Season One Episode 12 Part One
South Park Colorado
"Do you think we'll ever see them again?" Cassandra asked them as they were driving down the road. She was sat between 10k and Murphy, Warren was driving and Doc in the passenger seat while Ellie was sat behind 10k in the boot with her back against the left side of it. She wasn't ready to talk about them but she wasn't going to stop the others talk about it, she couldn't help feel betrayed by someone she saw as a sister.
"Mack and Addy?" Warren said glancing back at her "My heart says yes. But my mind. My mind says no"
"I was kinda hoping they'd make it with us to the promised land" Doc said and they all smiled sadly but no one said anything else.
Ellie went back to observing the scenery as did 10k and Cassandra only they looked out 10k's windows but at the corner of her eye she could see Murphy prodding at his hand and then see saw him pull away a thin layer of skin like it was dried glue and he didn't even flinch. She quickly turned away then when she saw him start to panic and look around to see if anyone had seen then put it in his pocket when he saw no one looking.
"Now what?" Warren said suddenly when they came to a roadblock and Ellie got up on her knees so she could look to the front and she could see a white limousine blocking the road followed by several other cars.
"Heads up, everybody" Doc said taking his sunglasses off
"I hate roadblocks" 10K whined
"Can't you just push that thing out of our way?" Murphy suggested
"No thanks. I'd like to hold onto this truck" Warren said and turned off the road to drive into what looked like a golf course.
"Well this golf course has seen better days" Doc said as they drove past a zombie who was stuck in a golf cart and was trying to get out
"This is so sad" Murphy said "I learned to play in prison. Always wondered what it'd be like to hang out with the real country-club types"
"Cant imagine you playing golf" Ellie mumbled as they came to a stop by a small bridge
"Think that bridge is gonna hold this truck?" Doc asked
"Better test it first" Warren said getting out of the truck and they all followed "Looks pretty solid" Warren said putting a foot on the bridge and Doc jumped up and down on the bridge a few times. Before they all started to walk across it.
"Hello, Delta-Xray. Citizen. Z calling all cars, calling all cars" Citizen Z voice came from the radio Warren had found.
"Delta-Xray back at you" Warren said into the radio lifting it up to her mouth
"Hello, good to hear, from you again. It's been days, and I worry"
"Thanks, Mom. Any news on Mack or Addy?"
"No, nothing yet. Maybe they're just off the grid and can't make contact"
"Maybe"
"How's Murphy?"
"Murphy is pissed" Murphy shouted snatching the radio out of Warren's hand before she could stop him
"Where the hell is that lab you keep talking about?" He said and Warren shushed him trying to get him to talk quieter "And have you found that witch doctor that almost killed me? Doctor Merch?"
"I'm still working on that."
"Murphy the z's" Ellie said also trying to get him to be quiet but she was also ignored
"Have you found out why they are after Ellie?" He asked him and Ellie was surprised he asked. She had told them all once they had calmed down after the incident at sisters of mercy just in case something happened or someone came for her. Looks like Murphy did actually care about her.
"Im still working on that too"
"And you call yourself the NSA? Quit looking at porn and find that quack and figure it out. We got business to settle"
But it seemed that Murphys shouting had attracted some unwanted company. They could hear several growls and turning around they saw z's dressed in polo shirts and shorts with golf caps coming their way.
"Uh-oh" Cassandra said
"I got the one on the right." Warren said taking out her gun and shooting the zombie closest to her followed by 10k who used his sniper to shoot another one.
"Two thousand, four hundred fifty-five"
Ellie got out her gun and started shooting the zombies until her gun suddenly clicked signifying that it was empty and looking towards the others they had the same issue.
"I'm out of ammo" Warren said
"Me too." 10k said
"Me three, but I got my cross bow"
"Look, some clubs!" Cassandra said pointing towards the grass in-front of them and Doc and Cassandra quickly picked one up.
"Not the putter. Remember, keep your left arm straight." Doc informed Cassandra and she aimed at the closest zombie and swung sending it to the floor and Doc did the same
"Let's run for the clubhouse!" Warren said seeing more zombies approach and they all legged it in that direction. Warren held the door open for them while they all ran inside and just in time to because as Warren slammed the door shut and locked it they were surrounded by z's.
"Murphy?" 10k asked
"He's out there somewhere" Warren said
"Safer than us" Doc said breathlessly
"We got company" Warren said when she heard growling as she turned around and they saw a few zombies that were already inside head towards them. Warren quickly picked up another golf club and piked the zombie in the head and Doc tried to swing at another one but his golf club got stuck in a chair
"Hard to swing in here!" He grumbled as he got his golf club unstuck and swung at the zombie.
"10K, your sling!" Cassandra said suddenly grabbing a container full of golf balls
"Yeah" He said getting his slingshot out and he started taking a couple of the zombies out as they moved and Ellie did the same with her cross bow shooting the zombies in the head with her arrows but more kept coming "Too many" 10k said like he read Ellie's mind
"This way!" Warren said leading them to another room and once they were all in she slammed the door and pushed her weight against it as the door rattled with the weight of the zombies. Ellie and Doc helped when they could see she was struggling.
"Door won't hold much longer!" Warren grunted
"Better in here than out there!" Doc said when they suddenly heard guns going off and soon the growling stopped
"Gunfire?" 10k said
"You can come out now" A man's voice said
"That was not Murphy" Doc said
"It wasn't a Z either" Warren said
"Well hiding in here isn't going to solve the problem and if they wanted us dead they wouldn't of killed the z's" Ellie said
"All right, get ready" Warren whispered and they all got their weapons ready. Warren pulled out her hatchet, while Doc opened the door and they charged out to reveal two men and a woman
"It's okay." A man said shooting a zombie in the head "It's all clear"
"Nice timing." Warren said putting her knife away and the others put their weapons down too
"Don't get too relaxed" The woman informed them ""There's still more outside"
"We got another guy outside too" Doc said and the younger man turned to face the window to see Murphy playing some golf and the zombies were paying him no attention. He was now wearing a yellow golf jacket which he must of got off a zombie.
"I don't believe it"
Murphy seemed to be having the time of his life out there until he got bored and started making his way back to them and once they saw him coming they all made their way outside.
"What?" Murphy said when he saw them all staring at him
"Having fun" Ellie said sarcastically and Murphy smirked
"Little risky, don't you think?" The younger man asked him
"No. The Zs love me, Who the hell are you?"
"Brett Zimmerman" The younger man introduced himself before turning to his friends "This is Henry and Janice"
"Roberta Warren" Warren said introducing herself "This is Doc, 10K, Cassandra, Ellie and the fool with the jacket golfing with the zombies, that's Murphy"
"You're just jealous 'cause they like me more than you" Murphy sassed as he pointed his golf club at her
They all made their way to the back of the golf club where there were no z's. Murphy was currently sat on a chair with his feet up near the edge of the building and Ellie was leaning against the wall next to him not wanting to leave him with strangers. The others were inside, but Brett and Henry were standing around a grill cooking some meat they had found.
"Thirsty?" The woman Janice said coming towards them with a bottle of water in her hands
"I have been since Portsmouth" Murphy replied taking the bottle of her and Janice leaned down next to him with a confused look on her face. "Prison, Massachusetts?" He clarified taking a drink before handing it to Ellie who took a sip thinking germs was the least of her worries then handed it back to him.
"Christ" She said smiling
"I'm an alum"
"Another ex-con"
"Not you?"
"I taught junior high English before everything went to hell but Henry was in San Carlos, drug smuggling I think."
"Hmm, my kinda guy"
"What about you?" Janice asked Ellie who was staring off at the distance at least that's what they thought when in reality she was watching Brett and Henry who were failing miserably at trying in being discreet in observing Murphy.
"Sorry what?" Ellie said politely looking towards Janice and planting a smile on her face to avoid suspicion
"What were you doing before the apocalypse?"
"Oh um... I never really had a job I used to help babysit some of the locals children. But most off my time I spent with my dad, he was a major in the army, retired. He got injured on a mission when I was younger nothing too serious but it left him with serious PTSD and it just made him paranoid so he taught me everything he knew, to hand to hand combat, handling all sorts of weapons and just how to defend myself"
"Yeah you should see her fight, she's like a damn ninja" Murphy said taking another sip of his drink
"Is that a compliment I hear Murphy?" Ellie teased
"Yeah yeah, but when there talent there I cant help but boast about it especially when its on my team. If you want to get through a horde of zombies or people with weapons she's the girl you need with you"
"Good to know" Janice said "Do you mind if we borrow her?" Janice teased laughing but Ellie could tell she wasn't just teasing and she smiled slightly but it was strained but Murphy started laughing too clearly not noticing the ulterior motive behind her words.
Once they had stopped laughing they carried on talking about something else but Ellie wasn't listening she was too focused on watching the other two from the corner of her eye who seemed to be having a heated discussion about Murphy again there eyes glancing back and forth. She knew these three people were trouble and she would have to keep her eye on them, she just hoped it didn't come to anything.
Once the food was cooked Janice excused herself and made her way other to her friends while Murphy and Ellie made their way inside to see the others already sat at the table while Doc was keeping watch outside. Warren was sat at one end of the table with Cassandra sat next to her followed by 10k then Murphy. Brett was sat at the other end with Janice next to him and Ellie was sat next to her while Henry was going around with a bottle of wine filling up their glasses.
"Yeah, and let's not be stingy with that" Murphy said to him when he was going to pull the bottle away and he used his hand to tip the bottle back down filling up his glass "There you go"
"Got any ID?" Henry said as he got to 10k but poured him a drink anyway
"Mmm. Oh yeah, this is not that White Lightning crap. Have a taste, 10 cent." Murphy said
"Miss Warren..." Brett started once all their glasses were full
"Roberta" Warren said watching him closely, Ellie could see she was finding them a bit suspicious too.
"Roberta, would you like, to propose a toast?" He asked her lifting up his drink
"Sure" Warren agreed lifting up her own glass and everyone else did the same " To absent friends"
"To absent friends" They all echoed taking a drink except for Brett who didn't take a drink he just put his drink back down and turned to Murphy
"Mr. Murphy. You seem to have a special way with them"
"Brother, you don't know the half of it" Murphy said chuckling
"Come on, Murphy. No one wants to hear your war stories" Warren said jokingly but the look on her face told a different story
"They asked" He said defensively
"I'd like to hear it" Janice said and Murphy looked at Warren who had a serious look on her face warning him not to say anything but as per usual he ignored her and pulled the neck of his shirt down to reveal the bites and showed them to the new comers
"Those look like zombie bites" Brett said shocked
"Eight of 'em. And I lived to tell the tale." Murphy said proudly doing his shirt back up
"How is that possible?" Henry said
"Well I was given an experimental vaccine, and now the Zs think I'm one of them" Murphy explained
"Is there more of this vaccine?"
"You're looking at it. Only known survivor. But if we can get to this lab in California, they can make more vaccine using the antibodies in my blood, and the human race survives. Ta-da!"
"Our friend tends to exaggerate" Warren said
"Come on. We all saw him walk through zombies" Janice said
"What can I say? I'm a natural"
"Try unnatural." 10k sassed
"Somebody had a cocktail" Murphy said laughing
"Henry?" Brett called to him from where he sat behind them leaning against the window "Don't forget about
our friend Doc outside" Henry smiled slightly getting and he picked up a glass and he bottle and went outside to Doc "So this lab in California, that's a long ways"
"We started in New York" Warren said
"New York?. You came from New York?" Brett said
"Wasn't easy."
"That is an understatement" Murphy said
"Well, we were headed west. Maybe we can help get you the rest of the way"
"We could use the help" Warren said but it was slightly slurred like she was struggling to gather her thoughts
"Let me propose another toast" Brett said lifting up his glass "To California"
"Yeah" Warren said after a few seconds hesitation "To California"
"To California" They all repeated and they all took a drink when suddenly Warren yawned loudly and looking back at them Ellie could see all of them except Murphy were looking drowsy and she could feel it too.
"Ooh, wow. That last sip, I must be tired than I thought" Warren slurred when suddenly 10k's head dropped on to the plate which made Murphy laugh but he soon stopped when Cassandra's head also went forward both fast asleep.
"Hey. What's happening?" Warren slurred as she got up and she tried to pull out her hatchet but she also fell down to the floor. Ellie struggled to gather her thoughts she knew she had to do something but she couldn't get the room to stop spinning.
"No point fighting it darling" A voice said to her and she slowly tuned to face Brett who had his gun pointing at Murphy
"What did you give us?" Ellie slurred as she tried to keep her head off the table and looking at Brett which was very difficult her head felt like led, so she dropped her head to the table which gave her better access to a knife in her boot but she struggled pulling it out.
"Just something to give you all a nap. I needed your friends out of the way, and Murphy is easier enough to subdue he doesn't look like the fighting type but you... I knew you would be harder and you fighting this is prove enough you have the same amount of drug in your system as your friends but your still conscious"
Ellie could see Brett gesture for Janice to grab Murphy which she complied and Ellie knew this was her chance, she managed to get her knife out of her boot and once Janice past her she shot up and lashed out with her knife and she heard a hiss off pain so she knew she made contact.
"You bitch" Janice snarled and Ellie looked at her and even know her vision was blurry sh could see her holding her cheek and blood was leaking out.
"Janice!" Brett warned her when she went to charge at her "Take Mr Murphy to the truck, we will be there soon" He said to her and Ellie couldn't stop her as Brett aimed his gun at her instead and once they were gone she saw him blurringly walk toward her and Ellie tried desperately hard to stay on her feet as she aimed her knife in his direction but she could feel her consciousness slowly slipping away from her. "Janice was right about you" He said but the words sounded distorted "You're a fighter and that skill is handy which is why you're coming with us. So I'm going to need that knife" He said putting down his gun and he held out his hand waiting for her to pass the knife over but she shook her head as she tried to clear her thoughts and she slashed at him but he easily dodged, her moves clumsy. She tried again but her wrist was caught this time and the knife was easily yanked out of her grasp and he pushed her to the floor, she knew she was beaten then she couldn't find the energy to get back up so she gave into the drug coursing through her veins her eyes fluttered closed and she knew no more.
"Oh, shit" Warren said suddenly when she tried to move her hands to see to was handcuffed to a pole attached to the bar and her other hand was handcuffed to Docs, his other one handcuffed to 10k and 10k's others one handcuffed to Cassandra's.
"Where am I?" Doc said panicky also coming to
"I'm awake." 10k said
"Um. Uh..." Cassandra said also panicking as she squeezed 10ks arm to get his attention and he turned to see Cassandra's other hand was attached to a alive zombie but the zombies other hand was also handcuffed to the other end of the pole keeping him at a bit of a distance
"Okay, everybody hold on" Warren said trying to keep calm as she sat up the others followed except for Cassandra
"Not a great option right now" Cassandra shouted as she tried to edge away
"Where's Murphy and Ellie?" Doc asked
"Murphy! Ellie!" They all shouted but they quickly realised they weren't there.
"Okay" Warren sighed "Anyone see anything sharp?"
"Well, there's all these golf tees on the floor" Doc said
"Too short" Cassandra said
"Well, I got something under here. It's in my..." Doc said trying to grab something from his back pocket but was struggling "10K, get it. You got it?"
"Um..." 10k said pulling out what looked like a nail
"Oh, no, that's not sharp enough." Doc complained
"Okay, uh..." Warren said looking around until something on top of the bar caught her eye "Uh, oh look. There's something on top of the bar" She said as 10k and Doc reached up to grab it. Which was an umbrella
"Any time!" Cassandra complained and 10k had managed to get it into his hand handcuffed to Cassandra's so they could both hold it
"Okay. Ready? On three." 10k said as they lifted it up "One! Two! Three!" He shouted and they both stabbed the z in the head using the pointy end and he went silent. They pulled the umbrella out with a grunt and dropped it to the floor all of them were breathing heavily
"Okay. Okay. Now... How do we get out of these?" Doc asked
"Can we bust that rail?" 10k suggested
Well, if we can't, it ain't gonna be for lack of trying." Doc said while Warren leaned down and used her mouth to grab a golf tee
"If you say anything golf-related, I'll poke you with it." She warned Doc when she saw him looking at her and when he turned his head away she lifted up their hands to try and pick the lock.
When Ellie came too she could feel the gentle motion off a truck driving and for a few seconds she forgot where she was. Her head felt a bit fuzzy and she could feel her head leaning against something hard.
"Where are you taking us?" She heard a voice say and she realised it was Murphy. Squinting her eyes open slightly she could see she was leaning against Murphy's shoulder in the middle of the back seat and both her hands and Murphys were handcuffed. He was being is usual delightful self so she figured he was in one piece
"Just sit back and appreciate your improved circumstances" Brett said who was driving, Janice was in the passenger seat which meant Henry was next to her.
"I'm sorry. How is this an improvement?" Murphy asked them
"We have food, water, fuel." Brett explained "You and your friends had no food, no water, and were running on fumes"
"And no ammo" Henry said lifting up his gun "Should be thankful we freed you from those losers.
"Well, maybe losing the feelings in my hands..." Murphy said lifting up his handcuffed hands but she could tell he was being careful not to jostle her to much "is making me a little cranky. I mean, are these really necessary?... I mean I get why she's handcuffed, she's not really someone you want to mess with but me. I'm more of a lover than a fighter"
"Aint that the truth" Ellie mumbled announcing she was awake. She opened her eyes and pulled her head up from Murphy's shoulder sitting up straight "He runs from trouble or sits there quietly while everyone else does the leg work. I on the other hand don't like when people threaten me and my fiends and will do anything to keep them safe"
Ellie saw Henry tense up when she said that and lifted up his gun "Oh relax cupcake" Ellie sassed rolling her eyes "I know when I'm beaten, Ill be good" And to emphasize her point she held her hands up in peace gesture before placing them back down on her lap. Hew weapons were gone, she didn't know whether they had them or if they left them behind but she was hoping they left the knife in her other boot alone.
"You're awake sooner than expected" Brett said to her "We still got a while to go yet"
"Well loud talking will do that, what did you give me anyway I feel like I picked a fight with Mike Tyson and lost" Ellie groaned exaggerating how she really felt. She felt like crap and her head was sill fuzzy but If they thought she felt worse than she was they may let their guard down around her.
"Just a mild sedative, the affects will ware of eventually, but keep in mind we are armed and you are not so no funny businesses"
"Duly noted" Ellie said leaning back against the seat and turning her head to look out the window to see something weird, they were driving in the wrong direction and looking at Murphy's face he saw it too.
"Look. I get it. You heard me talking about my deal and decided to horn in. Figured there might be something in it for you if you get me to California. But guys, unless the sun decided to rise in the west, we're headed the wrong way. California's behind us" Murphy said voicing both of their concerns
"We're not going to California" Henry said smiling
"What the hell do you want?" Murphy asked
"Why don't you just relax, enjoy the scenery?" Janice said turning to look at them
"I already seen it"
"Then just try shutting up" Henry said pointing his gun back at him
"Not my nature" Murphy said raising his voice and Ellie shushed him not wanting to piss of their captors
"Then evolve" Henry snarled
"You'll find out what we want soon enough" Brett said
"What'd you do to the others?" Murphy asked and Ellie didn't stop him and she to was curios she didn't think they killed them no point in drugging them otherwise. "You know they won't just let you take me or her. Especially her, They're a lot more dangerous than they look."
"You don't have to worry about them any more" Brett said
"What did you do?" Murphy asked "You kill them?"
"You better not have hurt them" Ellie warned
"We left them for the Zs. Darwin will take care of the rest." Brett said and both Ellie and Murphy looked at each other hoping they were all alright.
Warren's Pov
They had gotten out of the handcuffs and were now making their way back to the truck.
"What happened to us?" 10k asked
"I believe we got roofied. Drugged with rohypnol" Doc explained
"Where's Murphy? And Ellie? Warren asked them a they crossed the bridge
"The others are gone too" 10k said
"You don't think..." Cassandra trailed off "Murphy wouldn't do that. Drug us to escape?... and I know Ellie wouldn't"
"How could we let this happen? He was our responsibility they both were" Warren said hitting her hand against the truck door once they made it back before getting into the drivers seat and trying the gas
"At least they left our ride" 10k said trying to find a bright side
"The battery's dead" Warren sighed
"Well, assuming we find some way to get moving, what next, boss?" Doc asked Warren while they searched for another way out
"Go after Murphy and Ellie and get his ass to California or die trying" Warren explained
"Hey, do we even know what direction he went in?"
"Too many questions, Doc. Too many questions."
"It's got a battery. I don't know how good" Cassandra said when they got to the limo scene where her and 10K were checking the vehicles. Cassandra then went around to the drivers side and opened the door. "Look at this" She said pulling out a radio
"Yes" Warren said taking it off Cassandra
"How did you know that?" Doc asked Cassandra
"Saw the antenna on the back" She explained while Warren sent a signal for Citizen Z to see and it wasn't long before they got a response
"I'm here. I'm here" Citizens Z's voice said
"We lost Murphy and Ellie"
"Holy crap. That has the potential for great, permanent tragedy"
"We think they may have been kidnapped by three civilians, motive unknown. But they are aware
of Murphy's status"
"Is he still alive? Do you know if Murphy is still alive?and what about Ellie?"
"As far as we know" Doc said when Warren hesitated
"And Ellie's with them and she would let him get hurt without a fight" Warren said
"Why would they take Ellie too?"
"I don't know you tell me, is it something to do with what you told her last time you guys spoke?
"It cant be no one knows about that except for me and you guys unless you told someone"
"No just us knows maybe it was for bait or to keep Murphy restrained. Maybe they think having her there Murphy will behave? But anyway they disappeared this morning, probably on l-70 going east or west in a brown utility truck"
"Okay, um... I see one vehicle on l-70 going east from your location about two hours ago"
"Okay, uh..."
"That... That's got to be them" Doc said interrupting Warren before they heard a dial tone of the phone
"Hello?" Warren said but there was no response "Hello? Ugh Damn apocalypse"
