Season One Episode 11 Part One
"Are you sure Citizen Z said we should be down here?" Addy asked Mack while they were searching some tunnels under a building. They were told about a guy named Chester who could give them some food. They weren't getting there hopes up and the lack of lights made the search harder and more dangerous even with flash-lights.
"Yeah, that's what he said" Mack replied using his flash light to light the way with his gun in his other hand. "Hear that?" He said as they carried on walking down a long tunnel they could hear something further on down. Following the noise they came across a room and once they entered they saw a guy with his back to them sat in a chair with a hood over his head.
"What do you think, huh?" Addy asked as she slowly edged closer " Dead? Alive? Human? Zombie?" She walked around to stand in front of him with her bat raised and quickly pulled the hood off to reveal a zombie "Dead" she said and sounded rather sad about it.
They left the room and carried on their search through the tunnels with Addy in the front humming a cheerful tune and Mack following behind her a concerned look on his face.
"Here, here, here, here" Addy said cheerfully climbing under a pipe before going back to humming.
It wasn't long until they came to another door that was open slightly, pushing it fully open they came across a large room with a few zombies wandering around.
"Bingo" Addy said raising her whacker and stepping forward "Cinderella dressed in yella" She san cheerfully as she swung her whacker in her hand and then hit the first across the head making him snarl and fall to the fall. "Went upstairs to kiss a fella" She continued to sing as she whacked the other z in the face " She took a pill, lost her frills" She stabbed two more z's as her singing got more angry "How many zombies does she kill. One, two, three, four" She finished cheerfully as she used her whacker to count each zombie she had just killed and then bowed.
"You couldn't just give them mercy?" Mack asked sadly
"What fun would that be?" She replied before they were both interrupted by a loud clanking coming from one off the other rooms. "What was that?"
"I don't know" Mack said lifting up his flash light and walking towards the other door "Come on" He said to Addy who was already walking behind him
They left the room and slowly crept down another tunnel full of pipes with their weapons raised. They then went up some steps.
"Hold it right there" A familiar voice said from beside them and turning around it revealed Warren, Doc and Ellie with their guns pointed at them.
"Oh its the damn wonder twins" Murphy said squinting against the flash light that pointed at his direction making Mack chuckle and they all put their weapons down.
"Guys" Warren said relieved
"What the wonder..." Doc said shocked as Warren stepped up to Addy and gave her a hug they were all smiling happily, Warren then gave Mack a kiss.
"Never, I mean never, ever, in a million years, truly did I think I'd see you guys again" Doc said as he gave them both a hug.
"I'm so glad you're both ok" Ellie said happily going up to Addy and giving her a big hug and then Mack.
"I told you we be back" Addy said softly and they both smiled at each other
"Citizen z send you guys?" Mack asked once they had all gotten over the shock off seeing each other again
"Yeah, he told us there was food and somebody named Chester who could help us out" Cassandra explained
"Yeah, he told us that too, We're starting to have doubts" Mack said
"Okay, well he should be, you know what, right down there" Warren said gesturing to behind them "Lets hit it"
Warren led the group while Addy rushed to get behind her followed by Murphy while Ellie and 10k grabbed each of Cassandra's arm to help her walk and they slowly made they way out.
"hey, hey" Mack whispered to Doc as they started following "What happened to her?"
"She got caught on a piece of barbed wire" Doc explained " Now it's all infected"
They all made their way down a long corridor until they came to a door. Warren lifted up her gun before knocking on the door and when they didn't hear any movement she opened it and walked inside "Hello!" she shouted as they made their way into the room.
"Well I guess we found Chester" Addy said when she saw a man slumped on a chair and when she got a closer look she could she a bullet hole in his skull "Hello Chester" She said cheerfully before she whacked him multiply times in the head.
"Addy!" Ellie shouted when it looked like she wasn't gonna stop. Which got the desired affect she stopped and looked towards the others who were looking at her with mixed expressions. Some confused, some worried and Murphy looked a little bit scared.
"Somebody got up on the wrong side of the apocalypse" Murphy said and Ellie whacked him on the arm making him jump and glare at her. But she just ignored him and walked towards Addy.
"What happened to you guys out there?" She heard Warren ask Mack
"She's working out some stuff, you know how things can catch up with you" she heard Mack say when Ellie reached Addy who looked a bit ashamed and embarrassed about what she juts did.
"Are you ok?" Ellie asked her quietly resting a hand on her shoulder and Addy just nodded as she tried to avoid eye contact.
"Chester?" A familiar voice said from a radio "You got them yet? You got my team? Hello? Anyone?"
The voice was coming from a room behind them and going into that room it kind off looked like a interrogation room with a table in the middle of the room and a screen on the wall with Citizen Z's face on it.
"Warren?" Citizen Z said happily "Addy, it's... hey, hey, hey! Up here! Its your old pal, Citizen Z. Oh. It's everyone. Hi, everyone. Hi! Addy looking gorgeous as always. O hey, uh you must be Mack huh, kinda thought you be taller"
"I thought you'd be old enough to shave" Mack countered not liking how Citizen Z flirted with Addy
"Hmm, Hey Murphy. Squeeze in so I can see you" Citizen Z said and when Murphy did he hesitated not expecting him to look like that "Oh hey. Yeah looking good, sir. So guess what? Ive got good news. California's back. They're alive and online, well most of them. But they're getting ready for you and he dream s alive. The mission is a go, thanks to yours truly. That's good news right?
"Good news would be a package of Oreo's and a couple of gallons on milk" 10k said
"Yeah not much help if we're staring and dehydrating. Done that once wasn't fun" Ellie said drawing Citizen Z's attention to her.
"You're Ellie" He sad a bit surprised
"yeah" Ellie said
"Ellie Vernez?"
"Yeah?" Ellie said looking towards Warren who just shrugged her shoulders not understanding why he was asking either
"Ellie Vernez, 23 from United Kingdom Wales?"
"Yeah" Ellie said getting fed up with the questions "Is there a problem? and how do you know my full name and age, the accent gave where I'm from away"
"Uh no, no problem" He said rushing his words like he was trying to hid something "And I did a background check on you all needed to make sure you were all the right people to escort Murphy here"
"Well to do that I though you would need my full name to begin with and I'm pretty sure no-one here mentioned my last name and you wouldn't be able to do facial recognition because this is the first time I've seen you and vise versa" She knew when someone was lying to her and Citizen Z was definitely hiding something.
"Someone must of mentioned it otherwise how would I know?... Anyway, down the same hall, next door on your left. Should be everything that you need. I cant tell you how good it is to see you all again"
"Yeah good to see us too, kid" Doc said waving slightly looking back and forth between Ellie and Citizen Z before walking out the door they others following but Ellie hesitated and so did Mack and Addy.
"Hey what was they place anyway?"
"CIA Black site"
"Oh, like waterboarding, Zero Dark Thirty, Black site?"
"Yeah, I kind thought it would be obvious from what Chester told me. So where is the old crackpot anyway?" Mack didn't have the heart to tell him so he just shook his head. "Oh man. Bummer."
They both smiled sadly before leaving which left Ellie alone with Citizen Z
"You know I am very good and reading people and I know when someone is lying to me, so how do you know me?" She asked him firmly daring him to lie to her
He hesitated at first like he was trying to find away out of answering before sighing "I didn't lie about doing checks, but I only did them on Warren and Garnett. The rest of you I figured if they trusted you then I could too"
"So how did you know my name?"
"I can tell you something but I cant explain why because I don't know myself. But the people who are giving me instructions to get Murphy to California they sent me a file not long ago. A file with your name and a picture attached to it. I didn't know it was you I just thought maybe it was a coincidence that there was a Ellie in the group until I just saw your face. For some reason they have a file on you. Where your from, name, age, family, blood type and the instructions to 'keep safe'."
"Why have they got a file on me? I'm nothing special. Would it have something to do with my dad?" Ellie asked him confusion on her face. And she saw him hesitate shifting in his seat before he answered.
"I don't know, it could be. I didn't say anything while the others were in here because I didn't know if you wanted them to know and to be honest I didn't want to scare you. But for some reason it's not just Murphy they are interested in, so just be careful, they want you safe for a reason. I'm sorry but that's all I know"
"Ok... um... thank you for telling me" Ellie said quietly not having the energy to say anything else. Her brain was fried and frankly she was scared "I'm.. gonna.. catch up to the others" she said walking slowly out of the door seeing Citizen Z send her a sad smile as she went.
Ellie made her way down to the others following the direction Citizen Z gave. Her mind was numb and she was basically walking and pilot mode and once she made it to the room she saw the others gathered around a table with food.
"Everything ok?" Warren asked the young girl when she saw her enter.
"Yeah, everything's fine" Ellie said plastering a fake smile on her face a she sat down next to Addy and judging by the looks on all they're faces none of them believed her but none of them asked which she was grateful for. She ate a little bit of food but after that conversation she didn't have much of an appetite and she couldn't wait to get back on the road and away from this place.
They were soon back on the road the truck they were in was a lot bigger so they were all able to fit in comfortably. Warren was driving and Murphy in the passenger seat with Addy, Doc and Cassandra behind them and Mack and Ellie were right at the back in the boot. Ellie didn't want to talk to anyone and Mack got the message and left her alone. While 10k was standing with his head out of the sun roof watching for z's.
Murphy was currently eating some form of smelly fish from a can not remotely bothered by the smell when he burped sending the smell through out the car making them all groan.
"Whoa, Warren. Slow up here, will ya?" Doc said suddenly seeing a z with no legs leaning against a rock.
"It's just a kid." Cassandra said sadly
"That is not a kid. It's zombie road kill" Murphy said not bothered by the gruesome sight and Ellie scoffed at that but she didn't say anything and she didn't look out the window either she couldn't bare seeing a child mutilated.
They soon passed a sign saying Salt Lake City 251 Miles when 10k suddenly banged on the roof of the truck
"Ten o'clock"
"Another kid" Doc said when they all looked in that direction and they saw a boy waking towards them.
"Not any more" Murphy said
"Warren, stop. It's just a boy. Stop" Addy said eager to get them to stop and once Warren had pulled over she immediately got out with a whacker raised and made her way to the boy. She went to swing at the zombie but she hesitated allowing the zombie to get very close to her. Ellie saw 10k raise his rifle ready to shoot it if he needed to while Mack shouted her name to get her attention which worked and she whacked the z on the head sending him to the floor.
Warren got out of the vehicle then to see if she was ok and Ellie saw Addy jump and spin around when Warren's hand made contact with her shoulder.
"What!" Addy said breathlessly moving away from her hand "Fine!" she said again as she climbed back into the truck. And they all knew that she wasn't fine but they didn't want to push her.
They soon set off back down the road and it wasn't long when they came across another kid but this one was different. "Heads up, we got a live one" Warren said as she slowed down
"Whoa, another sad kid in a weird flower shirt" Doc said sadly and Addy put her hand over her face not wanting to see another kid.
"I got this one" Warren said once she pulled the truck to a stop and then she got out. She made her way slowly to the boy who stopped. "Hey, woah, you ok?" She asked him raising her hands up slightly to show she wasn't a threat.
"A little thirsty is all" The boy replied his voice raspy from lack of water
"Of course hang on" Warren said gong back to the truck and grabbing some water of Doc and she quickly gave it to the boy "Here you go champ" She said to the boy as she handed it over and the boy took a big gulp of water.
"Thanks Ma'am" He said politely handing it back over
"You can call me Roberta. What's your name?"
"I'm Sam"
"Sam. Does your mom know you're out here all by yourself?"
Sam nodded "I'm going to Salt Lake City to see my dad"
"That's not a good idea"
"Yes it is, I'm old enough now. I finally get to meet my dad"
"It's too far. It's not safe"
"It's not to far. Brennan and Dax are already there"
"Sam, Salt Lake City's been overrun by zombies"
"Yeah, right" Sam said not believing Warren and he side stepped her and carried on walking the way he was going walking right past the truck and Warren ran to catch up to him
"Uh wait, wait Sam. You're old enough to go see your dad. But here's the thing. We've ran out of food. Can you help us?"
"My friend Helen could help you get some food"
"Cool, will you show us where they live?" Warren asked him and Sam went really nervous and started backing away from her "Ill tell you what, you take us there we will drive you to salt lake City" She said offering her hand
"Okay" Sam said taking Warrens hand and shaking it. Warren then led him to the back of the truck where he got in next to Mack and Ellie who both smiled at him
"Hey man I'm Mack" He introduced himself and Ellie did the same and once Warren was in they set off towards Sam's place.
Monticello, Utah
"Just up there" Sam directed Warren
"Anybody home?" Doc asked looking towards the camp that did look deserted. There was a big metal door in the middle of two big rocks and the place didn't look particularly welcoming. The 'No trespassing' sign didn't help either
"Doesn't look like it" Mack said as Warren pulled to a stop a few feet away from the gate.
"Mack, Ellie you want to check it out?" Warren asked them
"Yeah" Mack said grabbing his weapon and Ellie grabbed hers while Mack opened the boot for them to get out. They both slowly made their way to the front of the truck their feet crunching on the stones when a voice sounded out above them.
"Get back in the truck!" A woman said and looking up they saw a woman with dark hair aiming a gun at them. Ellie looked around to see several other woman surrounding them guns also aimed at them "You're not welcome here" The woman said but she didn't look at Ellie like it was aimed at Mack and not her.
"Hold on, Hold on" Mack said raising his hands as he put his gun away and Ellie did the same "It's ok. We're friendly we just..." Mack and Ellie both jumped back when a bullet hit the ground right in front of his feet. "Stop! Stop! It's fine! Just listen to me for a second!. We have..." Another shot was fired at his feet and he ran to the door that had been opened by Doc . Ellie however hesitated hey weren't aiming at her. "Thought you said they were friendly Sam"She heard him say to Sam when another gunshot sounded.
"Stop shooting" Ellie said backing up slowly her hands still raised just in case
"Stop! Don't shoot! Please" Warren said who had just gotten out of the truck with her arms raised and she waked over to Ellie. "We have your boy, we have Sam!" Warren said gesturing with her hand for Sam to get out. So Ellie backed up to the open door now Mack was inside and helped Sam out of the truck, they then walked to the front to stand by Warren.
"Hold your fire!" Another woman shouted while the dark haired woman told them to open the gate. Once they saw the gate opening the rest of them started getting out of the truck expect for 10k and Murphy while Doc helped Cassandra.
The gate was opened then and standing in the middle was a older woman with blonde brown hair followed by a few armed woman.
"Ms Helen, it's okay. They just need food" Sam said running up to stand next to Helen. "They're nice"
"It's good to see you Sam" Helen said to him putting a hand on his shoulder "Why don't you go inside and find your mother? I'm sure she's anxious to see you" Sam made his way inside while Warren walked up to to Helen and Ellie followed behind and they were soon joined by Addy. "Thank you for bringing him back. Sometimes our kids get cabin fever and decide to go exploring" The woman explained and Warren chuckled but Ellie wasn't convinced. She didn't look happy to see him back.
"What's wrong with you?" Helen asked Cassandra who was leaning against Doc.
"It's infected" Cassandra said
"Oh, that could be dangerous" Helen replied
"Yeah, it could" Doc said
"We can help you, You've arrived at the sister's of mercy"
"Anytime now!" Murphy suddenly said popping his head out of the window
"You don't have to stay!" Helen said back to him
"Yes he does" Warren said "We're a team"
"Your are?" Helen said smiling like see thought the idea was crazy
"Yes"
"Well team or not if you want to stay here, you'll have to split up. Woman and children only here. You can go inside with your friend . But your men will have to stay outside the wall. We'll give you 24 hours. You can rest, get some food, and then you'll leave us" Helen explained
The group hesitated at first not wanting to split up but then Warren looked towards Doc who nodded and then it was decided. Addy and Ellie went towards Cassandra to take her off Doc.
"That's very fair of you" Warren said stepping forward to shake Helen's hand, "And you are?"
"Helen. And you?"
Lieutenant Roberta Warren. Missouri National Guard" Warren replied and Helen nodded allowing them in. Ellie, Cassandra and Addy went first followed by Warren.
"Addy" Mack said coming forward making them pause and Addy turned to look at him smiling slightly before all three of them carried on walking in.
"Don't worry. I got her" Warren said trying to ease his worry.
They were led too a car and they drove for a few minutes until they came to a stop in a beautiful Forrest area with a lake and a bridge. Addy quickly got out of the back of the car and had a look around while Ellie climbed out and went to Cassandra's side at the same time another woman came to her side.
"Can you help her? She has an infected leg. Take her to the infirmary" Helen said to the woman
"Can someone look at my friend here to please, she was shot about two weeks ago. It was cleaned and stitched but can someone just check to make sure its ok please" Warren said to Helen gesturing to Ellie
"No Warren I'm fine" Ellie denied "It doesn't even hurt any more"
"We'd be happy to help" Helen said nodding to the woman who was by Cassandra "Cant be to careful". When she saw Ellie hesitating Helen stepped forward and grabbed her hands. "Let us help you, and you can keep your friend company and once you've been checked over you can join us for some food ok?"
"Ellie go" Warren said and Ellie sighed nodding her head and Helen smiled, releasing her hands she gestured for the other woman to lead the way. Ellie grabbed Cassandra's arm and put it over her shoulder and followed the woman to the infirmary.
They were led into a room with a few beds and some cabinets with medical supplies in it, Ellie helped Cassandra to one of the beds, while the woman, Amy they learnt gathered some supplies. Cassandra's wound was cleaned, stitched and bandaged she was then given some penicillin and while they were doing that Ellie was led to another bed where they looked at the stitches in her stomach.
"This has healed nicely" A Younger woman Maurine said
"It was done by a member of my group he has some experience in medicine, kept it clean and we did have some antibiotics but we ran out" Ellie explained
"Well it doesn't look infected and I think these stitches are ready to come out" The woman replied going to get the necessary tools. "Once these are out you can go join the others for food".
"Whoever built this place must've seen the apocalypse coming. It's perfect" Warren said sitting at a long table with group. Addy was at the end of the table with a little girl while Warren was sat next to Helen.
"Hey guys" Ellie said walking towards the table and Warren smiled as she stood up to make space for the younger girl.
"Everything ok?"
"Yeah all good, Cassandra's getting treatment I got my stitches taken out. It's all healed nicely" Ellie confirmed sitting down in-between Warren and Helen. "Your place is beautiful by the way" Ellie said to Helen as she grabbed a plate and put some food on it. She just had a very interested conversation with Amy and Cassandra but she didn't want Helen to think she was getting suspicious.
"Thank you, and about what you said Warren. My husband built this place. His philosophy was that we become absolutely self-sufficient and off the grid"
"Your husband?" Warren asked
"He's gone. Like the others"
"All these women?"
Well Zina and Emmeline were my sister wives. And when Ammon went, we had each other and this place. These other women weren't so lucky 'til we found them. Now they're safe. They're free... More strawberries?" Helen said trying to change the subject.
"No. I... I think I'm gonna go look in on Cassandra and see how she's doing" Warren said and Ellie could see that she to was starting to get suspicious "Thank you" She said as she wiped her mouth with the napkin and stood up
"Of course"
"I on the other hand would love some strawberries" Ellie said trying to draw the attention of Warren, who nodded subtly at her and went to find Cassandra "I haven't had strawberries in a very long time and they are my favourite" She continued and smiled when Helen handed them to her which she returned.
As Ellie was putting some strawberries on her plate she could see Helen watching Addy very closely as they were taking about the food and Ellie did not like the way she was watching her. She soon turned to look back at Ellie and smiled sweetly at her. But all it did was creep Ellie out, it seemed Helen wasn't only interested in Addy it was her too and she knew in that moment that this place wasn't as safe as they made out.
Warrens Pov
Walking towards the infirmary Warren knocked on the door and walked in. "Feeling better?" She asked her and Cassandra pulled herself into a sitting position "Thank you" She said to Amy as she left.
"Starting to" Cassandra replied smiling brightly until Amy was fully out of the room and her smile dropped and she gestured for Warren to come closer. "Remember what Sam told us about where he was going?"
"Salt Lake City to see his dad"
"Amy has a son a little older than Sam. He's not here. You know why?"
"Went to Salt Lake City to see his dad?"
Cassandra nodded "The girls stay here, but all the boys leave when they turn 13. That's what she said"
"Does Ellie know?"
"Yeah, She was still here when she told me"
"That would explain why she was acting so cheerful and distracted Helen when I wanted to come see you. They seem so happy"
Yeah, maybe a little too happy"
Nice people always scare me. Let's get you well, and let's get out of here" Warren said tapping her on her uninjured leg before walking out of the room and back to Ellie.
Doc's Pov
"All these women give me the creeps" Murphy said walking towards Doc and Mack who were putting up a cover by the truck. "That blonde one keeps looking at me"
"Oh man, don't get down on yourself like that. You are a perfect hunk of man meat, and don't you ever forget it" Doc said to him
"Ha, ha. Don't quit your day job" Murphy grumbled walkign away.
"Is there really all women in there?" 10k asked with a smile on his face
"Yeah. Enjoy your imagination, kid. That's probably all you're gonna get"
"You know what I don't understand, Doc? What the hell happened to all their men?" Mack asked Doc when 10k walked away.
"Well maybe we can ask her" Doc said gesturing to a blonde woman wearing blue dungarees walking towards them carrying pies. "Angels from heaven. Is that pie?"
"Blueberry" The woman said coming to a stop in-front of them "Umm, I, I, I made it by myself. Do you guys know where the... the other one is? The one with the... with the hair and those eyes? He... "
"10K, Hold my calls" Murphy shouted to 10k who was standing by a makeshift tent drawing their attention over to him as he climbed into it "wake me up after the apocalypse"
"I'm gonna go give him a piece of this" The blonde woman said handing one of the pies to Doc without looking and walking over to Murphy. She walked past a rather disappointed 10k who assumed he was getting some pie and leaned down by the entrance of the tent where Murphy's head was still sticking out."Pie?" She asked him.
Murphy looked down at the pie and then back at the woman's face and then said to 10k without turning away from the woman "Beat it, kid. Beat it!"
10k walked away a bit disappointed that he dint have any pie and then they all saw Murphy edge back into the tent followed by the woman who was making seductive noises at Murphy. It want long before they started seeing the tent move followed by lots of moaning noises and they all walked away quickly after that not wanting to be near that.
