"But what if it's puppies?" Sirius asked, a worried expression on his face.
"Sirius, the mediwitch said it's one baby. One! You're not even a dog most of the time, so why would it be puppies?"
"Something James said..."
"And since when has anything James said made a lick of sense?"
"Hey! He's my best mate!"
"And he still hates you because I chose you over him, remember?" Lily asked, massaging her growing belly. She could feel her son or daughter kicking. Mentally, she noted to sign the child up for football, although she was certain Sirius was going to want them to play Quidditch.
"He doesn't hate me, he's just... he doesn't understand, it's not like I chose to steal you from him, it just kind of happened."
"Right, you were looking for something to bind me and him together and ended up binding us together instead. You know, if it wasn't for that stupid bond, which I'm still trying to find a way to break-"
"But you love me," Sirius protested, giving Lily a smile. She sighed.
"I'll admit, you're growing on me, Sirius, but I still think love is a bit of a stretch. Tolerate you because I honestly have choice, yes. Allow you to be part of my life because of the bond and the baby, yes."
"You'll grow to love me, everyone does," Sirius laughed. Lily simply sighed again.
She knew it wasn't really Sirius' fault that this had happened, it was James' he'd been the one to come up with the idea of binding charms, of marriage charms. Sirius had just been being a good friend, something Lily did find a bit endearing, bu that didn't mean she'd grow to love him, it just meant maybe he had some redeeming qualities that she might be noticing more and more. That's all!
