Cassandra said "And Ellie went after him"
"We need a leash for that guy"
"When I find this guy, I'm gonna find some handcuffs or something and he is permanently going to be attached to one of us, that way he can't run off when ever he feels like it" Ellie grumbled under her breath as she was searching for Murphy again.
She had managed to find a candlestick to use as a weapon but if a whole horde turned up she was screwed. She had been walking around for about 10 minutes and luckily enough hadn't come across any zombies yet. Making her way down a corridor she was just about to go through one door when she heard a shout coming from the door behind her so she made her way through it which led her to another corridor and looking down it she sighed out it relief when she caught the back of Murphy standing in the bathroom.
"Murphy!" She exclaimed when she got into the room making him jump and spin around, she also made a woman who she didn't even know she was in there jump and raise her weapon.
"Sorry Human" She said quickly lifting up her one hand to show she meant her no harm.
"You two part of a group" The woman said
"Yeah, and hopefully they are still alive" Ellie said sending a glare at Murphy
"Well as I was about too say" The woman said making Ellie turn back to look at her "If we stick together. Three of us might have a chance"
Ellie nodded and was about to say something but was interrupted by a growl. They all turned around to see a single zombie running towards them, Ellie lifted up her weapon as did the woman but Murphy just backed into the wall and for some strange reason the Z just ignored him and ran straight to Ellie and the woman. As soon as the zombie was close enough Ellie whacked the zombie across the head sending him into the path of the woman who also hit it sending the zombie to the floor and her and Ellie just continued hitting it until it stopped moving.
"why didn't you help?"The woman asked Murphy breathlessly who just stared at her in shock "Why didn't it attack you? Are you apart of this!?" She shouted raising her weapon towards Murphy who quickly raised his hands
"No!No" Murphy said shakily slowly backing away until Ellie steeped in front of him facing the woman
"Take it easy" She said to the woman as she held out her weapon free hand in front of her trying to calm the woman down. "We are all on the same side here, Murphys just more off a run away type then a fight type. So how abo- "
But Ellie was cut of by growling and turning her head to look behind her she saw two zombies running towards them.
"Great" She said raising the candlestick again. They struggled with one zombie how were they gonna manage with two. "Get back Murphy" Ellie said trying to pull Murphy away from the door but he wouldn't budge instead he grabbed her arm and pulled her towards him making her let out a grunt of surprise. He then wrapped his arms around her like he was giving her a hug from behind and spun them around so his back was facing the zombies. "What are you doing!?" Ellie asked but he just ignored her and surprisingly enough the zombie ran straight past both of them and went straight to the woman.
"Help me! For Gods sake!" The woman shouted and Ellie struggled too get out of Murphys grasp but he had a surprisingly tight grip on her as he backed out of the bathroom forcing Ellie to go with him "Don't leave me!" The woman cried
"Murphy let me go!" Ellie cried still struggling but she was ignored "We can't just leave her!"
"Shh" He whispered to her and Ellie could hear more zombies approaching making her cease her struggling, while Murphy carried on pulling them back. The zombies knocked them as they ran past but paid no attention to them and Ellie couldn't help but let a tear out from fear of being eaten and the desperate cries she could hear from the woman. When they had finally got to the end of the corridor Murphy let Ellie go and seeing that the cost was clear and knowing it would be suicide to try and go back for the woman they both legged it down another corridor and away from the zombies.
They ran down a few more corridors until they came to a door, that led to the outside so they quickly went through it.
"How did you do that... Why didn't it attack you... or me?" Ellie asked as soon as they were outside
"I don't know" Murphy said "They didn't seem interested in me so I figured maybe if you were close they wouldn't attack you either and I was right so instead of interrogating me, maybe you should be thanking me and then we should be going to find the others".
"You're right and thank you and now we have to get some weapons" Ellie said "I think the armory was this way" she said pointing to their right so they both carried on running, going around the corner Ellie suddenly stopped when she heard a grunt behind her and turning around quickly she saw four people and they were armed with guns which were currently pointed at her. One of the men had Murphy with a rope wrapped around his neck and Ellie realised that they thought he was a zombie and he didn't seem to be bothered about it so she didn't want to blow his cover.
"You're part of Jacobs cult I assume" Ellie said throwing the candle stick on the ground she knew it would do much good against guns, she then raised her hands above her head.
"Yes" The man in the front said "And you have the honor to become a member of the Resurrection Church. Put the resurrected to the cage" The man said to the one holding Murphy "You start walking " The man in front walked forward and gestured for Ellie to turn around which she did and they led her back to the clearing where the cage was, she could also see the rest of the group and some others on their knees in a line with their hands behind their back.
"Hi guys, fancy seeing you here" she said sarcastically as she got led to the end of the line, before she was roughly pushed to her knees and her hands were grabbed and fastened with a zip tie behind her back.
"The last of the Resurrected have been secured" The man in blue said to what they all assumed what Jacob
"And those who died today have the honor of entering into grace ahead of us" Jacob said smiling "Blessed is the path before them. Blessed will their journey be. Brothers and sisters, I know you have hate in your hearts right now and do not come willingly to this test of faith. But today each of you will become part of the new Resurrection Church. But first however you must choose how you will serve. You may join the living flock and spend your days serving the Resurrected. Or your souls taking the next step on their journey to eternal life." Jacob said as one of the other men brought a zombie with a rope over his neck over "The time has come for you to choose. Join me and walk among the living or follow this blasphemer who thought he could oppose the righteous and now walks among the dead. Now don't feel sorrow for the Major, brothers and sisters. Although we stood against the man he was, we take joy in his choice to join the resurrected! Blessed I the path before him!"
"What choice?" Garnett snarled as he glared at Jacob` "To live with you lunatics or die and become a zombie?" Ellie couldn't help but agree as she struggled to get out of the zip tie, she noticed that her bracelet had got in the way so it wasn't as tight as it should be but it was still tight and if she was caught she would probably be shot on sight.
"I don't know your name brother" Jacob said still smiling "But I welcome you to the Resurrection Church. With us you will know everlasting joy and peace"
"There was peace here. Joe Williams the man you killed gave you peace" Garnett said "This was a good place. This was a safe place. And it can be again. It's not too late. Put down your weapons. Lets live the way that people are supposed to. Helping one another, working together. It's not too late. Put down your weapons. Let is free. We'll help you. The resurrected aren't any closer to God than you and I are"
"I envy you, brother" Jacob said still smiling as he walked around the group to stop behind Garnett. "The time for you to walk among the Resurrected is near"
Looking towards Jacob Ellie could see him handling a cross when she suddenly realised what it was and she struggled to even more to get free. Warren realised what it was too as she tried to get up as she shouted his name but she was hit in the face by the guy in blues gun knocking her to the ground as she moaned in pain.
"I'm gonna kill you, you psychotic bastard" Warren snarled as she led on the floor
"Don't you worry, sister" Jacob said as he stepped forward with the dagger "You won't be far behind your Charlie. Rejoice as both of you will walk before me on the road to everlasting life" He said before he suddenly leaned forward and put the blade to Garnett's neck
"Listen Jacob, Kill me, resurrect me, but spare the others" Garnett pleaded
"Don't be afraid, brother. I send you to a better place. Blessed is the path before him!. I am the new resurrection and the life. Whoever believed in me though shall die, yet shall he live" He then tightened his grip on the blade and went to cut Garnett's throat making them all shout out but they were all interrupted.
"STOP!" A voice shouted and they all turned to the direction of the voice which was the zombie cage and they saw Murphy standing at the front of the cage leaving shock looks all over there face including Ellie who forgot he was in there.
"If you think the resurrected are one step closer to heaven then prepare to meet your new god" Murphy said as he ripped open his shirt to reveal the bites
"Come brother" Jacob said with that annoying smile still over his face "Step away from the resurrected. That's no place for a mortal human" He said as Murphy stepped forward and reached his hand around to unlock the gate and stepped out "Come join our flock all are welcome "
Join your flock?" Murphy said as he locked the gate again and walked towards Jacob "I am not one of the Resurrected. I'm your messiah" He said as he through his arms out and Jacob did not look happy
"That's Blasphemy, brother. We can all see you're one of the living"
"Eight time! I was bitten and did not turn! Eight times I was infected by their bloody saliva and yet here I stand before you. And I am here to tell you that he is the false prophet! For I am the true incarnation of the resurrected!
"What the hell is he doing?" Ellie heard Warren whisper and she was wondering the same thing if he pissed any off them off they could shoot him and all this would be for nothing. Thankfully Ellie had managed to loosen the zip ties enough so she would be able to wriggle her hands out now she just had to pick the right moment
"I have no idea" Garnett whispered back
"Kill the blasphemer" Jacob said to the blue shirt guy who hesitated
"But the bites, Jacob"
"He's a false prophet!"
"I can prove it! I can prove that my words are true" Murphy said
"Tell, us Blasphemer" Jacob said "How could you possibly prove this outrageous lie?"
"I'll show you" Murphy said after a few seconds of hesitation and he walked back towards the zombie cage opened it and pulled a zombie out. "Observe Ye of little Faith" Murphy lifted up his hand and put two fingers into the zombies open mouth and it didn't bite down.
"Jesus" Garnett said shocked
"No just Murphy" Warren said back but she sounded equally as shocked
"Ok that's enough of that" Murphy said quickly taking his hand out of the zombies mouth and put him back in the cage "The resurrected will not attack me because they love and fear me. Behold my flock" He finished looking back at them all to see all their shocked expressions but Jacob just looked annoyed. "There's your proof brothers and sisters. Now let us go Jacob before my flock resurrects all of you!"
"Jacob what if he speaks the truth?" The blue shirt guy said
"He's no Messiah. Ill prove it" There's one last test for you to pass, blasphemer" Jacob said as a woman stepped forward and gave him a gun "A bullet to the heart will reveal the truth!" He said as Murphy backed away.
"No!" Warren screamed running forward as did Garnett and Ellie got her wrist free and tripped up one of the people running past, she quickly punched him in the face dazing him which allowed her to grab his gun and h hit in the face with the butt knocking him out but she was too late. As she stood up she could see Jacob was still aiming at Murphy and Garnett quickly jumped in front of him as he gun was fired and Garnett was shot.
"NO!" Ellie shouted aiming the gun at Jacob but someone else beat her too it and she knew it had to be 10k and he kept on firing at the others so Ellie ran to Garnett as did Warren when Murphy freed her from the zip tie with the knife he picked up.
"Charlie!" She cried and she knelt next to him, Ellie knelt on his other side. "You'll be ok" She cried as she held his head
"Go get... Go get Murphy" He said struggling to get his words out
"No. I'm not leaving you"
"If he dies... this... will.. have been for nothing"
"We are not leaving you Garnett" Ellie cried
"I'm gonna die anyway... but it Murphy dies... I die in vain.. Hammond dies in vain and anyone else that died to get him to us... we would have die for nothing... don't let me die in vain",
"He's right Warren" Ellie whispered tears coming down her face "You stay with him I'll make sure the others are safe" She leaned down to place a kiss on Garnett's forehead "I love you" She cried
"I love you too" He said holding up his hand for her to take and she held it in a tight grip "I'm so glad we met you, I lost my children but I gained another in you and I am so proud of the ….woman you have become... don't you stop fighting... don't let anyone break that …...kind hearted... spirit" he finished also crying
"I won't, I promise" she cried and she pressed a gentle kiss to his hand and sent him a small smile which he returned "See you in another life" she said as she past his hand over to Warren who was also crying and gave her shoulder a gentle before she grabbed the gun and stood up.
Wiping away her tears she looked around and saw Cassandra had brought the truck to them and was currently opening the gate with bolt cutters. She could also see that the other were free and running to the gate as well as Murphy so Ellie followed shooting any zombies on the way. As she stopped in front of Cassandra she heard a shout and turning back around she saw Mack and Doc trying to pull a distraught Warren away from Garnett which made her heart break even more. But while they were all distracted they failed to see one of the resurrection cult was still alive, until they heard a shot fire out and Ellie let out a shout of pain as she landed on the floor as well as Cassandra who was holding her bleeding arm. They then all heard another gun shout sound out and thy guy dropped dead to reveal 10k behind him.
"Ellie!?" She thought she heard someone shout but she couldn't identify the voice all she could focus on was the excruciating pain going through her stomach. A face came into her line of sight but it was blurred and she could hear muffled sounds, so she knew they were trying to talk to her but she couldn't focus.
"Ellie you need to stay awake" she heard and finally her gaze come into focus and she saw Addy's worried face looking at her
"Is Cassandra ok... I heard her... is she?" Ellie said panicking and she struggled to get up to look around
"Ellie, Ellie, Cassandra's fine, I think it just grazed her. But we need to get you up and it's probably gonna hurt ok?, so you keep pressure on the wound and we'll pull you up" Addy said as 10k came running down to her
"Ok" Ellie said nodding and they both leaned down to pull her up and Ellie gritted her teeth as fire spread through her body as they pulled her up "Jesus!" She exclaimed once she was standing panting hard. They both put an arm around their shoulders and basically carried her to the truck. "Where's Warren?"
"She's already in the truck, they had to force her in" 10k explained
Once they were at the back of the truck she saw that Doc was waiting for her in the bed of the truck and Mack was on the ground ready to help her in. Cassandra had managed to pull herself in with a little help from Doc but Ellie didn't know how they were gonna get her in.
"Right Ellie we are gonna turn you around so your back is against the truck and me and Doc are gonna pull you up while the others lift your legs ok?" Mack explained as he climbed in and 10k and Addy turned her around so she was leaning against the truck. "On three" he said "One, two, three!" and once he said that Addy and 10K grabbed her legs while Mack and Doc grabbed her shoulders and they managed to pull her into the truck. With a cry of pain from Ellie they managed to get her leaning against the edge of the truck.
"Right Mack, Addy get in the truck. 10K you get in here, I need you to keep the zombies off us and this space is not big enough for all of us" Doc explained which they all complied and one Mack was in the drivers seat they were taking off down the road
"Ellie come lie down" He said to her seeing how see was still scrunched against the side.
"No thanks... I'm good" She wheezed knowing that if she lied down it was gonna cause a lot of pain "Help Cassandra she got shot too"
"Cassandra just had a flesh wound might need a few stitches, but Ellie I need access to your wound, you are bleeding and if we don't stop it you could die, so please I need you to lie down" Doc pleaded patting the make shift pillow they made out of jackets.
"Ok" she sighed and slowly and painfully she managed to shuffle herself over and lie down with the help of Doc. Who quickly lifted up her shirt to reveal the wound on her lower left stomach just above her hip.
"Is it bad?" Ellie asked flinching when Doc touched it.
"Your lucky it went straight through" Doc said as he inspected the wound "Don't think it hit anything vital, you'd be bleeding more but you are gonna need stitches. Lifting up his hand he rested it on her forehead and then checked her pulse. "You don't got a fever, and your pulse is steady. You got lucky kid".
"I don't feel lucky and I bet Cassandra doesn't either" Ellie smiled through the pain
"Well at least you still got your humor" Doc joked and he put a cloth over the wound "Keep pressure on that" he said which Ellie did and she was very grateful that she was lying down now as they heard Warren shout out 'stop' and the vehicle suddenly came to a halt jarring her wound even more and she let out a gasp.
"Seriously Mack?!" Doc shouted and they heard a small sorry come back when suddenly the passenger door opened and Warren stepped out
"What is she doing?" They heard Murphy ask from the open window but nobody responded and Warren just walked over to 10k and grabbed his rifle before going to the end of the truck and aiming it.
"Charles Garnett, I give you mercy" She said before she fired, she took aim again and shot Jacob in the heart so he turned. She then walked back to 10k giving him back his rifle "How are they" She said sadly to Doc leaning over to grab Ellie's hand who gladly accepted.
"Cassandra's just a graze and Ellie was extremely lucky" Doc said and Warren just nodded before squeezing Ellie's hand who smiled sadly at her before letting go and getting back into the vehicle.
"Lets go" She said and they set off again and the only sounds they could hear where gentle whimpers and gaps from Ellie while Doc was cleaning up her wound.
"If I die, you can't let me turn" Ellie said lifting up her head as Doc was stitching up her wound "I don't want to be one of those things walking around without a soul"
"Hey now" Doc said smiling softly "Don't go all dramatic on me now, you are going to be up and about in no time, you hear me. We are not loosing anyone else, now as soon as I've finished stitching up this wound I can dress it and then you can have a long nap ok?"
"Ok" Ellie said lowering her head back down and flinching every now and then. "Seriously Doc" Ellie groaned out in pain when Doc hit a particular sore spot and she lifted up her arm to hide her head in the crook of her elbow.
"Sorry Ellie last one" Doc promised "All done" he said and Ellie let a sigh of relief out. Doc placed a gauze pad over the wound before calling 10k over and they both managed to pull Ellie into a siting position so Doc could bandage the wound.
"Now take these, they will help with the pain and your gonna have to take it easy for while Doctors orders" He smiled handing Ellie a few pills which she chucked into her mouth and swallowed them with water from Cassandra "Take a nap kid and you'll be alright" Doc said and Ellie happily obliged, lying down with a wince she was soon lost to the world as breathing evened out.
"Is she going to be alright?" Cassandra asked concern laced through her voice.
"She should be, as long as we can keep the wound clean and she doesn't strain herself she should heal quite nicely. We just have to pray the wound doesn't get infected" He said seriously and they all looked at her with a worried expression they had just lost one friend they didn't want to loose another friend.
So while Ellie slept on soundly 10k got up and sat at the end of the bed of the truck with his weapon perched on the side while doc inspected Cassandra's arm. It was quiet in the truck no one knew what to say, they lost one of their own and they knew that Garnett wouldn't be the last but they all hoped it wouldn't come to that. They had become a family and none of them wanted to loose that.
