Season one Episode 8 Part One

Ellie was walking through the deserted streets of New York, the streets were quiet not a soul in sight. There was smoke coming from several car that had crashed into each other or into walls, bins were knocked over, shopping bags all over the place. Windows were smashed in with glass all over the place.

"Hello?!" Ellie shouted as she walked down the street "Is anyone there?!". Where is everybody? She thought to herself, but was startled form her thoughts when she heard a bang behind her. Spinning around on the spot to look behind her she saw the back of a man who was crouched over the bin like he had tripped over it.

"Hello?" she asked the man,quietly this time. She could sense something was wrong. "Are you alright?" She asked but all she got out of the man was a grunt so she walked slowly towards him "Do you need any help?"

Ellie stopped right behind the man and placed a hand on his back which got a response out of him. She heard the man let out a snarl startling her so she backed away and the man slowly raised to his feet and spun around to face her. And what she saw made her heart stop, the man had blood all over his mouth, his eyes dead. He also had a chunk of flesh taken out of his cheek. "Oh my god" she gasped hand going to her mouth backing even more away from the man but he followed her until suddenly he snarled and charged at her. Ellie let out a scream and threw her arms over her face and the world went blank.

"Ellie! Ellie?!" She could hear a distorted voice calling her name "Ellie!?" She heard the voice again but only clearer. "Ellie!" She heard again and she could feel someone shaking her and when her vision cleared she could see the concerned faces of her friend Lilly and Alyssa.

"Ellie we have to go" Alyssa said hurriedly her eyes glancing anxiously behind her and then back to look at Ellie. "Come on" she said pulling her forward.

"Wha-?" Ellie went to ask but was interrupted by a scream and a load of growls tuning her head in the direction of the noise Ellie could see hundreds of people charging towards them. But then she realised they couldn't be people, she could see flesh missing from different parts of their bodies and they looked dead. She let out a gasp when one of them got close to a person and charged at him biting him and he let out of wail of pain with blood squirting everywhere, some of the other things joined in too sending the man to the ground as they eat him alive.

"Ellie come on" Lilly said and both her and Alyssa dragged her away and they ran in the opposite direction. She realised now they were in a different part of the city there was people running in all directions and so were these creatures, zombies she realised, charging at anyone who got to close. The air was filled with painful cries and screams as everyone feared for their life.

"What's happening?!" Ellie shouted as they were running

"Don't know just keep running" Alyssa shouted back as they rounded a corner

"Where did they come from?"

"Ellie just keep running we need to get out of the ci-" Lilly was saying but they all skidded to a stop when a zombie stepped out in front of them. Letting out a gasp they all slowly backed away when they heard another growl behind them and suddenly Lilly let out a scream as the zombie bit her in the neck taking out a chunk of it and blood squirted out of her neck.

"Lilly!" Ellie shouted as she dropped to the floor and the zombie followed feeding on her flesh. Knowing there was nothing they could do Ellie reached back to grab Alyssa's hand and tried to pull her away from the zombie when she felt a searing pain in her wrist and looking behind her she saw a zombie attached to her wrist while another one went for Alyssa. Screaming out in pain Ellie lashed out with her other hand sending the zombie to the floor but without the zombie taking out a big chunk of her wrist on the way down making her scream out again tears coming to her eyes.

Holding her wrist to her chest she could feel the blood running down to her elbow and she knew she had to find something to stem the bleeding and looking around she could see the two zombies that had fed on her friends were now looking at her and the one who bit her was getting up off the floor, she could also see that her friends were now standing and snarling at her and she knew they weren't alive any more, they had turned and she knew she wouldn't be able to run, she was already feeling light headed from the blood loss. So when they all charged at her she didn't try to stop them she just closed her eyes and waited for the inevitable but she didn't feel any pain from tearing flesh or their growls instead she heard several gunshots followed by several thuds.

Opening her eyes she saw the zombies dead on the floor, looking around she saw several military men with their guns out running towards her direction, when he body decided it couldn't take any more and she collapsed on the floor and then she knew no more.

When she came to she felt like she had been asleep for months, she could hear disoriented words being said but only catching a few like 'bit, turned, 48 hours, tests, blood' and then she lost consciousness again. When she woke up the next time her mind felt a little bit clearer, she could feel that she was led on something cold she tried to lift her hand up but her movements were restricted. Opening her eyes she squinted at the bright light and once they had adjusted she saw she was in some kind of lab.

"You're awake" A voice said to her left and looking towards it Ellie saw a woman in lab coat looking down at her. "We wasn't sure if you'd wake up you lost a lot of blood, so I'm glad to see some colour in those cheeks, now I know you must be confused and probably going to have questions but that's going have to wait. Now the real experiment can begin"

"Real experiment? What?" She asked confused

"Bring it in" the woman said ignoring Ellie and the door opened and someone walked in with a zombie on a leash. "Let it go" she said and the guy took the leash of his neck and both him and the woman ran out of the room and slammed the door shut leaving Ellie alone with the zombie who growled and charged at her and she let out a cry of pain as the zombie attached itself to her hip tearing at the flesh. Tears sprang to her eyes as she thrashed on the table trying to get the zombie off but it didn't work and she could feel herself losing consciousness and soon the world went dark.

Ellie gasped out loud shooting up from where she was lying on the back seat. Shuffling backwards until her back hit the car door, she struggled to find her bearings.

"Ellie!?" She heard several voices say

"Pull over" She heard someone else say and Ellie suddenly remembered where she was and when she felt the truck pull to a stop she manoeuvred herself around, opened the door and climbed out landing on her hands and knees next to the grass as she vomited out what little contents she had in her stomach.

"Easy" She heard someone say and then someone was grabbing her hair and holding it out of her face and rubbing their hand down her back and she realised it was Warren. Once she was sure she wasn't going to be sick again she sat backwards pulling her legs up to her chest and rested her head on her knees.

"What the hell was that?" She heard Murphy say and lifting her head to look back at them she saw that they had all got out of the truck and was looking at her worriedly. Including 10k and Cassandra who were still in the bed of the trunk but was looking down at her.

"Bad dream" Ellie gasped out and she was grateful when Warren gave her a bottle of water, their last bottle which didn't have a lot left which she swished some around her mouth to try and get rid of the taste before spitting it out then she took a small gulp of water.

"That was no bad dream, they don't make you puke your guts out"

"A nightmare then" Ellie sighed wiping her mouth with her sleeve before putting the lid back on the bottle and placing it on the ground next to her. "I don't know it just felt so real. It's like it was actually happening and i could feel it happening. I forgot where I was for a second and then thought it could be real"

"Its probably your brains way of trying to deal with the trauma your bodies been put through" Doc explained walking towards her and resting a hand on her forehead. "You don't have a fever"

"I don't feel ill Doc, and don't worry I didn't pull my stitches" Ellie said pushing his hand away gently "It just felt so real, It was like I could feel the pain like it was actually happening."

"What pain?" Warren asked concern evident across her face

"I'll explain in the car, because I think us being stationary on the side of the road too long is gonna attract some unwanted attention"

"Yeah Ellie's right" Doc said and Warren nodded too before standing up and holding her hands out towards Ellie who took them and she pulled her up of the floor.

"Thanks" Ellie said before turning towards the vehicle and climbing back into the truck and Murphy climbed in next to her. Warren got into the passenger seat and turned to look at her while Doc got into the drivers seat and started the truck.

"You don't have to talk about it if you don't want to" Warren reassured her "But it might help if you do"

Ellie smiled gently turning her head to look out the window at the passing scenery before letting out a sigh.

"I told you I was travelling with friends, didn't I? Before all this happened" Ellie said turning back to look at Warren who nodded.

"Well my dream started with me walking down a deserted street in central New York and it was a mess, like a bomb went off and I saw this man on the floor and I thought he was hurt but he wasn't he had turned only I didn't know that at the time and then my friends turned up out of nowhere, Lilly and Alyssa telling me to run. And now there were zombies everywhere and one of them got Lily they took a big chunk out of her neck and when I went to grab Alyssa I got bit too and then they got Alyssa"

"Ive heard some of this before, you told me that your friends died, you got away and when you came across us you had been on your own for a month" Warren said and Ellie nodded

"I did say that but I didn't tell you everything" Ellie said sniffling her dream had brought up bad memories "I was loosing so much blood and I thought this was it I was gonna die and turn when theses men suddenly appeared in military uniform shooting them all and that's when I blacked out. I woke up but was disoriented I could hear voices but they weren't clear, I heard words like blood, test, bit. But I blacked out again and when I woke up again I was more lucid and there was a person talking to me when someone else walked in and they had a zombie with them restrained. They said the real test could now began and they let the zombie loose before locking me in with it and it charged at me basically eating me alive before I blacked out again. Then I woke up"

"Wow" She heard Warren say and Ellie opened her eyes not even realising she closed them and looked at Warren.

"No wonder you puked up your guts" Murphy said and she could see sympathy in his eyes but also something else but she couldn't put her finger on it.

"Well we know the ending isn't true" Doc said from the driver seat "If that had happened you wouldn't be here right now, because the vaccine didn't exist at the beginning of the out break. I mean Murphys only just received it"

"True" Ellie said "But something happened to me"

"What do you mean?" Warren asked

"When I said to you that I didn't tell you everything" Ellie explained "When I met you I had been on my own for about a month but remeber when 10k asked about my scar and i said i couldn't remember and i was missing memories, this is what happened"

"You still cant remember what happened" Doc asked and Ellie shook her head no.

"I remember coming on holiday with my friends, we'd been there for a few days when the outbreak started and we were in central New York when it happened, we were doing shopping when we heard screams and then suddenly loads of people are running in our direction and we can hear snarling and then more screams, and that when we saw our first zombie and we just thought he was ill and I think another man did to because he went towards him and the zombie charged at him and ripped a chunk out of his face and then that's when the rest of us started running".

"So the beginning of your dream was based of that" Warren concluded "What happened after that?"

"Exactly what happened in the dream, Lilly fell over and a zombie had her and me and Alyssa got dragged away with the crowd so we couldn't get to her and when we managed to get away from the crowd we ran down a alleyway when we came face to face with two more zombies they both charged at us and I managed to fight it off, there was a plank of wood of the floor so I knocked it back with that. But Alyssa wasn't so lucky, I heard her scream and I turned to look at her to see the zombie on top of her and I'm guessing because of the smell of the blood the other zombie went to her too"

"Oh Ellie" Warren said sadly and Ellie just sniffled feeling a tear roll down er cheek and she realised she was crying

"Her screams were so agonising, ear piercing but I knew I couldn't help her and her screams were attracting more. So I ran, I abandoned my friends. I lived and they died"

"Ellie you would off been able to help them, you would have been killed" Doc said

"I know, still doesn't make it any easier though" She said softly before wiping away the tears "But anyway like I said I ran and that's when I cant remember what happened, I don't know where I went or if I had help. And the next thing I remember is waking up in some sort of hospital. I don't even know how I got there or why, I didn't seem hurt and the only reason I knew how long was there for was because there was a calendar next to my bed and someone had been ticking of the days. And I knew that someone had done it that day too. Because I woke up at night and there was a bag of fluid attached to a tube attached to a needle in my arm and it was a quarter full"

"Meaning someone had changed it recently" Warren concluded "Did you look around, was anyone else there?"

"No that's what's more confusing, I was alone. I managed to get out of bed with great difficulty, being asleep for a month doesn't reason well for the body. And I tried the door and to my surprise it was locked and they key was on the floor"

"Someone had locked you in and then pushed the key under the door" Murphy said and Ellie nodded surprised he had said anything he had been so quiet.

"What surprised me more was on a hanger in the bathroom was a clean pair of clothes and they weren't mine and at the time I just thought someone was just trying to help. But now I think about it, its weird. I mean why would anyone go through so much trouble to help a complete stranger"

"You definitely didn't know anyone else in New York" Cassandra asked from the window in the bed of the truck

"No, I mean my sperm donor was from here but he didn't want anything to do with me and how would he possibly know I was here. So it was just my friends and ther-"

"Wait hold up" Doc interrupted "Sperm donor?"

"Oh yeah, I never told you that. My father isn't my birth father my mother met my father here. She was here on a business trip for the year and they became an item a summer romance she called it. She found out she was pregnant and told him, and he didn't want nothing to do with us so my mum went back home heartbroken when she met my father and they fell in love and he said he would raise me like is own and he did"

"You're part American then?" Doc asked "Did your mum ever tell you who he was?"

"No she never mentioned his name, only reason I found out is because I was a curious kid and found some letters mentioning him but never a name, So she had no choice but to tell me. But it actually brought us closer"

"And you sure it couldn't have been him?" Warren asked

"I mean it's possible maybe he kept tabs on me but I doubt it and if it was why hasn't he made contact?" Ellie said "but anyway I got dressed, picked up my bag which was left next to the clothes with my dads knife inside and some supplies and surprisingly a gun. I used the key to open the door and when I got into the hallway everything was destroyed, chairs everywhere, equipment on the floor. Zombies and people dead on the floor with bullets holes in their heads. And when I got outside there were army trucks and planes outside with police cars and ambulances. Found a gun and ran and a month later I found you guys"

"More like saved us" Doc said smiling

"Well yeah" Ellie said smiling slightly too

"Why did you never tell us about the loss of memories and the hospital?" Warren asked

"I didn't know you when I found you" Ellie explained "And then it just never came up"

"Well whoever it was I'm glad they found you over wise you'd probably be dead" Doc said

"Yeah I'm glad I'm alive too, but it's weird right?" Ellie said "Somebody had brought me to that hospital, fixed me up and then went through the trouble of making sure that I had the supplies and the means to survive. That hospital was deserted expect for all the bodies except they hadn't all turned, it was like the army was shooting everyone just in case. So why was I saved? What made me so important?"

"Maybe you met someone before us?" 10k said "Then you got hurt and they helped you?"

"Yeah maybe"

"You know that's the most I have heard you talk about yourself Ellie" Doc said trying to lighten the mood

"Yeah when she's not being sarky or giving someone attitude" Murphy said smirking

"Yeah I think that's more your department" Ellie said chuckling and they all chuckled too but she could see that Murphy looked conflicted about something but e was trying to hide it.

"How far is the next town?" Murphy asked "We need to find more water, Ellie drank the last, not blaming you" He said when he saw her open her mouth "Just stating a fact"

"About half an hour" Warren answered "Hopefully we can find some supplies"

Somewhere in Nebraska

They hadn't found anything in the next town or the next and soon it had been about three days since they had any water when they pulled to a stop in a town in Nebraska where they searched a few places but came up empty handed, the town was deserted and no sign of any z's at the moment.

Feeling deflated, hungry and thirsty they were all running out of fumes except for surprisingly Murphy. The heat wasn't helping no one either, 10K had taken off his scarf and long sleeve top and was now just wearing his cameo top while Ellie had stripped of her jacket leaving her in her grey vest and her hair was now in a high pony tail. 10K was led out on the floor lifting up his flask to his mouth and all that came out was a tiny trickle. Ellie also led down opposite 10k so her head was nearly touching his. Cassandra was led on the floor on her stomach a few paces away from them and Doc was currently trying to pee into a bottle and when nothing happened he walked over to Cassandra and sat on the pavement.

"I read once that you could drink your own urine" Doc said "But all I'm pissin' is dust"

"Gross" Ellie mumbled under her breath when she saw Murphy walking towards them and he stopped in front of Warren who was sat on the edge of a bumper of a car holding an empty water bottle in her hands. She had tried to see if there was any water left in the radiator of the car but no such luck.

"Water isn't gonna find you just sitting there" Murphy said

"Why are you so freaking chipper" Warren snarled

"Ive been wondering that myself, maybe it's cuz I conserve my precious bodily fluids" He boasted before he was interrupted by a loud rumbling and they all looked for the source of the noise.

"What is that?" 10k asked struggling to sit up "Is it an earthquake?"

"More like a zombie quake" Doc said standing up pulling Cassandra with him.

Looking into the distance all they could see was dust rising up into the air like a stampede was coming. And in the dust was a horde of zombies running toward them.

"God damn guys just wont quit" Warren grumbled getting up of the car.

"I suggest we run for it" Murphy said and started running the other way until he noticed no-one was following him so he ran back "Come on people. Pick it up"

"I... we...can't" Warren said breathlessly sitting back on the car bumper "Dehydrated"

"Come on. Keep moving'" He said pulling Warren up and dragging her along "Come on lets go" and Doc and Cassandra followed closely behind while 10k got up and grabbed Ellie around the shoulders pushing her up and she slowly got to her feet while 10k leaned down to grab their weapons, then they both ran after the others.

"Come on! Move it!" Murphy shouted back at then as the rumbling got louder

"This way!" Warren shouted leading them to a corner's office and they all legged it inside and when Warren was just about to close the door they heard someone shout out wait.

Turing back around Ellie got out her weapon as did Warren and they both saw two men running towards them and the zombies were close behind.

"Don't shoot" One of the men said as he got to the door and Warren let him through, the other guy however wasn't so lucky. A zombie had jumped at him knocking him to the ground and took a chunk out of his side and Warren quickly shot the guy in the head knowing he was a dead man before slamming the door shut just as the z's got to the door and they could all hear the z's banging and growling as they tried to get in.

They were trapped and with no way out.
